For fire crews in the west. The beaver creek fire has scorched nearly 160 square miles. Its located about two hours east of boise. Officials ordered the evacuation of some 2,300 homes but have some optimism at the moment as more crews arrive to fight the flames. Its emotional to see our landscape changing and to know that people that we love could possibly be in danger. We need an army out there and weve got it. Hundreds of firefighters. I know they are doing all that they can. Some 90 fire engines are on the ground working to protect homes and businesses. The fire started almost two weeks ago. Its only 9 contained. More bloodshed in egypt. Islamist militants killed 23 policemen in an attack this morning and 23 prohaumd morsi prisoners were also killed during a prison transfer on sunday. The Obama Administration is taking preliminary steps to withhold economic aid there to egypt. Something many lawmakers are calling for. With the recent violent crackdown, i do not see how we can continue aid. I believe it must be suspended. The acts over the last few days are completely unconscionable and i do believe we have to change our aid. We should maintain our relationship with the military. Id be reluctant to cut off aid. Obviously we should use it as a bargaining wedge. Ayman is live in cairo. What do egyptians think about a possible cut to foreign aid . Good morning. The topic of u. S. Aid to egypt is certainly a sensitive one here. In recent days the egyptian foreign minister said the government would review the benefits of u. S. Aid. Some have been very critical of how the u. S. Has been dangling the subject of cutting off aid as a way to shape the governments behavior. There are other alternatives for the government. Since president morsi was removed from power on july 3rd, some of the gulf countries, the wealthy oilrich gulf countries have pledged 12 billion to prop up this government. So there are other avenues for the Egyptian Government. But the more important pressing issue has to do with the Egyptian Military which is equipped and essentially trained by the american military. And that is something that would be very difficult for the Egyptian Government to give up. The question that egypt has sustained throughout this entire crisis is that it is acting in its own selfinterest. That it will not be dictated to by any foreign country. It will not be dictated to by foreign powers. For the time being it actually has been able to push back on some of the u. S. requests, some of the u. S. demands for the situation here. At least how to deal with the situation here. And thats probably giving a cause of concern to a lot of u. S. Officials as to whether or not the United States is losing its leverage and influence over the strong ally. Richard . Nbcs ayman mohyeldin. Egyptian Foreign Policy isnt the only item on the president s list. He has a lot to tackle domestically. Melissa joins us from washington. Reporter the president has two major assignments today. Like most of the kids going back to School Across the country, first, as weve been talking about this morning, what to do about u. S. Aid to egypt and, of course, more about the revelation of additional abuses with the nsa. Some lawmakers are hoping the president will cut aid down the line. Others hoping we can hold off. The president , of course, took a break from his vacation to condemn the violence and canceled a planned joint military exercise but did stop short of suspending any aid. Another big topic, that nsa surveillance program, many critical of its legitimacy after an audit showed they broke privacy rules thousands of times per year. We know some hearings on the nsa plan for additional checks and balances expected to be initiated by vermont senator Patrick Leahy some time later this fall. Richard . Thank you so much.
