Im janelle wang in for jessica aguirre. And im raj mathai. Were on a little late tonight because of the giants game here on nbc. Our breaking news in contra costa county. A brushfire that has burned 50 acres so far and is threatening some buildings in the city of clayton. Weve also learned it may have been started by a car. Lets get rights to our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri who has been tracking the conditions and joins us with what we know right now, jeff. Right now this is one of the windiest locations in the bay area at the current moment. Temperature 52 degrees. So obviously it is is not hot out here. Its a sustained wind at 19 Miles Per Hour coming off of the west and at least five acres have been burned. This is right here march creek road. This is on the eastern side of mt. Diablo. As we get you in closer, we know a lot you have that are near here are concerned about the fire, the direction of the winds. Right now it is extremely close to leon way, also Morgan Territory road, oak hill lane a lot of this smoke, and hopefully any embers from this fire would be blowing away from you at this point. But if youre near oak hill lane, leon way or Morgan Territory road, those are the areas you need to be on alert about, because we know how quickly these fires can spread. And you just need to be ready to potentially evacuate if needed. Okay, jeff. Well track this during this newscast and on our website. Our other headline tonight, its one of the most high profile murder cases in recent bay area history. We have obtained the details from the grand jury hearings of antolin garciatorres. He is the man accused of kidnapping and killing sierra lamar. Nbc bay areas robert honda broke the story of the suspects arrest two years ago, and tonight joins us with the new information. Good evening, robert. Reporter good evening. We are at the Santa Clara County main jail where torres has been in custody since that arrest more than two years ago, and todays grand jury transcript indicates he has a tough legal battle ahead. The grand jury hearing led to antolin garciatorres being charged with murder in the march 2012 disappearance of sierra lamar, even though her body was never found. But today the court released a transcript of that hearing and showed often in graphic detail the district attorneys case. Investigators had said there was dna evidence linking the two. The transcript revealed compelling details. Testimony show sierras hair was found on a rope inside the trunk of torres car when it was seized in april that year. There is no innocent explanation for that. They also showed it appeared that sierra lamar was dragged. The transcript also showed testimony that torres dna was detected on sierras clothing, clothes inside her backpack found on a road close to where she disappeared. Dna that indicated more than just casual contact. Not only was there skin cell transfer, but there is dna from garciatorres of a bodily fluid nature. Theyre trying to portray man who is a sexual predator. Reporter other key evidence includes more information about alleged attacks and attempted kidnaps by torres on two separate women at a morgan hill safeway parking lot in 2009, as well as indications torres bought bleach to try to clean away dna evidence. All the evidence of interaction also contradicts statements by torres that he never met sierra lamar. Its pretty tough to hear. On the other hand, im glad some information is going out, because its also frustrating to not know. Reporter its important to note that a grand jury hearing does not include Defense Attorneys or a judge. Torres has pleaded not guilty. Another thing legal analysts say to watch out for if all this evidence being made public will lead to a change of venue for this case. Live in san jose, robert handa, nbc bay area news. Definitely a possibility. Thank you so much, robert. Authorities say a sunnyvale man pretended to be someone else in order to take advantage of teenaged girls. Officers arrested scott angelo on suspicions of tricking teen girls into sexting him photos. According to detectives, angelo would send texts to girls and try to make them believe they were talking to their own fathers. We dont know how they got their numbers. Tonight he is out on bond. Santa cruz deputies have identified at least seven victims, but believe there may be more. New tonight at 11, imagine every night being the fourth of july with fireworks exploding in your neighborhood. People living in san joses Townsend Park neighborhood say thats what theyre dealing with. The neighborhood is located behind the citys municipal golf course. Nbc bay areas peggy bunker is there, and residents not getting much sleep . Reporter thats absolutely right, janelle. Can you imagine living in the land of the never ending forrest . Neighbors say the middle of the night explosions are keeping them up. And for some its drastically affecting their health. In most neighborhoods, the fourth of july is over. But not here in Townsend Park. Neighbors in this closeknit Community Say that every night between 1 00 and 4 00 a. M. , someone is lighting off fireworks that sound like bombs. Well, its loud. Its crazy. It is loud. You would not believe the cacophony at 2 00 in the morning. Reporter last night like every night before it, the mortars exploded over the neighborhood. Lets see. It was about 1 30 in the morning, at least a couple of dozen bombs going off. And it shakes you out of your sleep. Reporter people live hearing say they cant even sleep because of the noise. I dont like it. I want it stopped. One night they went off after 3 00 in the morning. It was about 3 30 in the morning. Celebrate on the fourth of july is one thing. But do it every day, thats a bit