Our sky ranger was over the home earlier this morning. This is where investigators are still under way with that investigation. Dublin police are holding a press conference at 11 30 and well continue to follow this breaking story and bring you updates online at nbcbayarea. Com as well as on air. Turning back to Team Coverage of our heat wave. Nbc bay areas bob redell is live with more on how schools are handling the heat. Parents want to know that, but we begin with meteorologist kari hall. Those temperatures dropping as slowly as the gas prices. Its not happening fast enough. Heres a little minor change that were seeing. You see that one Little Finger of fog reaching across the Golden Gate Bridge . Thats bringing down some of the temperatures near the coastline just a little bit but not really helping us out for the interior valleys as were still looking at hot temperatures right now in vacaville, it is already 96 degrees. Lets take a look at more of these temperatures like san jose, right now at 81. Its 86 in martinez. 81 in napa. And in santa rosa. But actually, when you compare it to yesterday at this time, its 6 to 17 degrees lower. Were seeing minor changes today. But it still will be dangerously hot as we head for 103 degrees in san jose. 108 in concord, livermore reaching 108 degrees. And San Francisco up to about 80 degrees while palo alto will see a high of 95 degrees. We may actually see these temperatures going up another couple degrees as we go into tomorrow and then friday is still equally as hot. May not be until this weekend when we start to get some real relief. Now, this heat wave is forcing one School District in the east bay to cut back on the class schedule. Nbc bay areas bob redell is live outside dublin elementary. Bob, the district is concerned about blackouts due to the hot weather. Correct. Good morning to you, kari. Dublin unified says since friday they had to shut down three schools early because of Power Outages due to the heat. Which meant that parents had to come earlier than usual and pick up their kids at the last moment. So they have announced that today through friday, all dublin unified schools including dublin elementary behind me, will move to this minimum day schedule, which means classes will get out during the noon hour. The district announced this in advance to give parents time to prepare for early pickups. Its definitely disruptive to our day. Making it really difficult for those that work from home, which is what i do. But i mean, i think its the best thing that needs to happen. To keep them safe. Keep them safe and hydrated. From a work point of view . Its disruptive. I had to move my schedule around. Yeah. But thats okay. Got to adapt. I dont complain. You have to find a way to adapt. Now, up north in contra costa county, full b. A. R. T. Service has resumed between Pleasant Hill and concord. B. A. R. T. Stations after a section of track bent slightly in yesterdays 110plus degree heat. Workers resurfaced the track overnight and restored double track service by 6 00 this morning. B. A. R. T. Warns however that trains could run slow today if the temps hit 100 degrees. Reporting live in dublin, bob redell, nbc bay area news. That heat hitting a lot of people hard. Bob, thank you. In some cases the problems are being compounded by Power Outages. This is an up to the minute look at the outages right now across the bay area. The green and yellow indicates that no large scale outages are in place at this time. And most are likely tied to equipment failures. So far, cal iso has not had to resort to those rolling blackouts but the statewide watch continues through at least friday, meaning that possibility will persist. All right, were talking about flex alerts and saving power, so joining us now, we have invited San Jose State University lecturer to talk about the threat of the rolling blackouts. Thanks for joining us. I am happy to avoid doing laundry and doing the dishes during peak hours, but how much does that actually really help . Well, its added. We talk about a lot of people doing it at the same time, a little bit here, a little there. Its going to add up to something that will help avoiding going to the phase three where theyre going to force us to deal with the rolling blackouts. If everybody is doing their part, we can avoid the blackouts. Its not just the Little People like me cutting power. You said the governor also cutting some usage at government buildings too . That is true. Yesterday, he announced theyre going to shut down or power down the government buildings so they can help with preserving the power that can go to the average people instead of having it with buildings that they dont use it at that time. Especially in that period of 4 00 to 9 00, where most of the government buildings are closed. Ill tell you, we went to backtoschool night last week and the classrooms were hot in the evening. Thats because they usually shut off the power in the afternoons and evenings. Cal iso didnt have to cut power, didnt have to actually flex into those rolling blackouts but some communities like morgan hill did cut power. How do you explain that . This is basically nothing which is done intentionally in this case. Its the equipment overloaded, overheated. The weather is not helping at the same time. Thats pushing it to the limit. So you have seen pictures of some of those transformers burn because everybody is using their ac and trying to cool down, so thats overloaded the normal load for those devices, and theyre old. Some of them are really old. They couldnt handle it. We have a lot of appliances in our homes that our parents had, but now we also have all of our gadgets and electric cards were plugging in. How can our power grid keep up . This is part of, you know, using some kind of balancing by having renewable energy. Im looking at the california,
