Why didnt he think it was an emergency, it was a messenger, from sally yates, who you call a political opponent of the president or can you explain what he meant by that . I cant specifically say what he meant by that again, look at the time line. We went over this the other day. Asked and answered multiple times, the attorney general said, they informed the president. Asked for documents and materials she referred to back five or six days to get those. They reviewed them. Asked to resign shortly therefore. There is a difference, that was the review process in thissis case. The president noted in his interview, he had been thinking about it for a long time. The Justice Department did a review. One of the reasons he wants to go through the process of finding an individual who can lead the fbi, and the men and women who serve there bravely and ably, is to make sure that moral and focus is where it is supposed to be. The reason that he wants to go through this process, and choose a leader that can be restore leadership, ensure that moral stays where it needs to be. That crash happened it at the height of the morning commute on eastbound 580 near the grant line road on ramp. A commuter bus carrying 55 it tesla employees plowed into a white volkswagen bug. Sadly we have confirmed the Alameda County Sheriffs Office that the driver who was killed here in livermore on eastbound 580 behind me just past grant line was one of their own, an Alameda County sheriffs deputy who was offduty. This was the scene within the past 60 minutes as the california Highway Patrol cleared traffic here on 580 so the Sheriffs Office could escort the deputys body away from the crash scene. This procession continues to the Coroners Office. The deputy was killed when his white bug stalled. At around 7 10 a bus carrying around 50 tesla employees slammed into the back of the bug at freeway speed. The bus driver tells chp he didnt see the stalled car because he was blinded by the sun rise. One person on the bus was treated for minor injuries. Chp says its too early to tell if that bus driver will face any charges. When it became clear to chp the driver of the vw bug was a deputy, they covered his body with an American Flag and then two chp officers saluted his body in a sign of respect for his service. I spoke with an Alameda County sheriffs sergeant who was clearly broken up by the news of this colleagues death noting this was the second deputy killed within a month for that agency. We should be learning more about a noon News Conference scheduled at the chp. The bus was hired by tesla to carry employees to stockton. The electric car company reads a statement that reads in part, all it tesla employees that were on the bus are safe and accounted for. However, we are deeply saddened by reports there was a fatality as a result of the accident. We will lend any support that we can to the authorities who are investigating incident. Chp does not know when this accident scene will be cleared. You can see in the back of those headlights thats eastbound 580 traffic heading over the altamont into tracy. Whenever they do have the scene cleared that backup will be cleared in time for the afternoon commute. So, in other words, they are saying the afternoon commute will be bad. Folks use 580 to get out into the sierra. This is jammed up six, almost seven miles all the way to the scene. People are trying to use patterson path road but it is jammed because its been there for so long and we dont know when the lanes will clear. If you are heading to the central valley, plan on using the bridges up in vacaville and then on towards sacramento and join up with i80. Slowing across the antioch bridge. There are options for you but right now that area is jammed eastbound because the crash is still in lanes. An ongoing situation. Thank you for the update. The search for a serial arsonist intensifying in Contra Costa County after two more cars were torched overnight. Just this morning investigators confirmed that they are connected to five other car fires that we reported on earlier this week. In all that makes seven car fires in lafayette, walnut creek, martinez, brentwood, all of this since monday. As for last night the first fire broke out at walnut creek about 2 00 in the morning. Here is some video of it. And then ten minutes after that another vehicle was set ablaze in lafayette just about three miles away from the first fire. This morning investigators told us that there are just clearly a Common Thread connecting all of these car fires. Theres a whole bunch of things that can be common. Weve seen various things that lead us to believe either the same person or the same group of people are responsible for igniting these fires. Investigators releasing this video of a person of interest you see walking in the top part of the frame of the camera from brentwood near the scene of one of othose fires. We brought you breaking news on today in the bay. This happened about half an hour drive from columbus, ohio. The shooter shot the police chief as he was respond iing to reports of a man with a gun there. Before then entering the care center himself. Police were eventually able to surround the nursing home and the shooter who reportedly then turned the gun on himself. So this went from just a civil thing potentially to a criminal case