Good morning to you. Thanks so much for joining us. Im laura garciacannonin for kris sanchez. And im scott mcgrew. We are also tracking a bizarre case out of the east bay. A man runs away from deputies, jumps to his death into a cemetery. Very strange. Nbc bay areas bob redell is live in lorenzo. Bob, i understand you just got an update from the Sheriffs Office. Reporter we did. Good morning. Around 12 30 this morning deputies were trying to pull over the 40yearold driver of a stolen pickup behind me here. But for whatever reason instead of stopping, he went up the onramp and up there to highway 238 where when he was up there he jumped out of the car. He fled and he hopped that chain link fence, perhaps not realizing in the dark that it led to a 20 to 30 foot drop in the san lorenzo Pioneer Cemetery where he ended up meeting his own death. He could have pulled over an the boulevard. He had an opportunity to do that or somewhere on the onramp but chose to go up on to the highway. And at that point is when he got out and started running. As he was running from the deputies he climbed over a chain link fence, which is on the freeway. What he may or may wanot have known is that there was about a 30 or 40 foot dropoff that led right into the cemetery. The founding cemetery of san lorenzo. Reporter Law Enforcement tells us they called an ambulance, performed cpr on the man but he did not survive the fall. He ended up dying not far from the graves of other people buried here, some back from the 1800s. Now, the Alameda County coroner has identified the man as a 40yearold man, as i mentioned. He was from redwood city. Law enforcement says he has an extensive criminal history involving weapons, violence and other crimes. Deputies did arrest the passenger in his vehicle, the stolen toyota. That passenger arrested on charges related to methamphetamine. Reporting live in san lorenzo, bob redell, nbc bay area news. Sad story. Bob, thanks. New clues emerging from the deadly b. A. R. T. A young man accused of driving drunk and crashing into a San Francisco cable car operator was in court this morning. It comes just two days after the operator died in the hospital, months after the crash that happened back in june of last year. Nbc bay areas Stephanie Chuang is in San Francisco. Stephanie, theyre postponing this hearing in light of this mans death. Reporter yeah, absolutely, scott and laura. I talked with the spokesperson from the District Attorneys Office here from the hall of justice and he says with the victim dying this really changes everything. This means the charges could either include or change to more serious ones. At this point everything is on the table. Now, the man accused of driving his motorcycle drunk back in june of last year, did not talk to us this morning in court. According to lincoln he works in sales and financials at bloomberg. It appears he still works there. Hes been out on 100,000 bail. The d. A. Office charged him with two felony counts of driving under the influence of alcohol with causing great bodily injury. But with the death of the victim, that could go up. A terrible tragedy. My client is devastated by it. As youll learn the accident was really unavoidable. But he feels very, very badly about it and is incredibly sorry and sends regrets to the family. The death of the victim opens a variety of additional charges that are possibility, but we still need to assess the facts in this case in order to make a determination as to what those appropriate charges there are that could be added. Reporter San Francisco poli arrested him on june 11th near taylor and francisco streets after allegedly running into the victim whod just gotten off his cable car at the end of the line at night. Now, his colleagues and friends posted an article as a tribute to the victim, 50yearold reynaldo who died Tuesday Morning after being in a coma since being hit back in june. He had been a cable car operator for less than two years. His friends this morning told me that hed worked for about 20 years driving muni buses before that and is survived by two adult children. His friends also told me he always had a smile on his face and really impacted his death. Anthony, you predict and well all go to the show. And maybe you can stay in and do some netflix watching too. Theres some good shows on there as well. Then i dont have to get dressed up. There you go. Stay in your pjs at home. Snuggle up. We have some rain moving in as you were mentioning. So maybe a good day to snuggle in if youve got the day off. Notice some showers starting to fall across the north bay just as we were thinking right around lunchtime. A lot of this stuff is very light and most of its not reaching the ground. But as we head over towards point arena youll notice heavier rain there. All of this stiff very light and will continue to be light at least for the next half hour before more heavy rain pushes back into the north bay. For San Francisco and points south towards the east bay and peninsula, well see showers as we head towards rush hour. Once the sun does go down. Allow us to get close to 60 in the south bay, 59 for the peninsula today, 60 for the ooegs bay. Trivalley up to 62 with shower activity moving in by rush hour. San francisco were already cloudy. Same for the north bay and showers will start to fall momentarily in San Francisco and the north bay. For the rest of us it will arrive as the sun goes down. We have two more storm systems on the heels of this one. Thats going to move in today. Saturday another storm moves in and another one for sunday into monday. So lets time out this first storm. You can see the clouds are very extensive, even if youve been on at any point today notice lots of cloud cover. As we put this into motion notice by 2 00, 3 00, showers move into San Francisco over towards the east bay as well but still dry across the south bay. San jose, los gatos, morgan hill, still dry 2 00, 3 00. Around 5 00 and 6 00 well start to see showers across the south bay. Some will be heavy at times especially towards the evening