The presidency was 36 percent the medical system was 35 and I would guess that's dropping rapidly not because of the the medical people involved but because the end of fair and some of the government the u.s. Supreme Court 34 the public schools 32 the criminal justice system 28 banks 26 television news 23 I would have been down around 3 percent on that one newspapers 23 big business 22 organized labor 28 Him ows health maintenance organizations 19 and last on this list is the Us Congress with 10 you've been there you said on the next page that you're only surprised that the Congress managed to get 10 percent of the country that has. That must have been k. Street lobbyists or something I don't think I've ever talked to anyone who did but I mean we laugh but we really can't have a government that's trusted by only 10 percent of the people and even the justice system when you get down to 20 or so percent or people who don't think they can get justice the problem is a lot is just too big is trying to do too much and when things get big they get wasteful they corrupt power always corrupt and we keep throwing more and more things at Washington and what concerns me is people continue to vote for those who take these false promises that somehow we're going to help the middle class by raising minimum wage they know that's not true that doesn't help the little guy it hurts the little guy so if we can just get Americans to wake up forget the political parties vote for themselves vote for those things that work we can show people what works and we're just showing here that they don't. The big and there's a reason that 7 out of 10 of the richest counties in America are in Washington d.c. And they don't produce anything up here that most of us want but it's because big concentrates wealth in the big city and when the doors close and the legislation is written here for instance for Obamacare it's not for the little god to get health insurance it's for the big insurance companies who are salivating over forcing every American to buy their product it just doesn't work like Americans hope it does and we need to move power and money decisionmaking out of Washington and get states to compete and when they do we're all better off you wrote that why Hinton is the mother of big. And you said on page 11 special interest groups across the political spectrum are spending hundreds of millions of dollars on political campaigns hoping the when a 51 percent majority so they can gain control of the federal structure and force their ideas and policies on the other 49 percent people can see why I like this book in the things that you've said that's exactly what's happened isn't it it is and the point I'm trying to make in this book is while I know that there's certain values and morality there's a going to make life better for people the way America works is that we can be very diverse we can live next to each other when people disagree on a lot of things but if the government starts coercing people to believe in something or to participate in something that violates their conscience their religious faith that's when you get a rebellious and resentful nation that's very divided if we can respect those differences we can live together is a very diverse country but not if Washington is trying to force everyone to follow the same idea I wish is my prayer that the American people would rise. And say to big government and the rest of the power brokers get off my back turned loose this great engine of prosperity known as democracy let it go and see what would happen that's how we live became the most prosperous and successful country on earth and what is happening here in the United States is absolutely remarkable how we came from this this little fledgling country to the most powerful nation on Earth then it was because the people were free and freedom is not the natural state of governments it is the influence of power brokers talk again about who the other big czar but you make a really good point. That if we could just let this go but the left has been telling the poor or the middle class for years that if the federal government doesn't do it they'll be no safety nets that you're on your own and a big will take advantage of you a lot of what I have in this book is evidence to the contrary that there's always a safety net coming up from the ground that works so much better for this and we do on a safety net in our country but the federal government cannot be that safety net the challenge we have is to convince people that their most secure when their most free even if they're poor even if they're unskilled that the examples I have and in his book is The things that are working in actually helping the poor are not coming from Washington Washington traps people in dependency it traps them in broken families and we've got all the evidence in the world a safer get the politics folks if you want Washington to do it it's going to hurt the little guy if you want Washington to do it in wealth is going to concentrate on Wall Street and big unions and big corporations. Who are up here writing the legislation in the regulations and the relationships I describe in the book here have you got the regulators who one day want to work for the lobbyist so they're giving them a pass on things and you've got big corporations carving out something in in regulations or legislation that gives them an advantage so they don't have to serve their customers the same way the little guy does but I am convinced that this country it can be greater than it's ever