Thats when there was another encounter and were being told thats when one suspect was killed, another taken into custody. No officers were injured. That use that south side of to denver. But i25 might be the better greeley. This is the section in evans thats closed down now from 37th street to 42nd street. One of the closest is carson to get around it, a little bit to the west, where you can get to you can use 17. There are some ways around it. There will be a delay because of it this morning. The drive in town is not that bad. Drive on i25 at alameda looks pretty nice. No other significant issues and all the overnight projects in town have been picked up. Good. The roads look nice. That horrible shooting yesterday in park county left this man dead, deputy nate carrigan. He was a 13year veteran, coached football and baseball at platt county high school. We have Deputy Kolby Martin on the left, he is in the hospital, he was shot below the force 11 years. Captain mark hancock here was grazed on his ear by a bullet. Hes been released from the hospital. Martin wirth, you see in this video, they say he opened fire on the deputies when they came to serve an eviction notice. Entire community. That area. Tell us how the town is coping this morning. Reporter excuse me, as you can imagine this town definitely shaken up by three deputies, three sheriffs deputies shot just yesterday. I want to start actually with this scene. We went over to the house this morning, it was still lit up by bright lights, several sheriffs and investigators on scene. We were turned away by Law Enforcement because we were told this is still a very air active investigation. Veteran of the park county sheriffs deputy, helped coach football and baseball at Platte Canyon high school. Yesterday the community gathered here at Platte Canyon community church. Obviously a lot of emotion. Still very raw. A lot of hugs, a lot of prayers. Some faith leaders were on hand. This is a small community, under 9,000 people, many of the people we spoke to say they knew or know of many of the Law Enforcement around here in this area, as you can imagine, with it being such a small tight knit community and with carrigan playing such an active role. We spoke to some community members. He was just doing his job. You couldnt ask for better. We have great deputies up here. Hes with the right person right now, hes with god. Reporter i asked Members Community to leave their porch lights on in honor of the three deputies. One released from the hospital, the other still recovering from the hospital. We are also told grief counseloos will be made available at Platte Canyon high school today. Again, thats where the deputy was a coach. He also went to that school and was a wrestler, a long Time Community member, definitely gone too soon. Thank you. We decided to look into the shooters past. Turns out his criminal record goes back to the 90s. In 1994 martin wirth was accused of shooting and killing a man in fort collins after an argument over a chess match, but he was never convicted and the case was sealed. Giving eviction notices is always risky. A former Swat Team Leader says the homeowner is notified in Law Enforcement is coming. In this case, eight deputies were at this home because he expected resistance. They knew some of his background. Looking at some of his youtube videos, believed he didnt need to pay his taxes or mortgage and can defend his property with weapons which he did. Martin wirth was killed. Last month he made disturbing statements on facebook saying cops want me dead. This isnt the first time tragedy has ssruck the town of bailey. In 2006 a gunman went into Platte Canyon high school and took six girls hostage. He killed 16yearold emily keyes before killing himself. She was able to send a text message to her parents simply saying, i love you. Forced evacuations in the malibu area. Its burned at least 20 acres. They have about 300 kids evacuated from a camp nearby. Again in malibu. Shes out of the hospital now. The suspect was shot and killed. Now were getting a look at the other man officers say was involved and thats alfonso padilla. He has prior arrests that include an assault on a police officer. Denver Police Sergeant tony lopez is in the clear and will not be charged. He was shot several times during a traffic stop last year. He fireed back at theesuspect who shot at him. The District Attorney deemed the shooting justified. Another former patient at Swedish Medical Center has tested positive for hepatitis stealing painkillers, switching out needles that led to this scare. Lawyers say they need more time to determine how the latest patient was infected. You wont see a right to die law in our state soon. Iiwatched rescue crews get there. Three lanes under the bridge at 120th are stopped. Because of the bridge, we cant see the accident thats ahead of it and there are no good cameras between here and 136 or 144th avenues. We can see the backups that are just now happening and several lanes are blocked as police and fire are there. Take a look at the map, you can backed up yet to 110th, but will get backed that way quick. A lag in delay, slow traffic from 110th past 120th to that accident, where it sits now. Police are trying to figure out a way to partially open up highway 85 in any way they can. They know how busy this road is for the morning commute. Now both directions closed between 37th and 42nd. You can see the flashing lights here. Several Police Agencies on scene. The coroner on scene. We got video from earlier this morning just after this all happened. Heres what were learning, officers arrived on scene. They saw the two men, those men ran. One of the men turned around and fired at officers. Thats when police set up a very large perimeter. Then they encountered the two suspects again. One of the men fired on officers a second time, and thats when were being told that man was shot and killed. The other man taken into custody.
