The teenager claims he sneaked on to a flight headed to hawaii surviving the flight in minus 85 degree temperatures all while only wearing a sweatshirt and jeans. Kimberly tere is live with the latest. A lot of people find the story very improbable. Reporter thats right. A lot of confusion over this story. And that teenagers family is not talking. But experienced pilots are expressing a lot of doubt and confusion over how he got half way across the Pacific Ocean alive. It is just something is off here. It is impossible for me. Its not room in the wheel well for a human being to be without being crushed. There is not air to breathe and its so cold. Youre dead. I dont see how something is odd about this. Reporter many people including aviation experts are trying to figure out how a 15yearold boy made it from san jose to maui in the wheel well of a 767 Hawaiian Airlines jet. Its a circle the shape of the tires. Reporter federal Officials Say the boy was likely unconscious most of the trip since that area of the plane is not pressurized. I have not heard of anyone doing this and surviving. Reporter there have been 105 people who have stowed away in unpressurized compartments. Out of that 85 died. The teenager said he was running away from home and didnt know where he was going but he got by undetected. Airport officials are looking at their Security Program and footage from hundreds of surveillance cameras. Aviation enthusiasts say they hope the airport takes the breach seriously. A 15yearold kid was able to jump inside a plane. What happened if somebody was trying to do something really like a terrorist or Something Like that get on . Thats scary. We dont know much about the teenager. Today we went to the santa clara neighborhood where the family lives. There was no answer at the door. The family members did not want to talk to us. A woman nearby says she sees the family in the morning and they are quiet. Many are shocked by what happened. I was like oh, my god, a kid surviving that . Reporter the fbi says since the teen was not a danger to the flight, charges would not be filed. A young child is dead tonight, killed in a crash on highway 85 at 3 30 this afternoon. The investigation impacted the south bay freeways for hours. Highway 85 was reopened at 7 30 tonight. Reporter the chp did not receive a distress call from anyone in the area before the accident. So a drivers decision to pull over to the shoulder proved to be deadly. This is what is left of a ma da minivan carrying two children and a 41yearold woman from cupertino. They were parked on the right shoulder of northbound highway 85 just before the accident that killed the young girl who was buckled into her child seat. Most of the impact on the van is in the right rear where the child was sitting. So the vehicle the jeep did travel on to the shoulder and on that dirt embankment and the front of the jeep collided into the minivan and she traveled across all lanes of the freeway. Reporter the minivan left skid marks across the freeway. Three people were sent to valley medical center. A boy in a booster seat suffered major injuries along with the 56yearold male driver of the jeep. The female driver of the minivan suffered major injuries. The northbound lanes were shut down for hours. Officers want to remind drivers its never a good idea to pull off to the shoulder of the freeway. Its dangerous to stop your vehicle on the freeway. If you have any type of a situation where you need to use a cell phone or attend to your children, exit the freeway. Reporter a third car was involved, bumping the minivan but that driver was not hurt. The driver of the jeep could have suffered a medical condition. He could face charges related to the girls death. He was elected back in 1974, becoming the first woman in the United States to lead a city of more than half a Million People. Reporter in just the first month of this year, state regulators saw a 53 spike in the number of complaints from californians who need help with their insurance and the experience is not only stressful it has been costly for consumers trying to get answers. For some Health Insurance companies the influx of calls is so bad they dont give callers a chance to speak, hanging up after a prerecorded message. Others put callers on hold indefinitely. I have been put on hold up to 40 minutes. Reporter don is working on a masters degree and works full time in Customer Service. Having worked in Customer Service i know that calls can get backed up. Reporter she was involved in an individual health plan with blue shield of california. He decided to switch to his employers plan. He thought it would be simple to cancel. It has been over a month and a half. Reporter his story is a familiar one to marta. We have seen our call volume go up. Reporter she is with the California Department of managed health care. They protect consumers. In january they received more than 9300 requests for help. Thats a 53 increase from last year. Green says this is the first year the department began tracking who couldnt even reach their plan but only for those in covered california. Of those 1,000 complaints, one in ten said they were trying to cancel or couldnt reach their plan. What kind of consequences can the Companies Face . If a health plan violated the law they can face enforcement action. But, it would depend on the specific case whether the was a violation of the law. Is it a violation of the law not to answer phone calls on the Customer Service line . Is no law related to wait time. Reporter they want to hear if you are having a problem and promise to helps you solve it. Can you assure their complaint is not going into a black hole . Absolutely. Every complaint is investigated. Reporter tran joined dozens of others on social media posting pictures of their wait time and airing their complaints on forums where they are getting responses, facebook and twitter. We checked the facebook pages for anthem and blue shield and found complaints almost daily. Kaiser doesnt allow users to post to its page. Its where callers were getting a dial tone when they called Customer Service. Tran says blue shield only responded after he posted comments on social media. Now more than two months later he has his cancellation notice. the snag this time how much the company owes him for the premiums he paid because he couldnt reach anyone to cancel. Tran received a check from blue shield but it is not for the amount that the company promised. Anthem and blue cross have hired additional staff. Kaiser is no longer experiencing delays.