been and it would not take long to rebuild it if we just move these ideas out of Washington and I think it's starting to happen with education with the choices that are blooming in every state and now states are competing for the best system but if we can elect people who will say Get off our backs let America work America will be better than it's ever been this may offend you but I think not there are times when it looks to me like both Democrats and Republicans are more interested in staying in power than they are in doing what's best for the country is that just the perception of a person who's never been there are is there fill it in the to that idea though that's the perception of a very perceptive person you've worked with a lot of politician and it's true and it seems to us why I believe in term limits it's almost inevitable there are very few people that are here over 10 years that are really still fighting for something because this becomes your life your sound chamber everything you hear is coming from inside the Beltway in Washington but that's what people do they do things and they justify in their own minds that this is for their constituents when in fact is to protect their own power base and that's why things like earmarks are sore tracked it makes you look good back home you take back all this money and it's hurting the country so anyway I could preach about term limits a long time and I hope some day that more and more states will do it and eventually the federal government. Will do it expecting them to limit their own power the whole seems like a long shot the me that is it is a long shot unless states do it 1st if you get there $1520.00 states with term limits on their legislatures then you'll put get people elected up here who want to do that I think they do indeed lock them in or they'll change their minds at the Yesmen I have just written about the moral decline which is the issue that as I said yesterday bothers me the most and I listed 8 examples of this moral slide it almost feels like we're going into the sewer that's a gross term but it it feels that way to me and then I came after these 8 examples of what's taking place I wrote this is I don't usually read on the air but maybe it's appropriate here I said these are just a few of hundreds of news stories that caught my attention in recent months every day brings additional outrageous developments they have become so commonplace that many decent people now suffer from what I call protest to Teague their worn out by constant battles that they usually lose Americans have been desensitized by what's happening Dar culture nothing shocks us anymore and our nation is indeed losing ground morally and then this paragraph the question is what do we do about it would a more conservative political party be able to turn the country around Probably not although I would support one as a private individual could a man or woman of character set us on a right path possibly but the change would be superficial and temporary unless the people rise up to demand it. My father always said the mockers see is the worst form of government if the citizens want the evil but cause there will be no stopping them that's kind of the way I feel about it comment on that what you said to the right saying it actually it's all in the hands of the people the thing that encourages me Dr Dobson is trying to remember the scripture that reminds us that we're salt and light and you know salt and light are not big one little candle in a dark room can shed a lot of light and one little grain of salt can change the flavor of a piece of food and so we have to remember the gods never done this with large numbers whether you think of Gideon or whoever and he's shown that he can take a few pieces of bread a few fish and multiply it but it has to start with us and we what we have to do is this certainly we have to try to keep hold in Washington accountable but we've got to have almost a revival among the people not only in a spiritual sense but in a sense that won't be intimidated I'm going to stand up for what I believe in not because I want to push my ideas down the throat of someone else but that I want to be free to believe and live the way I think that God's leading me to lead and if we can get the people we don't need a majority I'm convinced if we can get 2030 percent of the people who want to make a change it would change in a hurry because you've got the broad middle that are going to follow the people with courage and inspiration that's what we need right now is people pastors business people is not going to come from big corporations big corporations are pushing the wrong way it's going to be small businesses churches individuals and small platoons at the local level of all kinds but we don't need many because I try to show in the book that in communities all over this country if you just have a few people who are trying to do something to help the drug addicted to help those . The unwed moms but they can make a huge difference so let's don't give up and remember the salt and light idea and I have a feeling it will get brighter and brighter if the people will decide to take their country back everything has a spiritual dimension then what you just said comes right out of scripts or describe what you mean by federalism I know that many of our listeners will know the answer to that but you speak very highly of it explain what it is and why it's so important well it's actually a word a lot of people don't understand because it sounds like you want more federal