Loving people remember Together we can do all. The preceding program is sponsored by light Quest Media Incorporated full coverage of the Rocky Mountain region with the good news here to am 670 k l t t k o t t h t comer City Denver and known him for at 95 point one and streaming worldwide at a gift from God and they bind us together they protect us from harm they motivate us to do good things but they shouldn't control us especially anger in fact uncontrolled anger could destroy your testimony hinder your fellowship with God and with other people maybe this hits home with you today or someone you know as an anger problem where you learn how to keep our emotions in check and put a leash on our anger in fact will look at Jesus and see his response to anger if you have your bible turn to Proverbs Chapter 19 as we begin reading about God's answer to anger once again here's Adrian Rogers. Driver of Chapter 19 in verse 11 the discretion of a man be furry in his anger that is a smart fellow not quick to get mad at the discretion of m a m b further his anger and it is his glory to pass over a transgression the king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion but his favor is as the dew upon the grass God's answer. Now somebody said that anger is an acid that destroys its container sudden anger is to be controlled that is if you're a person who prides yourself in having a short fuse you better be careful now when you're quick to get angry dear friend there is so much that you're going to lose you can lose your job. You can lose your friends. You lose your children. You lose your wife. You lose your health. You may lose a few teeth. You can lose your testimony. There's nothing more debilitating your Christian testimony then for the fact that you just fly off the handle Now the Bible tells us here that we are to defer anger that is sudden anger is to be controlled what how do you control. Well 1st of all you have to confess that now there are a lot of us who just we don't like to admit we're getting I'm a Christian and I am not mad. I mean we are sweet little dear little eyes now we can get angry because of course we can and so the very 1st thing we must do is confess it by the way if you repress it rather than confess it it will be all kinds of damage. Now that's the very 1st thing you need to do is to can pass it and then the 2nd thing you need to do you need to consider and you say I'm good. Now you need to consider and say What is it Lord that is making me upset look if you will in Proverbs Chapter 14 and verse 29 here Paul moment chapter 14 in verse 29 he that is slow to wrath is of great understanding. You see when you don't get angry right away or when you feel the saying are coming you just kind of confess it to the Lord and say now law and show me he will show you he that is slow to rad is a great understanding you need to add a lie what it is this making anger it so you don't go and have coffee. Confess it consider. This I can't control oh yes you can learn how to control Look if you will in Proverbs Chapter 29 and verse 11. Of food letters his mind but a wise man keep it till afterward. And you keep it. I mean no food just spouts off everything all wise man can control it if you will and I will talk about God's way to health wealth and wisdom so the Bible says that we are to controls. So we have a chance to confess it considerate. And contain it all right now look suddenly is to be controlled Secondly sinful anger is to be condemn it why do we do for Rangers Our Takes tells us to do why is it that we are slow. So we might find out whether it is righteous anger sinful anger. If it is sinful anger it is to be condemn it is to be dealt with harshly. It is to be repudiated it is to be repented of. Now don't treat anger unjustified anger sense langar as weakness it is not weakness it is wicked is the one thing that God will not accept for sin it is an alibi one by the way what is sinful anger Well number one is anger without a cause. Remember when Jesus said whosoever should be angry with his brother without a cause would be in danger of hell fire. And anger without a call. That a something else that is simple anger is anger that is centered in a person rather than anger that is centered on an offense. Simple anger is anger bad burns and desires were again all right sudden anger is to be control sinful anger is to be condemned now dubber and anger is to be conquered now the Bible goes on to say in our text look at it again if you will here in Proverbs Chapter 19 but discretion of a man defer is his anger and it is his Gorry to pass over a transgression what a glorious victory it is when we learn to pass over a transgression that is to forgive and to get old but some people don't seem to be able to do that you are not to be conquered by anger God wants you to be victorious now how are you going to do it if Chapter 4 verse 26 be angry and San not and let not the sun go down upon your wrath Now here is talk about stubborn anger again. When you let the sun go down upon your anger that is when you live with your anger your husbands and wives you get into an argument and then rather than meeting by the bed and getting right with God and getting right with one another you go to bed back to back. Anger when. You let the sun go down upon your right knee what you've done your open the door the old Slue Foot. To the devil what you've done is this you said devil come in and wreck my home let me show you how the devil works when you open the door you let the sun go down upon your wrath and you come in the devil has 6 steps but he's going to destroy you with this matter of stubborn anger that I'm talking about begin in verse 31 when to preach and for verse 31 let all bitterness one and rather. 