Now i remember it. Your next to the guy whose bad at being president. [ light laughter ] White House PressSecretary Sean Spicer today said, that President Trumps executive order on travel is not a ban, despite trump using the term in a tweet yesterday. And trump was so embarrassed his face turned red 30 years ago. [ light laughter ] according to a new poll 45 of republicans believe god helped elect President Trump. Though personally, i find it hard to believe that god would turn his back on his Old High School classmate. [ laughter ] youre leaving me hanging out here. [ laughter and applause ] i shared my sandwich with you. [ light laughter ] we rode the bus, and you forgot your sandwich. And i gave you half of my sandwich. Thats how i think it went down. [ light laughter ] according to a new poll, Chris Christie currently has the lowest Approval Rating for any governor in any state, in over 20 years. Wow, said former illinois governor Rod Blagojevich from prison. [ laughter and applause ] President Trump today met with executives from the pharmaceutical industry, and they once again explained to him that theres no such thing as viagra for your hands. [ light laughter ] come on. Do something. A group of more than 500 sledders at an austrian ski resort, recently set a new world record for the longest chain of sleds. Even more impressive, literally anything. [ light laughter ] oh, you were in that sled chain . Tell me less. [ light laughter ] according to a new study chlorine could make condoms less effective. Unfortunately we dont have that kind of time. [ laughter ] whos got four hours to put Something Like that together . Over the weekend it was revealed that Melania Trump will appear in the february issue of vanity fair mexico. And thats fine, but what really got peoples attention was the cover photo, look closely at this. Okay now, what the hell is going on with that fork there . [ light laughter ] raises a lot of questions, doesnt it . Which brings me to a new segment we call a lot of questions. [ cheers and applause ] first off, is she going to eat those diamonds . [ light laughter ] also, donald, are you not feeding her . Or in the trump household are diamonds food . Ive got a lot of questions. Heres some more. Since shes also wearing jewelry, does she think shes wearing snacks . [ light laughter ] so is someone who eats diamonds while wearing diamonds, the same as someone who eats doritos while wearing doritos . [ light laughter ] so many questions. Also, do you think donald trump is happy to see his wife eating diamonds on the cover of vanity fair . Or mad because they put his quote in spanish. [ laughter and applause ] and and if its in spanish, does that mean they had to translate trumps original quote from russian . [ light laughter ] i have so many questions. Why is she twirling it like spaghetti . [ light laughter ] is that the right way to eat diamonds . Because when i eat diamonds, i just pop em in my mouth like skittles. Have i been making a fool of myself this entire time . And one last thing, isnt it weird that, this isnt that shocking . That its not even the most bizarre thing weve seen this week. Marie antoinette said, let them eat cake, and there was a [ bleep ] revolution. Meanwhile melanias [ laughter ] eating diamonds, and were all like, ah, it could be worse. It could be worse. [ cheers and applause ] this has been a lot of questions. [ light laughter ] its very sharp. A company is launching a new athome fertility test that uses your smartphone to measure sperm count. So i guess put it in rice after . [ laughter and applause ] an australian woman, recently called the police to complain that the price of marijuana in her community had risen. Though based on that story, so has the quality. [ light laughter ] youve got to be pretty stoned to call the cops. [ light laughter ] the Westminster Dog Show recently announced that for the first time it will feature cats. Unfortunately its at the concession stands. [ audience oohs ] [ light laughter ] its not our last joke about the Westminster Dog Show. Were going to win you back. The Westminster Dog Show has added three new breeds to its annual events. Said the dogs, yeah, last years after party got pretty wild. [ laughter ] and finally the Westminster Dog Show recently announced that for the first time it will feature cats. Okay, thats it. I am married. I have a kid. But nothing, nothing makes me feel older than when i realize i dont understand the new slang the teenagers are using. And it seems like these days, teen slang terms are evolving so fast that sometimes its hard to keep up. So we decided to give you, a little primer on new teen slang terms in a segment we call seth explains teen slang. [ cheers and applause ] our first teen slang term is wikisaurus. Lets see what it means. Its when you write a term paper using only wikipedia and a thesaurus. [ light laughter ] for example, monica wrote in her term paper, George