Fire crews are being stretched thin across the state along with the valley fire and butte fire, two more fires broke out in monterrey county. Today, evacuees from middletown, etna springs, james creek and surrounding areas drove back home. Cal fire says in lake county alone, close to 900 homes have been destroyed. So i carried the baby and got the suitcases loaded up. The only reason i took that picture of the baby was i wanted to remember and kind of brag to my wife. Firefighters are struggling with the heat, as well. Its only going to get hotter, unfortunately. They have some rain there a couple of days ago, which was so welcome. Yeah. Cooler temperatures and that rain on wednesday. Things changing course, though, for the weekend. Right now, 76 degrees. Humidity about 28 . And during the day tomorrow, were going to see temperatures rising into the upper 90s and humidity levels dropping down into the teens. That is not good news for the fire, though. The wind speeds should stay down. Some is some good news here. The gusts of wind staying below 20 miles per hour. But its the offshore breezes which will help to dry things out and warm up our temperatures even more. Very interesting here, on the radar this evening, this was the tassajara fire showing up on skaens on the radar. That is the column plume from the smoke registering with the radar beam. When we see this rapid fire growth, sometimes it grows from 300 acres to in this case 1200 acres, shows up on these very dry conditions. These fires, once they get going, i think the winds pick up. We can see that fire danger throughout the weekend. Along with the chance of record breaking heat. More on that and the forecast coming up in a few minutes. No rest for firefighters. Tonight, south of the bay area, crews are on the scene of two different fires. They have burned more than 1,000 acres since they broke out. Chuck. Highway 68, a well traveled moderate salinas highway will likely stay closed throughout the night. Thats after a brush fire sparked near the lorelles grade around 3 30 this afternoon. Investigators say chains dragging behind a car on highway 68 ignited the cinder dry grass along the twolane highway. Quickly the grass fire grew threatening acres. A hundred homes were evacuated. One home cause fire. And a larger, more inaccessible fire is burning near jamesburg. Thats about 23 miles southeast of monterrey. Cal fire says four air tankers, helicopters, a bulldozer and 15 engine crews are trying to douse the tassajara fire. So far, the fires destroyed six structures for people who live along the road say its likely many more have burned been there are reports of evacuations in the area. Tonight, the fire in the caramel valley has groan to 1200 acres and is just 10 contained. So far, their evacuations there are voluntary, not mandatory, which may explain why numbers are hard to come by. Meanwhile, the fire along highway 68 is 60 contained. Now, late in the day, we should begin to see some signs of relief. Its going to be the coastal low clouds making the run late in the day. The cooling not felt on the coast probably until about monday and its going to take another day before that cooling, which is our interior valley. For the morning, 50s to 60s to start as we head through lunchtime, starting through the valley. 80s and 90s around San Francisco. You can see san jose, close to 98 degrees. Youll see those highs in the irp 90s and you see the temperatures here, upper 90s to 102 degrees in liver more. Oakland and San Francisco, weve got those sporting events, giants and raiders games. Stay hydrated as youll see temperatures around game time in the low 90s. As we go through the week, were going to see a chance of showers here off to our south. Notice they dont get us here in the bay area, but as this system clears out of southern california, it will open the door for the return of some stronger oscean breezes. By the time we get to tuesday, the last full day of summer will begin to see some cooling as those interior temperatures drops into the 60s, 70s and 80s. In the meantime, a couple more hot days around san jose. Tuesday and wednesday, we get those those temperatures drop. It will take longer, though, shadows still in the mid to upper 90s for parts in the south bay. Livermore, hot after tomorrows 102 degree temperatures. San francisco, temperatures beginning to cool into the upper 60s as we head towards tuesday and wednesday. Next weekend, first weekend of fall, youll see those temperatures pretty comfortable in the 70s and 80s inland and next sunday night, its the super moon lunar eclipse.