2 and anger 3 and clamor for any evil speaking 5 be put away from you with all malice 6 those are the 6 steps 6 the number of a man and when you open the door to the devil you let the sun go down upon your wrath sudden anger becomes stubborn anger Let me show you what happens 1st of all he talks about bitterness here what is bitterness bitterness is that feeling of resentment when somebody does your wrong or you think they've done you wrong and you get bitter in your heart now the Bible in the book of Hebrews calls this a root of bitterness they were trying to give dandelion a you know you pull the tops off but you haven't dealt with that rascal because the root is them there and there is that root of bitterness and it gets in there and you begin to feel hurt now what happens to bitterness Well the next thing is the next word he uses here is Wrath That's step number 2 the word wrath comes from a Greek word that means hot you get all hot of battle you get all hot and bothered and then look at the 3rd step here the 3rd word is anger now wrath speaks of that which is only inside but anger speaks of that which is only outside and the Greek word for anger here means that which is open and outward it is outward hostility now has the smoldering rags that are in the attic of the mind now burst into flame . We may have been better for quite a while we may be doing a slow burn for quite a while and then just the right catalyst happens and then it's anger that's the 3rd step this is outward now and is active now and then that's followed by a number 4 clamor now the word clamor has the idea of being vocal being loud and maybe tears but most often he's shouting that clamor turns to evil speaking. Then when we hear ourselves talking that way. And that open hostility breaks out. Then we start to say things we never really meant. And that evil speaking does what. Malice no amount of says that's when you hurt somebody. Or if you can hurt him with your fist you'll hurt him with words you say Pastor that's exactly the way it works sure you don't need some psychologist to tell you God's word is already here to tell us exactly what the devil wants to do no harm is to hurt us to ruin his direct us to destroy is to destroy our testimony. I want him saying is this that sudden anger is to be controlled you have a chance to think it through simple anger is to be condemned immediately stubborn anger is to be conquered How are you going to comfort Well number one you must recognize I mean you've got to trace it back you say why am I such an angry person . And you've got to go back find out where that root of bitterness see because I don't care how much you pick off the tops of those dandelions those roots are there and you're going to have to get down to the root of the matter and analyze. First of all you have to recognize that admitting confession and then secondly you've got to repent now this verse says in verse 31 let all bitterness and wrath and anger and evil speaking be put away from you. Are you willing to put it away after it if you're not willing to put it away just forget it was not going to do it for you you can whine and cry and all of that until you put it away. The Greek word for it kind of metanoia means a change of mind means I'm sick of it I had done with it I don't want it. I don't want I choose against it and nobody's going to use against it but you. Now you must recognize you must repent recognition repentance and then repudiation you must repudiate the devil I mean kick him out you gave him a place and taking it back you can't have it anymore. You know mom are going to have a place in my. My life and in my home and in my family out you go in the name of Jesus. I gave you a place now I'm taking it back and the blood of Jesus Christ his claims that place and out you go out the Bible says resist the devil who was. Away from you kick him out put him out in the name of Jesus. And then did rely rely upon the Holy Spirit of God Now the Bible says here grieve not the Holy Spirit of God whereby you see you into the day of redemption that is in verse 30 the Holy Spirit of God is there he's going to give you the power to do what look in verse $33.00 to be in one to another tender hearted forgiving one another even if God for Christ's sake get forgiven you I tell you dear friend we'd better get into a preacher's chapter for We've got to get into a book of Proverbs and learn how to deal with this thing a stubborn anger. So I've been angry for a long time your husband hurt you sometime a long time ago and you've been nursing a fever and feeding by Greg quit it not worth it. Not worth it. I was saying here let's go back to our text again we are saying that number one sudden anger is to be controlled saying Number 2 that sinful anger is to be condemned we're saying Number 3 that stubborn anger is to be conquered and number 4 sanctified anger is to be channeled because you know is something that I want to call sanctified anger because you know that it's all right to be angry remember what I scriptures say there that I just read to you in a feature in chapter 4 in verse 26 What is to say be a day be angry be angry it was last time you have a baby that command but wait a minute be angry and sin no. Bait is an anger that is not a sinful anger at all giving