Matter of the things that they did believe and those things were fulfilled by Him There was also a matter of everything else that they believed that he was not willing to fulfill it was the rest of the things that they believed that kept them from acknowledging him as the messiah now they had more than enough time to make their decision concerning the Lord Jesus they had enough evidence to make their decision and for the most part they were not willing to believe in Him But during this early phase of his ministry he still reached out to them even though they were not willing to continue to seek him out and to continue to evaluate him he went to them and this was one of those circumstances when he attends one of the feasts of Israel we don't know exactly which one it was there has been some speculation concerning it being the Feast of Tabernacles there has been some good evidence presented to show that it was a Passover to me that's not important what's important to me is to see that he goes to them they already rejected him in a partial way but he still reaches out to the people when He healed this man at the pool of Bethesda It wasn't just a matter of him healing this man this was not just about him healing this individual and showing the mercy of God it wasn't just about that now in saying that I don't want to minimize the significance of it I don't want to minimize the importance of him performing a miracle someone certainly benefited from that it was an act of mercy I don't want to minimize that but what I don't want to do is I also don't want to neglect the importance of what happens afterwards this was not just a matter of the miracle itself it's what happened afterwards that is of real importance when it comes to the Lord Jesus being presented as the Messiah to the entire nation not just to this one individual so I'm going to begin in John Chapter 5 Verse one word says after these things there was a feast of the Jews in Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool which is called in Hebrew but the having 5 porticoes in these lay a multitude of those who were sick blind lame and withered waiting for the moving of the waters for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water whoever than 1st after the stirring up of the water stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was inflicted again this is John Chapter 5 between verses one and 4 now the angel of the Lord was there to stir up the water on occasion the angel of the Lord was there and he stirred up the water and an individual was healed of that individual was the 1st one to enter into the pool now what I find very interesting about this is that the living God I am confident the living God sent this angel to perform this healing at certain times and we don't know what those times were I don't think that was very important the issue to me is that the Lord sent an angel to heal people on occasion and he provided this sign and he did this through an angel the Lord our God did this now why did he do this I mean why didn't he just stir up the pool and then anyone who got into the pool would be healed why would it only be one person why would it only be the 1st person why wouldn't the Lord be merciful to more people and how long has he been doing this when did this get started and of course when did it stop why did the Lord decide to do this and do this in this way well it's my sincere belief that he did this in order to arrange the circumstances so that when he arrived as the Lord Jesus he would have a lot of people available who could be healed there would be people there who would be waiting to be healed in the Lord could heal this specific individual that the Lord our God structured the environment he structured the. I'm stances in such a way that he could perform this miracle in order to provide evidence that the Lord Jesus is the Messiah that's what I believe concerning this that the war did this for this purpose but it's a reasonable question to ask as to why he didn't heal everybody why didn't he do that well we don't know because he didn't tell us we don't know why he didn't do this but what I do find very interesting is that even though even though the Lord Jesus was known in the entire nation as someone who could be the Messiah while he was known in this way when he goes into the pool of Bethesda apparently no one asks him to heal them now this could be due to a number of circumstances it could be simply because this was early in his ministry not everyone would recognize him when they saw him there is evidence concerning this man that he did not recognize the Lord Jesus when he saw him that certainly could be one reason but other reasons may have to do with the fact that the people did not want Jesus to yield them that could very well be the case and considering the religious pressure that people were under because the leadership were not willing to accept him as the Messiah there were many people who may have felt it was more important to be accepted by the religious leadership than it would be to be healed and be rejected by the religious leadership there may have been some social pressure concerning healings that people were not willing to subject themselves to there is another circumstance or another situation that we should consider and that is that some people may not want to get well and I know this might sound a little odd but there are people who are sick who do not want to get well there are advantages that people can have if they are sick and they are not able to do things that other people can do for example if a person is unable to work because they are sick because they are disabled in some way. Then they can rely on the generosity of other people and through relying on the generosity of other people they may be able to acquire what they need in order to survive and so there would be no need for them to do anything more there would be no need for them to do any additional work because they simply may not have any aspirations to have anything more in life than just what they need and to just live their life in a very