went on their most extensive search yet for sierra lamar closer to home. you can see yellow ribbons have been put up as her family continues to hold out hope for her safe return. at 10:00 a.m. this morning, search and rescue crews, aided by canine, fanned out to look for anything that could lead them to sierra lamar. >> we've expanded our search now to a 12-mile radius outside much sierra's mom's house. it will take us to the southern end of the county and to the south end of san jose. >> reporter: the fourth and largest search effort since the 15-year-old was reported missing since march 16th. 90 law enforcement officials are involved, 30 from sant clara county, others from outside. its search and rescue crew pulled over wherever possible to look nor bridges and through brush for any sign of lamar. >> something that, you know, we need to remember is that nobody actually saw sierra leave her home. so we can't confirm what she had on, what she was wearing or what time she actually left her house. >> reporter: investigators found lamar's cell phone and purse near her home. inside the purse there were pants and san jose sharks shirt. sierra's mother said it looks like she was wearing the shirt in a photo she tweeted the morning she disappeared but it's hard to tell, purse nor cell phone have given them leads. fbi is setting up checkpoints, conducting interviews and using dive teams to search local waterways. investigators say they will meet tomorrow and regroup, decide where to go in the search. there's also a vigil planned for tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. at the crossroads christian center in morgan hill. live in morgan hill, kimberly terry, nbc bay area news. detectives are asking for the public's help as well and have set up a special e-mail address to receive information. it's here on the screen. we've also put the e-mail address on our web site at nbcbayarea.com. just search "sierra lamar". state senator leland yee searched for 27-year-old joseph mchenry, a former marine who told his family he was going on an overnight rock climbing and camping trip in pacifica at the beginning of the month. his car and backpack were found, but no one has heard from him since then. at least 20 marines from across the country have joined the effort that say they live by the motto, "leave no marine behind". >> we've got to find him. here was an individual who has served our country, helped our country, dwinded our country. and now in his time of need we all need to be here to help recover or to find him. >> the marines plan to continue their search near the sharp park golf course in murray point in pacifica tomorrow. after a tense standoff in the east bay, police arrested a man suspected of stabbing to death his exirlfriend. the young woman was found dead in the driver's seat of a car in front of her home on best avenue near san leandro boulevard yesterday afternoon. after interviewing the victim's family, police were held to 25-year-old edgar an fonz zoe vasquez. police surrounded the home near the crime scene and after a six-hour standoff s.w.a.t. teams entered the home and reportedly found vasquez hiding in a bedroom. he was arrested on suspicion of homicide. the victim's family says vasquez and the woman were dating but had recently broken up. police in watsonville arrested one of their own today for allegedly abusing his canine partner. this is how ingo the 5-year-old german help erd liked when he was rescued. he was under weight and his former and handler is francisco eye berra, a 15-year veteran of the force. iberra was discharged two years ago following an investigation in an incident where ingobit a man. the ex-ray shows that the dog's stomach was full of sand or dirt because investigators believe he was eating snig he could find to survive. iberra is set to appear in court april 18th. in san francisco, investigates continue to search through what they're calling a complicated crime scene where five family members were found dead. despite early reports of a possible murder? suicide, police now say it took take days 0 to determine whether a killer is among the loose or is among the dead. we are in the neighborhood for an update. >> reporter: good evening. we talked to one neighbor tonight who could hold the key into figuring what happened. he lives right next door. what he has to say seems to support the idea that this was not a murder/suicide but instead a targeted killing. >> i heard someone yelling in a male voice, like very strong, authoritative, in clear beginning r english saying, "get down on the ground now". >> reporter: richard lives next door to the home near city college where five people were found dead friday morning. at about 2:00 a.m. that day he says he heard a boom coming from the house next door, followed by the clear voice of someone he believes could not be a member of the slain family of chinese immigrants. >> if you suspect a family to quarrel, you could expect something in their native language. but it wasn't native. it was very clear, there was no accent. >> reporter: one other neighbor reported hearing a man's voice yelling but no one heard gunshots. as forensic experts continue to gather evidence from the home, police have shifted their kmenlts about what may have happened to the victims, some of whom were shot to death. at first saying all that were involved in the crime were found inside the house. now police say they're not sure the body of the killer was also inside the home on house street. >> i can't tell you why the homicide inspectors that are the experts in these areas are saying that, but they believe that there's absolutely no threat to public safety. >> reporter: despite those assurances from the police, the idea that a killer could still be on the loose does not sit well neighbors here, even if the family was targeted. >> there could be someone that's out there possibly. >> reporter: family friends who performed a chinese religious ritual friday night outside the home along with neighbors identified the owner of the house as a software engineer. she lived in the house with her parents and brother vincent and his wife. she also owned the house next door. richard describes her as a nice landlord. >> i can't imagine her having a confrontation with anybody. you know, she was a very likeable person. >> reporter: medical examiner has identified some but not all of the victims and also the extended family has not all been notified so right now none of the victims has officially been identified. live in san francisco, monte francis, nbc bay