Kirsten was dead, stabbed multiple times and her husband rick was in the closet with her along with a knife. There were two phone calls between our agencies advising them of the indicator on mr. Lockett. Reporter Lincoln County sheriff deputy made a critical call to castle rock. They were given a specific address of concern as well as the specific information as regards to extra patrols. Reporter Lincoln County sheriff tom nestor confirmed one of his deputies distorted the truth claiming he called the Castle Rock Police department asking for increassd patrols. When you learned that the deputy in fact was not truthful, your reaction . I was shocked. Absoluuely shockee that those calls werent made because i was told they were. Reporter cell phone data shows he was in the castle rock area two days before the murder. It showed curt admitted he had been untruthful. He never made did this deputy embarrass your department . On monday, the jury could begin deliberations in the trial against a woman accused of cutting a baby from another womans womb. Dynel lane showed emotion in court yesterday. You can see it here. This is the first time during the whole trial. She wiped away ttars as the jury heard her interview. She claimed she had to defend herself and only cut the baby it seemed every time i would try to get leverage, it was just she would come at me again. I starteddthinking i didnt want the baby to die too. So i cut the baby out. This came as a bit of a surprise yesterday. The defense rested its case without calling wittesses. That means closing arguments are set for first thing monday morning. A mother of six ends up murdered. Our investigators find out she might still be alive if not for a significant mistake made by a deputy. Reporter this is a story about a murdered mother of six. Shes a good mother who didnt deserve anything that reporter about a husbands violent history. Hes in possession of a small handgun and is homicidal and suicidal. Reporter and the story connecting the dots between a critical phone call and a deputys decision to distort the truth. Did your office consider criminal charges against this deputy . We did. `nd i think we still do. Reporter months before the District Attorney investigated the deputys decision, Kirsten Lockett was asking for help. Hes in the Lincoln County area. Reporter rick, accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting her. He was a wanted man. He was wanted in connection for multiple felonies. Reporter five Days Later Police responded to curse tins brother kirs tins brothers home in castle rock. Inside there were wo phone calls between our agencies advising them of the armed and dangerous indicator on mr. Lockett. Reporter days after Police Officials told denver 7. They were given specific information as regards to extra patrols and increased vigiling lance. Painful . It is painful. Reporter the warrant confirmed one of the deputies distorted the truth claiming he called the Castle Rock Police department asking for increased patrols. When you learned that the deputy in fact was not truthful, your reaction . I was absolutely shocked. I mean absolutely shocked that those calls werent made because i was told they were. Shows rick lockett was in the castle rock area for two days beffre the murder. It also showed the deputy admitted he had been untruthful. He never made the call to castle rock. Did this deputy embarrass your department . He did. I will be blunt and say yes, he did. Thats when the sheriffs captain said their agency called the Colorado State patrol. and soon after Castle Rock Police directly. When you hear that . It hurts. It hurts. Your name and your picture. Your credibility. My faith. Yeah. Reporter the captain now knows he misinformed the public because his deputy didnt tell the truth. I thought i can trust him, and i for every intent and purposes i should have been able reporter the integrity of into question here. We discovered that we did not county. That deputy is o longer surprised . Im not surprised. Should that deputy be allowed to work in another department . You know, im not going to make a decision in that. He wont work in this department. Reporter he resigned from personal reasons. And the Sheriffs Office still does not know why he failed to make those calls to protect Kirsten Lockett. One could argue if those calls would have been made, Kirsten Lockett might be alive today. Tony, i dont know. I cant ever say that we would know that. Does the deputy have blood on his hands for what happened . No, i would say thats not my perspective. Ultimately the defendant in this case. Do i wish that those calls would have went out . Absolutely, i wish that. But they didnt. Reporter so now seven months later, you have a husband behind bars, six children without a mother, and two communities left with questions. Its sad. Its totally sad. I feel bad for her kids. It should have never happened. Rick lockett is in jail charged with his wifes murder. Trial is set to begin late they are year. Our investigators made several attempts to get ahold of the deputy, but he did not respond. We also learned after leaving Lincoln County he was hired as a reserve deputy. Weve been in contact with the denver attorney representing two paaients who say they did get hepatitis b after having surgery here at swedish.
