The Pierce CountySheriffs Office got a call that a vehicle was on fire in a field nine miles west of pierce. This was just after 3 yesterday afternoon. They found a pickup fully engulfed in flames when they got there. After firefighters put the fire out they found what looked like human remains in the cab. The Nebraska State Patrol and the state Fire Marshals Office are investigating what happened. 3 a single vehicle accident yesterday morning sent one person to the hospital and backed up traffic for miles. This happened at about 11 30 near the riverside boulevard exit on southbound i 29. An s u v rolled lane. Trapping one person inside. Crews were able to rescue that person. Theyre being sued by the Des Moines Water Works for letting too much nitrate runoff from farm fields into the racoon river. Which is where the city gets its drinking water. Its suing drainage districts in sac. Calhoun. And buena vista counties. Attorneys representing the drainage districts are asking federal judge mark bennett to dismiss 10 of the 12 claims.