or is sinful then Jesus was a center right because Jesus was moved with anger look if you will please in March after 3 just turn do it now. Mark Chapter 3. And he that is Jesus entered again into the synagogue and there was a man there which had gentlemen as you can be good and made. You can be good in May and you can be angry and sin not Jesus was moved with anger as a matter of fact if there are some things that don't move you to anger that I think is something wrong with you you don't want to move Jesus to anger was the attitude of these piracies toward that poor paralyzed man he was a man that had a deep need but here were other people who were filled with selfishness and pride and arrogance and self-seeking What did they have against Jesus it was not primarily because Jesus was teaching what he was teaching their problem was not theological It was personal why Jesus was doing was as we would say he was eating their lunch I mean all the people and bragging on them and following them and and preening on them and all of these things and they had the cheap places and so forth and now the crowds were going after Jesus and they were filled with a rotten n.b.a. That was their problem they were filled with selfishness. And pride and self-seeking and they cared not for people who were hurting. What motivates her to you are. What motivates the pornographer. What motivates the slumlord. What motivates good don't push or same thing cry so see they don't care about other people. They don't care how other people hurt. They don't care how other people suffer. They just like these Pharisee in whose hearts the milk of human kindness and courage will. Not tell you what made Jesus saying great Jesus got angry when he saw other people being taken advantage of Jesus got angry when he saw people insensitive in the face of human hurt. Listen sometimes we get the idea that it is love that keeps us from being angry sometimes is the love that makes us angry I mean when we see people that God loves made in the image of God being destroyed Abraham Lincoln. Went down to the slave market. In New Orleans Barry saw a beautiful black girl being auctioned on as a slave perhaps a sex object. Abraham Lincoln stood there tall. And gone. And he felt a righteous indignation coming up in him and he said to a friend that's wrong on one of these days of I have a chance to hit it I'm going to hit it and hit hard right you're saying. Martin Luther. The Protestant Reformation. Martin Luther said when I'm a great. I pray better and I preach better. As a little half pipe preacher mean Shani you weigh 220 pounds he said when I get mad I weigh a ton. I mean there's certain things that. Things want to steer you. Move. They did jesus jesus never and got angry when somebody harmed him. And never find Jesus retaliating. When people did things to Jesus he was not moved with anger. And he never got angry even when they nave into the crawl but Jesus was moved with anger a righteous indignation when he saw other people being misused and abuse. In our righteous anger. Gets Angry not primarily at the person. But at the injustice. Saying you are not primarily at the center but at the scene where you say no that's fancy footwork you can be angry at the sin without being angry at the center Oh yes you can you can love the sinner and still be angry the same Can't you sure you can. Sure you can you know I know. Because I get angry at me and I love my wife has. You ever get angry or should. We get angry all cell want to do as dumb as stupid but yet you love you as a matter of fact the reason that you love you is why you get angry with you. And it was Go love that motivated the Lord Jesus Christ Sometimes anger is love's clearest expression but we need to be careful you see that we're doing right to saying Good God Langridge's not getting even with somebody is not trying to do somebody harm it is a righteous indignation that does not sin and real godly anger pay attention now comes at the right time it is expressed in the right way and it is against. It the right thing is righteous anger is to be channeled I would to God that we would not just have so much rhetoric about the things that are wrong in our world but when we get angry about the injustices that we see that we do something about boys I wouldn't want to do that embarrassment. When what I'm talking about I'm not trying to disturb you up to act ugly I'm just trying to stir you up to act Christian. A beautiful way. You surpassed that's what we pay you for you get out there on a firing line we're behind you to the last drop your blood pastor. Listen Fran you get a city where people get righteously indignant as we're more all the laws on the books did you know that we get stared out about what is happening and we get angry at the right time for the right reason I guess the right thing and the right way. Sudden named is to be controlled simple anger is to be condemned stubborn Ingrid's to be conquered. Sanctified ng is to be channeled. God's going to help us. When we lead the love of God stirs and we have to take the stand for those who are being harmed and those who are being hurt look again if you will please him Proverbs Chapter 19 look in verse 12 if you will you not a Christian. You not say you don't know that if you die right now you go to heaven but you will in verse 12 the king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion but his favor is as the dew upon the grass. Now the king of kings is Jesus He's the lion of the tribe of Judah. You can face his