Well find out why one defense expert says we need to spend more. If we really want 3 according to the u. S. Department of defense, the war on isis costs american taxpayers about onehundred27 dollars a second or about 11 3 that sounds like a lot of money, but as our National Correspondent jeff barnd reports. Foreign policy experts say compared to the costs of modern day warfare, its not nearly enough. 3 the United States has spent about threebillion dollars over the past 15 months to destroy isis. Its less than one percent of the department of defense nearly 600 billion dollar budget. [john hannah defense of democracies ftp politics folder john hannah 11 23 politics folder]this is a terribly under resourced war for our objectives that our commander in chief has set for us. Military analyst john hannah, a former security advisor under george w. Bush, questions the administrations strategy. Starting he says with too few dollars being spent on a battle president barack obama has declared in our National Vital interest [john hannah defense of democracies] god forbid in the aftermath of paris, if the United States were to be hit, the costs then would be astronomical for us to go in on the ground by ourselves to try to take care of this problem. Melanie greenberg, the head of the alliance for peacebuilding, says its not Cost Effective to just throw more money at a military response. You can put an endless amount into military spending. But unless you can change the dynamics on the ground socially and change the incentives for people to join isis, you are never going to come to a resolution. Hannah, now with the foundation for defense of democracies, is certain, if america fails in its fight against the Islamic State the cost of what isis will bring to bear will be overwhelming emotional as well as financial. And its now people. 3 coming up after the break in tonights healthwatch. What the university of Nebraska Medical Center is doing to resurrect a part of that program thats been dormant for decades. 3 hello. Im mark hyman. Many have been asking an important question in the wake of the paris terror attacks. How do we stop a similar attack here at home . The first step is to clearly identify the enemy. Thats not something this administration appears willing to do. In condemning the attacks, the president refused to identify the attackers as muslim,. Islamic. Or as jihadists. Secretary of state john kerry likewise refused to identify the perpetrators. Last year, president obama called isis the jv team just weeks before it began slaughtering thousands to include beheading american hostages. And only hours before the murderous rampage in paris, obama announced weve nothing to fear because isis had been contained. Theres more. The fbis National Threat assessment for domestic extremism makes no mention of muslim terrorists,. Islamic extremists. Or jihadists. But it does warn against puerto rican nationalists. Animal rights supporters. And even environmentalists. It appears the fbi never heard of nidal hasan, the muslim who killed 13 at fort hood, texas. The muslim extremists behind the Boston Marathon bombing. The department of Homeland Security has a threat document similar to the fbis. It also excludes islamic terrorism. Instead it warns of a Terror Threat posed by supporters of the second amendment. So ask yourself. How can we stop a specific threat if we pretend it doesnt exist . To comment, 3 a nebraska hospital is about to join an elite group. The Nebraska Medical Center in omaha will soon join fewer than a dozen hospitals that transplant every major organ in the body. As emily zinc szink reports. For the First Time Since 1998. The Nebraska Medical Center will Start PerformingLung Transplants. 3 at 6 months old Trent Allsman was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Ive been with these doctors and these nurses and this staff for my entire life. For the past 28 years nebraska medicine has been allsman second home. But a few weeks ago. He almost had to leave home. People travel all over the country to find the right transplanting institution for them. Allsman was about to go to minneapolis for a Lung Transplant evaluation when he received word that nebraska medicine was launching a Lung Transplant program. Being able to continue being here with those same people, yah its hugely beneficial. The news is not only major for allsman. But for other nebraskans needing a Lung Transplant. Those people now have the opportunity to be evaluated here and potentially be transplanted close to home where their family is available to support them. Andrea mayberry knows how important it is to stay close to home for a Lung Transplant. Being close to family and kinda potentially still having a normal routine is very important to help you emotionally and physically with the aspect of transplant. Mayberry received her transplant 19 years ago at nebraska medicine before the hospitals old Lung TransplantProgram Ended in 1998. I kept asking my doctor when is