Splintered glass where a bullet shattered a window inches from where three young kids sat last night. The flying debris is what hurt a 2yearold, but thankfully no one was struck by the actual bullet. Pretty miraculous that none of the occupants were hit, especially the three children that were seated in the back seat. So they should count their blessings. Reporter chp investigators say a female teen and a man in his 20s appear to be the intended targets in this fifth shooting on highway 80 in the east bay in just the last couple months. The last one was december 17th. The mans survived getting shot n an suv in san pablo. And in november there were at least three shootings on 80 bp a driver injured by shattered glass in berkeley, a man killed and a woman injured in what chp suspected might have been retaliatory or linked to a shooting on november 2nd when a man survived after getting shot multiple times near the san pablo dan road exit. There are a lot of people. Its the most trafficked freeway that ive ever driven on. So the chances of accidentally being hit by one of those intended shootings is really scary. Were always at the risk of innocent bystanders getting hit. You know, you never want that. You know, with me having a little sister, its always a concern of her safety. Reporter so far the chp opened office in charge of these investigations has not made any arrests but has said it appears each one of them had people specifically targeted. Those who live and work in the area told nbc bay area they wont let fear over these local shootings handicap their lives. Especially when you just hear about it. Investigators say suspicion of foul play is the reason they are reopening a mysterious cold case of a 14yearold boy who disappeared decades ago. 14yearold Daniel Naylor was last seen leaving his home in fremont in 1982. That was after an argument with his father. But a recent review of the case turned up inconsistent statements by some family members and last month led to a search warrant for that house which included digging up the backyard. We talked with a neighbor of the naylors who lived here when the boy vanished. Im very surprised that the family is being investigated. We assume, like everybody else in the community, that young danny ran away. Fremont police are not saying what, if anything, they found during their search of the house and the backyard. They are putting out this ageenhanced picture of what they believe daniel may look like today. Theyre also asking anyone with information about his disappearance to contact the fremont police. A ruling is expected today in the ongoing turf battle between the nfl and a Youth Soccer League in the south bay. The soccer fields next to levis stadium are already being transformed into a media center for the super bowl. The Soccer League wants that work to stop, claiming the city and the nfl are not making good on a promise to find adequate fields to play on for the time being. The nfl argues the field is the best location for the media, and more importantly for a security headquarters. The difficulty and the logistics of shuffling everything around would be difficult, if not impossible, for the nfl to bear. It also would have serious implications on security concerns at the super bowl. But again, this goes against what the children were promised. The Soccer League says its concerned the nfl, by the time they replace that field and new grass grows, could be months after the super bowl before kids can play on it. Well, the south bays Major League Soccer team has stepped in with a generous offer to help ease that conflict. You abandoned someone that would give his life for you, someone who doesnt care how long you stayed at work. He wont be waiting for you anymore. The workers named the dog banjo. As you can see, he is now in good health. Hes in good spirits. And he has a lot of potential owners clamoring to take this faithful, furry friend home. The driver of this car parked just a little bit too close to lake erie overnight. This is in buffalo. The waves splashed up, sprayed the entire side of that car. The result, several inches of ice. All over the car. Youll have to run the defrost for quite some time. That doesnt even look real. No. It looks like its sculpt. You could win a contest. This is what i did. Yeah. Lets check our own weather. Were not looking at anything like that. We usually dont ever see anything like that. Thats why we live in the bay area, right . And were happy about it. Lets talk about this warm weather. Already close to 60 degrees in the south bay. Temperatures warming nicely across the peninsula. East bay back to 54. Still chilly in San Francisco. Still 51 there. And the north bay still chilly there. We do have lots of clouds filling in. And we will eventually see mostly cloudy skies this afternoon. 63 is where were headed for morgan hill later on today. 62 for palo alto. 50s for San Francisco because of those clouds. Thats what were looking at now. 57 for the embarcardero. 57 for ocean beach and napa. Santa rosa, you may get a brief shower this afternoon as that system gets closer to us. Hayward, 56 and more sunshine for the trivalley. Mid60s there where well have more sunshine for our inland valleys. Once we get into the overnight hours, showers and thunderstorms expected from the first system. Then two more behind it. Thursday another system moves in for the evening and then another one behind that. Thats expected to move in for friday into saturday. The shortterm forecast for this first system moving in, though, does show clouds already starting to spill in across the bay area. As we head towards midnight tonight, thats when everyone will see rounds of showers and thunderstorms. And most of this rain is going to come overnight between about midnight and 7 00 in the morning. Then after 7 00, it starts to push out of here. Well see sunshine tomorrow. Even around lunchtime. And then it will be very windy as well. Heres how much rain were expecting from this first batch of shower activity. About half an inch across the south bay, trivalley. Further north into San Francisco, north bay, where we could see about 3 4 of an inch and maybe even more than an inch across parts of the north bay. Now, the winds will be very gusty tonight around 11 00 all the way through 2 00, 3 00 in the morning. After that theyll start to subside, but its going to be very gusty. 20 to 35mileanhour gusts. At the coastline, gusts from 35 to 40 miles an hour. Look at lunchtime tomorrow. Things really do start to subside. Gusts go back down to about 20 to 15 miles an hour. Things improve once we get towards sunrise tomorrow. Overnight dealing with heavy rain and strong winds. A winter storm watch in place for the sierra especially along i80. Very tricky pass especially when youve got snowfall. Keep the chains handy. Expecting two feet of snow for ki kingvale. Tahoe is expecting a little less than a foot of snow. Lets time out the systems. This is the first one that moves through tonight. Tomorrow well see sunshine after that rain pushes through. Thursday we start off dry but were going to end wet. And then some of us may not even catch a break from thursdays rain into fridays rain. A fastmoving systems going to move in behind that storm system. And then rain to start off next week for monday. So yeah, el nino in full effect here across the bay area. This is how much rain were expecting from all three systems this upcoming week. Youll notice the purple shading up to 2 1 2 inches. Extreme south bay near gilroy, morgan hill. Red shading, even for San Francisco, some places could get 2 1 2 inches to 4 inches of rain through the next seven days. Clean out those storm drains because weve got lots of rain coming over the next couple days beginning tonight. Back to you guys. Okay, thanks. All right. Well be right back.