wrath if you want to. Or you can have his favor if you want. The All the King's favor by did do on The Morning Grind. Sweet gentle loving for defying a life giving you can have it. Only saved today not face the wrath of God became friends are where you can be saved by receiving Christ as your personal Savior and Lord listen to me Friend you're not going to be able to conquer anger or anything else until you have Christ on the inside is not big real the devil you need it is the victor of the devil the Lord Jesus Christ and having Christ only inside and you know whatever you feel with his watch spills out when you're jostling that right. If you want to what you feel with to see what spills out when you do also if you feel with Jesus somebody Joss's you Jesus is going to spill out so all is to a friend about now you need to be say born again born from above. Living a virtuous life means more than just hoping to please God It means living in a way that truly honors him how do you do that today on turning point Dr David Jeremiah share some practical biblical tools to help you build virtue into every step of your Christian walk. As he continues his series in 2nd Peter everything you need Here's David with the conclusion of his message moral excellence we are so glad you joined us today and I am so excited because tonight we're finishing up our tour I'm not excited there were finishing it decided that we're finishing it in a very special place Columbus Ohio just a few miles from where I grew up Cedar Hill College and cedar below Heigho you can almost see Columbus from there and I've been there many times and to come back to our old stomping ground and to Columbus Ohio for events like this very special we're going to be in the Nationwide Arena tonight if you have tickets you already know everything you need to know about what time it starts many of you are volunteering to help us and we need you to be there a bit early really have a great night together as we conclude our everything you need fall tour Columbus Ohio Nationwide Arena what if I don't have a ticket come anyway we'll find a way we'll get you in you can be a part of tonight as we come to Columbus Ohio to share the Gospel and to celebrate everything that God is doing in our lives we hope you'll come and be with us now we're having a great time studying this passage from 2nd Peter chapter one hard to believe you can preach 10 messages from these few verses but every single message is a challenge to our lives and we're about ready to finish what we started yesterday as we're basically talking about virtue we've called this message of moral excellence how can we monitor the virtue in our lives in this. Very very difficult culture in which we live where everything is poised to take us in the wrong direction how can we live for God How can we keep our minds in our hearts pure How can we be virtuous people that's the essence of the teaching today so get ready and follow along as we open our Bibles together. Ladies and gentlemen you can't talk about the biblical quality of virtue without dealing with moral and sexual purity when you diligently add to your faith a virtue that includes incorporating God's model for your sexual conduct and other words it doesn't matter if you're a Christian whether you are living a morally clean life it doesn't matter you will not hear God look down on your life if you're living with somebody you're not married to or involved in some sort of relationship that's not pleasing to God he's not going to say I'm well pleased I'm going to do that you've got to follow the rules and there are some rules are there not you know what it's not I didn't make them God made them and since he's the creator of the earth he has a right to make any rules he wants and let me tell you what I've discovered whatever rules God makes there for our good for His glory and for our good he doesn't tell us not to do something or to do something unless it's for our benefit So let's talk about this for just a few moments I read a book by Randy Al corn who's a friend of mine he wrote in his book about a man named Eric Harry came to see him one day and flopped down into a chair and said I'm really mad at God Randy was surprised because he knew or grew up in a Christian home marry a Christian girl and he asked Eric why he was mad a gun and Eric said because last week I committed adultery Randy absorb that and then he ask I can see why God might be bad at you but why are you planning. And Eric answered listening to this that for several months he had battled a strong mutual attraction with a woman at work and he had prayed that God would keep him from immortality but Eri gave him and I was theory as with God for letting him yield to temptation so I'm going to show you what my friend Randy of corn did. I think I can do this here he asked this young man if he had asked his wife to pray for him during this time of temptation and he had not done that yes we've taken any definite steps to avoid this woman and of course he hadn't. So there was this big book lying on the desk where they were talking and I'm going to use my bible is not this respectful so watch this Randy took his hand and he started pushing this book across the desk as watched the book came closer and closer to the edge and Randy prayed aloud all Lord please keep the book from falling but as he kept pushing the book and God did not suspend the laws of gravity the book fell to the floor with a loud crash. Randy looked at Eric and he said I'm mad at God. I ask