government and when in fact it's the opposite it's the original idea of the Constitution that the federal government would have a limited role primarily in defense and making sure that there is justice throughout the land the rest for the most part was left to the States and to the people and federalism is 50 states competing for the best education system the best health care system the best energy development system the best way to protect families protecting marriage ideas like that and that's what we need to encourage is we're all better off if the states on all sides of us are trying to do something better with whether it be lower taxes or just more freedom in protecting people of faith so federalism is moving power and decisions and money back to the states where it belongs not that states are going to do it perfectly but we're funding if states have to compete that they get better and better and when in fact the federal government doesn't have to compete and it seems to get worse and worse and more wasteful in spending more and actually now it's beginning to drive our morality our culture into the ground the states can change that and that's what federalism is it feels to me like that the states are are fighting for their their place in the side . And I mean that Washington has come in and told them what they can do and their laws are not respected I have many friends in Texas who are pro-life and have the justice system they Supreme Court for that moral issue down their throats is deeply resented I mean they're you know this but there are a lot of people in Texas who would like to secede would like to be a separate country because they're so irritated by the lack of federalism and that is the goal of government is to consolidate power isn't it it's not to give power to 50 end of it you'll States Iraq right there folks that just want to make us like every other country in the world forgetting that what made America so exceptional and prosperous and compassionate was this concept of ground up federalism and we've got States you know I work some with Rick Perry and we're trying to organize governors and legislators around the country who are helping to push back against the federal government to take back more control unfortunately the federal government spending in and out money like candy and say Ok you take Common Core will give you all this money and I want to be a part of helping pull the states together and get leaders at the state level to push back because that's where the Courage is us where the innovation is the less we can do in Washington the better off we are as a nation you mentioned Common Core yesterday and today a lot of people don't know what that is explain that you're against it I'm against it to explain why well a lot of people don't know what it is because it was really a very subversive move by the Education Department and moving it out to states have been in states that the legislature didn't pass anything their Board of Education might have accepted it it was an idea that sounded. Good as far as that being voluntary in money would come with it but like every federal program once you get past the 1st page and they start writing the regulations you realize the curriculum they're putting together for this would be a national curriculum and a lot of moms have seen the homework that comes home the questions that are being asked it's completely ridiculous and so now and more and more became give us an example of that well I'll give you one example with salt an actual question of a 5th grader at said Ok What's 9 plus 16 I think those are the numbers it could be different numbers but and discuss your answer and this 5th grader just you could see scribble down 9 plus 16 is 25 but in the answer he said I asked my brain and I agreed with the answer my brain had I mean it's like he had to explain something that was very obvious that math is about numbers and doing calculations but where there's came from is you had a governor who was successful at setting standards or several of them did and they think all would be nice to have set those same standards for the whole nation that doesn't work what you need is states competing for a better and better system not some standard that basically dumbs down everything over a period of time but we don't need a common set of standards for the whole nation other than justice and equality and making sure that every child has a chance but what we need is a lot of different choices of school that matched the different learning styles and interest and aptitudes of students so that everyone can succeed but they're not going to all succeed at the same thing and. The goal is to please parents those kids don't belong to the federal government or to the nation they bomb to individual families and away really need to listen to what they feel is best for their kids your exact. Right unfortunately and it's almost a standing there people in Washington actually challenging the notion that children belong to parents so if folks think are redefining marriage is the last step in this thing they're going to redefine every institution if we allow him to do it and it's complete nonsense because if you want a better life for children the best place to put them is in a home with mom and dad that's not always going to work out as in my own case but mom and dad making decisions about schools yes they're more involved in those schools and the children are certainly more active in their studies and we need to follow the course of what's working and but the resistance is not