simple way without having to be concerned with the burdens that other people are concerned about things like work and things like retirement and what happens if they get sick and stuff like that if a person can find a way to live their life to sustain their life by not working for example and I'm not saying that this is real in all cases I'm only saying that this is a situation in some cases I personally have encountered people in this day and age who live this way who would prefer not to do things who would prefer not to labor because they can find other ways to acquire what they need just to satisfy themselves personally and they feel very comfortable with being disabled they feel very comfortable with not being able to do as many things as they could do because they probably don't really want to do those things anyway so I personally believe that there were many people who did not reach out to the Lord Jesus for healing not because they didn't believe that Jesus wouldn't heal them but instead because of the social pressure that they might have been under or perhaps they didn't really want to be healed maybe they didn't really want to be made well those are some of the factors that we should consider that could have been real back then as we know that there's plenty of evidence to show that s very real right now and so I wanted to mention this in order to give you a better picture concerning this circumstance that Jesus goes into this area he goes into this pool with the 5 porticoes and this place is filled with a multitude of those who are sick blind lame with a. Filled with a multitude and I see no evidence that anyone turns to Him asking Him to heal them even after he heals this individual I would expect somebody would have witnessed this somebody would have seen or overheard this but again there's no evidence to show that he healed anyone besides this one man and so I wanted to mention this in order to give you a better picture a better frame of reference concerning the circumstances that we have here so in verse 5 it says that there was a man there who had been ill for 38 years and we don't know what kind of illness he had whether he was paralyzed or not the word that was used was just a generic word to say that he was disabled we don't know to what degree he was disabled but we do know that it was 38 years now this is longer than a lot of people lived back in these days this man had been ill he had been disabled for a long time and considering the other evidence that we have concerning this circumstance it appears that the reason why he was disabled was because of his sand and this is because of what Jesus says in verse 14 where Jesus found him in the temple and said Behold you have become well do not sin any more so that nothing worse happens to you but apparently he was disabled because of his sin we don't have absolute proof concerning this but there is some evidence especially verse 14 or Jesus said that that does suggest that perhaps it was because of his sin now if it was because of his sin then there are one of 2 possibilities concerning his disability the 1st possibility is that this is the natural consequence of a sin that he committed and we don't know what that consequence might be and we don't know what the sin was but it might have been simply the natural consequence of whatever he did and there are many sins of people can commit that may result in consequences such as these and so I'm not going to refer to those in. Stan I'm going to refer to the other possibility and that is that there was divine intervention so it was either a natural consequence or it was divine intervention that put him in this situation that put him in this circumstance where he is disabled Now the other thing that we can see here is that he was here because he wanted to be healed apparently he did have an interest in being healed to what degree he really wanted to be healed we don't know like I said a moment ago there are many people who do not really want to be healed but that wouldn't mean that they wouldn't still be there it may very well be a convenient place to be knowing that only one person is going to be healed and knowing that that is the 1st person who gets into the pool they don't have to get very close to the pool if they don't want to if they're not really as inspired or is interested in being healed as they may let on but in addition to that there were many other people there who were in their same condition they certainly could find some camaraderie there they could find some fellowship there they could find some people who would be willing to accept them where other people would not accept them because these are people who would be seen as people who were sinners these people were seen as individuals who were under the divine judgment of God regardless of whether it was because of a natural consequence of their sin are not in general the population in Jerusalem viewed these individuals as being individuals who were under the divine judgment of God And so people may not necessarily have been there for the purpose of being healed they could very well have been there only because they would have other people who they could hang out with who were in a similar condition that they were in and so these people would not necessarily pass the same kind of judgment against them as they would experience if they were to go out into the regular areas there in Jerusalem this is an important thing to identify and that is that people. The need for acceptance and they are interested in being around other people who are willing to accept them now consider what would happen if they got healed what happens to a person when they get healed when you are there looking at a multitude of disabled people and then one of them gets healed How are those people going to view this individual who just got healed they're going to reject him or her this person is going to be rejected by the people there they're not going to hang around there much longer Why because 1st of all they're the ones who got healed when the multitude of others did not would