him to keep my book from falling but he let me down. Every day Christian men and women forfeit future happiness for the sake of temporary sexual activity Randy wrote with every little glance that fuels our lust we push ourselves closer and closer to the edge and sooner or later gravity takes over and brings us crashing down in defeat. How can you stay away from that we're going to talk about that in just a moment but let me just tell you. It's one of the biggest problems we have in the church today the standards that used to mark what it meant to be Christian when it comes to sexuality have been so blurred by the culture in which we live that a lot of Christians have found a way to justify not living according to the standards of gods and I've actually read books that actually have given permission for this under the guise that it's Ok by the Bible but it's not Ok the Bible says God forgives all of our sins he does but he also goes out of his way to point out that sins against the body are especially offensive to him and there's a lot of reasons for that that we could talk about rather than going into why people fail and why it happens and what's going on in your church in my church and around the world let me just give you 5 things that I think might be healthy to all of us is to put down in our little book Here's how you deal with this issue which is so pressing in our culture today and this even extends to pornography and other things that are involved in this whole discussion so here are my 5 things number one fear your heart's with Jesus and you say oh well that's probably what I would have expected so your heart's with Jesus. Make it the greatest ambition of your life to please God if you're inflamed with that motivation it's much harder to fall into sin. To overcome sin in temptation fill your heart with Jesus God made you he loves you he sent Christ to die for you he wants a daily relationship with you he wants to bless you he has a purpose for your life which is greater than anything you can imagine he's built on a home for you in heaven why would you not want to please him more than anything else in the world believe me that motivation is your greatest path to holiness fall in love with Jesus so much that you'd never want to do anything to hurt him I remember when The Passion of the Christ came out your member that movie that came out of such an amazing film I was invited to go and watch one of the 1st showings of the film it was at Preston where Baptist Church. In Dallas Texas and I wanted my staff to go along and so we actually chartered a plane and we all went to Dallas to go watch the film and we were going to have a little staff meeting on the way home to use the time well we had some things to talk about I had no idea what I was getting into but that film just you know if you saw it broke my heart I cried through half of it and when we got back on the plane and I don't ever forget it nobody said a word it was totally quiet there were going to be no meeting that night. All I heard was a few sniffles here and there as people reflected on what they had seen in the portrayal of the terrible beatings that Jesus got before he went to the cross your members that and I tell you what I remember and this is special to this moment I remember praying that night on the way home or. I can't believe what you did for me Help me Help me Lord never to do anything to hurt your heart what a prayer that is for all of us pray that God will help you never to do anything to hurt his heart to hurt the heart of his Son the Lord Jesus I mean if that's not the great motivation for living a holy life I don't know what is it's not about the dues and the don'ts and this is not right and that's not right what it is is about your love for God It's about your desire to do that which pleases God a breeze joy to his heart so that he can look out at you and say this is my beloved son and humble pleased in him and me you won't have to Taishan it doesn't mean you won't have struggles but if you fall in love with Jesus and you make him your great love that will overcome so much of what goes on in the world today Number 2 I feel your mind with Scripture. We give you the science lesson here do you know what the Archimedes' Principle is according to historical tradition. There was this ancient king who ask the famous great scientist inventer Archimedes to determine if the local Goldsmith had to see fully included materials other than gold in his golden royal crown well Archimedes couldn't figure out how to do this but he came up with this idea that gold weighs a certain amount so one day he was taking a bath and he submerged himself in the tub and water overflowed into the floor Archimedes realized that any object immersed in a fluid is acted upon by an upward force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. In other words the principle of displacement that gave him the formula for resolving the question about the Crown and you can figure that out later in spiritual terms what this means is this when you take the Bible and you submerge it into your brain it has a way of displacing other thoughts and this pleases God one way of accomplishing this submersion is by meditating on passages like the one in 1st this slow news for here's what you know if you know anything that no 2 objects can occupy the same space so you don't hear people say well I'm going to get up tomorrow I'm going to start and they are not going to think these thoughts I'm not going to think these thoughts on you