Washington was the primogenial president of the united states, and he expired in 1997. [ light laughter ] im pretty sure she wikisaurus that [ bleep ]. [ light laughter ] our next new teen slang term is spudly. Lets see the definition. Its a description of someone who used to be a stud, but now kinda looks like a potato. [ laughter ] for example, brandon used to have an eightpack back in high school, but i saw him at the gym during thanksgiving break, and his belly looked all brown and lumpy. Boys down right spudly. [ laughter ] up next, we have doobie howser. Lets see what it means. Its a doctor who you think is probably high. [ laughter ] here it is in a sentence. Told my doctor that my head hurts and throat is sore and he just said, whoa, that sucks, man. While eating a bag of spicy cheetos. Doobiehowser. [ light laughter ] very helpful. Its very helpful term to use. Our next term is very new, its called skeeve bannon. Heres the definition, a guy lurking around the background, who you are sure is up to something. [ light laughter ] for example, keith just stood in the corner all night at maggies party, and didnt talk to anyone. When i looked over at him, he winked and blew me a kiss. Skeevebannon. Up next we have her gers. This is an expression used to greet friends, after one just had their braces tightened. Lets see it in a sentence. Her gurs, weres erp . Im brak from the orthodontist. [ light laughter ] i dont know. I dont know if thats technically slang. [ light laughter ] moving on, our next teen slang term is lando. Heres the definition. Someone who feels like theyre the only black person in the entire galaxy. [ light laughter ] for example, bought one ticket to last nights jason mraz concert, and i was definitely the lando in that room. [ laughter and applause ] staying on topic, next we have rogue one. Lets see what it means, the scifi kid who shows up alone to prom. [ audience aws ] sounds like, we got some rogue ones in the house tonight. [ light laughter ] for example, richard showed up at prom without a date. When the d. J. Played 24 karat magic that rogue one did a light saber routine on the dance floor. Hansolo. [ laughter and applause ] next up, its sully, heres the definition. Someone who falls into the pool, and miraculously saves his smartphone. For example, mike had one too many shots of grey goose and tripped over a deck chair, and did a header into the pool, but somehow that sully managed to keep his phone from getting submerged. Miracleinthehudsonfamilypool [ laughter and applause ] our last teen slang term is russian hooker. Lets see what it means. The kid in your class who still wets the bed. [ audience oohs ] you know, because our president. [ laughter ] for example, daniel was late to school again this morning. He said he missed the bus, but i know that boy, a russian hooker. That was seth explains teen slang. Well be right back with Robert De Niro. [ cheers and applause ] vo love. I got it. I gotcha baby. vo its being there when youre needed most. Love is knowing. Seth thank you for being here. Thank you, seth. Seth our first guest tonight is a twotime Academy Awardwinning actor and director you know from legendary roles in films such as raging bull, heat, and goodfellas. He stars as standup comic looking to make a comeback in the comedian, which is in theaters friday. Lets a take a look. So how are you . Im, good, good, you . Im good. Im good. Im good. Look, the only thing is look, i, i i lost a lot of gigs mmhmm. The last four weeks because of what happens. Mmhmm. Millers re you know. Shes rebooking them, but im tapped out. Ive got to read in [ bleep ] google news that you got arrested. Im making amends. Am i nothing to you . I was preoccupied with staying single. Is my family nothing to you . Seth please welcome back to the show, Robert De Niro. [ cheers and applause ] seth welcome back. Thanks. [ cheers ] seth so happy to have you here. [ cheers ] hey, thanks. Seth by the way, its very hard for me to picture you cheering like that for anyone. [ light laughter ] when you were young, was there anybody that you if they had walked out, you would have cheered like that . Uh, no. [ laughter ] seth yeah. I cant even picture you, like, cheering. Do you cheer at sporting events . No. [ laughter ] seth yeah. Do you enjoy them . Do you like watching them . No. [ laughter ] seth yeah, okay. That would mean the cheering would be very out of place. I wanna get out of here i couldnt believe is it true thats the first time you worked with danny devito . Youve known him forever . Yeah. Ive known danny forever, but its the first time we actually worked together. Seth the scenes with him are incredibly funny throughout the film. It must be nice youve known him long enough that you werent actually you must have known he would be great to work with him. Yeah, no, i mean, it just never happened. And actually, taylor hackford, the director, was saying, lets get danny. I said, great, lets