The slowdown if youre driving in that area. First, joining us live from market and montgomery streets, this is where that is happening. Ginger, what are we talking about . Weve seen a lot of protests lately. Whats the message today . Reporter the message continues to be ceasefire in gaza now. Its directed to senators alex padilla and laphonza. Ill show you the the intersection of montgomery and Market Street which is shut down here in downtown San Francisco. The border of the financial district as well. You can see specifically what is blocking the intersection is a table with 16 protesters that are locked to it. It is symbolic of protesters asking california senators padilla and butler to the table to talk with Community Members who support a ceasefire. One of the protesters here this morning is a quadriplegic man from San Francisco who says he is here to give his voice and his alliance to ending the war. He says he is not deterred from how past protests have ended in arrests. Those arrests are actually inspirational. We dont want business as usual. We will keep showing up and disrupting as needed. Reporter now, you can see actually Market Street is open to its normal traffic. Were seeing a truck and that bus just pass by. Its really the intersection of montgomery passing market and moving on to new montgomery. I do want to call your attention from that protest with the table on it. Our camera, our photographer josh will move over to another action over at the one post building. There are also a dozen or so protesters on that side, blocking entrance to that building because thats where senator Butlers Office is. I am told this protest is scheduled to last for 170 minutes, which is symbolic of when protesters believe are how long, or how long protesters believe the war has been going on in gaza. That is still not set in stone, as im told. They will stay out here as long as they need to to call attention to the message that they so want to send this morning. San Francisco Police is here on site. They have cars patrolling on sutter as well as nearby kearny. They say no arrests at this point need to be made but if there are further disruptions, they will act accordingly. In San Francisco, nbc bay area news. Thank you. Now lets turn to nbc bay areas micah noah. This is a very busy part of the city. How can drivers try to get around this demonstration . This is right off market, north of market. Market separates montgomery and new montgomery in the middle of all these high rises. Lets show you the labels. Im showing you the arrows. We have a lot of oneway streets. The activity here, market, where ginger did show muni. She said you would see muni in the foreground but there may be disruptions. The b. A. R. T. System goes underneath moving just fine. Second and third are moving one way. Sorry. Sutter and bush are oneway. That will keep you clear of all the protests and the marching you saw there. Third street, well take you toward market but market has got restricted traffic flow because of the muni and bus restrictions as well. Mission is a good option. And Second Street is both directions. New montgomery, montgomery, and market is where all the closures and the protests are disrupting the traffic flow. Back to you. Thank you, mike. And this isnt the first time that ceasefire protesters have shut down traffic in the bay area. In november demonstrators shut down the bay bridge to protest the war in gaza. The activists stopped traffic for hours and several organ donations were actually delayed because of the backup. They couldnt get the organs across the bay bridge. Participants face misdemeanor charges in San Francisco. Last week propalestinian protesters shut down the golden gate bridge. They got out of vehicles with signs. Chp says the protest took about 20 to 30 minutes and no arrests were made there. Just yesterday, an activist brought standstill between due boies and octavia. No arrests were made then. The chp said they rarely get advance notice of the actions but it does have a protocol in place to get vehicles moving again quickly. Yesterday, activists told us, they are vowing to organize more road closures as long as the middle east conflict continues. Just into our newsroom, a United Airlines flight from San Francisco to boston was diverted to denver after experiencing an issue with one of its wings. In a statement, the airline confirms it happened yesterday. Check out this video. This is from social media. It is showing the damage there to that wing. Look at it. The flight landed safely. None of the 165 passengers were hurt. Passengers were then moved to another flight. The faa is now investigating that incident that happened aboard that boeing 757200. This is at the intersection of white oak lane and poinciana drive off the lawrence express way. You can see the police are still on the scene. Theyre expected to be here throughout the afternoon and theyre focused on a unit to the left of your tv screen. Just before 2 30 this morning, a man shot and killed a person inside that apartment unit. That person died on the scene. Were still waiting for the Coroners Office to arrive. Police found the suspect, the man, nearby. They arrested him just after officers arrived on the scene. Its not clear what