Paving on the northbound side of i25 from hampden, yale to evans. One lane open to the left and traffic is getting by okay for now. Firefighters were able to save this house and others. The fire burned about 80 acres so far. This is only 55 contained. Authorities tell us yesterday afternoon people had to be evacuated near bennett and del rio. More crews are expected to be out there this morning. Dozens of cu boulder students are bei cant move into their apartments. The city announced yesterday the Sterling University peaks apartments arent up to code, so families had to find hotels at the last minute. Yesterday a crowd gathered at the building. Many we saw leaving with their pillows and suitcases. The apartment told them they had to go to hotels and would be reimbursed. When we called hotels to look im from texas. My family doesnt liie here. I just moved in. We literally just got our apartment finished. The apartment complex would not talk to us directly about this. It is not clear when the students are allowed back in. This comes as the university put in a request for new dorms in williams village. The building would cost 60 million and would house nearly 600 freshmen. The University Still needs to regents. Afr 16th street mall, like this one weve shown you before, there are private Security Officers patrolling the mall 24 7. Our Jason Gruenauer out along the 16th street mall. These folks are armed around the clock. Reporter they are. Theyre supposed to be here 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We got here at 4 00, and we have yet to see one of those private security ooficers. Yesterday. We had the rash of violent attacks, then dpd said they were going to step up patrols. And as we rrported, they had trouble getting officers to step up patrols and now the security guards are now here. This is allyed barton security services. They do not have guns, but have pepper spray. Were told theyre there for local ordinance enforcement. Just to make sure everyone is following the rules. However, authority beyond that isnt verr muuh. Were told from a spokesman in an extreme case of safety or even life or death, these security guards have been trained on how to make a citizens arrest. Were looking into the details of that. Because as a citizen, you or i could make an arrest. Wont be replacing police, but the chief had an interesting quote as to now that the security guards are here, what hes hoping to see or not see on the mall. Coming up after 5 00. A former Navy Midshipman is accused of posing as a teenager to lure girls and its not his first time. 25yearold brett butler, a boulder man, was arrested this week. He pled guilty to the past. This time he used social media to send and receive sexually explicit messages. There is more concern this morning about a man suspected of trying lure kids into a van in englewood. Police released a photo after an incident on monday afternoon. One neighbor decided to look at his own Security Camera footage and noticed the same guy sitting out in front of his house writing things down. Its terrifying. Ccnstantly, because people taking pictures, trying to kidnap them and lure them out. Police remind you to be on the lookout for a chevy astro van, black or gray, and hoping this video might help them gee a license plate possibly or someone else might recognize the person. Are the streets of boulder safe to hold triathlons . One woman, michelle walters, died after she was hit and killed by a driver at the event the time. Were hearing from triagent lets about their close calls. Michelle was not lucky, and i think thats one of the reasons i felt the need to outcry. This time, they come from two people called in to help end that. Denver7 investigators found adams 14th School District is facing a pair of Racial Discrimination lawsuits. Denver leaders know there is a great need for more Affordable Housing here. Now Council Members are trying to figure out how to pay for it. Mayor hancocks plan is to build about 6,000 Affordable Housing units over 10 years. One proposal would increase the property tax in denver and increase fees for developers. Developers worry the fees will get passed on to you, the housing gap. Committee members will vote next week, then its off to the full council. Magic johnson wants to be part of denvers growth. His company is pitching a plan to rennovate jefferson terminal. Things have really changed in this city. You have one of the Fastest Growing cities in america right now. And so as you see youve already changed downtown, and now that movement is to be really a part of that change. The plan is for dia to move security checkpoints and provide more shops and restaurants there. Airport fishes call it officials call it the great hall project. The department of justice officially announcing an independent review of the Commerce City police of heavily publicized misconduct by some police officers.
