Here is what we want as a society. We want fairness in how people treat us. We want respect and we want dignity. Thats it. Not a big deal. This seems so simple. Forget the law for a minute that requires common decency in the treatment of passengers but just treat us with respect. We also learned more about dr. Dao who, remember, united now says is blameless in this. His lawyer says he suffered a concussion, broken teeth and a broken nose at the hands of chicago police. All of the officers have been suspended, by the way, and apparently dao has no memory of getting back on the plane. Here is dr. Daos daughter. What happened to my dad should have never happened to any human being regardless of the circumstance. We are horrified and shocked and sickened to learn what happened to him and to see what had happened to him. We hope that in the future nothing like this happens again. United a short time ago issued a response to the press conference, saying it has been, you know, contrite this whole time, saying it is remaining committed to making this right. They havent said specifically what that is. It also pledged, as we reported earlier this morning, never to send another Police Officer on to an airplane to remove a passenger unless it is a it maar of safety, which even united now says this absolutely was not. New at 11 00, San Francisco Police Looking for several suspects who apparently dragged a woman off a muni bus and robbed her. It happened last night shortly after 9 30 in the area of fill more and mcallister treat in the western division. A 30yearold woman was on her phone when one of the suspects tried to steal the phone. The woman fought back and thats within police say at least nine other suspects, mostly boys and girls, young ones, joined in. Police say they robbed her and took off running. After years of debate and ballooning costs, new construction finally begins soon on the Golden Gate Bridge suicide barrier. Nbc bay areas pete suratos joining us live by the bridge. There have been 39 suicide deaths on the Golden Gate Bridge just last year, and starting next month were going to see the beginning of the construction of this suicide deterrent. Now, not too long ago we heard from a number of notable speakers here near the Golden Gate Bridge to commemorate this moment. We will show you video. You see House Minority leader nancy pelosi and senator Dianne Feinstein speaking in front of a crowd of supporters at the Golden Gate Bridge welcome center. We will show you video of a rendering of what the deterrent will look like. It will be made of stainless steel, 20 feet from the sidewalk, extending 20 feet out on both sides of the Golden Gate Bridge. This is a 200 million project that was first approved in 2014, and it will take years to finish, but we heard from the House Minority leader and she is pleased to see this construction getting underway. It was filed by wildlife conservationists out of tucson, arizona. You are looking at proposed designs for the wall. They argue it would be detrimental to animals such as jaguars and other animals that are known to cross the border. The lawsuit is asking a judge to require the department of Homeland Security to do a study on the Environment Impact of the wall. According to the mercury ninews rodney hoobauer will stand trial for a string of homicides in 1976. Their bodies were discovered on jip situate hill role. State regulators want to find the Transit Agency for alleged safety lapses in the deaths of two track workers hit by a train during the strike in 2013. Only on nbc bay area, Investigative Reporter Jackson Vander Beck enhas barts Surveillance Video of the accident, the video that shows how the rookie operator tried but failed to sound the horn before hitting the workers. But were only showing portions that state regulators argue are evidence that bart sacrificed safety leading to the deaths of two track workers behind me four years ago. That saturday afternoon in october marked the first day that the driver of bart maintenance superintendent, had ever run a train on barts main system. Under a Plan Detailed in this document obtained by nbc bay area, he and other managers were being trained to fill in for striking workers. Normal 14week training time was to be cut in half. He and other rookie managers would move around empty trains andni allow more experienced managers to operate passenger trains. For much of the next 25 minutes the trainee is driving train 963 alone. Bart engineer Christopher Sheppard and consultant Lawrence Daniels were here checking on a dip in the rail north of walnut creek station. They ventured on to the tracks under barts rule that allowed them to gauge the risk on their own. But they didnt realize they were behind a long curve that kept them from seeing an oncoming train until it was too late. They also dont have the required lookout. At 1 30 p. He then hits the brakes but it is too late. We stop the video right before impact. Bart emergency. Bart emergency. Bart emergency, go ahead, tral. Central, train nine six three. We just struck some individuals at approximately sixteen decimal two on the c one track. Reporter barts report issued just this january concludes that their deaths were unavoidable. Under barts policy, the workers were individually responsible for providing their own protection. Bart concluded adherence to the rules would have prevented the accident. Theyre blaming the victims for this. It is shameful. It really is. Reporter state senator jerry hill believes bart needs to be held accountable for theni laps he sees in the video. No one was properly trained. No one was doing the job that they were supposed to do for safety. Reporter the Public Utilities Commission Wants to fine bart 600,000 for having a, quote, poor and inadequate safety culture. Regulators contend bart should have either banned workers from the deadly curve can or at least made sure trains automatically slowed for workers ahead. Bart quickly abandoned its policy of having workers largely responsible for safety. It also agreed to regulators demand that it tighten lookout rules, improve communications and stop all trains when workers are within six feet of the rail. Despite those changes, bart insists it has had a robust Safety Record all along. The violations alleged by the cpuc concern can an individual employees violation of a bart rule, not a gap in barts safety rules or a general failure by bart to enforce those rules, they told us in a statement. Although bart now says he broke several of its rules, assistant chief transportation officer paul liston retired last year without any discipline. The nickname of the munition is the mother of all bombs. It is the largest nonnuclear bomb the military has in its arsenal. Thats a p ma of where it happened in eastern afghanistan on the border with pakistan. The pentagon says it is a gbu43 bomb officially. It contains 11 tons of explosives. And today was the firstever combat use of that bomb. It was dropped on a cave complex believed to be used by isis fighters. This in the achin strict close to the pakistan border. They say an officer in a patrol car hit another car with three people inside it. The officer was responding to a call about a chase at the time of the crash. The suspect in the chase was wanted for murder and was taken into custody. Investigators cleared the scene of a deadly twocar crash in san jose. It happened just before 10 00 last night near highway 85 near the oakridge mall. The driver of one car died, the other driver was critically injured. This is san joses 14th trafficrelated death this year. Thieves at Fishermans Wharf left a bay area resident crushed by taking the ashes of her deceased father. She says someone took almost from the trunk of her rented car as she and her mother walked along pier 39. They planned to scatter his ashes today. It would have been his 57th birthday.