led to the shooting or what relationship if any the man has with the victim. Earlier this morning, people were gathered out front. They were distraught, crying over what happened. They were receiving the news from police. We believe they were family or friends of the victim. This is the second homicide of the year in santa clara but prior to 2024, prior to this year, the last time someone was murdered within the city limits of santa clara was back in 2020. There is that steady blast of moisture that is still being drawn across Southern California and then we are seeing the spotty showers near the center of the storm that is coming in as we speak. Weve seen a couple of lightning strikes across coast alma rin county. But so far, not a lot of that has made it in. Weve seen the rainfall moving in toward dylan beach. And then some really intense rainfall that has picked up as you approach the 101 corridor. Were going to see the chance of thunder continue for today, for all of this area, shaded in this light green that is highlighted by the storm prediction center. The debate is hosted by our l. A. Sister station knbc. The stage is set as you see there on the screen. Our political analyst larry said schiff as the front runner has the most to lose as the favored candidate. So he might play it pretty safe. The rest will be in a battle for number two. Heres one of the moderators, knbc political commentator conan nolan. Remember the top two finishers go to the november runoff. Remember, this is historic. The last time this seat was open was 30 years ago. In california, a lot of other states, once somebody gets elected, theyre going to be there for a while. This is the first time American Airlines has increased baggage fees in nearly six years. To a followup, niles canyon road remains closed because of the storm damage and it will remain that way for at least the next few days. Caltrans macing that assessment earlier this morning. The road near there on highway 84 shut down yesterday after chunks of that that road washeded away along alameda creek. And the section of highway 9 is closed. This is outside saratoga. This is due to a mud slide between sanborn road and red wood gulch. It is estimated to reopen about 8 00 tomorrow night. Lets take a live look at mt. Rose in lake tahoe. For thousands of kids, this is their ski week. That means no school all week. The tahoe area is still under a winter storm warning. Take a look at dodge ridge resort off highway 108. Another storm is moving into that area this afternoon through wednesday morning. Now a look at how much snow has already fallen. That is a lot of snow. Great for the skiers up there. That was really bad. Its very difficult to travel. And i do have some updated snowfall totals. Theyve downgraded that winter storm warning to a Winter Weather advisory. That means that it may be a little bit tricky to get there but were not expecting much more additional snow. Weve had a lot with kirkwood getting 32 inches of snow in the last three days. And heavenly has had more than two feet of snow. Sierra tahoe, 27 inches. Bear valley at 18 inches of snow and north star, 24 inches. Once again, weve seen that winter storm warning downgraded to a Winter Weather advisory, as we may still have some breezy winds and low visibility at times. Here in the bay area we talked about that mudslide near saratoga and this is the reason why. Weve had over six inches of rainfall since the weekend. And calistoga has nearly six inches of rainfall. Santa rosa has had over five and fairfax, 3. 74 inches of rain. Mt. Diablo, over three inches of rainfall. Where do we stand when we compare this season to last . We know that last year was kind of crazy for a while. We had so far this season over 28 inches. So thats more than last year. In santa rosa but not more than last year in oakland, livermore, San Francisco. We are very close to last areas rainfall totals as well, as san jose both seasons getting about 12 inches to date. And were seeing more rain coming in with the heaviest rain moving across Southern California. We are seeing a lot of lightning strikes just off our coastline. But a lot of that is not making it into the inland areas. We do have that chance as we continue to watch for the heavier rainfall now moving into the north bay. Moving over closer to novato in the next few minutes. Weve seen the rain really picking up in the last few minutes. As we go throughout the day, we will see off and on showers. It may be heavy with gusty winds and flooding. It does look to taper off. We should have a chance to dry out after that. Were looking at another quarter inch of rainfall between now and tomorrow and for the weekend, i was watching this storm. As of now, it looks like it will stay off the coast and to our south. So that will give us a break from the wet weather going into the weekend. At this point, it is muchneeded. As we go into next week, there will be more active weather coming our way along with colder temperatures. As we look at the sevenday forecast, a chance of showers today and tomorrow. It looks good for the weekend. Were even taking out the sunday rain chance. Marcus . Thank you. Happening now, San Francisco just named among the top 100 hardest working cities in the u. S.