there not be a wonderful opportunity for jealousy through something like that wouldn't there be a wonderful opportunity for envy through something like that they're going to see this individual as the individual who got healed instead of them and they're going to see that person as the person who kept them from getting healed that's one thing that you're going to have to consider the other thing is is that because of the Divine intervention in that person's life this person is going to now be viewed as an individual who is no longer under the judgment of God because of their sin so how are they going to be received by those people who believe that they are still under the judgment of God because of their sand well that person is not going to be viewed very highly they're going to be rejected also the person who has now been healed is going to see these other people in that context to say look all you other people you have not been set free as I have been you are not as holy and righteous as I am that's another attitude that some people can easily have and so to be healed can have serious consequences to your fellowship to your relationships to your position in society to the means by which you make a living you may not. Be able to make as much money by begging any more things like that there can be some serious consequences when someone is healed and so this man had been there for 38 years and we can consider that to be a long time and he can consider that to be a long time also but you know what after all this time I am very confident that he found a way to live with the circumstances that he was in that he found a way to get along especially to get along for that long he found a way to survive and to survive reasonably well continuing in John Chapter 5 Verse 6 it says When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition he said to him Do you wish to get well now what kind of a question is that after this man had been disabled for 38 years somebody comes up to him and ask Sam do you want to get well now again that can be a very appropriate question considering everything that I just described and not saying that to speculate on what people were thinking or feeling or how they were living back then I'm saying that also on the basis of what I see today that today we have many people around us who are just like I described but not everyone really wants to get well it's a legitimate question it's a reasonable question in verse 7 the sick man answered him Sir I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up but while I am coming in and the other steps down before me well that shouldn't be too difficult considering the multitude of people who are there that shouldn't be too difficult for someone to get in there before he does necessarily but the fact is that Jesus asked him if he wanted to be made well and the man didn't answer his question listen to me for a moment he did not really answer his question. And instead he says that he has no way to get into the water that doesn't mean that he wants to get well that just means that regardless of whether he wants to get well or not he's not going to get well you see in his mind it's not really a matter of whether he wants to get well or not in his mind there is only one way he can get well and he's never going to get well he's been doing this for 38 years and he's not going to be able to get well because he can't get to the water fast enough that's what he's saying that regardless of whether he wants to or not in his mind it's not going to happen to me this is a way of saying that he has found a way to live comfortably in the circumstances that he is in and whether he wants to be made well or not is not the issue to him to Him The issue is that he can't get to the water in time and that is the only way that he thinks that he should be healed that he can be healed and this is just simply not going to happen so why are you asking me this question what difference does it make if I want to get well or not that is the kind of response that he gives to Jesus Jesus said to him in 1st aid Jesus said to him Get up pick up your palate and walk now that word for palate is actually better translated as Matt that was a straw mat that somebody who is not very wealthy would have that they would be able to sleep on it wasn't a regular bed like most people would have made with better quality materials the Lord Jesus just says get up pick it up and start walking now he didn't ask the man if he wanted to be made well in the context of Can I have your permission to heal you he didn't ask him in that context he wasn't asking the man for permission obviously because he just simply heals him he just goes ahead and says you are going to be healed whether you like it or not the man has no idea who Jesus is the man has no idea that Jesus. This is the Messiah and that the Messiah is right there in front of Him Jesus does not ask him to believe in him as the Messiah he does not have any expectation that this man would have any faith in the living God or any faith in him as the Messiah Jesus does not expect anything from this individual and apparently there is nothing in this individual that we would normally expect to be as criteria for this individual to receive the mercy of God There is none of that here the man did not seek out the Lord Jesus Jesus sought out this individual he sought out this man he found this man and he just simply healed him that's all he did and then Jesus leaves then Jesus leaves he doesn't tell the man and by the way I am the Messiah and did you notice because of the evidence that I have provided you with this healing none of that at all Jesus weft Immediately the man became well and picked up his pallet his mat and began to walk he began to walk but did he even say thank you to Jesus We don't know did Jesus slip away and disappear before the man realize what had happened we don't really know but what we do know is that the man did not know who Jesus was he did not recognize him and he did not ask Jesus who he was after he was healed he just simply got up and left