We have classes still going and business as usual. Everything is normal business here, except for the Champion Center. We ha enforcement there, so avoid that area for the rest of the day. There was a 911 call, there was a man with a machete. The campus pro to pro to cal is to alert everybody on the Champion Center. Scott will tell you more, but behalf to the campus, i want to thank the Police Department in their quick action in resolving this and suring that no one was harmed here with the exception of the suspect. I whether turn it over to scott preble for more information. I just want to. The details here. The investigation is now just Getting Started so we dont know a lot of details. 9 15 a. M. This morning. An altercation started in the parking lot where one of the people involved bran dished a weapon and was menacing with it. And then we received calls. It was a joint effort between theebolder Police Department and they were able to track the person down with the weapon. He was not followwng commands and at some point we had to neutrallize limit the situation so it was no longer there. We dont know yet anything other than we know that suspect is dead. It is an ongoing situation and its now to the boulder involved investigation team, since there was a Police Officer involved in this. I have a quick statement from rick george, hes a Athletic Director here. He says regarding the incident foremost all students and staff are safe. We have safety pro to cals in safe and they were effective. I want to recognize the cu and bolder Police Departments for their swiftresponse and neutralizing them reporter was there any conversation between the suspect and the police . I will turn scott. There was a conversation, they asked him to put down the weapon and they didnt reply. Joint efforts between cu and bolder. 3 was the suspect involved with cu . Well, theres still cause and manner of death, youll have to ask the coroner. Any other injuries reported . No, just the suspect. Proximate age . I dont know that. The was the incident in the parking lot, the altercation between two people that knew each other or the other individual a person beinn targeted and else that would have been in danger . At this point, we dont know. We just know from the initial investigation pieces that, that is where it started. Any idea of what the altercation was abou not at this time. Can you talk about what happened between the uspect and police that led them to fire that fatal shot. Police with the machete . We dont know that. He was directed to put the weapon down and refused and 3 that time that the Public Safety shots were fired. Nonlethal methods used . We dont know yet. It was a sharp object. I know you have a lot of questions heres were still two hours into this incident. We have investigators here, a lot of these detail will probably come later today. We dont haae an exact number here. One went out when we got the 911 call and then one out saying to take protective actions and one all clear. Let me Say Something about the protective actions. So we cant give a direct alert to them, like shelterinplace. We like to emphasize, run, if youre away from the scene, run away. If youre near, hide, hide in a locked area.
