A huge fire at their neighbors mobile home has claimed two lives. Investigators do believe its likely the elderly couple who has lived here for years, that couldnt make it out in time. Cell phone video show just how intense this fire was. Michael coult believe the flames he was shooting. It was engulfed. It was bad. I dont understand how it was demolished so quick. The first thing i said, i hope nobodys in there. Reporter but there was. Neighbors told firefighters right away that an elderly couple lived in that corner unit and that their car was still parked outside as the fire grew to two alarms. Firefighters after they knocked down the fire were able to locate two deceased victims inside the residence. We do not have identities on those persons at this time. But we suspect it could potentially be the parents. Reporter they say an adult son did make it out, but there were communication barriers for investigators trying to gather information. Neighbors at the koip cod village, a senior community, were stunned. Francesco oaks evacuated only to return to the grim news. We have been up all night. It was, its so sad. I cant imagine, you know, i just cant reporter she said the woman who lived in the home used a cane lately and seemed to have a hard time getting around. Just looking at the burned out shell was hard for neighbors to take. I dont know what to say. I just cant believe that they might still be in there. Just to know, oh, jesus. Reporter and we are back here live and i wanted to show you within the last couple of minutes, investigators went up on a ladder truck. Theres a firefighter up there. He has a camera pointed down into the burned out mobile home. Of course, theyre still gathering clues this morning. Still looking for a cause. But they tell me at this point, theres nothing to suggest that its suspicious at all. The red cross is helping that adult son. I asked investigators how long they might be out here today, because theres an arson task force, a number of crews, and they said that they will most likely be out here all day. Reporting live in sunnyvale, christie smith, nbc bay area news. Sad story. All right, christie, thank you. Well, just into our newsroom, a strong earthquake on the Pacific Coast of mexico shook the capitol about an hour ago. The 6. 4 magnitude quake hit nearly 200 miles southwest of mexico city. It sent frightened Office Workers into the streets and away from highrise buildings. However, we are told there are no immediate reports of injuries or damage. In just a few hours, air force one will land on the peninsula for a very quick but busy bay area trip. After landing at Moffett Field in Mountain View just before 4 00, the president will attend an intimate roundtable meeting with the ceo of 23 and me. That will include about 30 supporters who are attending that event. Later on, the president will take part in a dnc fundraiser. That taking place at the fairmont in san jose. Then tomorrow morning, president obama will talk about Energy Efficiency at the walmart in Mountain View. Then air force one will depart from Moffett Field, just after 11 00 a. M. Right now, lets take you to los angeles, though, as we see air force one sitting at l. A. X. , a very busy scene there, as you can see, very active. Some press people standing right in front of our camera, thank you very much for that. The president is set to take off for san diego in just a couple of months. A quick stop there for a political fundraiser. However, last night, the president did rub elbows with some of hollywoods elite. He received an ambassador of humanity award from filmmaker Steven Spielberg at a gala at usc. Among those in attendance, samuel l. Jackson, liam neeson, and Bruce Springsteen who entertained the crowd. Traffic, though, it was so bad during the president s visit in l. A. That drivers started a hashtag on twitter called obama jam. Lets bring in mike inouye. Can we expect our own obama jam here . I guess if youre stuck in traffic, you have a lot of time to tweet. Hopefully the copilot will be doing some tweeting. We want no drama obama. Hopefully that will be the hashtag or something similar. If you look at highway 101 here, its possible hes going to take a helicopter from this airfield to los altos, his destination, first one, but if he travels by car, heres a look at how his commute could be impacted. Moffett field, air force one touches down just before 4 00 at 3 50 this afternoon. Then the president heads to los altos for a roundtable meeting. Highway 101 is right there by the airfield. We have 85 and 237 in the area. So he starts at Moffett Field to start his trip, and you know, highway 85 and 237 complete that triangle. Hell have to take surface streets over to the los altos residents in any case. Later, the president will leave los altos and head to a reception at the fairmont in downtown l. A. We assume 280 will be the most convenient route, probably the one hell take, but all along the way, some time between 5 00 and 6 30 tonight, thats the commute direction down towards san jose, that will also impact highway 85, because folks heading out of cupertino and Mountain