We take a live look out there late this morning. Were looking good and were already starting to feel it warming up in san jose with that bright sunshine right now. Even looking at woodside, you can see those low clouds on the coast and the marine layer pushed down about 1,000 feet. That will remain as we go through today and keeping those temperatures in the 60s there. Half moon bay, right now 64 degrees and inland areas. In livermore were up to 82 degrees. Its 77 in san jose and 80 now in fairfield with high temperatures continuing to rise into the mid to upper 80s and then some low 90s as well. Well be up to 86 degrees in san jose while livermore and in morgan hill, 92 degrees. San francisco will see a high of 67. After that there was a full investigation into his death thats under way. We have some good news on a brush fire thats been burning in rodeo in costa contra county. Were now told its 100 contained. The flames ignited yesterday threatening the nearby phillips oil refinery for some time. You see how close that was to the road. In the process, 370 acres of land burned. In the meantime, developing across the state, firefighters stretched to the limit battling close to 20 separate wildfires. This calfire map demonstrates how many fires are burning right now. The fires have forced thousands of people from their home in middle and southern california. Evacuations in orrville in buton county. Over the weekend they caused traffic jams, leaving many people searching for somewhere to sleep. The Fire Department came in the Mobile Home Park with a bullhorn telling everybody it was mandatory to leave. And san luis and san obispo counties are still burning, but conditions are supposed to improve over the next few days. Its not only people that have been impacted by this last round of fires. They have spent several days evacuating horses. Its difficult sometimes to get the animals to cooperate. The owner of the rescue center has been sleeping on an air mattress outside and near the horses because she doesnt want to use donations to the center to pay for a hotel room. My job is to protect them. The fire, ive never gone through anything like this, i cant imagine them with not being saved. As of yesterday, 15 horses were still there at the rescue center. Happening today, dont be alarmed if you see some smoke in the north bay. The petaluma Fire Department is conducting a controlled burn this week. That starts today off lakeville highway not far from highway 101. I suppose inland thinks its still going to be pretty warm . Its still going to be warm and well above average. Were going to bring those temperatures down, but it will bring us temporary relief before it really heats up again this weekend. Lets take a look outside. Were going to go around the bay area and see what it looks and feels like as you get out there right before noon. Were at 82 degrees in concord right now, and you see all that bright sunshine. Twin peaks, we are still seeing a layer of some low clouds rolling by, and its 66 degrees but mostly sunny all around the city. Looking from walnut creek toward mt. Diablo, we are getting some bright sun and warmer temperatures. Now the 7day forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen. Youll be able to check it out and see what im talking about when i say these temperatures will be getting hotter. Right now its 70 in fremont, so feels very nice there. A nice little breeze, too, showing those high temperatures today that will be topping out at 85 degrees. Well still be up to 92 today in morgan hill, and as we head to the east bay, 91 in antioch, concord 90 degrees and walnut creek at 89 while oakland will be at 71. In palo alto 79 degrees and some upper 70s in some spots, while San Francisco will keep the upper 50s and the Marina District and the embarcadero much warmer at 67 degrees. Heading over to the north bay, 86 degrees in napa, and mill valley will be topping out at 82 degrees. So mostly some upper 80s to lower 90s. Santa rosa will be up to 91 degrees. If you are planning for the rest of the afternoon to go golfing, hitting the links, you want to make sure you have somewhere nice and cool to relax, maybe taking breaks in the shade. Our temperatures in the trivalley will reach into the upper 80s and even some low 90s in a few spots before it slowly starts to cool down later this evening. That cooldown will be very slow. Now, as we go into the forecast for santa cruz, were going to be reaching into the low 70s today. But the nice breeze makes it feel very refreshing there. Then for this evening, skies will stay mostly clear. Well drop back to 59 degrees by 9 00. One thing well be keeping an eye on as we go through the week will be hurricane eugene. This storm continues through the weekend and it will most likely continue to do so over the next couple of days. Right now it has wind speeds of 85 miles an hour. Its just to the west of cabo, but this is something that could have a minor impact on our weather as we head toward the end of the week. Just something once again well be keeping an eye on. A neighborhood concerned this morning after a man was stabbed to death. Police say the suspect is a woman. Right now San Jose Police are sempi in searching for a killer after an attack. Neighbors say the violence there has been on the rise in the community. Reporter police were called out to this home on south Second Street this morning where they found a man who had been stabbed. One neighbor who didnt want his face shown because he feared for his safety told us in spanish that he saw the victim, a caucasian man in his 40s on a stretcher. He told us he had blood on his arms and blood on his stomach. He looked like he was badly injured. The man was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where he later died. Now police are looking for the woman they say stabbed him. One neighbor told us just last week a very angry woman threw something through the window of the home where this mornings attack happened. You can see the broken glass. Other neighbors say this area has become increasingly