We are near the toll plaza, as you mentioned. Since the bridge closed to traffic since 8 p. M. Wednesday, its been nonstop where we are through the tunnel. So far, so good. The bridge should reopen Tuesday Morning. This is a look at the new eastern span of the bay bridge now connected through the tunnel. I will say from a personal perspective and from the perspective of the highway patrolman, the driving experience is very nice, the roadway is very smooth and curves are nice and even, no sharp turns. Reporter demolition on the old 1,000 foot section of the bridge is expected to be completed by tomorrow morning and tomorrow night crews will start putting in the temporary bike path. While it is taking longer than they expected, they did allow time for things like this in the schedule. Its exciting to see the bridge, considering all the ups and downs this project has been over the past several years, particularly this year. Were now at this final milestone for the bridge getting open. But until Tuesday Morning when the bridge is scheduled to reopen, bay area residents either have to deal with the traffic or find alternate ways to get around. Instead of coming done 80 like we normally would, we came in kind of the back way through 680, through walnut grove temperature it was really nice. No traffic at all. We zoomed right in here. At tonights cal game, there were plenty of people showing up much later than they wanted. Take a lot longer but it is what it is. It was absolute madness. The traffic was unbelievable. It was packed and it was real hard to find a seat. Ill tell you, the two things i notice right off driving across the and span and theyre probably pretty obvious, the first is that it offers a much broader view of the bay as youre driving across and also the s curve is gone so its a straight shot to the tunnel once again. In the east bay police shot and killed a man this afternoon who they say was holding several weapons. Police received multiple emergency calls about a man shooting multiple shots. Police say they shot him because they were concerned for their safety. His identity has not been released. In oakland, someone shot and killed a man inside a night club at club anton. A fight broke out and then gun fire. Officers fonda man shot when they arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say they have not made any arrests. Police in palo alto work to track down a couple who robbed a man at the post office. Police say hes about 30 years old, 6 feet, about 200 pounds. Police say he and another man robbed the couple just after midnight on tuesday in the parking lot of the post office on east bay shore road. The husband handed over his wallet and the suspects took off. New at 11 00, images of a smo smokey Yosemite Valley. Smoke blanketing the valley during one of the parks busiest weekends of the year. The smoke was so thick, you cant see. Tonight the rim fire is 40 contained. Some evacuation orders have been lifted in communities north of the park and some of the 5,000 firefighters were allowed to go home over the weekend. More than 200,000 acres have burned so far, making it the fourth largest wildfire in state history. Convicted killer jason naso clams important evidence was never presented at his trial this summer. He has no one to blame but himself since he acted as his own attorney. He claims one of the victims could have been killed bay pimp motivated by revenge. He also claims there were unknown enemies. He never proclaimed his innocence. The murders happened in the 1970s in northern california. The penalty phase of the trial is scheduled to start wednesday. This man was booked and charged with two counts of homicide. Thats according to a new study from a spanish journal that studied the connection between alcohol intake and clinical depression. It studied high risk men and women. Moderate alcohol intake, two to seven glasses of wine a week was significantly linked to lower risks of depression, while heavy drinkers had an increased risk of depression. If your plans include interstate 5 or 99, heading toward the grapevine or southern sierra, smoke continues to pool to the south in Yosemite Valley and will continue to be a problem around Tuolumne County. This will continue as the smoke makes a turn back to the north getting into labor day monday. Notice weve had some thundershowers here to our southeast. Across Southern California theyve been watching very active weather. Some of this is going to get closer to us by tomorrow morning and eventually late in the day tomorrow two things could come together to bring us a slight chance of showers. This area of low pressure approaching the coast may try to add enough lift to the atmosphere to ring out just a few isolated showers for tomorrow. You can see there around Sacramento Valley and you see the cloud continue to spill on in for monday. And tuesday it doesnt look like the weather will impact the reopening of the bay bridge. That should be looking mainly dry with clearing skies as we get into morning and tuesday afternoon. 50s and 60s to wake up tomorrow morning. Highs tomorrow should be in the 80s, perhaps 90s in the warmest places. San francisco pretty close to todays high, 67 for tomorrow, low 80s in the north bay and mid 70s for oakland. As the cloud fill in, here come the sly chance of seeing those showers late sunday into monday. Labor day afternoon looks partly cloudy. Tuesday and wednesday well see things starting to warm up. The sea breeze will back off, which will allow the temperatures to climb up. So the second half of the week, those summerlike temperatures and sunshine will continue as we approach next weekend.
