Governor newsom is under the microscope for comments he made about possibly appointing someone to temporarily take over senator Dianne Feinsteins seat. Heres the exclusive interview on nbcs meet the press yesterday. No, i dont want to make another appointment. I dont think the people of california want me to make another appointment. Because you would be appointing both seats. That said, its my job, its my responsibility. If we have to do it well do it. Youll abide by your pledge . Interrim appointments, i dont want to get involved in the primary. Three highprofile democrats are running to replace senator feinstein who is retiring when her term ends in january of 2025. But the 90yearold is under increasing pressures to step down before that. Governor newsom promised to appoint a black woman to the next Senate Vacancy if there is one, andd and right now the only black woman in the race is senator barbara lee. She says be a interim appointment would amount to a token. Joining us now is our political analyst larry gertzin. The governor uneasy discussing a feinstein replacement. To be very clear here, if she serves out her term, then the candidates run for her open seat. Thats right. This is all talking about if she doesnt finish her term who would he replace, who would he appoint . Shes very frail. We know this. This is no see cell. The question is will she step down . Will she pass . We dont know. Youve got to be set up, thats reasonable. The problem with Governor Newsom or for Governor Newsom is he said two and a half years ago i will appoint a black woman should there be a vacancy before feinstein leaves, and he said that because he found himself in trouble when he appointed a Latino Alex Padilla to replace kamala hairs. Sure. A lot of balls are in the air and not everybody is happy. Why far is this a story . So far its speculating that perhaps this would happen, maybe we wait until it happens if it does at all. Of course. You hope it doesnt happen. Newsom said it himself. You hope it doesnt happen, and youve got to be red and the problem for newsom right now there are a lot of good talented black women up and down politics and erected office but very few of them if a want to leave their post for a short pier. Youre talking about a few months they would serve ashat you call a praiseholder, okay, and thats the problem and then theres barbara lee. And why not barbara lee. Wellknown in northern and southern california. Why not just say if it comes to that well go with barbara lee. Fair question. What newsom says i would tilt it tn. Weve got three people, among others. These are the tee leaders. You see it right there on e screen. Shes in a tight spot, number three. A lot of undecideds early on, and its been that way for a long time. The lead for the first two schiff and porter have been separated from least. Imagine what happens if lee becomes the incumbent. There will be a tremendous advantage and its what newsom says. Hes backed into this corner. He has to find somebody and is having a hard time somebody willing to take that spot for a short period of time and give up an office. Whats the next move . Does he even have a next move . Will he stay quiet if he has to do something . Maybe prayer. Hes got a problem here, and hes hoping, he is hoping, that feinstein goes ahead and manages to eke out her term. He doesnt want to make a decision. He doesnt want to find somebody. It could be somebody we dont think of right now, somebody we dont know very well and nonetheless talented, but he has to go on expedition finding that person should the opening have to come. Sure, senator feinstein has 15 months remaining in her term. Thanks. Covid boosters are on the way and for the first time you may have to pay for them. A powerful video. Jeff ranieri is there. Happy monday to you, jeff. Not a bad start here on our monday across the bay area. We did manage some blue skies. Temperatures not too hot, and were going stay with a similar trend as we roll through tomorrow, but overall numbers dropping off a couple of degrees. Not going to become cold outside by any means, but instead of upper 80s inland, well drop it down into a lot of mid to low 80s through the inland valleys tomorrow. Again, from this cold front. Kind of keeping it pleasant outside for september, and well also have some of the morning fog back. So as we move it into tomorrows forecast, well start it off with lots of 50s here well have you down to 56. South bay 57, and we continue with very, you know, typical weather here through the east bay, San Francisco and the north bay as 509s begin again with some areas of fog. Let me get you a better look at the fog tomorrow morning. This is at 7 00, and notice at the coastline the bay, also a little bit here for the south bay. Well see the low clouds to start. Do i think its going to hang on near the bay into about 10 30 in the morning and then everybody, even the coastal areas, will get in on some sunshine for tomorrow. So overall tomorrow this is looking really good here for us. Numbers cooling off by 3 to 5 degrees snow will bring us back down to 80 in napa and 48 in concord and 28 in san jose. 70s oakland to palo alto and 60s right there at the coast. Now if youre doing any traveling tonight, i did want to show you what were going to be seeing in the travel delays here coming up in just a bit. Theres no way well get into the 100s but i do see upper 80s returning again by thursdays forecast. Not going to last long because by this weekend check it out. We get a cooler system dropping on down. Its going to hang out into next week, and thats go continue to keep numbers below average as we start off next weeks forecast. So not a bad trend here over the next seven to ten days. Now when it comes to travel delays, if youre doing anything at the airports, were watching storms over the midwest and northeast putting us 81 minutes behind in boston and 45 minutes behind in newark. Now when it comes to traveling tomorrow, some storms over albuquerque, phoenix, also back here towards new orleans and orlando could bring in some delays. On the sevenday forecast here in San Francisco, here we go. 60s coming back in as you roll through the next seven days. That morning fog, afternoon sunshine, and through those inland veils, were going to go back up a little bit here wednesday and thursday into the upper 80s, and then there we go, that gradual drop at sunday. Were at 18, looking ahead towards next monday 78, and that trend next monday is something we could be with for a good part of next weeks forecast, so so happy this time of the year to not be talking about 100s. We can still get into the 100s into about october the 15th. Okay. You know, speaking on those averages, so this is kind of an enjoyable trend. Okay. Country club weather. Yes, i like that.
