It makes the third just like this month alone. Nbc bay areas pete suratos has more on this issue. Good morning to you guys, back in the studio we see several of these types of water rescues in the past month across the bay area, including one not too far from here at Oyster Point Marina in south San Francisco. That one taking place over the weekend but we show you some of the new video from some of the most recent water rescue in santa cruz. You can see in that video the coast guard in action just yesterday using a helicopter to save a kite surfer. Crew members were eventually able to save that kite surfer who didnt suffer any major injuries and then on saturday yet another similar rescue near oyster point, a couple of days beforehand where a kite surfer and instructor were rescued more towards the sfo area. This case involved individuals not wearing a live jacket and they had to hold on to a buoy during that rescue. And with all that said, the coast guard wants to remind people to be very aware of the conditions while they are out there in the water, and if need be travel with a group so someone can call for help if needed. In south San Francisco, pete suratos, nbc bay area news. 3 shot down the line toss to wx. Now it is only tuesday, and i know this drives you absolutely nuts, but the weekend is not that far away. I know. And the beach, well get some beach weather here. Listen, i dont know that were planning for the following weekend because this one was kind of difficult for folks who wanted to be outside so lets go forward. Yeah. It was cool. A little too cool for the beach i think. Yeah. This weekend temperatures will be warming up, and we are going to have some warmer weather all around the bay area. This is what it feels like right now at the outer sunset and there you go. Not that much in the way of some beach weather. You see the cloudy skies and the temperature there at 57 degrees. But we do some clearing in los gatos right now. Its 63 and a few clouds still rolling but, but well get more sunshine as we look across all of our microclimates. Partly cloudy in the south bay and its mostly sunny in the peninsula, in parts of the peninsula. Its 61 degrees. Where we do have the warmer weather, we also have more sunshine, but its still breezy, and only 54 degrees right now in San Francisco. I want to show you those winds because this will be an issue, especially in San Francisco, and into the delta as we go through the rest of the day. Our winds sustained at about 20 to 25 miles an hour, and there could be some gusts up to 30. Thats going to make it feel cooler, but then were going to see High Temperatures in parts of the south bay up to 73 degrees in morgan hill. Also 73 in danville. Heyward only up to 65 degrees and seeing the High Temperatures in the the 70s for palo alto and 75 degrees in san matteo. The marine district is at 60 degrees and 75 degrees in novato. A very nice and comfortable day thanks to all of that sunshine. As we get a live look outside at the south bay right now and temperature trend for the rest of the day. By 3 00 well be hitting our High Temperature and then slowly starting to go back down, but well also have more clouds moving in. There will be a light chance we could have drizzle and mist heading into early tomorrow morning, and we ear still seeing the clouds looking outside at at t park getting ready for another giants game later this evening. You can see the flags just waving this over mccovey cove, and it will be windy this evening if youre going out to the game. Look at these temperatures. As you get ready for the game, it will only be 57 degrees and mostly cloudy skies. Our temperatures hold steady in the 50s as we go into the evening, and well have some warmer air in the forecast. This is what were all going to be talking about heading into the weekend. Its going to feel a little bit more like summer for the inland valleys reaching 86 degrees on sunday. Ill have another look at the forecast coming up a little bit later. All right. Thank you very much. Classrooms in the south bay could be getting very hot. The university of michigan archaeology, an american scientist, bought that piece in 1944 and excuse me, 1945 and bequeathed it to the museum and the piece now will be returned back to egypt. Coming back with more news. Lets go back to washington right now. The introductory remarks are over. Sean spicer getting into the meat of this first press broefg since the president s trip abroad asking about health care and other topics. Lets listen in. How much more american blood and treasure is the president willing to expend, and does he think its a winnable conflict . I think the conflict that he wants to defeat isis. He wants to defeat al qaeda. He wants to defeat threats, to defeat terrorism. I think i just read to you throughout the trip that was the common threat, uniting the muslim world, talking about it with Prime Minister netanyahu and president abbas and talking about it even with the pope, that wherever he went on this nineday trip, protecting our country, protecting the worlds people was at front of that discussion, and i think he wants to do whatever he has to do to make sure that our country is safe and our people are safe. Thats why hes asked for this review. Let me ask you a couple, if you dont mind, first on tax reform. The president tweeted over the weekend that it was going, quote, very well. You just used the word progress. However, republicans on the hill still appear to be divided. The president tweeted today maybe they should reverse the filibuster rule so im wondering what the progress is and what is it thats going very well . I think the reception that secretary mnuchin and others on the staff have gotten from leadership and members of the house ways and means committee, senate finance, et cetera, has been very welcoming as well as in the business community, but obviously part of as i just mentioned to the previous question, part of the reason that hes frustrated with the senate rules is because when there is a majority of support on key issues or key people as in the confirmation process, he thinks its standing in the way of progress that had the American People have asked for. Let me ask you about the fbi director. Before the foreign trip Joe Lieberman was the leading candidate identified by the president. Right. Mr. Lieberman is out. Where does the fbi director search stand . John pistole, is he a leading candidate . The president will meet with candidates today and continue to do so until he finds the right leader. Had they the two finalists or two of a . The president is the ultimate decisionmaker. When he makes a decision as to who he believes is best to lead the fbi he heel let us know. Katie. The president treated that tax reform is going well, but you just said hes actually frustrated with the lack of progress in the senate. So does the white house still stand by its august deadline of tax reform and do they believe that tax reform and Health Care Still going to get done this year . The talks that secretary mnuchin and other staff have had, getting to the president s tax reform proposal is welcoming. The president finds it frustrating how the senate operates. Again, im dating this back to the holdup that they had on some of these unbelievably well qualified nominees, so they are not were we dont want to mix those two issues together, but i think he feels very encouraged by the reception that hes gotten to tax reform. Secretary mnuchin, who made the comment about august, talked about that was a goal, that well continue to work as hard as we can to get it done, but weve got a pretty bold agenda. Still pushing hard on health care. Infrastructure is a priority of his, so the president s legislative agenda is in full swing. Sean, where do you all right. Youve been listening to sean spicer there and kind of remarkable just to observe his tone which seems a little snappier, more kurt and more to the point, certainly shorter responses with reporters as this is the first time that weve heard from him in weeks, after the president s trip abroad and there are surge rumors swirling right now that his job is in jeopardy. Thats because his own boss has resigned and well see how this all shakes out. Still ahead what, took so long. Were hitting this with all our extinguishers and were getting more from pg e. We knock it down, it seems to be coming back so we may want to get that 2 unit responding out here. Reporter but it took another 30 minutes to get that truck to the scene with its 40 tanks of firesmothering carbon dioxide. By then the fire had largely burned itself out. What we found is frankly quite troubling. Reporter supervisor peskin told us that he still cant believe how long it took for peege to get a supervisor to the scene. Quite frankly its shades of san bruno. I think San Francisco was very lucky that the fire didnt go out of control. Reporter the National Transportation safety board san bruno probe was highly critical of pg es response to the september 2010 gas pipeline explosion. Not only did pg e fail to report the fire, there was a 40minute delay in shutting off the gas. In the end eight people were killed and 38 homes destroyed. Pg e ended up paying more than 1. 6 billion in fines and other penalties for its handling of the incident and other safety violations. Peskin fears that not much has changed. In the fact that in the wake of san bruno, pg e still doesnt have basic safety protocols in place and demands an investigate. Reporter pg e told us they had their own First Responder crews at the scene at 9 25 before the company alerted San Francisco authorities. But they did not answer questions related to their handling of the incident. The utility has brought in an outside engineering crew to determine what happened.
