Two people found dead inside of a house in palo alto. This is an upscale area with Million Dollar homes. This fire not far from highway 101. Cheryl hurd is on the scene and cheryl, two people found dead. Any idea how this happened . Not yet, raj. Police are waiting for the coroner to arrive to remove the victims from the home. The fire is out and the street is still blocked off near highway 101. Police are not releasing the names of the victims, but neighbors have a good idea who they might be. Mike kelley was relieved to find out that it wasnt his home that caught fire this evening. His attention quickly turned toward his neighbors whom he says he hasnt seen in a long time. Donnie, i think hes about 58, 357, and the guy who is staying with him is maybe the same age. Donnie was a vietnam war vet. I think hes been pretty sick. Reporter another neighbor called in the fire about 7 30. When crews arrived, smoke and flames were shooting from the roof. They found half the home was fully involved. The kitchen in the upper area, and the other area of the fire was uninhabitable due to smoke. Reporter two people were found dead inside the home. Fire crews tried to save one victim by dragging him outside, but it was too late. The investigation is early. It is ongoing at this point. The Arson Task Force will be working in conjunction with the Fire Department and Police Department to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. Reporter the deputy fire chief believes the fire started in the kitchen. Officials say the home was in poor con, fidition. The home was apparently in fairly Poor Condition before the fire began, so the fire just enhanced that and made it worse 679 reporter we have no long how long this roadway will be blocked off. No survivors on board thats the word from authorities in idaho who found the plane piloted by a san jose software executive. Dale smith and four family members disappeared as they flew in oregon to montana. Smith reported engine trouble before losing contact. The search had to be called off in september because of bad weather. His brotherinlaw found the wreckage today, some 150 miles from boise. Smith was flying his son daniel, his wife and daughter and her fiance. Tonight, we spoke to dale smiths wife. She said there was evidence of a big fire after the crash and told us shes grateful to have some closure. Theres this huge feeling of relief that theyre found. But yet sadness that they really are gone. Up until now its always been theyre hanging out in the hot springs somewhere or a cabin somewhere and now we know thats not the case. Recovery efforts may be delayed because of a snowstorm. It is a heartbreaking tragedy, one that might have been prevented. A teen is dead after crashing her car in an isolated street next to the port of oakland. It is a spot known for fast cars and illegal racing. George kiriyama spoke with her grieving family and joins us live in san jose. George, i presume thats where she went to school. Yes. She was a junior here at oak grove. And caitlins family is devastated. They said they dont want any other family to feel what theyre going through. Their message tonight, make the right decision because your life may depend on it. Were grieving the loss of our 17yearold daughter. That were never going to see again. Reporter its her smile and happy nature the family will miss the most. 17yearold Caitlin Benson died in a high speak wreck near the port of oakland friday morning. This is a tragic, tragic thing for our family. Nobody, nobody should have their 17yearold daughter die in a car wreck. Under any circumstances, but especially racing in a car or driving fast and doing things at night when they should be at home. Reporter police say the car she was driving left the road and hit a pole. The crash killed benson and hurt a 17yearold passenger. Speed was a factor. What i would do is try to have all these kids that are doing this type of activity to think about the consequences that can result from activity such as this. Reporter investigators say the area where the crash happened is a hot spot for illegal street racing. Theyre investigating whether thats what happened in this case. These young kids today with the technology, the High Performance cars, the carelessness of their driving and thinking theyre invincible because theyre 17 and 18 and even younger, its not worth it to ride down the street so you can slap high fives with somebody when you beat somebody in a car race. Reporter caitlin was a junior. Her classmates were stunned to hear of her death. One student says his teacher talked about making the right choices. Its going to affect your parents, friends, loved ones and all those. Thats all he said, just think about the choices youre making. Reporter there are Lessons Learned here, hoping that what happened to caitlin will influence how other families deal with this issue. Take a second, sit down and reflect on the decisions theyre making to ensure that when they get in those decisions or situations, just think for one second