what happens when you do that you think I'm way more than you ever thought you would more than you did the day before you don't replace evil thoughts by determining not to think evil thoughts you replace evil thoughts by filling your mind with the Scripture and as you begin to do that it pushes the evil thoughts out it's the Archimedes' Principle and spiritual terms and it works but you've got to work at it you've got to determine that that's what you're going to do. Here's a 3rd thing this is really interesting fill your routines with the rules. People don't like rules anymore did you know that have you noticed that I mean one of the got all kinds of names for people that have rules but you know the Bible is filled with rules not all of them are easy to follow but as I said before they're all for our good and for God's glory. Somebody will say well I don't want rules that will make me illegal list he but without rules no classroom could operate no city streets would work I'd hate to be in the York City in Times Square if there weren't any rules it seems like it's that way most of the time anyway but if you're down there and there's no lights and there's no rules and there's no policeman can you imagine the chaos. If everything and everyone else in the world needs some rules don't you think we might need some too. Early in his ministry after seeing a number of prominent evangelists fall into sexual sin Dr Billy Graham decided he would never be left alone with a woman who was not his wife. The decision became known as the Billy Graham rule that's true he was not only protecting himself against temptation he was protecting himself against the possibility of untrue statements or slanderous accusations. The Billy Graham rule is a rule that has been brought into today's culture because some people now call it the Mike Pence rule because he came out and made the same statement that he would never be alone with a woman who was not his wife under any circumstances some of the guys who used to work for Billy Graham and did some of his security told me that when he would go to a hotel they would go into the elevator 1st in Billy Graham would not right up in an elevator if the only other companion was a woman he would wait till the next elevator he go get a buddy but he would walk and they would go to his room before he checked in and going to check his room like they do for political people today you say well this is kinda silly I want to tell you. I've practiced that rule my whole life. And it's one of the ways you honor and love your wife and I tell our guys that work for us you know we have a restaurant in our church now we built a building a couple years ago and it has really cool restaurant where people come from the church and between services they come and eat and our staff guys have a lot of meetings there and it be really easy for one of our staff guys to go in there are some woman in this class and would be anything wrong but I won't let them do it if I see you in there and you're sitting in a room and you're sitting at a table it's just you and another woman and she's not your wife you are in big trouble don't do it and say the same thing to the women you say Well Pastor Jeremiah that is so old and stale and it's certainly not the way the world works today you know what I don't care. If we're going to be godly people we're going to have to put some fences around our lives you say well I'm never going to be tempted by that well let me tell you what if you don't ever do it you'll never be tempted right don't put yourself in the way of presumption I had a guy come to me some years ago and he was in the same situation and he said that he was infatuated with this gal the work next to him in their place of work and he said May I tell you what he said patch I'm trying everything he said I don't want to do it I just don't know if I said well let me give you a thought he said as I said quit your job and get another one and he goes Are you kidding me I said well you can quit your job or quit your marriage you make the choice. And he wouldn't do it of course that was a big deal for him to do that how much do you really care about your own virtue if you care about your virtue they're going to be some things you don't do some places you don't go some situations you don't put yourself in why would you do that why would you tempt the Lord God So I'm just here to tell you if you want to be a virtuous person you've got to be some rules some routines Otherwise you're just be no different than anybody else in the world. Because we live in a world right now where there's more temptation than there's ever been in our culture and more and we transport it right into our homes in a little thing called the phone. And you've got to take some special action to protect yourself if you care you will make some rules. The disciples of Jesus seek virtue we have to be people to build fences and set rules and establish boundaries and establish lifestyles we have some rules for yourself and we have some rules for your internet use and standards and practices and dating and what you do when you're traveling alone on business through these issues you establish guardrails for your life fill your heart when Jesus fill your mind with scripture fill your routines with rules and fill your friendships with accountability. In the Bible we're told that we have been given everything we need for life and godliness. And it's a wonderful thing when you see this in our churches it's Shadow Mountain now we