bubba review in san francisco where she had been performing burlesque. this morning we spoke with her producer and best friend, producer of the show, who is grief stricken she is gone. he tells us sarah, who went by the stage name sparkly devil was nationally and internationally known and a core member of the hub, a bubba review. she was also involved in raising money for the museum in las vegas where incidentally she was supposed to be performing. her friend went on to say she was a loved and respected member of our entire community. we feel her loss greatly. she was killed when the car her husband was driving crashed through the center divider in 101 noor burlingame, the broadway exit. it was then hit by an oncoming party bus. chp said she was not wearing her seat belt. >> at this point we believe the driver and passenger had been drinking the previous evening. we have not arrested or planned any charges. once we find out what the level of intoxication was, then we'll be able to charge them with either felony dui and also possibly vehicular manslaughter. >> reporter: there were 18 people on that party bus that collided with their car. ten of them are hurt but none of them seriously. reporting live at stanford medical center, bob redell, nbc bay area news. in the south bay san jose fire crews used the jaws of life to pull two people out of their car after a high-speed crash into a tree. nbc bay area was the first on the scene at the intersection of allen rock avenue and north white road. that's really close to james lick high school. investigators say both victims were trapped in the car. two dozen firefighters were called to help pull them out. >> what makes this a little more complicated was the fact the tree actually landed -- not only did it hit the vehicle or the vehicle hit the tree, the tree landed on top of the vehicle. both victims suffered major injuries but they are expected to survive. investigators have not revealed the cause of that crash. now to a live look in san jose. overcast conditions of the storm system is making its way into the south bay. but the big question, will it rain on your memorial day parade. meteorologist christina loren joins us with a look at showers heading our way. good morning. >> hey, good morning to you, marla and laura. good morning to you at home. taking a live look, overcast in the san rafael area. it's north bay that has seen the bulk of the moisture so far just now starting to press into marin county. take you to the radar, show you what we're working with on memorial day. not a lot of want to point out winds are playing a factor out there, not only making it feel cooler. it's one of those days you're going to have a picnic or barbecue you want something to keep down that tablecloth because it is going to be nice and blustery. temps are mild in the south bay where we have not yet seen that cool air, that wind provided by the that area of low pressure. here is what we're memorial park on curt ner avenue. each year local boy and girl scouts place flags on the headstones of the veterans of all wars on burial plots. military, organization colors, placing of wreath, a rifle salute and the playing of taps. santa clara valley transportation agency also honoring veterans today. the vta will take part in national moment of remembrance. this afternoon at 3:00, buses and light rail will stop service for one minute in that moment of silence. across the nation, americans are remembering those who died while fighting for the country. that includes the president. ♪ >> this was the scene at arlington national cemetery. president obama laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns. the first lady was also there paying her respects. the president and first lady hosted a breakfast at the white house earlier this morning with gold star families of service members who have been killed. in a speech president obama said americans must honor the sacrifices of their fighting men and women, particularly at a time when the u.s. combat role in iraq has ended and the country's involvement in afghanistan is now winding down. a developing story in the south bay this morning, san jose police investigating two separate shootings killing three people. the gunman still on the loose. just after 10:00 last night, a man was shot at the intersection of hayes avenue and walnut blossom drive in south san jose. investigators say the man was shot at least twice. he was pronounced dead at the scene. police have not release add motive for the shooting. the death marks the 19th homicide of the year. two hours earlier, two people killed in east san jose. it happened at rinehart drive near kohl's department store. a woman said her son was friends with one of the victims who she identified as a 15-year-old boy. >> nice boy. nice, sweet, minds his own business. he hangs out with my son every day. they go places and they talk to girls all the time on the phone. >> i believe there are witnesses. whether they come forward or not, i don't know. hopefully somebody saw it and can identify the person. >> police say the other boy killed was 17 years old. they have not released their identities. >> antioch police say they have new clues in the drowning of a 13-year-old boy. they believe the boy's shoe ended up in the canal near hillcrest and wild horse drive in antioch. when he went to get it, he slipped into the water. his 10-year-old cousin tried to rescue the boy but realized the water was too powerful and ran to get help. crews pulled the body from the water two hours later. the canal is about 10 feet deep with the boy fell in and the current can run as much as 12 miles an hour. now to breaking news that we're following in colma. this is where a crash has killed three people. we're giving you a live look at the scene. plenty of police on the scene right now. this happened about 7:45 this morning right at the intersection of hillside boulevard and lawndale boulevard. we're hearing two cars collided killing two women and one man. you can see that smashed green vehicle there. officers have shut down the intersection, keeping our camera away from the scene directly. we'll bring you more information on this deadly crash as it comes into our newsroom. again, three people killed in a car crash in colma. police have part of hillside boulevard shut down as they investigate. people are back home today after a bomb scare caused the evacuation of a peninsula neighborhood of the bomb squad was called to an apartment complex next to san antonio center in mountain view last night. investigators say someone found a pressure cooker underneath a bush outside the lobby doors. the shopping center, apartment complex and surrounding area were all evacuated about three hours until the bomb squad reported the pressure cooker was empty. >> what comes to mind immediately was probably the bulldogs marathon, the tragedy that happened back east. we would like to avoid that here. pressure cookers obviously could be used as bombs. we didn't want to take any chances as far as anyone getting hurt. >> lis say the incident should serve as a reminder people should be more vigilant what they leave around. as the officer alluded to, for some the discovery of the pressure cooker brought back memories of the bombings in boston. as you may recall the suspects in the april 15th bombings carried wo pressure cooker bombs inside those backpacks. they were set off during the boston marathon killing three people and injuring more than 260 others. firefighters are still trying to figure out what caused two vacant apartment units to go up in flames. fire started 3:00 a.m. but apartments in mill valley. 