Good morning. Im francis rivera. Across much of the country support for the family of Michael Brown. Nearly 200 protests in wake of a grand jury decision not to indict officer Darren Wilson. Early this Morning Police in ferguson held a News Conference after a second night of looting and objects thrown at police officers. We were able to seize a molotov cocktail in the area of Church Street in front of city hall near the police car. There was an arrest made regarding that. I have the actual molotov cocktail on the tailgate of the pickup truck. We also seized a. 9 millimeter semiautomatic pistol. Rocks, bottle, a socket extension. Looks like broken tent poles that were hurled at the officers, pieces of asphalt, small bottles filled with probably something you could drink, perhaps water or gatorade. Other small bottles filled with what appears to be urine. Our plan moving forward is to continue to make sure this grid is safe, the businesses are maintained and that people still have their rights for freedom of speech and protest. Chief john bellmar said police made 44 arrests, mostly misdemeanors, and four felony arrests including several outside the Ferguson Police department. The National Guard stood near barriers across from protesters. Governor jay nixon explained his decision to increase the National Guard number from 700 to 2,200. Altogether that will be more than 2200 National Guards men in the region. Lives and property must be protected. This community deserves to have peace. Meanwhile, in oakland, california, peaceful protests turned chaotic. Large groups of protesters blocked major highways, vandalized police cars and set fires in the street. This tmobile store was among several businesses looted. And in just about every city protesters called for justice by shutting down major freeways. A line of police in los angeles tried to prevent demonstrators from entering this freeway. Four people were arrested. A similar scene played out in portland, oregon. Police there used pepper spray and made several arrests. Over on the east coast in boston, some 1,400 protesters disturbed traffic on major roadways. In new york city protesters blocked major thoroughfares at the height of rush hour. Ten of them were arrested. President obama addressed the violence that followed the grand jury decision. To those who think that what happened in ferguson is an excuse for violence, i do not have any sympathy for that. I have no sympathy at all for destroying your own communities, but for the overwhelming majority of people who just feel frustrated and pained because they get a sense that maybe some communities arent treated fairly or some individuals arent seen as worthy as others, i understand that, and i want to work with you and i want to move forward with you. Your president will be right there with you. For the first time officer Darren Wilson is speaking out about the fatal shooting. I reached out my window with my right hand to grab on to his forearm because i was going to try to move him back and try to get out of the car. Im the one that was trapped. I felt the immense power. It was like a fiveyearold getting on to hulk hogan. Hulk hogan . He was very large. Very power full man. Youre a pretty big guy. Yeah, im above average. And were also hearing from Michael Browns father who spoke to reverend al sharpton on his msnbc show politics nation. They crucified his character. For people that dont even know my son, they probably wish they did because the things that theyre saying is just terrible. Its terrible. For more, Nbcs Jay Gray is in ferguson following the protests. Whose street . Our street. Reporter overnight more anger and more violence in ferguson. The Justice System again has failed. Reporter frustration boiling over. Something needs to change. I believe something needs to change. Reporter as the angry crowd grew, it spilled out across the downtown area and turned violent. Police and National Guardsmen in full riot gear led by armored support vehicles rushed in. Once again, there are those that are stuck on violence that embed themselves with the peaceful protesters. Reporter at one point tear gas filled the air. One of the canisters tossed back at a line of officers. Rocks, bottles, a socket extension, looks like broken tent poles that were hurled at the officers. Reporter looters broke into stores. A Police Squad Car was smashed and set on fire. We made 44 arrests this evening. Reporter while there were problems, it was nowhere near the level it had reached just 24 hours earlier after the grand jury decision was announced here. I understand why our city is angry. It is obvious, but its not exactly the right way to go about it. Reporter a city fractured and still trying to find a way to move forward. Jay gray, nbc news, ferguson. This is going to be tough for a lot of you. Thanksgiving travel is going to be stressful today. A noreaster is set to nail the northeast. Folks could get three to five inches of snow. In the sky is military is helping out, it has opened up military air space for flights. Nbcs Wendy Woolfolk reports from chicagos ohare. Overnight all the Major Airlines canceled flights as a preemptive strike thats moving up the east coast. That is not good news when the thanksgiving travel numbers are up. Whether by air or roadway, an estimated 46 Million People will travel this weekend. Im coming from the twin cities, going to ohio. Reporter with gas prices down 84 cents since april, drivers will have a lot of company on the highways this year. I hate to say it, under 3. 00 its free. Reporter what isnt free by any stretch, airline travel. In fact, ticket prices are up slightly for this time period last year. People will travel regardless, those extra 50 or 100 wont keep them from visiting their family. Reporter but what could hinder the visits, the weather. Very happy to make it out before the storm are. Reporter other travelers wont be so lucky as a noreaster is forecasted to make its way up the eastern seaboard. Snow, sleet can impact holiday travel. Thankfully we have not started seeing those Ripple Effects here in the midwest. The airlines though, however, waived those rebooking fees which is just a small consolation for those weary travellers. It stopped in front of a gate with barricades. The suspect got this bright idea to drive in reverse, slam on the gas and try to break through. As you can imagine, that didnt work. Hands raised, the driver then decides to make a run for it. After a short foot chase, officers capture him in a nearby parking lot. Turns out the suspect was already a wanted felon. A wall of enforcers wiped through the campaswith pepper spray. More than 100 were arrested including two student leaders. An Ohio Attorney is accused of hypnotizing at least two women for his sexual pleasure. The women say they would lose track of time during meetings and phone calls forgetting what happened.