about my baby that is now never coming home. Reporter students here at Oak Grove High School say there will be a candlelight vigil tomorrow night at 7 00. It will happen here in front of the school. Ve in south san jose, george kiriyama, nbc bay area news. George, thank you. A followup now. Police reaching out for help. Theyve released the sketch of a man who punched a woman earlier this week. It was a random attack. Heres the suspect. Police say he was wearing a white tshirt, jeans and a backwards white baseball cap. They say he attacked the woman for no apparent reason, as she dropped her daughter off for dance classes. They worry it will be a prank called the knockout game, where someone randomly punches someone in the face while its videotaped. Witnesses say the victim was hurt, but she did not need to go to the hospital. Police are looking for a man involved in a Sexual Assault and attempted robbery. It happened early yesterday morning in campbell in the area of winchester boulevard. This man is accused of grabbing a woman from behind as she walked down the street. Police say she got away by burning his face with a cigarette. She says he then threatened her with a gun. A lot of fires this sunday in san jose. Four started within a matter of minutes early this morning. The damage minimal and mostly to the exterior of those homes. Because a fuel can was found at one house, firefighters say it could be the work of an arsonist. Thats one of the issues we are investigating is what is the motivation for this person. If it is quite honestly attention, this isnt helping us. Investigators hope witnesses can provide the information they need to find out what caused the fires. Back to walnut creek now where jean elle is live. Jean . Reporter this scene is still very active. More than 35 firefighters are here. The fire is out, but its the gray house behind me and you can see the charred the damage on the second floor of the gray house there. Firefighters say thats where it started. When they got here, there was heavy smoke and flames pouring out. We have video from earlier. Firefighters got here and stau the active fire and called the second alarm so that more firefighters got here. Firefighters put water on the fire. Once they were able to get inside, they did find a man inside. And he did not survive the fire. They say it looks like the man was trying to get out, but this fire was intention. The second floor was involved and it appeared it had been burning for a long time. The floors had burned. There were holes in the floor because the fire had burned so long. Here in walnut creek tonight, we have one man who did not survive. Firefighters say he was trying to get out. But it looks like he died upstairs. They say they have not identified him yet. And right now, investigators are on their way. They will be coming here to take a look if there were smoke detectors in the house and to try and figure out what started this fire. Firefighters say none of the other houses near the home were burned but this fire has taken a life tonight in walnut creek and the cause is under investigation. Jean elle, nbc bay area news. A seemingly healthy 23yearold healthy bay area man died from the flu. Doctors say why younger people are at a higher risk. Another popular retailer dealing with a major credit card breach. The flew doesnt seem to care this year. Doctors say this strain is impacting a population that usually doesnt worry about a fever and chills. Only this year they should. A 23yearold has already died. This flu season, 11 reported deaths in the bay area. Alameda county has been hit the hardest with three deaths. When youre young, you think its not going to happen to me. And yet it can. Reporter San FranciscoGeneral Hospital dr. Chip chambers say as the number of flu cases soar, a flu shot is a good defense. So far bay area wide 11 patients have died, including 23yearold matthew walker. His family says he was healthy but got sick and didnt recover, even after being treated in the hospital. Doctors say young people are at risk for two reasons. First, its unlikely they got a flu shot. They dont have interaction with the Health Care System because they dont need to. Reporter and he says people in their 20s probably havent been exposed to the h1n1 virus. While older people have been exposed and can begin fighting the virus faster. Yoip it is new to the younger people. Reporter with nows of Young College students heading back to class later this month, University Health services is preparing to beef up staff and offer flu shot clinics after hearing about walk elses death, lowery says he will be first in line. I think that people should know that it is possible, that it can get really serious. I obviously didnt know that, and i think that would influence a lot of peoples decision to get a flu shot. From bad to worse, the data breach at target stores is bigger than previously thought. 