100 people had to be evacuated from surrounding buildings. firefighters were able to contain the flames within 40 minutes. two apartment units were destroyed. firefighters tell us they were being renovated at the time and no one was living there. pg&e said dirty power lines were to blame for several fires that triggered a massive fire outage. nearly a dozen poles caught fire in san francisco and south san francisco yesterday morning. about 5,000 homes lost power as a result. a pg&e spokeswoman says the fire started when fog and drizzle mixed, when dust and pollution on the lines making a mud-like substance. >> the mud conducts electricity or mud-like substance can conduct electricity. when that happens, in some occasions that can lead to what we are seeing today, which is, in some cases, pole fires. >> usually there's enough rain in the springtime to just wash those lines clean but this spring has been pretty dry. pg&e says it works year-round to keep those lines king. >> japan's al nippon airline resumed it's dreamliner flights. flights to san jose airport are supposed to start as well. the commercial flight in japan followed 170 test flights which were required after battery fires on board. san jose's national airport launched dreamliner service back in january. because of those battery problems they grounded flights just six days later. assuming there are no additional issues, ana plans to resume dreamliner service between san jose and japan on saturday. an east bay city is considering a radical plan to combat the foreclosure crisis. richmond city leaders want to use eminent domain to keep families in their homes. emthen domain is usually associated with government taking private property from people. under this plan, richmond would seize underwater mortgages and work to refinance them under terms the home owner could afford. the plan is expected to have challenges that it violates basic rights. they will change how they are evaluated and promoted in the future. san jose mercury news says the three-year contract between the san jose unified school district and its teachers union will link pay increases to teaching skills rather than college credits. those who failed to meet the criteria would be denied a raise and even fired of the new contract is effective july 1st. controversial ordination. despite what the catholic church says, why a san francisco woman is claiming she's a priest. plus after going to drastic measures to reduce her risk of breast cancer, angelina jolie is mourning the loss of another family member. what her family is saying about the jolie does but didn't know it until after her 2004 cancer diagnosis. >> since angelina came out with the news about her double mastectomy, debbie and i reflected had we known before she got breast cancer, if we had the same information from the b rca test, which we didn't have, we would have done exactly the same thing. it would have saved her life. >> so far jolie has not commented publicly about her aunt's death. a woman in san francisco will tell you she became a catholic priest this past weekend. the catholic church will tell you she did not. maria is one of the small but growing number of women who claim to have been ordained as a catholic priest. there are about 120 women worldwide. the ceremony was held at a lutheran church in san francisco. >> because this is the roman catholic ordination, we had to find a place that would welcome us. and this lutheran church did. with an open heart. >> she says she's not concerned about being ex communicated from the church before the ceremony, she said it was right for her and the girls that come after her in the catholic church. the vatican said women who presume to be priests are committing a, quote, grave sin. the winner of the boston marathon says he will return his medal to the city. he met with secretary of state john kerry who was visiting ethiopia. he told kerry he wanted to honor the victims of the marathon bombing by donating his first place medal to the city of boston. kerry is in ethiopia to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the african union. dozens of runners who didn't get a chance to cross the finish line in boston crossed the finish line in indianapolis instead. as a symbolic gestures minneapolis speedway officials invited nonfinishers from indiana and other states to cross the iconic finish line. about three dozen runners showed up and ran around the track as people in the stand cheered them on. strong athletes showed it was possible to escape from alcatraz. 300 brave participants swam one and a half miles to the san francisco shore, then they ran seven miles across the city. the event was sanctioned by usa triathlon. those guys look so young and fit. >> i have a girlfriend that did that else going on that a lot of people will be attending. bay bridge series starts today. oakland coliseum, taking it live. you can see these flags. not getting a lot of pickup but those winds will pick trying to be aggressive. we do that, we feel like we take control of the games. it was a good time for us. >> we saw what we had to do to have success. you have to stick to the same things. not worried about being on the road. whoever is most prepared will win. >> neither team lost at home in the series but sharks are hoping to break that trend. sunday was also a good day on the baseball diamond for bay area teams. the giants closed out their series with the colorado rockies winning 7-3. pitcher matt cain a slow start giving up two runs in the first inning. the team settled into a groove. 10 hits against the rockies. oakland a's meantime managed to sweep the astros for the third time this season. the big story, the pitcher threw seven shutout innings two days after turning 40.
