You can expect that were going to be hearing a good deal about Hillary Clintons emails and about Donald Trumps tape and all of the women that have come out since that second debate to claim that he sexually went after them. We are expecting that the debate will have a number of surrogates in the spin room afterwards. Well be going to the spin room to hear from them. Donald trump needs to win this debate tonight. In the meantime, Donald Trumps claims of a rigged election have state and county Election Officials nationwide rushing to reassure voters. Today south bay officials are addressing the issues. Nbc bay areas bob redell live in san jose with more. Bob. Reporter well, good morning to you laura. As you can see theyre just getting ready to begin the News Conference here at the Santa Clara County registrar of voters. You have the Santa Clara County board of supervisors official who just stepped up to the podium. Well also hear from the county executi executive. Theyre holding the conference to alie voter concerns about intimidation at the polls to reassure them that theyll be able to safely exercise their right to vote. This comes after republican president ial candidate donald trump warned supporters that there could be voter fraud at the polls and has therefore asked his followers to monitor the polls on election day. The fear is that voters, especially minorities, could end up being intimidated. So we are expecting them to address this at any moment. The theyll also remind people about the deadlines before the november 8th election. For example, here in the south bay the deadline to register to vote is october 24th, which is next week. And then early voting is actually under way in many different areas. Theyre here to inform the public and to allay those concerns. Lets listen in quickly to the president of the board of supervisors. Weve all heard talk on social media and obviously in the National Media just about everywhere in this president ial cycle of late about possible election rigging. Possible voter fraud and that voters should visit polling places to monitor the election process. At least thats the kind of words that were hearing from others. Not from this board of supervisors or this county, but from people, including the major party candidates. While the suggestion of election rigging and voter fraud is completely unfounded and ridiculous, we dont take this lightly. These kind of statements, were afraid, may discourage voters to come to the polls if they fear that theyll be harassed, if they fear that it will be an uncomfortable experience. Reporter again, this is the president of the santa clara board of supervisors. Hell speak along with the county executive and the registrar of voters. Reporter which is exactly why this story house such a happy ending. Its not in the job description, no. But its in the description of being a human being. Reporter it all started with a complaint two years ago about a yard overgrown with weeds. The yard belongs to al pericou, an 89yearold world war ii veteran. Joe had to return multiple times as al tried and failed to get a handle on the situation. Whats more, joe discovered, the inside of the house was not much better. Its been a while since he called you, huh . Reporter still, instead of handing out a ticket, joe decided to lend him a hand. We work with joe all the time. And he is he has the biggest heart in the world. Reporter Jane Hamilton is executive director at rebuilding together, a nonprofit that helps lowincome people just like al with home repairs. It says rebuild two bathroom floors, install shower in one reporter when joe told jane als story, she was in. Just one problem. As soon as we realized how serious the problem was, we went, okay, how are we going to pay for all this. Reporter with just a single call to home depot, 10,000 and a team of volunteers were dispatched. But there were dozens of others too. Contractors, firefighters, Police Officers, all chipping in. If it was going to take a village to fix up als place, well, the city of petaluma seemed up to the task. It makes me proud to be in petaluma. Its such a great, Great Network of people. Boy, what a difference since this morning. Reporter in the end, as much as al appreciated all the help on the house. He is a real nice guy. Reporter he seems to be loving the company even more. While he once wanted to curse whichever neighbor complained about his home in the first place, he would have a different message today. If i found out who did it, i would go shake his hand and congratulate you for turning me in to having too many weeds growing. I would have never had this done if it wasnt for you because i never would have met this gentleman. Reporter rebuilding together says while some aspects of als story were unique the scope of the job they did fixing up his house is typical of the work they do. Garvin thomas, nbc bay area news.