do it. Great, great. Seth its really fun. So, you played an old standup comedian trying to make a comeback. Older. Seth older, sorry. [ laughter ] because there are older there are people older than you in this movie. Oh, yeah, yeah. Seth and they look terrible. You look great. [ light laughter ] but you how did you come up with this idea because this sort of came from you and a couple of other people, right . I was just i think the idea of playing a comedian, i have many comedian friends. I love comedians. And i thought, you know, a chance to play a part where you can theoretically do anything, say anything, and itll be funny and clever and this and that. And thats you what say. Its like telling someone you got a great idea for a script, and itll be this, and itll be that. But then, you got to do it. Seth yeah. So thats the difference. But, so we finally did what we did, and did the movie after many iterations and a few different directors and so on, and it became what it was. So, i hope it was seth and you, this of course, beats your preparation as an actor, but you actually went and did some standup, yes . I did. I worked with Jessica Kirson and lewis friedman. And, id work at the comedy cellar, but not with an audience with, you know, people around, or some of the crew and this and that. I didnt do as much, really, of audience work, which is hard. Seth yeah. Thats really seth well, it would be very hard for you, lets say on a normal night at the cellar, if they said, we have a surprise for you. Its Robert De Niro. I dont think you would get a true read on how good a job youre doing. [ light laughter ] yeah, unless i told unless after, like, somebody said, youve got a minute. After that, if you dont you know, because everybody with who is ever playing. Seth yeah. If you go there, they wouldnt be there if they werent good. But they could maybe be getting a little dying a little bit maybe here and there. Youd see, you know, people kind of waiting for better stuff to come along. In my case, if i did you know, id came in, they were with me, i said a joke or two. And then, after that, id just kind of didnt know what i was doing. Id forget it. Itd be over. Seth yeah, it would be. Is that terrifying to you, the idea of bombing on the standup stage . Yeah. I mean, in that situation, when youre trying to be funny and people are not responding. In fact, when we were shooting seth been there by the way. Yeah. [ laughter ] when we were shooting some scenes, we had the extras there. So, id tell the joke, you know, a couple of times. After the second time, like, they didnt really you know, it was like, okay. I told the director, i said, something is wrong. I said, maybe ask everybody to be very responsive, because otherwise, it doesnt give me anything, and i feel like i am bombing. Seth right. I am. Seth yeah. At least they are acting, you know . Theyre making me feel good. [ light laughter ] even if they dont mean it, just do it. So thats what happened. Seth and the last time you were here, you mentioned you know a lot of comedians. You had the don rickles roast. That was in 2014. Yeah. Seth you and Martin Scorsese. How long have you known don rickles . Ive known don since we did casino, which was done about 22 years ago. Seth one of the things about being you sort of played this legendary comedian, but you also, in the film, were on the television show. You have a catchphrase. So, everybody is coming up to your character and asking to hear the old catchphrase. That must sort of ring true to something that happens in your life all the time. Not a lot, but sometimes people will ask me to do that. Seth yeah. Yeah. Seth i feel like people would do it to you more than theyd ask you to do it. [ light laughter ] yes, thats a good point. Seth yeah. Thats a good point. Seth well, i know we well, the last music you know, write it on, you know, like a glossy or Something Like that or say it, or say, you know, maybe ill say it on an iphone or some way. Seth that must excite you. Not, not much, but [ light laughter ] seth its weird to me that someone, someone that is a fan of yours, its very funny to me they would be a fan of yours and not think you would hate that. Like, hey, my mom is on the phone. Would you say, are you talking to me . [ light laughter ] well, i wont say that, but ill talk to your mother. Seth oh, thats nice. Yeah. Seth is that fun to do . Yeah, i like talking to people. I dont mind doing that. I like that people appreciate it. I know that they really appreciate it, and i understand that. Seth its nice. Accommodating fans is so lovely. Yeah. Seth whereas in often times, those moments are wasted trying to get a memento, a photo, because then theres less time right. Seth to talk, and so, its nice when that actually has a chance to work. Right, right, right. Seth Harvey Keitel is in the film as well. Yes, harvey. Seth and harvey, actually, is in one of the scenes as asking you to do your