New at 11, a small fire in the north bay possibly started by fireworks. This coupled with the extreme drought has firefighters on high alert as you might imagine. Kimberly tere joins us from dublin with more. Reporter people have until 10 00 p. M. Tonight in dublin to light off their safe and sane fireworks either at their homes or at one of the four parks designated across the city. You can see evidence of some of that fun still strewn across this parking lot. For many, setting off fireworks on the fourth of july is tradition. Even though only about a dozen bay area cities allow it. As long as they are the safe and sane kind. I like fireworks because they have a bunch of colors. And theyre very interesting. Theyre so amazing. And they can be shot into the sky and then they can blow up. And stuff blowing up is really fun. Reporter fun, but with all the sparks comes a stern warning from fire officials to be vigilant about safety, both when lighting the fireworks and deciding where to light them. The dry area in castro valley, there is always a fire danger signs all over the place. So we dont light anything here. We stay here. Droughts are a huge issue, especially all the dry grass and fires in general. Firefighters are already stretched. So dont want to tax them any more. It only takes a few seconds for a firework to set off in an area that is not conducive to having fireworks in with the dry vegetation. A gust of wind comes up, picks it up and the next thing you know its off and moving and out of control. Reporter in petaluma today, firefighters worked quickly to put out a twoacre grass fire that broke out in the area behind the Santa Rosa Junior College campus. One of the only cities in Sonoma County that allows safe and sane sale of safe and sane fireworks. And if i was a betting man, i would say this is probably a the cause of this. Reporter firefighters say four minors who were seen running from the scene have been detained and are being questioned. All for people like the mercado family. Youve got to do fireworks for fourth of july. Its like apple pie. Reporter this day at this park was tradition, until it was canceled in 2008. Every fourth of july we all knew that if you werent going to be anywhere, it would be here. So we started saying home and just looking to see where somebody was throwing their fireworks out of their backyards. Reporter now thankful the rotary club of san jose spent so much time and money getting their tradition back. It was a twoyear process. 200,000 raised and some of it from san jose and santa clara county. The setup started at 8 00 this morning. Pyro teches from the east bay prepared 1400 shells in all, preparing to launch them 500 feet into the air with a cometlike effect. We have over 100 shells like that in the finally. Ive never seen anything like this. Reporter many couldnt wait to see them, hoping to restart their tradition. Its nice for the public. You know, it shows that somebody cares for the public. Thousands crowded San Franciscos waterfront to enjoy one of the bay areas largest Fireworks Shows. A few barges not far from the shoreline lit up the night sky. Though you can see it from many parts of the city will, is nothing like being up close. Youre getting to see the small show from faraway. But tonight i got to see them up close and personal. So it was like triple size. Reporter not only triple sized up close, but ear popping too. It was really loud. Scary sometimes. But then i have to get over it. And it was really fun. Reporter the fantastic Fireworks Show seemed to be in jeopardy earlier. That darned San Francisco fog started rolling in around 7 00. And threatened to put a damper on things. There is a lot of wind. Reporter this family just moved to San Francisco from philadelphia and didnt want anything to spoil their first time. Im hoping the fog kind of just stays on that side and, you know, hopefully we can see a nice show. If you look right here, its actually not that bad. Here is rob mayeda with your microclimate forecast. He is a special guy. 95. Yes. It is a great story there. Weather shaping up nice. Especially around the south bay, we saw clear skies. San francisco were seeing red white and blue out there, but the white is courtesy of the fog there over downtown right flow. You can see the beacon lit across the transamerica tower there overlooking downtown. But weve got lots of low clouds right now. Over San Francisco, in some of that may drop some mists for tomorrow morning. You can see from the east bay too, from emeryville, low clouds starting to spread across the bay. So weve had a sea breeze throughout the evening, which helped to bring in some of the low clouds across the bay right now. Wind speed starting to back off a bit. But at least for the start of the weekend, well see a Strong Enough sea breeze to keep our temperatures from getting too hot. And the breeze is actually good news for air quality. At least to start the weekend, moderate. All the way around the bay area from north to south and out towards the coast. Well see what happens as High Pressure starts to build. Might see air quality become a little bit of an issue come monday and tuesday. Right now the fog is already pushed past San Francisco, over towards oakland. And by tomorrow morning, well start to kind of creep over the dublin grade and getting towards the trivalley. Might even see some low clouds around san jose too. And clearly, youve got the fog from San Francisco down the coast, filling in towards santa cruz for the morning, and then well see some clearing skies as we head through the afternoon. So the futurecast, the story for now is the fog and the mist that well see on the coast. Clearing skies inland as we head through the afternoon with temperatures tomorrow in the 80s to low 90s. And you notice youre a little more sunshine showing up late in the day on saturday as High Pressure begins to build in. So for the morning, plan on some coastal fog locally inland. Patchy low clouds, misty skies too, including in San Francisco for the morning. Heading through the afternoon, tomorrow well see sunny and mild conditions. But still cloudy and cool out near the coast. And as we head through the afternoon and valley temperatures, at least for tomorrow should be mainly in the 80s to low 90s. Sunday a little bit of a different story as High Pressure really starts to strengthen. And thats going to boost temperatures by sunday afternoon, out around the trivalley into the mid and possibly some upper 90s in the forecast. So for the weekend, valley temperatures climbing up. High pressure there off to the east. We could see some moisture coming up across the sierra. So if youre going to head to the high country, around lake tahoe, look out for a slight risk of some afternoon thundershowers. By tuesday and wednesday an area of low pressure here drop down. Thats going send the high far enough to the east that well see some cooler temperatures. You see there it on the sevenday forecast. Come tuesday and wednesday, numbers starting to cool down as we approach the middle part of the week. For tomorrow 86 degrees in san jose. About upper 60s for San Francisco. I notice here temperatures getting close to 90 in san jose by the end of the weekend. So a little bit uncomfortable. But by tuesday and wednesday, temperatures start to drop off. Low 80s throughout san jose for the middle part of the week. And into the north bay and try valley highs tomorrow around 90s. Same trend for santa rosa and livermore. Youll see the numbers spiking towards monday. Almost 100 degrees at times around the trivalley for monday. And then cooling back into the upper 80s as we head towards the middle part of the week.