that's what he did now when he left he now goes where well he leaves the area and I can understand why he would leave the area he wouldn't want to stick around there because if he stuck around there then he's going to find himself being rejected by the other people because he's no longer one of them now he's somebody else now he's somebody different he's going to have to go out and find a new group of friends that's what he's going to have to do and so he leaves the area and he goes where well he goes to the temple that's where he goes well would you expect. Just experienced a divine healing in where else would he go or where else would he eventually go but to the presence or to the location where he would expect to see the presence of the divine he went to the temple the place of God That's where he went now when he got to the temple again he had no idea who he told him but what he does know is that whoever healed him told him to pick up his mat and walk now if this is what he heard and this was part of the healing that he experienced he's got a situation on his hands the 1st thing is is that if he does not pick up the mat and walk he's not going to do he's not going to fulfill what the person said who healed him and so it might be that when he puts his mat down he is rejecting the individual who healed him or that the Lord used in order to heal him and if he rejects the individual he rejects the command he sins against that command he violates that command then maybe he'll become disabled again that is a possibility concerning what the man might have been thinking and why he would have been motivated to go ahead and pick up his mat and walk but the problem is that it's the Sabbath day and if somebody sees him walking around with his mat they might accuse him of violating the Sabbath law Now I personally can understand why he would pick up the mat and walk 1st of all because he was healed by someone who told him to do that and so it would be better to sin against the fairest Caesar to sin against the Sabbath law be better to violate the Sabbath law than it would be to violate the individual of the person who provided the healing so I can understand why he would be motivated to go ahead and walk around with his mat but that risk was not really as great as you might think because technically according to the Thursdays he was not really violating the Sabbath Laws. There was a circumstance that would allow him to pick up his mat and walk around on the Sabbath day he could have done that and when he was confronted by the fairies sais he provided them with the evidence that they would need to feel comfortable to be Ok with him walking around with his mat he provided them with the evidence to show that he did not violate the Sabbath law according to their beliefs there was a way out for him and he exercises that and so I personally do not believe that there is that much risk concerning him walking around with his mat at least not for him the risk and the problem would be who healed him that was going to be the problem who healed this man on the Sabbath day and that was the Lord Jesus because again as I described earlier this healing is not about the man at the pool at Bethesda this is not about the healing of the man this is about the Lord Jesus providing an opportunity for the people for the leadership of the people to be confronted with his messianic claims once again and I will explain this in the next broadcast. Hello everybody pastor growth are here this is. My guest today is. Galloway martial arts expert and always has good stuff to share with us on this program and today we're going to talk about wants versus needs Cal Welcome to the program My pleasure good we just recorded another show earlier you know I don't I focus if you realize but we do not broadcast only in Denver we're also on 13 other stations throughout the United States so. You know it's be it's kind of expanding a little bit this little radio program of ours the website the church like you to check it out one of the things that I want your prayers for is this mission trip to taking to Indonesia the end of October we are going to build a school over there preach the Gospel we're it's the largest mosque. I'm calling 3 in the world and just pray for me and for the crew that's going with me there are a couple of people going with me from the church and we are going to try and do good work over there also a phone number of here is 888-278-5082 if you need a prayer or if you need the Bible or any kind of a hail plethora church or feel free to call that number and talk to us. Today we want to talk a little bit about the verses needs and how to figure all of that out I mean you do martial arts you teach people how to sew the fairs and you teach people about fitness and. Exercise but you also teach them about the purpose purpose of life purpose for life why are we here and you told me that you felt this is really one of the most crucial questions that people have nowadays Yeah. It's kind of what I speak to people about the most and you know when I'm talking about parents. Are talking to parents this is one of the questions that they bring up about their kids all the time is kids asking why why why do we do this what's the point and. Talking with kids they ask me the same questions you know what is the purpose of all this you know going to school getting a job. Living this life that we've built up over these last few generations of what life is in our society is you know really just nothing that a lot of the kids these days are interested in and so. It's leading to a massive amount of depression in our society. You've got kids that are committing suicide at 9 years old because they are looking at you know the way that we live life in just basically seeing it as worthless. And so that is one of the things that I talk a lot about with parents and kids is really you know what is the purpose and discovering what that purpose is for themselves and really being dedicated to you know basically figuring out what it is that they want to achieve in their life and that's kind of one