Away from the scene but the fourth stayed inside holding four people hostages. Tactical units tried to make contact. By 8 30, they were able to get those hostages out. Then 90 minutes later the arrest. You seen the tactical officers clear the building, so theyre confident that there are no more suspects inside the building. At this point the investigators will methodically search the building for any type of weapons or evidence that might be related. Reporter those four hostages were led out, walked away and unharmed. Right now at the Bayview Police station giving a statement to Police Exactly about what went on when they were inside the building. Again, this is considered a grow house, a marijuana grow house. Not a dispensary. A medical marijuana dispensary, as they called it earlier. Police tell me theyre trying to figure out if it was legal or not. Theyre going through the papers. One more thing before we go. Across the street in that yellow building that is actually a homeless shelter right across the street from where all this activity is going on. We spoke with the manager there. He told me that overnight they had to keep all the clients basically in lockdown as they stood by and watched all this go on. Theyre grateful that it ended peacefully. Reporting live in San Francisco, Christie Smith today in the bay. New details surrounding the bays sixth officerinvolved shooting in days. It happened at the end of george court at the Public Housing area. Officers apparently spotted the car involved in an armed carjacking. They cornered the car in a culdesac, but when officers tried to approach, the driver allegedly drove at them. One officer was hit along with a police cruiser. Officers opened fire and the driver crashed into a building. He was shot, but is expected to be okay. The officer hit by the car was treated and released. No other officer were injured. Investigators say the suspect may have been involved in a series of robberies in that city. The city of santa cruz is preparing to say goodbye to two Police Detectives killed in the line of duty. They are being honored today by the community they served and also in a Public Memorial Service tomorrow in san jose. A public viewing of the closed caskets of Sergeant Loran butch baker and as you can tell from the number of people weve seen, the Santa Cruz Police department and judging by the number of flowers, you can see theyre very much loved by this community. Santa cruz prepares for a gut wrenching goodbye to two people who protected and defended this town. Later today the caskets of Sergeant Loran butch baker and officer Elizabeth Butler will go on display for a public viewing at santa cruz memorial between 3 00 and 8 00 tonight. Then their remains will be transported to the hp pavilion for tomorrows noon service. More than 200 Law Enforcement vehicles will join in the 33mile funeral procession starting at 8 45 in the morning at the boardwalk parking lot. From there it will wind through santa cruz, go over highway 17, 285, 287 and final toll the hp pavilion. The procession will take up both lanes of highway 17 at 30 to 40 miles per hour. Youll be able to follow but not pass. Drivers should also expect rolling road closures. Nbc bay area will provide live coverage of the Memorial Service on air and online starting at noon. Two venues in santa cruz will be showing the service live on big screens. Doors open at Kaiser Permanente arena on front street tomorrow morning, the del mar theatre will also host a viewing. Weve learned that some of the plants that have been deposited here at this temporary memorial will find a permanent location. The plan is to plant them at a memorial guard on the honor officer butler and sergeant baker. The Police Department tells us theyve received 45,000 in donations from the public for the officers families, and theyve also received pledges of 125,000 from local businesses. A patient at a hospital under evaluation this morning for a very dangerous incident overnight that forced that hospital to evacuate. Police say the patient set a fire inside a room at about 10 45 last night. San mateo police were called in and quickly cordoned off that area. Medical staff had to evacuate patients just as a precaution and a lockdown went into effect. That lockdown was eventually lifted. Now, police say the good news is nobody was hurt and the damage was contained inside that single room. In San Francisco, a man accused of killing a teenaged girl during a dui hit and run making his First Court Appearance today. Police say kieran bruce brewer hit 17yearold hanran chang as she closed the boulevard saturday night. Theres a small memorial right now at that crosswalk where she was killed. We can tell you there are no stop signs or stoplights in that area. Yesterday San Francisco supervisors approving funding to make safety improvements along that very road way. A followup to breaking news we brought you yesterday. A registered sex offender is back in jail after he reportedly broke into a womans home in san jose early yesterday morning. Police arrested 29yearold ryan kamfolt on suspicion of burglary. They say he is a registered sex offender and also on probation for burglary. Officers found him when he tried to leave the neighborhood off monterey road and the burnal exit off of 101. They say he was using a smartphone with a scanner app that allowed him to listen to police radio. He was also wearing an ankle bracelet. They say they wont speak to the media until they pick a brand new pope. Reporter today the american cardinals canceled their Daily Briefing and announced they will not be doing any more interviews. This decision comes following this mornings meeting of all the worlds cardinals where the issue of Media Contact was to stop. The spokesperson for the u. S. Cardinals says the decision not to talk to the press is a precaution against leaks. The vatican spokesperson points out that as the cardinals move towards the conclave, the time to elect the next pope, there is a tradition of silence. What we can tell you is at this mornings meeting, aside from the issue of the media, 18 cardinals spoke and they talked about everything from how the vatican is run to the characteristics needed in the next pope. We should look at this as a time of discernment and of preparation, which helps the voting process in the chapel.