coming from people who want the best for students the resistance is coming from the big the big teachers' unions who is biggest fear is 50 states doing their own thing they're going to fight it to the end they've got their allies in Congress but they're going to fight it and basically they control a lot of the political spectrum in the country today we have to push back but we've got the majority of parents now who want better choices for their children that title of the book is falling in love with America again and the answer to that statement they're following the how do you do that that is my last question need to you Can we change the course that we're on and save our country we not only can people are doing it all over the country today we just need to get the federal government out of the way and let America bloom again and it's happening all over the country and what made us great is still working today well it's a pleasure talking to you who have been talking to Senator Jim De Mint falling in love with America again I want to fall in love with my country again I'm tired of being angry upset disillusioned discouraged about the things that are taking place and. I think one of the most important things to God is how we treat people and he's really a people person he loves people and he especially same as I have tender place in his heart for anyone that's all pressed down trodden and bruised are hurting in any way and believe me there's a lot of those people out there now if you are a person that has a position of power are you are in a place of being in authority over anybody it's even an extra important that you make a real effort to make sure that you always treat people with tremendous excellence and that you show respect to all people there are many people in the world that the minute they get a little bit of power and authority and they want to trample all over those that they see as quote lower unquote than they are and really in God's eyes no one is higher and lower we're just all in him for whatever I can do good I do it because of his grace and whatever I can't do he has to fill up my weaknesses so be sure you treat people really good. The Declaration of Independence who wrote it really high this is days not he let's talk about it today on the public square. It is without a doubt our most important national document it is the heart of America where America comes from the Declaration of Independence when the colonies got together and they decided it was time to separate from the nation of Great Britain. So who wrote it well everybody thinks it was Thomas Jefferson and to a certain degree that's true Thomas Jefferson was the pen he had the quill in his hand and he was commissioned to do the 1st draft but the mindset behind the Declaration of Independence came from a committee it came from 5 people who worked on the document together and editors who had every bit as much impact and import in the document as to Jefferson so there was Thomas Jefferson from Virginia John Adams from Massachusetts Benjamin Franklin from Pennsylvania Roger Sherman from Connecticut and Robert Livingston from New York it was in fact a committee of 5 now it became quite popular to say that Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence particularly because the folks in Massachusetts who had been enduring most of the grievances against Great Britain needed the help and the alliance of all the colonies and in particular they needed the help of Virginia. Thomas Jefferson happened to be the young handsome red headed kid from Virginia that fronted the Declaration of Independence and really helped move the ball down the hill but in total it was. This is Dave thanks for listening today. book of Philippians In fact I have been working on memorizing this book. For some time I've been working on it I have a bunch of it that I have got pretty much nailed but I'm still working on it day by day I love this book I love its message and the background of it is so thrilling because here is one of the most positive joyous books in the Bible written by a guy who is writing the book from a prison cell or from house arrest in Rome he is in the worst circumstances you can imagine and yet he writes a book on Joy So one thing we can be sure of in that joy doesn't have a lot to do with your circumstances it has something to do with who you know and the relationship you have with the Lord we're going to start our teaching of the book of Philippians today as we open our Bibles to the 1st chapter we're going to look at the 1st 11 verses we'll start that section today and then we'll finish our discussion on the joy of community after the weekend before we get into our lesson . De I want to just give you kind of an affront notice about something pretty special as many of you know we have a unique track of ministry for children it's called airship Genesis it's built on the airship Genesis children study bible and there's something new coming that's really great it's a brand new airship Genesis mobile game for kids it's called airship Genesis pathway to Jesus and it's great for your summer road trip it's available now from our website go and look for it and you'll find something that you'll be happy you found when you're trying to keep your sanity in the front seat of a car with a bunch of kids in the back who don't have anything to do will give them something to do that will really be cool find out about it when you check our website out today and then on the 15th of July was just a couple of days from now we're introducing a brand