as well. Adding further to ubers no good very bad day, the city of San Francisco wants to see yuber driver records. Remember, San Francisco requires uber drivers to hold a business license. The city hasnt really cracked down on that until now. Recently facebook announced it would add 3,000 new employees to monitor videos to watch for the most awful of content, murder and suicide and pornography, and shut those videos down before they hit your feet. More men now coming forward saying that they were scammed at strip clubs in San Francisco. Our Investigative Unit brought that issue to light. Prosecutors say they dont have enough evidence. Clubs say thats for good reason, that it never happened. Reporter atlanta i. T. Professional is one of a growing number of San Francisco strip club patrons who say theyve been ripped off. The 33yearold recalls how an impromptu celebration at a club at the end of a business trip it turned into a nightmare that he says left him blacked out with tens of dollars of sudden debt. Its actually ruined my life to this point. My credit is ruined because i dont have the money to pay it. I have a mortgage. We have a car note, student loans. A pretty normal person. Reporter so far 25 people like him have filed reports of fraud against six strip clubs over the last three years. At this point were hitting a wall. Reporter the District Attorneys Office says the case is frustrating. The prosecutor in me is suspicious of 29 incidents occurring that is unequivocal. Yeah, whether youre flying out or your mom is coming into the bay area, its going to be gorgeous. Weve been seeing some breezy to windy conditions right now along the peninsula. Were still in the 60s, San Francisco right now at about 57 degre degrees. The north bay a nice 64. And east bay at 64 degrees. Weve stayed in the 50s for a pretty long time. We started off in that zone and it looks like were not going to climb above those 60s. Now overall the wind speeds now still looking pretty breezy along the coastline and San Francisco still at about 20 miles an hour. And if we fast forward through the 3 00 hour we do see those winds picking up at hayward 21 miles an hour. San francisco at about 25 and even out near oakland at 21. So we do start seeing the wind decreasing but all in all we will stay on the breezy to windy side even through dipper time. Friday at about 7 00 tonight well still keep the 20 plus Miles Per Hour especially along the coastline, but the winds are expected to die down especially after midnight. Your highs for today will be unseasonable. Well be climbing only into the mid to upper 60s, even for inland areas. A high of about 67. Some gusts ranging between 25 and possibly 30 miles an hour. 66 degrees for the trivalley. A high of 67 for the south bay. East bay at 63 degrees. You can see that flag waving nicely out there. On saturday pope francis will make two children saints during mass. After School Programs will start costing San Francisco families some serious money. The School District has to start charging parents to enroll kids in after school and summer programs. Those programs were federally funded but now the district faces a 3. 3 million loss in those federal funds. These fees will cost families anywhere between 50 to 500 based on their income. A mistake by the Fire Department charging for inspections. The city invoiced dozens of residents in the past few weeks and the homeowners say the inspections never actually happened or they were never told about them. The city is planning to extend the payment deadline to july 20th to go back and figure out who does need to pay and who does not. A story now from farther north of northern california, about a quarter million hatchery salmon able to survive the oroville spillway collapse could not survive a pump failure. Fish and wildlife says the fish were rescued when mud washed into the river from the spillway erosion. The baby fish were trucked to an annex but then there was a pump failure that left them without enough oxygen. The salmon are not considered to be endangered and its not expected to impact the industry. We want to update you on the breaking news, very sad news we started our newscast with. There was a crash on around 7 00 this morning. Now we know the flagdraped body is that of an Alameda County sheriffs deputy who was killed when the car that he was in was smashed from behind by a commuter bus carrying tesla employees. One of the points we learned this morning the bus driver who spoke to officers on the scene, there was such glare from the sun rise. This happened at about 7 00 this morning that it caused him to hit the car, that volkswagen you mentioned, parked and stalled out on the shoulder of the highway and that is what precipitated all of this. What youre seeing is a procession of Law Enforcement agents that were headed off to the Coroners Office with the body of that officer whose name has not been revealed just yet. What youre looking at right now is a podium set up outside the Alameda County sheriffs department. They along with the chp will update the investigation into what happened and perhaps tell us more about that deputy who died so sadly this morning at 7 00. I believe for the department this is the second time in the last month that they have lost a deputy. Obviously a heavy day for Law Enforcement.