catchphrase, and that must be weird, considering youve been in so many films with him over the years. Yeah, no, it was good. I like that scene a lot, and harvey was great. It was fun to do, you know, to work with an old friend. And were comfortable with each other. You know, its all great. Seth one of the greats roast scenes in that has him, real comics as well, and one of the things that happens is the person whos getting roasted passes away during the roast. Yes, yes. [ laughter ] seth and your character is sad but not for the reason you think. No. I didnt get my best lines out. [ laughter ] seth and i do know a lot of comedians where that would be the case. Uhhuh. Seth yeah. Okay. Seth sometimes, even in the face of tragedy, the first thing they think, well, is that ruins that joke for me. Right. [ light laughter ] seth i cant do that anymore. You also are doing the bronx tale, a bronx tale. Yes. Seth on broadway. Yes, i codirected it with jerry zaks. Jerry really did the heavy lifting. But, yes, we did, we did it. Seth and i always thought it would be a terrific musical, so. Seth and is that something from the very beginning that when you how long after you, sort of, conceived it as a the film . Did you think i, well, i thought a few years, um, six, five years later, i think i talked to chazz and asked him if he would, you know, what about a musical, and if he came up with any music. And he brought some stuff that something somebody had written. And it wasnt very good, and i just sort of lost interest. And then, i realized that we did it about two, three years ago. And i was talking with Tommy Mottola and chazz, and jane rosenthal, and i was saying, well, chazz, we still, lets should do it. I said, bring that music i heard many years ago. Also, what is the and he mentioned that he had done something, himself. I said, well, let me hear what you did. And i should have i thought of it then because what he did was his own voice and was much more right and interesting. Though, finally, we were trying to figure out how to do it. And finally we went in a more you know, in a traditional way with alan menken writing the score and so on, and then, the music, which was terrific. But anyway, thats what we were trying to find another way with music, but we wound up doing what we did. Seth fantastic. I cant wait to see it. Youve been a fairly outspoken critic of donald trump . Its safe to say . Yeah. Seth yeah. Um. [ light laughter ] and hes aware of it, right . Id imagine. Seth hes noticed, yeah. He pays attention to stuff like that. [ light laughter ] you wrote a letter in support of your friend, meryl streep, after the Golden Globes . Yes. Seth did you write it directly to her . How do you contact meryl streep . I call her. Seth you call her. Okay, great. [ light laughter ] but i didnt. I emailed that to her, and i also emailed another personal from me to her. That was, like, a thing to her for people to see. Id like to send her another little email between us. Seth thats great. And, thats, like, oscar winners. You have each others emails. Yeah, right. Seth yeah, yeah. [ laughter ] it would be great if the oscars were also phones so you could just pick up and say, give me meryl. [ light laughter ] there you go. There you go. Seth i also you i guess this was was this the night before the inauguration that you were at a rally reading fake tweets you had written . No, was it the night yeah, the night before, yeah. Seth yeah. So you went on stage at a protest rally, and you had written some these are by the way, this is very likely that donald trump would eventually write these about you. Could be, sure. Seth de niros career is a disaster. He was passed over for godfather 4 and magnificent 7. Pathetic. [ light laughter ] de niro should give back his oscars, voting was rigged. [ laughter and applause ] theres only one true raging bull, and thats vladimir putin. See that . There you go. [ light laughter ] seth an extremely credible nobu. Thats a sushi restaurant here. Yeah, yeah. Seth and youre a cofounder of nobu . Yes. Seth because otherwise people would be wondering why is that a slam on Robert De Niro . Exactly. Seth a famous fish monger, Robert De Niro. [ light laughter ] yeah. Seth extremely credible source told me that nobu uses raw fish in their sushi. [ laughter and applause ] and the portions are small. Sad. One day hopefully youll avoid the real ones, but the fake ones are a lot of fun. Yeah. Seth its gonna be we live in interesting times, right . We sure do. [ light laughter ] seth thank you so much for being here. Its always a pleasure. Thanks, thanks. [ cheers and applause ] seth Robert De Niro, everybody. The comedian is in theaters friday. Congratulations on the show. Thank you so much. Seth and this show was sort of a perfect landing spot for you as an actor because you actually used to work at a super store in real life. I did, at a zellers, in belleville, ontario, canada. [ cheers ] people from