commute. After about 9 00, 10 00 skies will start to clear out and showers will start to taper off. And were looking at a decent amount at least for this shot of rain thats headed our way. The potential of half an inch or more across parts of the north bay. San francisco, oakland towards the east bay and south bay much lesser amounts. Anywhere from about half an inch in oakland to about less than a quarter of an inch for the south bay. Again, decent amounts. And its all going to come very quickly. So were not talking about potential for at least any flash flooding. The good news, not a whole lot of rain headed our way tonight. We have a lot of rain headed our way over the next several days. We have another storm system mufing in friday night into saturday. This one again not going to be huge, but it will keep skies gray into the weekend, at least for the first half of saturday. Then for sunday evening this is the one im more concerned about. I think well actually get a decent amount of rain, talking about an inch possible in our inland locations and more gusty winds associated with this storm system expected to move in for your monday morning commute. So just keep that in the back of your mind as you get ready for your monday morning. The computer models have been going back and forth how much rain were going to see over the next seven days. We have another system on the heels of that one coming in for monday. So that could mean for an additional inch. So with those two big systems for next week, we could be looking at two inches across the entire bay area. But again, computer models still going back and forth. I do think with the first two chances of rain were going to see at least for tonight and for saturday at least half an inch in inland locations, probably an inch across the north bay. It will stay very active across the bay area over the next couple days. Showers arrive tonight. Temperatures stay mild in the south bay, same for San Francisco. Upper 50s to low 60s overall. And showers will continue in San Francisco again for saturday and then the one right on that heels comes in for sunday evening into monday. Overall its going to stay wet, but thing to note sunday night into monday that will be the biggest storm system over the next three. Back to you. Okay. Bringing snow to the sierra which is great too. We do have some liquid precipitation headed our way. In fact, a cold front started to make its way into the coastline right now. Eureka getting hammered with rain. North bay seeing showers along santa rosa and 101, coastline, bodega bay, point arina, sky cam from tiburon it is dark over the inner bay. Temperatures are cool back at 55 degrees. 56 in fremont traffic moving smoothly there. And this is the one location we have some sunshine across the south bay. 58 degrees right now in the silicon valley. Now, heres our first storm system thats making its way to the coastline right now. We have another storm going to impact the bay for saturday. If you have weekend plans, heads up, you may get dry time before our next system moves in on sunday night. So i really think the time if you try to make any outdoor plans would come early on sunday because another storm system is right on its heels. We have a very active pattern. Lets time this out for you. The first storm going to move through this afternoon 2 00 showers and widespread heavy rain across parts of the north bay. But for most of the south bay its still going to be dry until about 4 00 or 5 00. Thats when well start to see showers push into the south bay and east bay as well. So widespread rain expected for your eching commute. This is 5 00 this evening. And it continues to rain until about 7 00 or 8 00 and then things will lighten up and become more widely scattered. After midnight i do think things will start to clear out and well see some sunshine as we head towards your friday. Now, your thursday forecast brings san jose up to 60 degrees. Clouds on the increase for the entire bay. 57 for san mateo and mostly cloudy for San Francisco with showers beginning in just the next couple hours. Embarcadero temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. 59 for mill valley. Thats where well have the best chance of seeing any showers while the sun is up. Once the sun goes down after sunset showers will spread towards heyward, concord and trivalley as well. This is how much rain were expecting from the first system thats going to move through today. Upwards of half an inch across parts of the north bay and maybe less than that for San Francisco, oakland. And it looks like well see a general quarter of an inch or less across most of the bay area. So really not a big storm system headed our way at least the one headed our way for this evening. We do have a winter storm warning i should say across the sierra. In fact, look at how much snow were expecting just tonight alone. Were talking 30 inches of snow for twin bridges. Even near kirkwood you could see a foot and a half to even 20 inches for south lake tahoe. So, yeah, winter storm warning rightly in place. We have more storms ahead as i mentioned. As we move towards the weekend, friday night into saturday theres our next storm system thats going to move through. Thats going to produce more rain and sierra snow and could have gusty winds as well. The bigger storm system thats going to move in for sunday night into monday morning and could linger into your monday morning commute. On the heels of that we have another one thats going to move in for tuesday and wednesday. This is how much rain we could expect in the next seven days. Youll notice about 2. 5 inches to 4 implnches across most of t bay area. I think this model may be overdoing it a little bit. I think most of us will pick up one to two inches and some could get higher amounts. Again, that comes at higher elevations. Overall three storm systems headed our way in the next five days. Keep the umbrellas handy. If youre out and about pull it up on your phone and its very helpful. Because we all cant be around anthony all the time. Darn it.