of the big parts about the need for us as one is you know most of people when they think about what they want it's you know what pleasure do they want to kind of fill their day up with or. You know what escapism they want to kind of fall into and how much they want to avoid their responsibilities and and things of this nature and so you know basically they're ones that they're going after our you know the things that are you know making them forget about their daily routine in their life and unfortunately the more you kind of want to escape your responsibilities the less your responsibilities get taken care of and the more you feel like you're behind the more you feel like the world is overwhelming and the more you feel depressed about what your life is in the more you want to escape it in so following those kinds of ones becomes a nasty vicious cycle of you know really just spiraling more and more and more into you know kind of depression and that's how you can tell that maybe it is your warrants that are that are causing the problems that you have in life so you need to this point 3 evaluating Is that what you're saying and that's yeah that's exactly you know when we are discussing the need versus want kind of a scenario we start with needs we you know are looking at in one of the way the I had an instructor ones that would explain it in. Idea that you know on the scale of life you have on one end of the scale you have your needs and on the other end is your wants and you know you're constantly balancing and you know bouncing back and forth between what it is that you need it and what it is that you want and you know the way he would love to explain needs were needs are kind of a consistent thing. You know most of our needs don't change on a regular basis most of our needs. Are you know pretty concrete and you know things that we can rely on so you know most typically people do their finances don't change on a volatile type of basis there are some kinds of careers out there where you know you can make you know 10000 dollars one month and $500.00 the next month so there is some volatility in some careers but most people they get paid their paycheck and they make the same amount every single month and so usually our bills are the same every single month. You know and so the needs that we have are you know we need to eat every single day we need to that's arguable but. I know you hear a whole philosophy do eating is a necessity we do need to put fuel into our body we need to drink water we need to sleep we need to breathe we need shelter to protect ourselves from the environment and you know the fluctuations of weather we need to pay our bills and and make sure that what we've committed to is taken care of financially otherwise it gets taken away from us you know we need to spend time with our kids I mean these needs that we have in our lives depending on what your life is and how you've built it up. You know chain. From person to person they are very you know consistent as as I listened to you in this program and in the previous one the 3 recorders for a national audience it seems to me that you are saying that the problem arises when people put. Their when people put the cart before the horse other words when they start trying to fulfill all of their wants and before they have taken care of their basic needs you know all of the nice that you mentioned they are legitimate but then you say all my neighbor has a Cadillac so I'm going to go buy one and at the same time you can still take care of your basic needs so that this sort of letting will set you back. Look like a successful person but you're not one Yeah and I got a couple fun little sayings that speak to everything you just said so you know social media recently. And I don't remember who the quote was by but I have seen this quote probably 10 to 20 times over the last week 2 weeks just being posted in different formats all over the place but you know talking about you know be very concerned about your character and not your reputation because your character is who you are versus your reputation is just people think you are and for the longest time people have thought so much about their reputation they've cared more about what people think they are than what they actually are and so you know there's a lot of people that live a very fake life you know everything to the outward view you looks like they're successful and seems like they're doing the right things but when you get down inside you realize that you know it's all of a facade that they are nowhere near the person that they're portraying to other people. And so their reputation is good but their character is crap. Versus being somebody that has amazing character and you know I mean I would say that most people that are really really good character usually also have a good reputation but you can have a good reputation without having good character and so. Kind of go into what you were talking about where the problem lies is putting that cart before the horse and that is really it trying to take care of your desires before your responsibilities is the way I teach it to our kids is what we call dinner before dessert you know every once in while you might be able to kind of splurge and eat your deserved before you have dinner but you know for the most part it's not a good practice you know ruin your dinner well exactly. Exactly the thing with once you know. My coworker went through vacation to Hawaii so I'm going to take a cruise even though money and I have a problem you know paying all of my bills so you havior the service but you mess up your didn't but you mess up your dinner and then when I break it down for the kids you know all ask him why do we eat dinner before dessert Why is dinner more important than the dessert and you know kids will raise their hand and answer in all kinds of different ways but ultimately it's because the dinner is the stuff that keeps you alive so you know you're getting good nutrients you're getting fuel that you the body needs you're getting all the vitamins and minerals and you know