have a huge network of small groups and I was a little bit resistant to small groups when they 1st became popular but I realize now you know if you have a big church you've got to grow small in the way you grow small as they're small groups and they can hold you accountable you can talk to each other you can share the challenges you have you can ask for prayer you can ask for help and so if you have a close friend you trust make a pact with that friend hold each other accountable to live your life in a holy way fill your heart with Jesus. Fill your mind with scripture fill your routines with rules fill your friendships with accountability and fill your soul with resolve let me leave you with this general suggestion do whatever it takes the magnetic lure of temptation is hitting all of us including our children it's harder than any other time in history because of the combination of sexual freedom and electronic access but let me remind you there was a young man once whose name was Daniel who purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself and there was another young man named Joseph who ran out of Potter 1st house even as she was trying to snatch the clothes off of his body because he knew he was better off without his coat than without his character and Joseph went to prison for that but God honored. If you think if you think Paul and Peter and these other people are hard on sexual sin you want to hear what Jesus take on this is there you go if you're right i causes you to send pluck it out and cast it from you and if your right hand cause you to sin cut it off and cast it from you you say did Jesus say that he did did he mean it well probably not exactly like it was read but what he was saying was that don't let anything get in the way of your being the person God wants you to be take whatever action you have to take but be resolved by the grace of God I am not going to be a. I am a victor in Jesus Christ and I'm going to live that way. And then we learn also in these passages that Bill the thing we got to do is love our faith family you know. It's so interesting to me that when I was growing up my father was a pastor everybody just had the attitude that one Sunday can you go to church I mean that's what you do you go to church listen you're going to believe this is true I pastor the church in the early seventy's in Fort Wayne Indiana and there's a huge number of lakes all around Fort Wayne everybody my church had a boat I'm pretty sure of it but so many of our people they would go to the lake on Friday night and they would stay there all Saturday but they would drive home so they wouldn't miss church on Sunday I live in California now and when I tell them that they just look at me like you kidding me nobody does that church used to be a priority for all of us we used to believe that if you missed church you put yourself at risk and church now is like you know in California people go to church 2 out of 5 Sundays even the good Godly people they go to church 2 out of 5 Sundays some of the better ones go 3. When I was growing up we went to church every week we never missed and it wasn't just Sunday morning it was Sunday night and Wednesday night too and anything else they want to throw in there I tell everybody I had a drug problem when I was growing up I was drug to church every time the door opened. But that's the way it was and now we've gone clear to the other extreme church is sort of optional. And we're missing the blessing of the church and it's having a charitable effect upon our culture the church was meant to be God's place of encouragement for his people where you heard the word of God and where you were strengthened in the things of the Lord. Well that's what I want to tell you about virtue that's what I want to all to learn today the Bible says and add to your faith virtue there's something for us to do about that that's not going to just happen to us automatically when you become a Christian you don't automatically become a virtuous person God gives you everything you need to be virtuous but he expects you to take what he gives you and put it into practice and all of us have assignments when it comes to that in the last several decades the gospel has spread to many tribal areas and Papa New Guinea and there's a song that rings out from the new churches the words say you don't know me I don't know you but Jesus brings us together they sing that song in public again all the time of course. Our love for each other isn't limited to other believers God loves the whole world and so do we but here and 1st that's things for Paul is emphasizing the common magnetic love that brings us together is followers of Christ so let me just leave this discussion with us all today I don't know what church you go to I hope you go to church if you listen to turning point you know I believe this passionately Every Friday I say to everybody make sure you go to church on Sunday don't use turning point Radio and Television is an excuse to stay home we are not your church we can never be your church when we go to rallies and we take an offering I often say this if you belong to a local church that's where your tie that goes don't give us your tithes we don't want that doesn't belong to us and belongs to your church and if you have a Christian radio station that brings Christian gospel into you you take care of that if you've got anything left we'll be happy to take it. But we have to keep our priorities straight the church is God's priority and men and women were