Out how the man suspected of murder was able to escape from the county jail. This happened around 8 45 yesterday morning. This man was in a holding cell. Somehow he got free. He scaled one of the fences back there. Made it into the parking lot. At the same time San Jose Police chief Larry Esquivel happened to be pulling in and saw the guy sprinting through the parking lot, his handcuffed hands in front of him. He knew it wasnt right and tried to tackle him. Remember this man withes going at full speed. They collided. First tackle was no good. The man got out and made the turn on mission to go towards the guadeloupe. The chief was hot on his heels. The tackle the second time was the charm. The chief took him down and arrested the suspect. Something the escapee should have known about the chief, he was a standout line backer and before joining the force and he worked through the ranks at the force including stints on s. W. A. T. Before making chief. Chief esquivel came out the chase yesterday with a scrape and ruined dress shirt. This is the man he captured. 26 years old. Wanted since 09 for a murder. Youll notice that the injuries to his face are actually from his encounter with Law Enforcement south much the border not from chief esquivels takedown yesterday morning. He basically let his instincts take over. He did what he had to do. He knew he couldnt let the guy get away. He gave him a commands and the guy doesnt follow his commands to he tackles him. Not knowing what the suspect was wanted for. Its irrelevant at this point. We know there was a guy in handcuffs. We cant prevent the guy from leaving regardless of the offense. Reporter investigators will be auditing the security measures at the jail looking into how the suspect was able to get his cuffed arms in front of him and get out of the holding cell. That holding cell has one door, which leads out to a courtyard. And then the fence he scaled to get into the parking lot. Another officer at the jail gave chase but, as you heard, the chief beat him to the punch. Reporting live in san jose brb, nbc bay area news. Thanks bob.