electrolytes and and the building blocks of amino acids in the energy from either carbohydrates in fact but you're actually getting the things that help to perpetuate your life forwards and give you the energy to continue doing what to what it is you need and want and and so. You know that is what dinner is and you know dessert provides absolutely no benefit except for it is. You know emotionally pleasing. It's not like you're getting great nutrition from eating a piece of cake it's just you know it is the reward for doing the right thing 1st and so you know and so this is the way that I explain it to the kids and that is really what the difference between need versus want is taking care of your needs 1st is like your dinner and then your wants are the icing on the cake it is the dessert that you get and you know it is your wants and your pleasures are not bad things but. You know there's a live a successful life it's all about making sure that the responsibilities are taken care of and you basically earn the right to get the desired or there of things exactly the right order of things when you're talking about physical fitness we talk about that the law here what is it that the humors neat you know I mean we want was Hollywood presents to us we want you like Tom Cruise you know in the movie where he's all buff you know this is what people want to pull abs big on. For women it's even worse you know because there are. You know and then all of a sudden they everybody wants to date to end when they fail in achieving it in 2 weeks of exercise you know they give up so what do we really need. Here would be again needs are always a personal choice they are a personal decision their personal choice and their own personal set up based on what it is that you do in your life. So when it comes to physical fitness you know what you need is you know much much different then I mean when you look at the movie stars and. You know supermodels and all these people there. Hugh Jackman. Who played Wolverine in all the recent movies with Wolverine in it for the last you know 1015 years. You know he killed the character off in the last movie I believe it was Logan was the name of it but you know he was done being the Wolverine character not because he didn't enjoy playing that character but he was done doing that to his body because to build yourself into that kind of a looking guy with gigantic The muscles in that low percentage of body fat is not healthy it is not a way to create longevity in your life it actually is a massive strain on the body. And you know having a little bit of. A little bit of fat on the body is actually how you can live longer and you know live a better life that's not an excuse. For somebody who is overweight and want to put any effort into exercise. You know 50 pounds overweight. But even the idea of exercise is a societal pressure they know you need to be in shape and look good like you don't need to do that if you want to be ridiculously fat and overweight and die at 30 make that choice in our own. Theory and do whatever you want in an extent. What I mean by a question of what does a human body need I meant as a you know in principle you know not not I know everybody's a little different and may need to. To really get to shape and be able to ride 100 miles on a bike you know but in principle for a human body to stay healthy and live a good long Hilti life you know you do need certain amount of exercise and you do need to pay attention to your diet and so on but not to go overboard like. So the way that I like to explain that is actually to reverse how we discover what we need by putting the want before the need so in your example do you need to go ride your bike 100 miles is there anything that you know in your life it was or is that more a walked it's more of a walk now that one helps to dictate what you need to do to be able to achieve that . 20 miles and then you know in so like for me you know I do enjoy riding bikes but I've never had the desire to go do a 100 mile bike ride. And I'm not an ultra marathon runner you know but I do have my own personal I love climbing mountains you know I love climbing straight up rock faces. Love hiking one of my goals is I would like to climb all of the $14000.00 foot mountains in Colorado before I die and so these are ones that I have these are goals and really a goal is a want goals are not needs these are things that we want to achieve and so you know when we really you know and this is another way to dissect it you can look at the true needs to happen in life and make sure that those are taken care of 1st and then once you've done that then you start to pick out your wants and you know like I said if you know if you want to be fat like ridiculously overweight and diet you know early and that's your want and you're totally willing to own it then that's your life that is your. Opportunity you do what you need. But if you do want to live a longer life you know but not everybody wants to live a long life I think everybody wants to live a long life. There are people who want to. I think. I don't think that people would choose to die young but I think that there are people that are unwilling to make the choice to live long. And so that and that's what I mean you can't have an out of balance desire you can't want to live super long life and choose to have habits that are going to make you die at 30. You know if you have the desire to live past 100 in your heroin addict those are contradictory to each other if you're addicted to something like heroin or crack or you know you're just smoking I even smoking right now people are always con they're constantly looking for reasons why you know oh there was that one day they lived 120 and smoke cigarettes every day of. Every night before bed and this is the exact wrong idea of the need versus want you know this is I you know I'm going to live the life that I choose and you know but I'm going to make excuses over why this is Ok and still possibly be able to achieve you know you're not. That's what we're really going for in the need versus