110 Million People may be affected here. Last month, target reported that hackers stole the credit card numbers of 40 Million People. Now comes word that names, phone numbers, emails and home addresses for possibly 70 million more people were stolen. It makes it one of the largest security retail breaches in history. Full blown identity theft. People will start getting emails that look like theyre from target or the fibl. Its very real sounding information because they know all this about you. Check your accounts. Target is not saying how hackers accessed the data. In addition, target says its now offering free credit monitoring to all customers. New at 11 00, neimann marcus, the latest merchant to fall victim to a Security Breach exposing credit card information. The company says its informed federal Law Enforcement agencies and is taking steps to enhance security. Lets bring in chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. Its been an intense week. Thank goodness the weekend is here. A lot of you are thinking that, and we do have a storm system coming our way. But its going to make things feel a little different around here. After a sunny, clear day, one after the other, this is going to change it up throughout saturday. Cloudy with a chance here of showers. As we pull this map in view, what youre going to find is the storm system for the bay area still about 600 miles away. Eventually, yes, that is going to be impacting us with the possibility of the showers. Outside, we have 41 in the north bay. That storm just off to the north, currently 50 here in San Francisco. And throughout the east bay, relatively calm conditions right now, but the wind will increase as our storm system gets closer. Lets take you to the storm. This is easily one of the largest widespread systems we have seen in about two months. The thing that we really need here across the area is that center of low pressure, the heart of the storm system to move into california. But nope, not going to happen this time. Its heading up towards seattle. So with that said, beggars cant be choosers here, especially in this case. We definitely need that rain. Well take anything we can get. Well get the bottom edge moving across tomorrow, and that is still going to give us the possibility of showers all weeng long forecast models have been lining up with this rainfall, dropping down saturday morning. By 6 00 a. M. , were try with cloud cover on the increase. Might have a little stray shower, but the rain line will be off to the north. Throughout the late morning hours, 10 00, 11 00, a chance of showers. Watch this. The storm moves to the south and falls apart as it hits the east bay peninsula and for the south bay. Scattered chances of showers at best for you, anyone south of that Golden Gate Bridge line. Totals as we have been mentioning, not impressive. Trace amounts to about 0. 05 of an inch. That is the place that are have the possibility of getting anything at all. The peninsula, not looking at anything in terms of high accumulations at this point. For your saturday forecast, cooling temperatures by about 5 to 7 degrees, 60 in san jose. Chams of showers there. Also for the peninsula and for San Francisco. Jacket waex in place. North bay, east bay, temperatures very temperate. It helps to level out the numbers. 59 in napa. And for the trivalley, well go down to 62 in livermore, but its going to feel like the upper 50s. To the possibility of showers on saturday. Then sunday, a drier forecast, mostly sunny skies, on the cool side. If youre heading up to lake tahoe, get ready for snow showers tomorrow. About 1 to 3 inches here expected across interstate 80. At best, thats the most we will see at this point. Again, well take anything we can get after how dry weve been. And now the investigation into this deadly fire begins. It was the gray house over there that caught on fire. Firefighters tell me its the second story that caught on fire, and i did just talk with some stunned neighbors who stay they believe its a 60yearold man, a man in his 60s, who did not survive that fire. Firefighters say when they pulled up here, there was smoke and flames coming out that window. They called for a second alarm. The second floor was completely involved and once they got inside, after putting water on that fire, they found the man inside, upstairs on the second story. They stay it looks like he was trying to escape, but he was unable to get out and died in the fire. They say it was a difficult fire to fight because it looks like it had been burning for some time and there were holes in the floor making it dangerous for firefighters. At this point, the fire is out. The cause is under investigate shun and neighbors are shocked that a man in his 60s did not survive this fire. Back to you. Jean elle in walnut creek. But its not really causing any traffic problems right now. The coroner is here about to remove the bodies from the home. The fire started around 7 17 this evening. Palo alto officials believe that the fire started in the kitchen area. Neighbors say two men live inside the home. One apparently a vietnam veteran who hasnt been seen in a long time.