new mobile app for turning point I just saw the demonstration of it friends and it is incredible it makes everything that we do so easy to access and I'm sure you want to have that app as a part of your inventory on your phone or wherever you access turning point from your home right now I want to get us going in Philippians I get so excited about all the stuff that's going on I don't want to forget the purpose for which we exist that's to teach the Word of God Here's the beginning lesson from the book of Philip is. Today we began a new study in the New Testament book of Philippians this letter is about joy we will find the word rejoice 9 times the word joy is in there 4 times the expression rejoice with is there 2 times and the amazing thing about it is that the letter to the Philippine congregation was written by Paul while he was in prison it's one of the prison episodes you would never think that a prison a pistol somebody right. Being in jail about their relationship with God would feature the joy of the Lord in their hearts which teaches us all that joy isn't about your circumstances it's about your savior and Paul is connected very powerfully with his savior so what we're going to do is just study the Book of Philippians kind of verse by verse but let me give you a suggestion that will help you really understand this book and let its truth wash over your soul in a way you cannot believe there's only 4 chapters and you can read it very quickly so let me challenge you to read Philippians every day find some quiet time it's not going to take very long just read every word of the book of Philippians every day you'll come to some places you don't understand read him anyway and just know the interpretation is coming we're going to get to that verse some time before we're done and the more you read it the more you'll understand it that's just the way the Bible works so we're going to talk today about the joy of community and we're going to study the 1st 11 verses of the 1st chapter and those verses go like this Paul and Timothy bond servants of Jesus Christ to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in full of pie with the bishops and the deacons Grace to you in peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ I thank God upon every remembrance of you always in every prayer of mine making a request with joy for your fellowship in the Gospel from the 1st day until now being confident of this very thing that God who has begun the good work in your heart will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Just he wrote as it is right for me to think this of you all because I have you in my heart in this much as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the Gospel you all are partakers with me of grace for God is my witness how greatly I long after you all and this I pray that your love will continue to grow and abound in knowledge and in all discernment that you may approve the things that are excellent that you may be filled with the fruits of righteousness to the glory and power of God. That's Paul's introduction that's how he started his letter and throughout those verses are so many personal words from Paul to those to whom he wrote. When Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo running backs for the Chicago Bears began rooming together in the late sixties it was a 1st for both of them Gale Sayers had never had a close relationship with a white person and Piccolo had never had a close relationship with a black person in fact he had never known a black person during the 1968 season Gale Sayers suffered a career threatening knee injury most pundits thought he would never play again but one year later after the close of the 1969 season and having made a full recovery. Gale Sayers stood at the banquet of the New York chapter of professional football writers to accept the George award as the most courageous player in pro football. Sayers and Piccolo had planned with their wives to sit together at the banquet but instead Brian Piccolo was confined to his bed at home he wasn't fighting with a football injury he was battling cancer. And that night. Gale Sayers accepted the George s helos award but he accepted it for Brian Piccolo. As he stood to receive his trophy Here's what he said. You flatter me by giving me this award but I tell you here and now that I accepted for Brian Piccolo Brian Piccolo is the man of courage who should receive the George s. House award it is mind tonight it is Brian Piccolo's tomorrow I love Brian Piccolo and like all of you to love him to. Tonight when you hit your knees please ask God to love Brian Piccolo. I remember that speech. And I remember it did to me then what it's about to do to me right now . I love Brian Piccolo for some reason those words sound strange coming from a professional athlete in our culture grown men do not usually express their affection so openly. Let me for us now is a letter that is filled with expressions of love. As we read this brief letter from Paul to his friends in Philip I we are immediately struck by be eloquent words he used to describe the deep feelings of attachment he had for all of them. The small church to which he is writing was located in the Roman colony known as Philip I therefore we have the book full of peons for over a decade the members of this church had lived and worked together as a close knit group of believers now the apostle who had founded the church some 10 years before could not hide the deep attachment he felt for them he had been separated from this church because he had