View and sunnyvale all head past 280. So if he takes 280, expect some slowing in the south bay. They never let us know exactly which way he will go. I like the hashtag, no drama obama. We will have continuing coverage of the president s visit all day long. Well also stream his arrival live on nbcbayarea. Com. There is a heavy Police Presence at all schools in danville this morning, in response to a couple of threatening messages. The latest message found right on campus. The message was found in the boys bathroom at baldwin elementary and referenced hurting people on may 8th, and thats today. The principle sent out an email to parents saying, even though the staff does not think this threat is credible, they did contact the Danville Police department and increase supervision. Several parents we spoke to said they were so concerned, they did keep their kids from going to school today as a precaution. The graffiti at baldwin elementary is similar to some found near charlottewood middle school. That was last week, and that prompted officials to cancel some school activities. Happening right now, a statewide manhunt is underway for a cal fire battalion chief suspected of stabbing his fiancee to death. Investigators say 55yearold Orville Fleming killed 26yearold Sarah Douglas in sacramento last week after lacking for him in the area, authorities expanded their search statewide, saying that phlegming is an avid outdoorsman who has keys to fire gates, trails, and fire facilities. A spokesperson for cal fire says those keys give him access to hundreds of miles of back roads and other state supplies and other facilities throughout the state of california. Officials say fleming has spent a lot of time in the santa cruz mountains. Hes believed to have two guns with him and considered to be dangerous. The san jose woman accused of stabbing her baby boy to death may enter a plea in court today. 23yearold Ashley Newton has been in jail since she was arrested on april 26th. Investigators say she drove her 7monthold boy to a park in livermore, deliberately wrecked her car, and then stabbed the child. The sequence of events still unclear, but while officials were investigating the car crash, they say newton came out of the Woods Holding the body of her baby. Investigators say she also had stab wounds there, believed to be selfinflected. Well, investigators will be examining the wood chirp used after a tree trimming job in oakland. Some workers say that the birds could have been killed, endangering baby birds. The black crown night herons were nesting in trees on alice street between 13th and 14th. The post office hired a crew to trim the trees because the workers there were getting pretty tired of bird droppings on their trucks. A neighbor took cell phone video of the crew at work on saturday. At the bottom of the tree, if you look closely here, you can see a small little bird there flapping its wings while crews cut the trees. People rescued five night heron chicks from the parking lot. They had injuries consistent with falling out of a nest. Some people are concerned that they were killed during the tree trimming, but they insist thats not true. They took the nest and put it in another part of the tree away from harms way and continued trimming those trees. They really made a big mistake and a lot of us in this city are really furious about it. Now, handling the endangered species may be a violation of the Migratory Bird treaty act. Theyre now investigating the incident. Were taking you to live pictures in los angeles of president obama as hes about to mount the stairs, as he does, to Board Air Force one. His next stop, that airplane, air force one headed to the bay area. We do expect significant traffic troubles this afternoon, as the president goes from los altos to a reception in san jose at the fairmont hotel. Again, air force one in los angeles with its passenger aboard. We will keep track and update you as we need to. Still to come, 80s singer morrissey gets lots of love at a san jose concert, maybe too much love. A move by a fan that had the band abruptly ending the show. I love you, man plus, an exclusive look inside the new home of the 49ers, the places that the public has not seen until now. And we actually have triple digit heat in the forecast. Next seven days, as a matter of fact. But before we actually hit those highs, we are talking about a storm system moving into the bay area, as we speak. The last cool day before those temperatures soar. Take a look at your cloud sky. In san francisco, same cloudy sky in san jose. Were tracking showers and bigtime heat when nbc bay area news at 11 00 is back in moments. Well, 80s singer morrissey, performed for adoring fans in the south bay last night. Maybe a little too adoring. Take a look at the video sent to us by a viewer who was at the concert at the National Civic auditorium in san jose. You see some supporters hop up on stage, give the singer a hug, they be one or two fans start to get a little too overzealous and their hugs end up actually there we go, taking morrissey to the ground. So just two songs into the encore, the band stops