unsafe. There was too many. I was here about a mile around. Thats a lot of criminals. A few blocks away on south 10th street, a man shot and killed a woman inside a home. In late february outside a bar on Second Street, frank navarro, president of the eastridge middle league was stabbed to death. Across the street of this mornings homicide, a vietnamese buddha congregation. A symbol of peace in a neighborhood mashlrked with violence. Mary ann favro reporting on the stabbing sunday morning. Honoring a fallen officer, state lawmakers are reportedly getting closer to renaming a stretch of interstate 680 after a fallen bucart police officer. Crews will begin to work on a massive sinkhole that opened up more than a year ago after pounding rain hit the area. Public works says red tape have held things up until now, but repairs are finally set to begin on july 13th. People who live in the area arent exactly thrilled because that means more road closures, detours and delays. They block it off and then you go, what do i do now . Then you end up going through here and you cant get out once you get in and you have to go all the way around. At least 10 to 15 minutes, if not more. I rely heavily on my gps. Try to get through that maze. The work is expected to stretch all the way into october. The north marin Water District is is going to have to drain from a public water tank in novato. If my side is unable to agree on an adequate replacement, then some kind of action with regard to the private Health Insurance market must occur. We are just now starting to see a little bit of some sun now as we get a look at Half Moon Bay from our Weather Underground camera. This is where the temperatures will stay in the low 60s. Sausalito, we are warming up there, and you can see the sunshine. It is now 75 degrees. Were also feeling some warmer temperatures inland. Nothing but sunshine as we get a look at hamilton. The 7day forecast is coming up at the bottom of the screen. Youll be able to see how those temperatures are beginning to warm up. You can make plans accordingly, even now, for the weekend. Maybe you want to make plans to head somewhere cool, like along the coastline. Getting a look at some of those temperatures now. Santa rosa is at 76 degrees so it does still feel comfortable but were already feeling that heat ramp up in livermore. Its 82 degrees. But this is coming down from the high heat we had especially on saturday. Now we are on a downward trend over the next couple of days before temperatures go back up. So morgan hill were now at 80 degrees, san jose at 77. Let me show you the temperature change, though, from the past 24 hours and some of the inland areas actually right at about where we were yesterday or even a few degrees warmer. But then for gilroy, its actually seven degrees cooler than it was 24 hours ago. So we are starting to see some of that cooler air rolling across some of the gaps for some of the south county, but were still going to be up to 92 degrees in morgan hill, gilroy looking at some temperatures just slightly cooler as a result, and then in san jose, 86 degrees, while livermore will see highs up to 92 degrees, 90 in concord and oakland expecting a high of 71 degrees. We see it will be up to 20 degrees hotter today in santa rosa. As we look at whats going to happen over the napa valley over the next few days, we start out this week with a high of 86 degrees in napa today. Then tomorrow just a couple degrees cooler. Wednesday also looking very nice. But then toward the end of the week, as you see in the north bay, our temperatures will be heating up. San francisco stays in the 60s and well see that drizzle returning tomorrow. The marine layer pushed down to about 1,000 feet and it doesnt look to go anywhere as we go into at least thursday. But then after that clears out, our temperatures for the city will be heating up into the upper 70s for the weekend. It will start to feel warm there, and then we look at the valley. Its going to be much hotter. So actually where we begin this week still not all that cool. The coolest day will be tomorrow and wednesday, and thats still in the upper 80s, but then we go into the upper 90s this weekend, so i think well take it. Well appreciate that little bit of a break. Previously we ve reported the home owners have made a stink about mysterious odors flooding their luxury units. Now experts actually tell us those odors could be a fire risk within the walls of the sinking and leaning highrise. I knew i had a serious issue on my hands. I feel like the building has a serious issue. Reporter paula pretlo owns a condominium in the Millennium Tower. Shes concerned about whats hidden inside the walls of her 31st floor unit. Pretlo had long complained about unexplained odors. Last year the buildings Homeowners Association commission aid cred a crew of e to investigate. When they opened up her walls, they reported large gaps through the pipes and ducts burning through holes. Its those gaps, experts tell us, that can create a vulnerability during a fire. John darman is the fire captain who commissioned the investigation in the units. He says the opening should have been completely sealed with this kind of red firerated caulking. Such gaps could allow not just odors but also smoke and flames to rise into the units above. Darmonen says while city inspectors checked some seals during construction, it is up to the builder to make sure they are all properly protected. There was a failure confirmed already that it happened in this one unit. Did someone have a bad day that day . Lets hope. But if there are other units that are complaining of odors and no one is investigating because theyre afraid of what they might find out, i have a real problem with that if im a tenant or if im in the Fire Department. Reporter highrise fire safety expert arman wolfsky agreed more should be done to assess the high rise. Wolfsky says while sprinklers should contain most high rise fires, any unsealed floor openings could lead to smoke damage in a small fire or even help one get bigger.
