Reporter aviation experts are telling us when an aircraft is over land it is tracked by radar. When it is out to sea it is tracked by gps. But when the aircraft being tracked by gps, there are times when only the pilots know exactly where the plane is. Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 seems to have just disappeared over the South China Sea. How can that be . All flights beyond 120 miles offshore use gps to determine their location and use that to communicate with the ground. But the gap between communications can be as long as an hour. The airplanes are getting the data back to the controllers is difficult. Reporter not only difficult to pinpoint where the plane hit water but difficult to determine how far it might have traveled after that. Account glide a long way under the water to a different location. They dont go straight down and with the currents account cover a lot of distance before it settles. Reporter there could be better locator technology but it would be at a cost. You could do something where the plane could release something that floated on the surface. Reporter but with nothing found of flight 370, theories are emerging there might have been foul play. It smells nefarious. Two things i could think of, one would be an explosion and one would be a hijacking or the highlights or one or more of the pilots are involved. Reporter just to let you now how frustrating this is for the search crews, Malaysia Airlines says that the crews are not just searching the water but on land for that aircraft. Thai police said one of the travel agent sis was contacted to book the two tickets for the passengers. The passengers were ticketed to continue on to europe. New details about a babysitter and a fiveyearold hit in a San Francisco crosswalk at 5 00 this evening at the intersection of 37th avenue and fulton. The car hit the two and injured both of them. Rescuers took them to the hospital. The conditions are unknown at this time. The police cited the driver for failure to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk. Reporter the San Jose Fire Department is trying to do its part by cutting back water usage by 20 by fixing leaky leaky fa and only washing when they have a full load. We are only using one load a day. Reporter of course the firefighters will use as much water as it takes to put out fires and to save lives. But they say whatever they can do back at the stations to cut back, theyll do it. We are just people. When we go home were going to be conserving water at our homes. Its only right that we as a family when we are in the stations which we consider our second home we do the same thing here. Reporter this is a big deal for the santa clara Water District to have a high Profile Agency leading the way, speaks volumes. I think we have a lot of respect for the firefighters. The fact they are taking the lead and doing everything they can to reduce their water use is an inspiration and should be an inspiration for everybody to do the same thing. Reporter it has inspired neighbors to do more. It is. And i have already started cutting down water like during shower i dont turn on the water if i dont need it. Reporter fire station 24 has a rain sensor system where the sprinklers will shut down if it rains. 11 stations have this type of technology. Live tonight in san jose tonight. If approved, san jose water would ask customers to repair leaks in five days, stop watching down sidewalks and patios and stop watering during the day. Californias Drought Conditions are driving an unusual plan to save millions of salmon. Dry river beds make it impossible for the salmon to travel to the ocean. Reporter wildlife officials agreed to use tanker trucks to deliver millions of young salmon here to bay waters. With the drought it may be the only way the salmon will survive. Getting to the ocean may be an Impossible Task for juvenile salmon this spring. Drought conditions may strand millions of fish from hatcheries like this one near reading. Conditions are so dry that state and federal wildlife officials are planning to truck the salmon to safety. They will put them in tanker trucks and bring them to net pens. Reporter john says giving 18 million juveniles a lift will help keep the salmon fishery afloat. The juvenile fish this year represent the adult fish to support our fishery in the year 2016. If we get the fish moved in trucks their survival rate goes way up. Reporter there is a risk that some wont know where to return to spawn. But it appears the severity of the drought will prevent natural migration, putting an entire industry at risk. It will be great for business. Reporter workers at the Farmers Market are relieved to hear there is a plan in place. Its a big difference in taste and quality when fresh, new, and local salmon comes around. Numbers in the low 70s. Ten degrees above average. Possibly near recordsetting highs saturday and sunday. You can see on the scrolling sevenday forecast, numbers in the mid70s. And get a load of this, potentially some 80s. By wednesday and thursday, mid to upper70s and by friday, 81 degrees, saturday and sunday going even warmer. It looks like a four to five day stretch of warm weather and eventually changes back here across the bay. Lets look at the forecast tomorrow. Sunny skies, all temperatures in the 70s. Looks perfect on the surface. But one issue for tomorrow. That is the pollen. Its going to go to the moderate category in the bay area.