playing and just simply ends the show. Probably a good idea. According to his website, morrissey scheduled to sing tonight in southern california. Boy, that has got to be pretty scary. Very scary. Now, today is not just any thursday, as you well know. It is draft day. In less than six hours, nfl draft gets underway in new york city. Everyone looking at these draft picks, and barring any trades, heres how things are expected to shake out. The raiders have a lot riding on this years draft. They have seven picks overall including number the five overall pick. What teams do before that will matter, but experts suspect the raiders will take one of three players with that number five pick. Wide receiver sammy watkins, linebacker khalil mack, or offensive tackle, taylor lewis. Meanwhile the 49ers have 11 picks, but not expected to make too much noise today. In fact, theyre first pick is number 30. Whoever they choose with that pick will get a chance to play at the nfls newest stadium. Nbc bay areas bob redell has an exclusive look at the new home of the 49ers. Reporter you know, when the 49ers set out to build one of the greenest stadiums in the nfl, they werent kidding. Here we are, atop of the brandnew levi stadium here in santa clara and you are looking at whats got to be close to an acre, a halfacre of garden space. Indigenous plants, plants that are local to our area, that span from one end zone down to the other. And now if you look to the left, youll see that wooden bench area. Thats going to be an entertainment area, so people who have club suites, select members of those club seat seating areas would be able to come up here and be entertained or entertain guests during the football games. And above that venue over there, youll see this white structure. There are 1,150 solar panels installed on there. We understand theyll produce enough electricity to power each home game that the 49ers play here for an entire season. As we walk past some of the workers here, this is still an active construction site. The stadium, of course, is not open yet. These guys, i believe, are getting ready to go over the ledge, pretty gutsy move, but theyve got good harnesses there, to do some caulking on the windows. But i want you to take you over to this window right here, because this is quite the view, if youre lucky enough to come up here during the game. This is the view you would be able to see. You can see the brandnew turf, its about three weeks old. Looks like its taking nicely. You dont see the new install marks anymore. Looks like its a level, one big piece of grass. Definitely greener than it was when we were out here a few weeks ago. And we know that the head groundskeeper has been doing quite a job of keeping this watered. They had the sprinklers on very early this morning. You can see most of the seats, all 68,500 of them, most of them have been installed. The seats are a nice hard plastic, they come with cupholders and of course a hook for whoever is bringing their purse or their bag, something to hook on the backside. Let me walk you down here. As were heading towards norman mineta, theres the airport and you can see these airplanes coming over every now and then, i want to show you what is considered to be one of the Largest Video screens in the nfl. They have one on each end zone here of levi stadium. They measure 48 feet tall, 200 feet wide. Just dying to see one of these things powered up, because they are ginormous. Its clear that the 49ers are certainly trying to enhance the fan experience, if you compare it to what they had at candlestick, compared to what theyll have here at levi stadium. First game, its not going to be a football game, its going to be the san jose earthquake soccer team. Thats going to be august 2nd, and also starting in august, you can come here for private tours, 49ers will be charging 25ucks a pop, so if you cant afford a regular ticket to a ball game, heres your opportunity to see this brandnew venue thats towering high above santa clara. Here in santa clara, bob redell, nbc bay area news. Boy, what a view there, bob. Very cool. Well, its probably one of the best nba mvp acceptance speech ever when oklahoma thunders kevin durant paid tribute to his mother in a video that has almost everyone tearing up when they see it. Its taking youtube by storm and this morning the today show gave Kevin Durants mother the real mvp, the chance to respond to the overwhelming video. You made us believe, you kept us off the street, you put clothes on our back, food on the table. When you didnt eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us. You the real mvp. Youre the real mvp. Right, tears, again, and ive seen it like ten times. The entire crowd at the mvp ceremony then stood up and gave durants mom, wandra pratt, a standing ovation. She deserved that. Natalie morales asked her what it was about her parenting that earned her such a fitting tribute and what other moms can learn from her. My advice is to never give up. To always put your children. To always commit yourself to their dreams, their aspirations, and their goals. Even when it gets hard. When you have those lonely nights, when youre crying to yourself, just remember that its for them. And they will get that. They will receive that. And ive realized that thats what children really want. They want to know that their parents are 100 behind them and theyll give you everything that you expect. 