i'm the sheriff. >> he made clear he is not leaving his post as san francisco sheriff without a fight. >> i believe that i am still very able to be the sheriff of san francisco and that at this time i do not plan to resign. i wanted the healing to begin and i'm deeply sorry to the people of san francisco. >> he acknowledged concerns over his anger issues, but said he is not guilty of misconduct and along with a formal suspension. >> the sheriff's actions and confession of guilt clearly fall below the standards offy is densy and good faith rightly required of all public officials. i asked the attorney to prepare do you means and notify the board of supervisors and ethics commission. >> they announced the chief deputy who holds 35 years of law enforcement will fill the seat of sheriff as he now and there people that are leavingmont clair. >> those who are staying vulnerable in last week's burglary of an 89-year-old woman's home that got almost everyone's attention. police say two suspects kicked in the woman's door and tried to smother her with a pillow and locked her in a bathroom for hours while they ransacked the home. >> i can only speculate she didn't get to the door or didn't respond for them to kick in. it's horrific, but they did. she was feisty. >> people who live in the area are fed up and feel while police concentrate on high crime area, they refer to as the 100 blokes, that may leave more affluent areas open to crime. >> we know that there is a lot more violence going on in different parts of the city, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have police presence in all areas of oakland. >> it's something that everybody has to be transparent about. if you are taking resources from one area to another, you have to tell us. if you are not, you need to tell us that. we have to see the plan of the 100 blocks. >> a number of people showed up at the city council meeting saying that they want more police presence. the fight over more police officers in wireless together. sifting through the rubble, crews are surveying damage after a powerful earthquake that rocked the region. >> the 7.4 quake damaged about 800 homes between acapulco. it was felt hundreds of miles away in mexico city where buildings sway and panic spread. live from mexico with the latest. good evening, john. the pope is expected to arrive later this week. we are far enough away. we want to show you video from southern mexico. the state of guerrero is the area where the epicenter is. this earthquake happened about 11 miles underground. that could be the reason why we are not seeing a whole lot of damage. you are seeing a lot of fear and panic obviously, but a lot of folks are concerned because in 1985, there was a very severe earthquake in mexico city that killed about 10,000 people. that is fresh on their mind today, but in southern mexico in the area of the epicenter, there about 800 homes that were damaged and only 60 collapsed. the good news is nobody was killed. there injuries to report. 11 of them officially, but all of them minor. we talked about the fear that was happening set of the earthquake. i sat on the floor. >> the windows started to shake and there was lots of noise. knowing what the past has been here in mexico with regard to earthquakes. the area is voll cannish ash which is why it is prone to earthquakes. there were aftershocks to tell but as well. it has folks claiming that they have nerves and the initial earthquake, that 7.4 that was the longest earthquake they had felt. there was a 6.3 that happened in december and they
