Lets again with ian cole who drove to tracy to talk to that man with a remarkable story of rescue. Reporter many of those passengers were headed from the bay area east to as far as stockton. We spoke with one man in tracy who immediately jumped into action to help the injured moments after the crash. As soon as it happened, there were a few jolts. Reporter doug nelson was two cars behind the lead car last night in that train when it derailed. He and several passengers sprung into action even while they thought the train and situation were unstable. Didnt know what was going to happen. So everyone was trying to keep people at ease. Reporter nelson, whos an emergency medical volunteer at his job headed to the first car where the car was turned over. So we were kind of directing people. Step here, dont step here. Reporter from there, he helped them into ambulances and buses. He got home late last night and hasnt slept much since. And now, more than 24 hours after, his mind keeps turning to a prayer he made for protection, just moments for boarding the train. And i was protected, yeah. I believe we had some angelic help last night. All of us, even the people that were injured, too. They could have been much worse. Reporter in tracy, ian cole, nbc bay area news.
