A fire engine just went into this area, but sweeney hall has just been cleared, and the there, approximately 300, are now able to leave their classrooms. While all of this was going on earlier this morning, we received several texts that told us that the students barricaded themselves inside their individual classrooms. They were told by an alert system to stay in the classrooms, and officers took a very long time searching the building they say partially because they had difficulty entering each classroom because the students were even afraid to let the Police Inside the classroom. Eventually they were able to search every single room of sweeney hall, and, again, just a few minutes ago they declared that this area has been cleared, but they are still actively asking students to give any description that they can. Now, the students that you see coming out here, many of them were the ones that have been barricaded inside their classrooms for several hours this morning. Once again, this is ending peacefully right now. No one was hurt, and, again, sweeney hall has been cleared, and the campus is considered safe once again. Meantime, in other news, in about 13 hours from right now, bart workers could once again walk right off the job leading no doubt to a traffic nightmare all over the bay area. Negotiators from both bart and its unions expected to be back at the bargaining table in about an hour from now. Union representatives say bart management did offer a deal earlier this week, but then withdrew it just yesterday. Bart says there was a misunderstanding, and it has not retracted its offer. Barts board of directors also met this morning to get an update on the ongoing negotiations. We do have more details on that bart labor talk right now. You may remember back in july bart workers walked off the job for almost five days leading to those jammed bridges and really some very crowded buses throughout the bay area. Bart and its union then agreed to extepid the current contract for 30 days until august to try and work out a new agreement. When that could not be done, governor jerry brown, he stepped in mandating the 60day cooling off period which officially ends tonight at midnight. The usda right now threatening to shut down three separate foster farms plants involved in a recent salmonella break unless that company can somehow explain how it plans to fix the unsanitary conditions that actually led up to this outbreak. One of those plants is located just outside of tracy. The other two, they are in fresno. The salmonella outbreak has sickened hundreds of people all across the country, including some people right here in california. The company has not recalled any of its products so far. Instead, its merely warning customers to make sure chicken is cooked to at least 165 degrees. Caution and commonsense on that one. Three months after a Young Oakland girl disappeared, a special prayer vigil being held today, which would be her second birthday. The family of daphne web not giving up hope at this point. She will be found alive. Theyll be holding that special kablgdz light vigil at the intersection of 79th avenue and international boulevard where baby daphne was first reported missing back on july 10th. For the record, this afternoons vigil starts at 4 00. Well, we have an update this morning on the body that was found in a stairwell at San Francisco General Hospital overnight. The family spokesperson tells us the San Francisco medical examiner now confirming it is, in fact, the body of missing patient lynn spalding. However, there is no cause of death at this time. They are still performing more tests to try and figure that out. A hospital worker found spaldings body more than two weeks after she disappeared from her hospital room. Family members, they say spalding may have been confused because of the medication she was taking at the time. Well, an east bay family now speaking out in honor of a relative gunned down out on the streets of oakland. Was shot and killed Early Saturday Morning near Oakland City Hall coming home from the citys first friday festivities. The family has concern that people, well, theyll just hear about the time and the place and then assume that the student was up to no good. I want to she didnt argue with anybody. She didnt start a fight. She was going home. She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and thats what hurts the most is that she was walking a family friend to a bus stop. An unfortunate situation all the way around. Now, corrine will be buried next week at st. John Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in emeriville. Two others were hurt in that shooting. They remain hospitalized this morning. So far police have not made any arrests. The city of san carlos getting ready to spend a quarter safety of an b potentially dangerous pipeline. City manager jeff maltby says he wants to spend that money to hire a team of experts to investigate whether a pg e pipeline running right through the city is, in fact, dangerous. He plans to ask1 l the Council Approval at a meeting on monday. Just two days ago the cpuc ordered pg e to keep the natural gas pipeline shut down after internal emails revealed concerns about corrosion and about cracks. A decision over abortion now stirring up a lot of controversy on the campus of Santa Clara University this morning. This morning mercury news reporting the universitys president decided to drop Health Insurance coverage forn electiv abortion for the universitys faculty and staff. Governor jerry brown went in a completely different direction, signing two different bills for the state aimed at increasing access to abortion. Well, 49ers linebacker alvin smith could go straight to jail from rehab. Santa clara county prosecutors charging smith for illegally possessing three assault weapons he purchased down in arizona. Theyve also charged him with misdemeanor dui following a september crash that prompted him to enter rehab and then take a leave of absence from the 49ers. The 24yearold now expected to surrender this month to face those charges. He could end up spending up to four months in prison if he is convicted. The gun charges were filed against smith after an investigation into a 2012 party at his home in the East San Jose foot hills, and at that party smith was stabbed, two other people were shot, and when asked 49ers head coach jim harbough, he would not go into any detail about whether or not the all pro player will actually end up playing again this season. New details this morning to tell you about on the death of ariel castro. A newly released report States Castro may not have died from suicide, but from auto erotic asphyxiation. The report also says two Prison Guards falsified logs and they failed to perform at least eight required checks on castro in the hours leading up to his death back on september 3rd. Castro was serving a life sentence after pleading guilty to holding three women hostage inside his home for nearly a decade. Well, its been nearly two months since california teenager Hannah Anderson was kidnapped and held hostage for a week. Now shes finally back at school and she is leaning on her friends and family for support. In an exclusive interview on the today show this morning, anderson described what happened during her time with james lee demauj wroe. When i got into the house, he handcuffed me and zip tied my feet. He told me that he was going to kidnap me and take me to idaho where my intention was just to carry his backpacks to the river, and that he was going to live there, and then he would get me home afterwards. Anderson goz to say dimaggio did tell her her mother and 8yearold brother were still alive, and it wasnt until she was saved she learned the 40yearold killed christina Ethan Anderson in his home and then he set it on fire. Fbi agents ended up shooting and killing dimaggio in the idaho wilderness back on october 10th, one week after he abducted 16yearold anderson. Later on today libyas Prime Minister expected to talk publicly about his kidnapping that happened just hours after he was freed by his captors. Gunmen abducted the Prime Minister. He was released several hours later. Now, heres the deal. A rebel group who claimed responsibility for that abduction, they say it was for corruption and bribery charges. Others, theyre speculating it may have been in retaliation for u. S. Forces capturing a libyan al qaeda suspect just last weekend. Many libyan rebels as well as some government officials were upset by this raid saying the u. S. Violated libyan sovereignty. Like picking between paying Veterans Benefits or Social Security checks, medicare, or Food Assistance if lawmakers dont raise the debt limit. Trying to time a debt limit increase to the last minute could be very dangerous. If congress does not act and the United States suddenly cannot pay its bills, the reprecussions would be serious. Business leaders are also increasing the pressure on lawmakers, warning of economic consequences if the government defaults. That has potential to throw the recovery into reverse. Republican leaders spent the morning discussing the possibility of passing a shortterm measure to estend the debt limit. This afternoon theyll head to the white house in the hopes of ending the current showdown, but so far theyre continuing to drive a hard bargain. 17 trillion worth of debt and there are real problems with the Affordable Care act. House Speaker John Boehner laid out his hopes for the meeting. We want to offer the president today the ability to move a temporary increase in the debt ceiling in agreement to go to conference on the budget.