been put in prison and he had longed for them his life seemed incomplete without their fellowship. And we are startled as we read these words that this great man of God who accomplished so much in the establishing of the churches that we read about in the New Testament was a man so desperate for the fellowship of His Christian friends Dr John Townsend explains in modern terms the pain that Paul was feeling he said the reason is found in the law of entropy or the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics this law of physics states that things that are isolated move toward deterioration entropy operates in the spiritual world as well said towns and whatever is cut off tends toward deterioration that's why the ultimate punishment hell is not defined by loss of consciousness or annihilation but by its utter and complete separation from the love of God Jesus sacrifice for us involved his separation from the father when he cried on the cross My God my God why have you forsaken me in that moment the infinite Son of God felt the awful separation of hell for each and every one of us why was Paul so hungry for the fellow. Ship of the Philippians because he was built just like you and I are and none of us were built to do life on our own God created us for fellowship he created us full relationship and Paul's relationship with these intimate friends had been interrupted because of his imprisonment but his love for them had not gone away in fact his opening remarks in this letter are devoted to a detailed expression of his love for them and their prayer that their love for him would grow and that they would continue to grow in their love for each other as Paul communicates his feelings for the village paeans he touches on many of the prerequisites for loving relationships in a local church and as he concluded his opening remarks he launched into a prayer for the growth and maturity of these associates for whom he cared so deeply so in these next few moments let me take you through these 11 verses. Let's begin 1st of all with humility the attitude of love Philip is $11.00 begins like this Paul and Timothy bond servants of Jesus Christ the letters of the New Testament usually begin sort of like this there's usually 3 parts to the opening of a letter in the New Testament there's the sender and then there's the subject who gets the letter and then there's some sort of a salutation and so it is in the book of Philippians of the sender of the letter to the Philippians church is Paul and Timothy and Paul's name in itself is a testimony to his humility do you know what the name Paul means my middle name is Paul I didn't know this for a long time it means little or small. I don't know what happened to that but my name is Paul. Before God Paul saw himself as he described it in the chapter 3 he called himself the least of all the saints Paul had an adequate and proper attitude about himself as he wrote to his friends and Philip by he was in prison and when he spoke of his friend Timothy he referred to both of them as fellow bond servants of Jesus and if you study the words of Paul in his letters 13 of them in the New Testament you will notice that everything in his life is viewed through the lens of his slavery to Jesus Christ outwardly he wrote as a slave of Caesar but inwardly he knew he was a bondservant to Jesus Christ he had come to Rome bound in chains but later on in the 1st chapter of this little book he refers to those chains as chains in Christ. To Paul the term servant was a title of dignity and humility there was no greater position then to be a servant of Jehovah God We all do well to remember that God did not save us to become sensations God saved us to be servants so as you read this letter you're going to discover that humble service is a dominant theme besides Paul and Timothy there's a path for a die this all of them are held up as examples of what it means to live your life in serving others and it is Jesus Christ in the 2nd chapter of this book who was given to us as the ultimate example of what a servant is he humbled himself and became obedient to death that's what the Scripture says. In the world in which you and I live service is looked upon much differently than it is in the Bible for instance if you start out in work to work your way up in the chain of command in some organization you start at the bottom of the triangle but as you move up little by little you come to another level and there's always fewer people at the level that you aspire to and ultimately you may get all the way to the top and you're at the zenith of your career you're at the top you're the boss you're the c.e.o. You're the chairman of the board you're in charge and in our world today you look at your picture and you say look at all the people who are serving me. And then somebody reads the Bible to you and you find out that when you become a Christian the triangle is turned upside down. And the higher you go the lower you go and the question then is not how many people are serving you but how many people are you serving. And Paul understood that he realized that great as he was he was a servant to the churches that he had founded to the a pistol's that he wrote and literally to each and every one of us he has served us by putting the words that God gave him in to this written episode. Humility is the attitude of love Paul and Timothy bond servants of Jesus Christ unity however is the atmosphere of love interesting in the 1st and 2nd verses to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philip I with the