100 behind them. And by the way, last night, kevin durant went on to show why hes mvp, leading the points there to beat the clippers, 112101. Isnt that amazing. And she does, she sits and watches it on youtube. I do, and i cry. I thought it was amazing and an incredible tribute. Especially right before mothers day. Lets check in with christina this morning for a mothers day forecast. Yeah, and you know what, peggy, youre our mvp. Thats right. Most valuable peggy. Overcast right now in san francisco. Those clouds are thickening up here in san jose. All courtesy of a storm system that is going to bring in some shower activity before we hit triple digit heat getting into the next seven days. So enjoy these cooler temperatures while they last. Our cool days are numbered at this point. We are going to be in the upper 60s for today. Actually had to take the temperatures down a touch, which i dont often like to do, but i like to et get right, so i can tell you right now, were not expecting the 70s anywhere at this point, because those clouds are increasing so quickly. Now, the showers are going to hold off for a little while. You can see that storm system right now just starting to push into the bay area. Lets take it right to your futurecast, show you what youre expecting. We stopped that clock at 5 00 p. M. Showers starting to spread into the south in the Golden Gate Bridge at this point. But theyre going to be light, nothing heavy whatsoever. A little bit of wind coupled with the rain. A lot of it falls apart before even making it into the south bay. So everythings going to clear out of here, as you head throughout your friday, goodlooking day shaping up for tomorrow, and then those changes coming. Look at this, temperatures shooting straight up as we head through sunday, mothers day, 87 degrees in the south bay. Its going to be nice and comfortable if you want to hit the beach, take mom to the city, 77 there. And hey, guys, i hate to do this to you, but look at where our temperatures are headed next week. Up to 95 degrees by tuesday. Were going to keep climbing on wednesday and thursday. And last time we did hit triple digits in gilroy. This time, we could see 105. So stick with us. Well keep you updated. Right now, back to you, scott, and our mvp. Its not a temperature, its a radio station. Thank you. Still to come, in case of an emergency, maybe text 911. The new program that is aimed at giving people another way to get help when they need it. Well, this morning, a bill designed to protect your smartphone from thieves passed in the state senate. The kill switch bill had failed to pass in sacramento a couple of weeks ago following strong opposition from the cell phone industry. But state senat mark leno pushed for the day, got it to the senate. It will have to go to the house. One thing in his favor, apple, which lad oppohad opposed the k switch bill, now doesnt take a side in the issue. Apple iphoness running ios 7 do have a skill switch in there anyway. But the bill now headed the to the state assembly. Well, calling for help without saying a word. You will soon be able to text 911 in an emergency situation. Starting next week, californias Emergency Dispatch Centers can apply to provide text to 911 service through the countrys four leading wireless carriers. Its a program thats designed for those with hearing and speech problems, but really could provide anybody with another way of getting emergency help. Lets say if someone was following me or something down the street, i might not want to i might not be as inclined to call the police or dial 911 if i dont want that person behind me to know that im calling the police. Soy might be more inclined to use the text message type system. Id probably get to them like faster by texting rather than calling. I get tongue tied talking on the phone. It can still be years before texting 911 is widespread throughout the state, because Emergency Centers dont just have the necessary hardware to support it. Still to come, were going to need a bigger boat. Some amazing video of a shark on the attack. Well, what do you do when a great white decides to chomp on your inflatable boat . I think we start with not going out in an inflatable boat. Take a look at this. Presumably you get as close as possible and start taking pictures. The shark not too happy as the people at max animal were able to get this great video. The crew was coasting someone off the coast of south africa when the shark started to punch through the edges of their inflatable boat. The crew insists the attack was unprovoked and everyone including the shot made it out okay. But it does make you think of the jaws line, were going to need a bigger bank. I have this sinking feeling. Thanks for joining us. Our next newscast is at 5 00. Look out for that traffic with the president s arrival later on today.