area news. there is a recall tonight in the bay area for a certain type of milk. it's not the type of milk you find in most large grocery stores, though. it's raw unpass triesed milk. if you have any clara vale farm products with march 27th dates or earlier, public health officials recommend you throw it away, raw milk, raw nonfat milk and raw cream. they found a bacteria in its raw cream that can cause cramps and other problems. the dairy is located 60 miles south of san jose. so far no illnesses have been lynched tolt recall. it as a rainy day. let's check in with rob hi. how long will the rain last? >> probably halfway through the widespread rain t. is really coming down around the santa cruz mountains, across the south bay, you can see it crossing the coast over highway 17, morgan hill lighter rain. downtown san jose, heading toward fremont and mill pete as, you're seeing the rain. the rain obviously extends over to san francisco and the peninsula to the north bay as always of this moisture goes south to north, we'll see a transition tomorrow as the widespread rain changes over to scat erred showers. with that cold air, we could see thundershowers in the mix tomorrow. we'll walk you through the timing of the chaks in the weather for the rest of the weekend in your full forecast coming up in a few minutes. diane? >> maybe monday. i think we'll catch a break early in the week. but in the south bay, starting to catch up, about a third of an inch, los gatos, close to it three-quarters, east bay almost up to a half-inch around spots around concord. the peninsula heading up to the north bay, over an inch in san francisco by tomorrow morning, these locations up into marin county will be approaching two inches of rain. right now, though, it's really the south bay and peninsula seeing the most of the moderate rain, which continues to sweep on over the santa cruz mountains into the santa clara valley heading up the 680 corridor, up the tri-valley, toward dublin and livermore seeing moderate rain. that continues on up through the peninsula into the north bay. a pretty wide area of rain. notice really no holes in it except around mogen hill. not too much the way of heavy rain. this continues south to north, but we need to get it out of here because a system moving throu southern california, it will take the rain line tomorrow morning and nudge it off towards the east. that's going to set us up for scattered showers and probably a few sunny breaks around midday. 1:00 tomorrow, notice we're not all in the greern anymore. we're seeing a few scattered showers, maybe with the heating of the day and cool air aloft, that could trigger a thundershower. but by 6:00, the sun starts to set, the solar-powered showers lose their energy. we'll see the showers shutting down toward the evening. then by this time tomorrow night, most of the showers have moved on, leading to a dry day for the workweek. looks like monday is the driest day of the week. temperatures around the bay area don't, in the 40s. keep in mind, we could see snow around mt. hamilton for the south bay up toward lake county in the north bay, snow levels as as 2,500 feet in the far north lo58. naes chilly air. tomorrow's highs again in the 50s. i think a rainy start to the day, transitioning to scattered showers. so if you think about it, it will be the opposite of what we had today. it was dry to start, then very rainy now. everything in reverse for tomorrow, a rainy start, changing over to scattered showers for the afternoon, still a slight chance of an afternoon thundershower, and then a pretty rainy week ahead, especially for the north bay. monday is going to be a break, then tuesday afternoon the rain comes back into the bay area. wednesday looks pretty rainy for everybody, then thursday into friday more north bay rain and then next weekend looks like rain coming back again. i know we need it, but if we keep serving up the rainty weekend forecasts, they're going to put me away. >> thank you, rob. still ahead at 11:00, we'll introduce you to a bay area actress who landed her first role in a blockbuster, in what rob was just talking about, the record setting movie "the hunger games". we'll show you. protestors rallied in cities across this country today calling for justice in memory of trayvon martin. the 17-year-old was shot to death last month by a neighborhood watch volunteer in florida. that volunteer has yet to be arrested. >> arrest zimmerman now! >> about 300 people marched in hollywood chanting for the arrest of the shooter george zimmerman. zimmerman says he saw the black teenager walking in a gated community wearing a dark hoodie and thought he looked suspicious. he followed martin and a fight broke out. things escalated and zimmerman shot and killed the teenager. protestors calling for his arrest say it was racially motivated. >> a young man walking around, a black man, in a hoodie doesn't mean he's a criminal, doesn't mean that he's up to no good. >> the teenager was not armed but zimmerman says he acted in self-defense. martin's death is capturing the attention of some of the country's most famous athletes as well. nba superstar lebron james tweeted this photo, with the team wearing hooded team sweatshirts, symbolic of what martin was wearing when he was killed. >> along with our fathers, a lot of us have young boys. puts us in a position where it's a position of injustice. i happy to spear head this and be part of this team and do what we did. >> martin was a big fan of the heat and last night at the game wade and james and other players wrote messages on their basketball shoes in honor of martin. the movie "the hunger games" is breaking records at the box office. the movie made history on its opening day earning more than $68 million yesterday, that is. that's a record for a non-sequel and the fifth best oftening day of all time behind the twilight series and one. harry potter movies. did you know there's a bay area native in the film? this is brooke bundy. she graduated in 2005 in or rind dao. seven years later after doing some indy films and stage work, she landed a role in "the hunger games". >> what was that like/. >> it was a blast. everyone was great. i had such a fun time on set. yeah, it couldn't have come as a better experience. >> the movie is based on the first book in the "the hunger games" trilogy. it's about teenagers forced to compete in a televised death match. she placed octavia who assists the main characters as they prepare for the competition. rob, i have to say i saw the movie, and -- >> what did you think?