it starting, when is it starting. Years later mayberry gets her wish. And the Lung Transplant program is finally back at nebraska medicine. Im excited that theyre back to it and i hope they have good things coming, i know they do. 3 3 Boys High School basketball is upon us. Hear from some of the top players and their coaches next. 3 3 and the huskers have a chance to end iowas perfect season and a likely shot at a National Title. Hear how head coach mike riley plans to do it. Sports is next. 3 next. 3 3. Sports wouldnt be great if the only reason to watch was because your team was good. Because by any definition you need to have a winning record to be good. No, what makes sports great is even in a tough year, one where your team has fallen short of their goals, theres always something to play for. The huskers may have no chance to play for a National Title themselves but in the regular Season Finale against iowa they have a chance to make sure an archrival doesnt either. 3 iowas 110 start has been one for the record books. They currently sit in the fourth and final playoff spot for the national championship. With a win to close out the huskers they would be 120. If they win the big 10 championship game theyre likely in that playoff. Theres a lot of scenarios that could come out of any outcome in this game. But huskers head coach mike riley is simply focused a couple things he belives will be key in this matchup. 3 if i could pick two things id say weve really got to control the run and the bootlegs off of the run. The quarterback is very good. Play action. They are very good at running the ball and thats why their play action and i think their bootleg game is very good. And then their deep play action stuff off that is where you cant give them big plays. I think a big difference between the two teams if you were to compare us during the whole year is that weve given up too many big plays defensively and they dont give up many at all. So thats a factor. Offensively you know things will always go better for us when we run the football. Early on in the game against Michigan State that was telling to me. Ok that was then again Decision Making in the passing game is the next big thing. 3 High School Basketball season has already begun on the ladies side. On the boys side teams are still preparing to get their season started. Our friends over at sux sports. Com set up a metro area media day monday. Take a listen to some of the things the players and coaches are looking forward to when the season kicks off after the holiday. 3 last year i was more of a rebounder. More of a guy who worked hard, you know being a freshman. This year im going to take on more of a leadership more. Shoot the ball a little more. Rebound a little more. And just try to be our hardest workeri see myself as kind of like a defensive kind of guy. Ill work hard and go hard. This year hopefully improve on winning close games. Last year we had a lot of losses that were just tight games. I think this year well have a lot more experience in those types of situations. Were trying to get some tournaments together and play together in our fall league so we can get guys to play together who havent been together a whole lot. We are gonna try to do a couple Different Things offensively and we keep with our defensive philosophy which we never change but were trying to change our offense to fit our personell. 3 well have more from these teams on tomorrow nights thanksgiving show at 10. On the College Level former South Sioux City guard mike gessell and the hawkeyes are 30 on the young basketball season. Theyre fresh off a win in their first road contest at marquett 8961. They head to dayton for a thanksgiving matchup tomorrow night. 3 i think what we did best was setting a tone early. When youre playing on the road in that kind of environment its important to get off to a good start. And i think we really did that and we were able to carry that momentum throught we cant just hang our hats on that game. We gotta move on from it and continue to get better each day and take on dayton next. 3 number one pick Karl Anthony Towns and the timberwolves hosting the hawks. 1 1st qtr now check out last years number one pick Andrew Wiggins with the hustle and the offensive rebound and put back. Its 1916 minn early. Pretty sweet to have two straight number one overall picks. 2 2nd qtr now minny up 6 but the hawks coming back. Point guard jeff teague is going to put a big move on zach lavine. He gets the bucket and the foul. 3834 minnesota. 3 minnesota would answe though with some nice passing damian rudez ends up with the easy bucket 4540 minnesota. They go on to win 9995 the final. 3 3 temperatures to hang very near freezing through the end of chance of light snow into monday. 3 3 finally tonight, check this out. 3 just a few hours after pardening two turkeys at the white house. President obama joined his wife and daughters in serving turkey to washington d. C. s Homeless Population and area veterans.
