Steph, we know who the victims are. Do we know what to the suspects . We dont know. We just got new information from sfpd saying that the gunman apparently carjacked someone else, an innocent bystander at the time around 2 00 in the morning sunday. That vehicle is a gmc yukon denali. This is what weve just learned. Police are warning people not to approach that vehicle if they see it. You can see just how crowded it gets at Twin Peaks Lookout where you have a lot of people, dozens stopping by all throughout the morning. And they have been quite unnerved hearing about what happened not 48 hours ago. Visitors seeking sweeping views of the city are also seeing a lot of security unofficially sweeping the Twin Peaks Lookout. San Francisco Police say this is where a gunman shot three young men sunday morning killing two of them and leaving an 18yearold fighting for his life. I grew up here and have never heard that happen before. Unfortunately, i think that bowing a tourist area and being a place that we bring our children, like me, its very sad to me. Reporter police have already upped patrols around twin peaks for the last couple of weeks after two people maced and robbed a woman visiting from out of town on january 27th. Im not surprised at all. Reporter tom lives in the area. He believes the shooting was just a matter of time. Theres a lot of alcohol bottles and cases of beer left over and lots of people up here during the nighttime. Reporter once again what weve just learned is that police in San Francisco are looking for this vehicle, a gmc yukon denali with license plate 5pju851, a dark gray suv. Police believe the man who shot these three other guys is driving this suv, that this gunman stole this suv from an innocent bystander, again, after 2 00 sunday morning. Theyre warning if you do see that car, do not approach that vehicle and just call 911. Theres also surveillance security cameras in this area but unclear how much footage investigators will be able to use as it was quite dark during that time. Stephanie chuang, nbc bay area news. A day on the slopes at Cannon Mountain ski resort in New Hampshire turned into a harrowing rescue when two tram cars suddenly stopped, leaving dozens stranded 40 feet in the air for almost three hours in subzero temperatures. After what passengers described as a severe jolt, one tram came to a rest near the top of the 4,000foot summit, the other near the base of the mountain. Among the 48 people trapped, an 8monthold baby. With the mercury around a frigid negative 4 degrees. Blankets were sent up to the top car to help guests stay warm until help arrived. Then one by one ski patrol and firefighters rappelled each other down from a trap down from the trams. Thankfully no one was injured and no reports of any frostbite. Officials say a mechanical issue and not the cold caused the brakes to somehow engage and get stuck, making for an unexpected downhill situation for those on board. That was Natalie Morales reporting. The tramway has not yet reopened. Crews are still working to resolve the issue. Then as that weather system approaches on wednesday with more clouds, well see highs in the 50s along the immediate coast and some 60s for those inland areas. As far as how much rain we could see, were looking at the possibility of a half of an inch yeah, half of an inch to an inch and a half for most of the bay area. Might be a little less for san jose and farther to the south. Looking at that temperature trend, well bring it back closer to normal after getting up to 78 degrees today, 76 tomorrow. The average high is just 64 degrees. We will start to get a little bit more comfortable heading toward the endi of the week. As you make those weekend outdoor plans, the rain will be out of here, highs in the mid to upper 60s, were up to 70 degrees on sunday and some upper 60s for the east bay, but overall after a recordbreaking start to the week, we will have something a little bit more comfortable, an average for february and well see the sunshine returning too. Kris and scott. Thank you, kari. Well be right back. There could be something terribly wrong with their tax just a few weeks into tax season and already the irs is alerting taxpayers there could be something horribly wrong with their tax returns. We get this story from nbcs chris clackum. Reporter american taxpayers across the country are getting letters from the irs that shows the agency is again dealing with an onslaught of fraudulent tax returns. Unfortunately for consumers, tax return fraud is not going to go away any time soon. Reporter kelly grant has been writing about it and says troubles can be traced back to last years Data Security breaches where millions of Social Security numbers ended up in the hands of identity thieves. The thieves then use the number to file a fake return and get other peoples tax refunds. In most cases we are hearing that theyre efiling and doing this in massive amounts of returns and they know a lot will be rejected or caught by the irs. Reporter she says taxpayers should take comfort that many are being caught by the irs and more security measures are in place to detect the real return from a fake one. But the individual cant do much to prevent fraud except to file before the thief does. Try to get all of that done so that as soon as you have all of your w2s, 1099s, that you can file right away. Reporter which means trying to file your return by the end of this week. Chris clackum, nbc news.