ministry of radio and television and all across the country and around the world but one of my great passions is to support the church and to encourage God's people never to vacate their place in their local assembly when you get home ask yourself what is my church record like how my doing with my church if you're not in a church you can fully support getting one you can but whatever you do make the church part of your life I look around here I see some people you shaking your head up and then you know what I'm talking about if we got the Church strong again it would help all of us deal with the issues of virtue that we fight with every single week and that's the message of the Word of God this is possible for all of us you know how I know that God would never ask us to do it if it were impossible it's not possible in our own strength but we have the Spirit of God who lives within us you know what his 1st name is his 1st name is holy the spirit of God's 1st name is holy and if we allow him full reign in our lives guess what will be holy to. Commerce City Denver the Crawford stand as Dawn Crawford president of Crawford broadcasting company continues to examine Bernie Sanders plan for America which Mr Crawford says is downright scary to begin with Sanders would switch electricity and transportation to 100 percent renewables and all of that by the year 2030 that would be like 9 years after he were elected Can you imagine the impact of that. President Santos would ban all fracking no more energy resource. Those would be produced from shale none at all that could be enormously costly for We The People centers would ban drilling of any kind offshore and on all federal lands but he'd like to have a crack at private lands also and that would even rate the ability of America to produce its own energy especially oil and make our great country even more dependent upon foreign supplied energy including and especially oil. Centers but also ban imports and exports of fossil fuels if your home or business is now heated by oil over and done with and President Sanders would cancel oil pipelines even those already being built and halt the permit ing of new fossil fuel extraction and to put an end to the entire refining infrastructure where ever he possibly could any or all of that would cripple our great country economically and culturally and this radical socialist goes on all nuclear power would be phased out standers labels nuclear power a false solution with regard to American energy needs Sanders would also ban all geoengineering and carbon capture and then with all of this at work Sanders makes the unbelievable statement we do not expect energy prices to spike Why are you kidding me we do not expect energy prices to spike guaranteed they will and why because the federal government is going to weatherize homes electrify heating and keep electricity prices stable the federal government with our taxes in other words we pay for that no matter all of that will cost trillions of dollars and by the way the federal government will not be paying for that we the people will with the most oppressive taxes ever imposed on any citizenry and in the history of our country. The Sanders plan would not revolutionize America it would destroy it. Next Bernie Sanders goes after the railroads he would require that they retrofit their coal and oil bomb trains that's what Sanders calls them bomb trains. Coal and oil bomb trains and more trillions of dollars that work to accomplish that . And then he goes after the targets he hates above most the fossil fuel companies Sandor says that these companies have been driven by greed no specification as to what kind of greed but he condemns them all he accuses these energy companies of having evaded taxes desecrated tribal lands exploited workers and poisoned communities things that make you want to go. Hope for the grace of God to bring salvation has appeared to all men that's the good news our teacher Dr j. Vernon McGee shares as he begins our study today in the New Testament book of Titus beginning in chapter 2 verse one I'm Steve what's your host on this 5 year journey through God's word and I'm excited to get started as our study is packed with great information for us as a church and for each one of us personally throughout these pastoral epistles or letters Paul has been giving advice and encouragement to young preachers a few months ago we looked at his letters to Timothy and tomorrow we'll be concluding his letter to Titus through the centuries the instructions given to Timothy and Titus have provided important guidelines for our local churches today and as you can probably tell after serving as a pastor for more than 40 years Dr McGee had a very warm spot in his heart for local churches so as we begin our study today I'd like to share a few letters from pastors who are our fellow travelers on the Bible bus with us the 1st one comes from Pastor Remy he's in Baltimore Maryland and writes You are one of the best thing. As happening at this very dark time you have been and always will be in a way says in my spiritual journey in the desert of life I'm a pastor of a small church in your programs enrich me in ministering to God's people well the next one is from a pastor this one's over in Ethiopia I would like to thank God and those who are contributing cheerfully to make through the Bible programs available to us the Lord will not fail to reward your kindness your studies have a quip to me abundantly in my work of preaching the Word of God before.
