Homeless usually is. City leaders say there are 5,000 People Living on the streets here in san jose. At city hall there is support for a plan to move some of them into motel rooms. But that support comes with a long list of concerns. Looks very similar to a slum in india. Reporter Charles Preston is talking about a homeless camp in san jose. He treats People Living in the jung well the Valley Homeless Health Care program. He said there are People Living there with housing vouchers but cant or wont find a place to live. You dont want to represent yourself in the best possible way when you cant have pride in who you are. Reporter the city council will look at moving Homeless People with subsidies into hotels and motels. The idea is to bring in a party to provide the Case Management and the services that are needed to ensure a path way to success. Reporter he wants to add kitchenettes to hotel rooms for a Pilot Program and hire a nonprofit to find the clients and transition them into permanent housing. But some on the council have concerns about losing hotel space and code violations. A motel operator is worried about the homeless scaring clients away. They are going to be chilling, not really looking for a place. I mean, thats supposed to be temporary housing away from home. Its not supposed to be long term. Reporter but people who work with the homeless say with 4700 People Living on the streets in san jose, its a good place to start. This type of thing where we can put people in temporary housing to get them ready to go into a more permanent housing is the answer far lot of people. Reporter the City Council Told the staff to come back in 60 days with more information, including how much it will cost and where the money will come from. They posted fliers and turned in Surveillance Video during januarys string of arsons. A dozen fires were set in january, many at houses were people were home. Police arrested patrick brennan. Neighbors in a part of san jose say they are scared after a man was killed inside his home. They were also surprised but what was happening in their home. Police say someone shot the victim last night. Sources tell us this was a marijuana grow with several plants growing inside the house. This is san joses ninth homicide of the year. A man is in the hospital recovering after being shot by an Alameda County deputy. They tried to stop a black bmw and the driver led them on a chase on i880. The driver is accused of trying to run down a deputy. The deputy, were told, fired two shots, aiming at the car. The suspect was hit in the arm and is expected to survive. Is it possible to raise a family on 8 dollar an hour . Most people dont think so. The city of richmond voted to follow in the footsteps of other bay area cities and raise its minimum wage. The vote happened minutes ago. Monte frances has the details. They were looking at several option. Reporter thats right. In about ten minutes ago, the Richmond CityCouncil Voted to raise the minimum wage to 12. 30. That would be phased in over three years and wont reach that figure until 2017. But that is the highest minimum wage in the country. I have bills and i have kids and i have to pick them up and drop them off. I need a good paying job. Reporter this 24yearold is a single mother who lives in richmond, used to supporting her family on a minimum wage job. I am looking at costco. Thats this highest paying job ive heard of here. They start off at 11 i here. The Richmond City council heard an earful tonight from those like gonzalez. It is taking two and three jobs for people to take care of their families. Reporter but some fear it will drive businesses out of town. Why would we think they could stay in business and why would we think they would stay in richmond . Reporter richmond isnt alone. A proposed ballot measure would raise oaklands minimum wage to 12. 25 an hour. Statewide it is slated to go up to 9 an hour in july. In san jose, is it 10. 15 and San Francisco is at 10. 74. The federal minimum wage is 7. 25. A higher wage would make a world of difference in her life. I would work less and spend more time with my kids and still be able to pay the bills. Reporter and the vote on the council was six in favor and one voting against the measure. The phase in would work like this, in 2015 in richmond the minimum wage will go to 9. 60 dollars and 11. 52 and then to 12. 30 an hour. There would be cost of living increases after that. Homeland Security Offices say that he and 13 other suspects lured young boys into uploading sexual videos online. This is a raid from Homeland Security today. The suspects created fake female personas and tricked the boys into believing they were chatting with girls. The ring spanned 39 states and six countries. Officials say is it the largest case theyve had so far. More details now, Homeland Security said the case was tough to crack. The suspects used the dark web a network of websites untraceable by Search Engines like google. The regular internet is websites are indexed. With Search Engines. A lot of things that happen on the dark net, theyre not indexed. So therefore their ip addresses dont show up in a general search. This case was tracked to a dark web network called tor. Following up to an nbc bay area exclusive. They spent taxpayer money on trips. And now they may pay some of it back. The Oakland Housing Authority is auditing travel by its commissioners. We uncovered commissioners spent 150,000 on travel. In some case, double dipping, attending conferences with meals provided but pick up a daily meal stipend. And commissioners got paid twice. Another commissioner flew to las vegas with no documentation of why he is there. Changes have been made to the travel policy and records from the past three years are being audited.