want is looking to really sink or in eyes the needs of our lives the wants of our lives with the habits that we have and you know really taking control of what it is that we want to do and so you know if you do want to extend and live a good long life and not be you know full of dementia and Alzheimer's and and you know we'll chair bound is you know because to me I don't want to live a long life if I'm you know a vegetable and I can't. Actually Live life I want to live as long as I can while still having a very high quality of life you know if I'm you know sitting around in a nursing home just waiting to die in my ninety's you know you want I don't want to live beyond a 100 you want that in so you know for me I make personal choices that are going to help to keep my brain keep my body and keep me working and operating at the right level so that if I do live to 120 that I can still go do things I enjoy. And I think one of the points the theater making here is not just here but in general is that all of this can be achieved with a lot less rather than a lot more in other words I think your point is you can you can exercise less not necessarily more and still be in good shape if you also take care of the other components in everything else like you're telling me you're not spending huge amounts of time exercising every week but you're still in great shape as you have balanced all of these other areas and I think that's really where you're going with this and that's that's exactly you know when I talk about the need for us as want is is really looking at finding a good balance of what is it that you want to achieve what it is that you need to achieve and then orchestrating your life around that and so you know there are a lot of people out there that you know if you balance out your nutrition and you really dial in the amount of carbs and protein and fat and you know vegetables and things and you dial in exactly what it is that your body needs to operate at the right level then physical exercise you know there's a lot of experts who say you need maybe 1520 minutes of physical rigorous physical movement. It to you know still be in good shape low body fat percentage. You know and but if you want to be the Olympic lifter and look like Arnold Schwarzenegger when he won Mr Olympia then you know again that that's your choice and obviously is going to take. More exercise in and lifting of weights then you know just being in operation level. So you're saying that if you if you live smart if you synchronize everything if you pay attention to more than just one aspect of your fitness or what every thing is then. If you put everything into balance then your overall effort could be. To put in a huge effort to really achieve great results exam I kind of following Yeah and. You know the amount of you know a Americans are addicted to more. You know is one of the biggest addictions that we have in America is you know they we always need more we always need more. You know we need more food we need more widgets and gadgets I need you know more of a vehicle or. More muscle. And even even things that we do that are supposedly supposed to be healthy for as we get addicted to needing more and more and more and more of it more more fast being more. Actually And you know it could be but that addiction to more. Really comes from not having a defined understanding of why it is that we're doing what we're doing and when we are you know like I said if. If you're looking at purely physical fitness and you're saying you know your goal what you really want to achieve is to look like you know Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was at his absolute most fittest you know you're looking at having that kind of muscle development you do need more time in the gym and then it comes down to what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve that if you need to go to the gym that amount of time and work out that much then there's a tremendous amount of other things that you're going to be sacrificing that might be time with family that might be time at work to make money you know who knows I mean you've got to be the one that figures out that sacrifice if you want your diet to be absolutely perfect and you want to really dial in that nutrition and do it exactly the way that you you know are your body wanted to be done then again it comes down to what is the sacrifice going to be you know so I don't think you know when it comes to less and more I think it what needs to be what needs to happen is a conscious choice of what it is that you truly need do you need less or do you need more staying away from extremes that's what that's what this is a good thing not necessarily it's more of finding the choice if you want to go to an extreme in something then understand that that is something you want to go for and then own the decision of it and go after it but don't do it because you know you've been told by society you go after it. Is that a conscious choice it's a kind it's a living consciously it is you know for the for the most part you know people would love to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger but are never willing to make the sacrifice to go to the gym. You know people want to you know be skinny and in shape but they're unwilling to you know lay off eating all the. Refined sugar. So there is this constant contradictory behavior that is going on between most Americans and people in the world in general these days where you know what we want what we are willing to do to achieve that one is completely contradictory to each other I want to be skinny but I'm going to eat all the crappy food out there possible. If you have a job but if you do watch the documentary. You know getting high and using drugs like crazy on a Sunday night sorry night Sunday night and then 5 days a week are just crazy exercise in order to be ready for the next game and this is a perfect example what you're talking about needing to be top athletes in the world with the same time making choices that the destroying Yeah I'm definitely curious to see them get.
