A state lawmaker wants to make it easier for you to smoke weed so you wouldnt face any fines. He plans to introduce his Cannabis Club bill this week. It would be a place where people could buy and use cannabis. Marijuana dispensaries in aspen are making some big bucks off of pot sales. More than 8. 3 million worth of medical, and recreational pot in 2015. Thats according to statistics from the citys finance department. More than 200,000 in taxes are going into city coffers. There were two months where pot sales actually topped alcohol sales. Were in store for some snow the next couple of days which could be a great helppto the Rocky Mountain snowpack. After a report said february was the dryest month in the last 30 years. The western part of the state was the dryest. Across our state, mountain precipitation was about half of what we normally get. We actually have some rain and snow moving through right now. But i want to give you some statistics for march. Direction. The average snowfall for march is between 10 and 12 inches. You remember 2003 with the big blizzard. 35. 2inches. I do think more storms are going to be coming our way, just like we have one with its sights set on colorado right now. Outside, we have cloudy skies and mild conditions. 75 is the record. So not quite that high, but our current conditions, around 40 degrees outside now, and our humidity level at 50 . The winds not bad at 11 miles an hour. It will be cooler tomorrow. Our highs will drop into the low 50s, well have rain for the metro area. Snow continuing for the mountains. And it looks like it will warm up again by the end of the week. Temperatures back in the 60s and 70s. Heres that moisture. We already have some of it coming in through the western slope. Down into southwestern colorado, and even a bit of but the bulk of the energy is still off to the west. This cold front into utah is going to continue to come in this direction. Theres another storm system dumping even more rain on san francisco, after all the flooding rains they had the last couple of days. This next storm is going to sink to the south, and it will not be coming in our direction. This one is headed straight for colorado. By tonight, well see that cold front enter into our state. Because of that, we had a Winter Weather advisory for the mountains for tomorrow night. Then we also have, because of the dry, hot conditions for southeastern colorado, a red flag warning for high fire danger. As this front passes through for tomorrow morning, it will be just through the western the mountains. By noon time, it will be into the front range. Thats when well have our best chance for rain tomorrow, unless you live on the eastern plains, then youre going to have your best chance for rain by the evening. Thats the progression of the storm as its moving on through. Well have the snow showers little bit of round about moisture here through the northern part of the state. Well get a little wrap around of it, into the northern portion of colorado by monday night, then tuesday, a little more snowfall, then everything clears out, and well start to warm things up a little more. I wanted to show you the future cast. Scattered rain showers along the front range, as we go into the afternoon. Still, snow showers up into the foothills and higher elevations. Beer is not sold for cu football games, and we still dont know where, or how much alcohol will be sold at the venue. A trending social media post has dog owners in mason county concerned. It claims someone is the area. Mason county Animal Services says its aware of the post, but doesnt have cases theyre aware of. It makes me kind of angry, because people love their pets, and i dont think anybody should be out there poisoning them. A local vet says she is also aware of the posts, but cant speak to any truth behind it, without seeing some sort of concrete evidence. Animals to care for, volunteering is a must. Theres my girl my baby girl. Dogs, cats, and critters, waiting for forever homes find lots of acceptance here at the foothills animal shelter. Were one of the shelters in the metro denver area. We see over 9500 animals every year, so its a really big operation. Reporter which means lots of work. No wonder the shelter has over 450 volunteers. I think in 2015, they volunteered combined, 33,000 hours. Which is the equivalent of 16 staff members. Reporter cindy cooper has given her time for nine years. I come in 5 to 6 days a week. In those nine years, shes put in over 7,000 hours just herself. Reporter after retirement, cindy quickly learned the advantages of volunteering. It helps others, and yourself. Sometimes i come in, and say meow. You can just tell that they appreciate it too. Before she retired, she was a nick u nurse, so caring for others has really been her life.