belleville . Seth wow. Those canadians. [ laughter ] seth just shoppers. Just shoppers. Fans of retail. Yeah, i worked in a zellers, which is basically like a canadian kmart, or walmart. Seth ok. I spent two years in footwear and then i got bumped up to cash, which is a real feather in my cap. You know what i mean . Seth wow. Now is cash the selling of cash . What does cash mean . Its the handling of cash and making change. Seth gotcha. So you were in shoes first . Thats correct. How old were you in the shoe business. I was at from the age 15 to 17. Seth now, it seems like that is a skill set a bit above the pay grade of a 15yearold. You know, what was amazing was that a lot of customers kind of treated us as though we were a highend boutique. So, they would bring their children in and be like, i need you to size my childs foot. And im like, your guess is as good as mine. Like, im 15. I dont know how to use that metal thing. Seth yeah, just try them on until one doesnt hurt. Exactly. Until he stops screaming. Seth this is pretty great though. I heard that you had at the store you worked at, you had code words, which makes sense for over the p. A. Yes, so there was always innocuous code words in case something went wrong. For example, mr. Coffee meant a child went missing. So if you heard mr. Coffee to the Customer Service desk, you knew, uhoh, theres a kid missing. [ seth laughing ] seth also mr. Coffee was the local pedophile. Yes. It was a very on the nose reference. [ laughter ] very on the nose. Seth were there others . Oh, there was so many. There was code purple was a bomb scare, which i thought was nice. Seth what kind of place is it was like they were trying to push against it being serious. So its like code purple. It was like, oh. Seth ive got to say, when this started i pictured belleville as like this lovely place but now it sounds like a hellscape, where you go shopping, and kids go missing and people are constantly threatening you with bomb scares. I mean, that was the thing. Its that it was like, do we need any of these codes. Like, do we need code orange for like an acid attack . Like, i dont think so. I think its a pretty sleepy town. Seth i think, you know what guys, if theres an acid attack, feel free to get on the p. A. And say, acid attack. Thats fine. Youve gone through a lot. You dont have to cycle through whats the code word for acid attack. Exactly. Seth and now you were also you found your way to second city. Yeah. Seth it has a fantastic, historic improv theater, and you did it both in toronto and chicago. I did. I toured for three years in toronto, i did the main stage up there for two, and i did two years on the main stage in chicago. Seth ok so i have a lot of friends from chicago improv people, who were touring improvisors as well. Touring sounds like kind of lovely and it is really you stay in some real dodgey places. Oh, people think its like youre a rock star like, and it is so the opposite. It was amazing because we got to see parts of canada. Very rural, northern, snowy, canada that i would never normally choose to visit. But, the tradeoff was that those small, sleepy towns dont really have things like proper accommodations for guests. Seth yes. Or blankets that dont have fleas in them. So, i literally would like wear my pajamas tucked into socks with like a hoodie. I would bring gloves, even in the summer. Just try and make sure so that the bedbugs didnt come home with me. Seth those are lovely. That sounds like lovely accommodations. Right . Beautiful, beautiful. My favorite story though, was there was a karaoke night. And when youre in these small towns youve got a lot of downtime and theres not a lot to do. Seth yeah. So we hear about a karaoke night on our night off. Its like, oh, lets go check it out. And were, you know, theater performers so, some of us can carry a tune. Spoiler alert. And this one older gentleman took great offense to us being good singers. Came up to our stage manager, and he was like, i think you guys are plants. I dont know why im doing a southern accents because it was northern canada. I was about to say. Thats a code red, i think. [ laughter ] for an inappropriate accent. So yeah, he was basically like, i think the Karaoke Company hired you to come in here. And i was like, first of all, this is a town with a population of 2,000. How is the Karaoke Company such a booming business they can afford to hire six killer singers and truck them up to fort francis, ontario, you know. Seth also, you should have said, youre obviously the plant, cause youre talking like youre from arkansas. Exactly. Exactly. Seth and then you did main stage. So having done both toronto and chicago, what did you find to be the biggest difference between american and canadian audiences . What was amazing to me was, canadians love when you make fun of canadians. Like we just want you to just burn us. Like were like, yeah, thats hilarious. And what i learned