This home blocks from the university has already been convert need a mini dorm. Late tonight, city council made changes to keep familyfriendly neighborhoods in tact. Reporter People Living on park avenue say Student Housing will disrupt their relatively quiet neighborhood, which is just a sixminute walk from Santa Clara University. I was a Santa Clara University student. I love santa clara. But when you get 12 and 15 students together and parties going on in the middle of the night, it can be a problem in neighborhood. Reporter neighbors say this home is one of many being converted no a mini dorm. The house became six bedrooms sold in october, listed, approved for six bedrooms. Reporter tonight a hundred residents packed into City Council Chambers to address concerns. Among them, parking and noise. Seems Like Developers have more say with the process than the residents do. And thats what were asking is that residents have a voice in changes and development in the neighborhood. Reporter City Planners say the buyer is within zoning laws and the city cannot limit the number of bedrooms, only the size of the home. As you walk the line of the code, you can do anything you want to do, right . They are walking a very thin line on code. Only thing we can do is look at possibly changing codes. Reporter city tried to stop work on the project until the issue is are resolved but as things stand now, the owner has a valid permit to build. It is sneaky the way it was done. Reporter 26yearold Blake Parkinson from palo alto is in great pain after falling in Yosemite National park. He had a very difficult helicopters rescue. He got into trouble and plummeted about 30 feet. I hit a ledge with a large rock. I hit my back on a boulder. It was pro dutruding off a ledg. He couldnt move and needed rescuing. A number of factors made parkinsons rescue tricky, including the wind. Making it difficult to lower park rangers. Another problem was the wall of rocks. And how close the choppers spinning blades came to hitting it during the operation. Very technical rescue. Yosemite search and rescue are the best in the world at what they do. And if youre ever going to get injured rock climbing, Yosemite Valley is probably the best place to do that. Rangers train extensively for situations like this. They were going to lower parkinson to the ground but thought it would be best to hoist him up. He gave the thumbs up when he was secure and ready to be pulled up. People were just really competent and caring. And im very grateful that they were there and helped me. Wow. Parkinson expects to be back in the bay area for rehab this week, depending on his recovery this accident probably wont stop him from pursuing his love of climbing. Thanks, annette. Todays 62 vote in response it a michigan case fell all wait to the uc davis campus. It banned Public University to use affirmative action to increase student of color. Gabby shoeman says she feels the affects on campus. It isolating being here. Being the only black student in your class, seeing culture and all these things, yeah, it is isolating and it can be detrimental to your college experience. Gives the green light to states to discriminate against and impose a cap on the admissions of latino, black, native americans and other underrepresented minority student. Eight states have similar bans and have seen a significant drop in enrollment of black and other students. Several east bay cities are looking to raise minimum wage but berkeleys mayor want them to do it together. Tom banks doesnt like the hodgepodge of differing wages from city to city.