too much. Reporter its all too much for everyone that lives here. But for residents lori, it feels like life and death. Have i stage 4 breast cancer. And im going through some pretty treatment right now. And have a lot of side effects to deal with. And i have an 8yearold. So im trying very hard to stay alive for him. Reporter she says her interrupted sleep is putting her very life at risk. Your sleep is when your body processes everything and when it heals. And im not getting a chance to heal from my treatment because im being woken up all night by these guys. Reporter now take a look at this. We just got this new video given to us by some of the neighbors here. Somebody actually had time to grab their phone and film this when these middle of the night explosions went off. You can actually hear the car alarms going off in the background. People say these explosions rattle the windows, set off the car alarms. They can feel the ground shaking. You can see the kind of chaos it causes in this neighborhood. If youre wondering, have the residents called the San Jose Police department . Yes, they have multiple times. The police just say they do not have the staff to station an officer here to try to put an end to this. As for who is doing it, residents say they have no idea. They just want it to stop. In san jose, im peggy bunker, nbc bay area news. Very frustrating. Thank you, peggy. Well, its happening again. In the midst of our historic drought, broken water pipes are leaking, for days. So what is the delay to fix them . The San Jose Water Company tells us they have bigger problems. The latest leak happened near diana avenue in east san jose. Neighbors say it was leaking for three weeks. They estimate the pipe is pumping out a gallon of water per minute. Over three weeks, that amounts to about 30,000 gallons lost. Today we made a call, and crews showed up soon after our call. We have to prioritize the leaks that we have in the system with the availability of resources that we have. And really try to target those that are much higher in severity. The company says its working to improve its Response Time and communication with affected residents. Well, just in to our newsroom, a second arrest in the attack outside of at t park that left a woman hospitalized. Tonight police in sacramento announced that second arrest. The other arrest was also in sacramento earlier today. Now, the fight happened about two hours after yesterdays giantsas game. A witness says two men started punching another man. One of the men then struck a woman who tried to intervene. And she just happened to be there i dont know if he was aping for her or what, but she was right there, and it was a really solid hit. It does not relate to any team paraphernalia, any team rivalry. That i can tell you for a fact. The female victim was knocked unconscious. Tonight she is recovering at home. New at 11 00, not on her cell phone. Oakland mayor jean quan has been cleared after an investigation into a car crash last month. This video shows the aftermath. Now investigators add they cannot determine which driver is to blame. Thats because of conflicting reports from witnesses. The crash happened in oakland. Now the other driver claims quan, mayor quan ran the red light while on her cell phone. Quan has denied that. Tonight the mayor released this statement. Quote, i was not using my cell phone while driving and it was not a factor in the traffic accident. I stand by my original statement that i do not believe i ran the red light. Currently in San Francisco, 62, with areas of thick fog. And throughout the east bay, a cool wind and 60. But you can see some of the best weather right here across the south bay with continued clear skies and 61. And youre going to want to take a look up, if you havent already tonight, or early tomorrow morning at 4 25. Thats exactly when the super moon is going to be in full position. Its when you get a full moon coinciding with the very close track of the moon and also the earth. Youre going to have to more opportunities, though, because also in august and september, well be looking at super moons coming our way. So lets take you into tomorrow morning and see what you can expect. And its going to be very comfortable. A little on the chilly side, around 6 00, 7 00, 8 00, with all areas reading in the 50s. The coldest weather in the north bay with 52 degrees. Then you can see in the south bay, 58 and also mostly clear skies. Lets take you into that microclimate forecast. As we head throughout saturday, it is here, and in just a few minutes. And youre going to be able to see some awesome weather in san jose. Sunny skies in 83. Well go for 85 in morgan hill. For the peninsula, areas of drizzle and fog in pacifica and 62. Palo alto, 81. And for San Francisco, well stay in the 60s along the embarcadero. Also for the hayes valley and for the marina as well. Well take you to the north bay, east bay and also the trivalley. Napa going just a little bit warmer to 84 degrees. And you can see across the east bay anywhere from 73 in oakland to 48 in walnut creek. And for the trivalley, 85 in pleasanton. 86 expected in livermore. So yes, its going to be warmer tomorrow. For the first parts of that weekend. Then as we head throughout sunday, its going to get even hotter. Check it out for the trivalley, 89 degrees. And for the north bay, we are expecting 88. So, again, a little bit warmer each and every day. Thats going to keep the fire danger on the increase again. Again, the contra costa fire currently at least 50 acres. Were going to have more on that at nbcbayarea. Com. And the thing that is not good news, hills above a thousand feet this weekend, saturday and sunday and monday from 15 to about 22 Miles Per Hour.