about americans is that they dont love making fun of americans as much. But what they do love seth were even touchier about it now. Yeah, yeah listen, i get it. But what i learned is that the universal language is making fun of canadians because that works on either side of the border. Seth that kills, yeah. It does. It always does. Seth i bet. Im willing to bet you going down to mexico and it would land pretty well, too. You know what, i think so. Seth youre right. There is something very universal about that. Its such a pleasure to meet you. You too seth and congratulations on the show and please come back again. Thank you so much. Seth thank you so much. [ cheers and applause ] lauren ash, everybody. Seth all right, everybody, time for the weekly pitch meeting. Lets see what new ideas you for have for the show. Amber, were gonna start with you. Okay, this is a bit where buzzfeed reports regular news, like, a texas teen touched a downed power line, and what happens next is shocking. [ light laughter ] seth okay, great. Mike, youre up. Oh, i got a pitch seth do you . Yes, yes. I meant to say i did a really thorough book report and a comedy pitch for the show. Seth well, youre standing with a book reporty stance, so, already, im not filled with confidence. Just let me do this, okay. So, this is a desk piece, and its like e do do do cool graphics package. Like, maybe the band plays or Something Like that. And then, youre like, im seth meyers. Its time for a closer look on mark twain. [ light laughter ] seth damn it. [ clears throat ] mark twain was born in 1835, but his real name was samuel clemens. Seth stop, stop. I was trying to shoehorn a book report into a closer look. Good for you for catching that. [ light laughter ] okay, real pitch, we invite mark twain on the show. Seth mark twain is dead. [ gasps ] [ laughter ] oh, youre right. Seth mike, i never assign book reports, and quite frankly if i did, like, im concerned that you chose one for an 8th grader. [ light laughter ] im concerned your face is for an eigth seth im sorry. What was that, mike . Nothing, jeez. Seth goldich, will you please pitch something . I will, but honestly im not thrilled that he and i get paid the same. Thats it [ laughter ] okay. So, reese, can you please pitch something . Are they painting a fence in that diorama . Yes. That doesnt happen in huck finn. Thats from tom sawyer. Seth mike, after all this, did you not read the book . No, i did not. [ laughter ] seth i think you should go. I think thats for the best, yeah. [ applause ] seth okay, ben. Youre up. Seth our next guest is a talented young actor who you know from films like hugo and enders game. His new movie, the space between us opens in theaters this friday. Lets take a look. Tulsa, im not lying to you. My mother was an astronaut. She made a mistake. I was born on mars. Just because people lied to you before, it doesnt mean im lying now. Just because something sounds crazy to you doesnt mean its not true. So if you really want to get rid of me, you have to get out. Because im going to find my father. You know, when people that talk to me that way, they get their ass kicked. Try it. Im rocking this gravity. Okay, maybe you actually believe it yourself. Seth please welcome to the show Asa Butterfield, everybody. [ cheers and applause ] welcome to the show. How are you . Thank you. Its great to see you. Seth so you, as the clip tells us, you are a boy who was born on mars, comes to earth. And now, one of the biggest things there is the gravity difference. Right. Yeah. Seth did you guys work very hard to show as your character, exactly how hard it was to move to gravity . Well yeah, its one of those things we kind of wanted to make him stand out. So on mars theres 38 of the earths gravity. So when you come back to earth, you feel much heavier. And so we really played around with it like making the most of that. So id tie like ankle weights to me or sandbags strapped to my chest, and walk around and run around and see how it changed the way i did just about anything. And its so tiring. Seth yeah. Thats the first thing i noticed. I mean, of course it would be. And i had someone film me whilst i was doing it so i could look at the footage. Seth oh so fantastic, this is all just like before the film started. You did all this work. Yeah. Seth thats great. Rehearsal stuff. Seth its just such a bummer. Because usually when people are in movies and they get to be, you know, 62 heavier, they get to eat whatever they want. [ light laughter ] yeah. Seth but you just had to be the same body shape so you just had to like wear weights and stuff. Yeah, its all in the head. Seth there you go. And you did, obviously, it seems like in the making of this film, there was a focus on trying to get it scientifically accurate. And this is put to the test, because you had at your premier bill nye and Neil Degrasse tyson. That is terrifying. It was amazing. Seth yeah. Yeah. [ applause ] i didnt know they were coming. And i remember looking over my shoulder and i saw bill nye. I was like oh my god. And i love him. About 30 seconds later i look back to look at him, and neil is standing next to him. I lost it. And he gave me his card. Bill gave me his card. Seth bill nye gave you his card . Bill nye gave me his card after the film. [ laughter ] seth thats great. And he was like, good job. Thats fantastic. And youre still carrying it around with you. Thats a very good thing. Yeah and im taking this home. Seth what do you think has to when kind of thing would happen that you would call bill nye. Like what do you thinks going to happen in your life where youll say, i know who we can call. [ light laughter ] gah, i dont know. Seth i think you should do it for something that anybody could help with like, call him and say, hey, im moving. [ light laughter ] you gave me your card once, can you help me move . See if he has any any physics tip. Seth yeah, physics. Wait, maybe you have a couch thats having trouble getting up the stairs. Youre like, bill, im going to send you the schematics. [ light laughter ] now, are you drawn to science . Were you into scifi coming up . Yeah, im a scifi kind of geek. Seth yeah and well, i asked because your middle name, it strikes me that maybe your parents were as well. Your middle name is is bopp. Seth bopp. After the comet. Seth yeah. Halebopp, which was in the sky when i was born. Seth not after the hanson song. No. I dont know that song. Seth not mmmbop . No . No. [ light laughter ] seth yours is the better of the two. Thank you. Seth yeah. So you didnt know that. So your parents just decided to give you that. Yeah i dont really know. My mum was a bit of a hippy. She was kind of like, yeah asa and bopp. Like, why not . [ laughter ] seth whats the asa from . I dont know. Seth okay. Its from many different places, different countries. Seth thats good. Thats a fun way to you mentioned different countries. You play an american in the film. Im really good with accents, youre not an american. I can tell right now. Do you like doing accent work in films . Yeah, i think so. I mean american. Ive been doing it for a while. As a british actor, have to be able to do an american accent, pretty much. Seth sure. And i spend a lot of time in the states. You kind of hear it in the media and films. So yeah, i find it pretty easy. After a while, in fact, when im doing an american film, i stop talking in my own accent all together, which is i find its just a lot more effort. The british accent. [ light laughter ] you really have to just force every kind of sound and syllable and key, all of them its just. And american, it just kind of you dont move your mouth as much at all. [ laughter ] it just kind of comes falling out, you know. Seth we dont sweat it, man. As long as you get the words out, you know, dont make a big show of it. So i want to ask this. In films like hugo, enders game, you have played, this film, you played a lot of abandoned children. Yeah. Seth has that pointed out to you before . It has. It has. I dont know. I mean, i dont know what it is. I asked my agent, why am i getting casted as all these kind of hopeless children who are orphans, or have been abandoned. And its my face. I have an abandoned looking face, apparently. [ laughter ] seth it must be so hard for your parents because they did not abandon you and yet, your face goes around telling everybody else, like im on my own. [ light laughter ] hugo was your first film . My biggest film. Seth your biggest film. And thats Martin Scorsese. And how old are you when you worked with Martin Scorsese . I was 13. Seth did you have an appreciation at 13 you were working with Martin Scorsese . Probably not. Not to the degree that i mean if i had worked with him now i would probably would have got a lot more from it. But i mean he really did inspire me, i think. Seth do you think though it helped being younger maybe made you less nervous. cause it strikes me that the older you are, the first time you work with someone like Martin Scorsese youre put more on it. Like it must have been nice to be a 13yearold. Youre right. I hadnt really thought about that. But yeah. I can just have fun and come home and play video games. You dont really kind of think about youre working with one of the greatest directors of all time. Seth yeah. This is a very scorsese themed show with you and Robert De Niro. This is you are right. Seth yeah. Yeah. Seth and de niro, de niro, was far older when he got his first job with scorsese. Hes like, he wishes he worked with scorsese when he was 13. Dont tell him that. Seth yeah i wont tell him that. But im gonna let him know next time i see him that he is lagging behind you as far as career goes. [ light laughter ] oh god. Seth hey thank you so much for being here. Congrats on the film. Such a pleasure meeting you. Thank you. [ cheers and applause ] seth Asa Butterfield, everybody.