bishops and the deacons Grace to you in peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ whenever you see the word saints in the Bible it will almost always be in the plural. It hardly ever appears in the singular In fact I cannot cite one place that I have found where it does appear in the singular in reference to the Body of Christ. This is a gentle reminder to us that Saints are not meant for isolation they are meant for community j.i. Packer wrote that we should never think of our fellowship with other Christians as a spiritual luxury an optional addition to the exercise is a private devotion we should recognize rather that fellowship is a spiritual necessity for God has made us in such a way that our fellowship with himself is sped by our fellowship with other Christians have you ever thought of that that when we fellowship with one another as be leavers in our small groups or as we meet together on Sunday or as in the in adult Bible Fellowship or just whenever we're together with our beloved friends who are Christians when we are fellowshipping with them we are increasing our fellowship with God That's what the Scripture teaches if we had designed the structure of this text the leaders would be the Saints and the followers would be the servants but 6 actually the opposite in Paul's letter. The leaders aren't the saints the leaders are the servants. And where there is community the leaders are always the servants and the followers are the saints. Have you noticed how Paul addresses them he says to them Grace and Peace Did you know that in the Bible those 2 words are never reversed you will never read in any of the letters of the New Testament peace and grace to you one reason Grace always proceeds peace you can't have peace if you don't have grace you become men and women of peace when you become men and women of Grace Dr album claimed said you can search the word of God but you will never find peace 1st it is always grace and peace never peace in grace these are the Siamese twins of the Bible you cannot have peace to you 1st have grace a man may search and seek until the end of his life but until he receives grace through Christ he could never have peace so even in that little salutation grace and peace we learn so much. Now we've looked at the attitude of love and the atmosphere of love let me take you a little bit further into this text and let's talk about diversity the assignment of love. And most people that I know of when they come to church kind of gravitate to the people that they feel comfortable with we have an affinity for some people it's face it we get along with some people better than we do with others even in the body of Christ that's pretty normal but when the assignment is to love someone who is different. When we're called upon to love somebody that is not like us. That can be a challenge your know anybody. And you know you're supposed to love them. And you keep praying that God will help you figure out how to love them there's no little phrase that goes like this to love the whole world for me is no chore My only real palms the guy next door. You know we can love in general can't we we all know how to do that we can do you love our church oh I love our church. You probably could tell me a couple people in our church that you you love them because you know God tells you to but you don't like them. In the church in Philip by there was an incredible diversity there was a woman in this church named Lydia she was a business woman who sold purple cloth and made so much money she was able to help in the establishment of the church and many scholars believe the church and Philip I actually met in her home for a long period of time. In that church there was a jail or he would have committed suicide if it had not been for Paul. In that church was a slave girl who had been delivered from a demon and you can go on and read the letter and if we knew everything that was going on in that church we would know that church was filled with a whole lot of people who were so different from each other but they had unity in their diversity and the unity we have and diversity is because as Christians we all have the same spiritual d.n.a. Don't way we have the d.n.a. Of Jesus Christ in our hearts I know that some of you have a hard time with that I read this if everybody were just like me the world would sure be a better place to be there'd be no murder for I'm not violent no stealing for I'm not a thief no adultery I'm happily wed no atheism I believe in God No ignorance I've been to school if only the world was more like me surely it would be a better place to be or what it. For if everybody was just like me there would be no merry go rounds I get dizzy there'd be no clowns I'm self-conscious no doctors I hate blood no painters I'm color blind I really am. No mechanics can fix anything this is written about me. No elevator operators I'm claustrophobic no home run king's I can't hit a curve ball no balloon riders I'm afraid of heights come to think of it if the world was just like me. It would be an awfully boring place to be. Isn't it true that in the Church of Jesus Christ we have this beautiful thing that happens we come from all these different backgrounds even come from different religious backgrounds when church members joined the church they joined the church not their church we are all part of the Body of Christ and our unity is not about our diversity our unity is in Jesus Christ and it in compass is the diversity of all of us like snowflakes that God creates We are all different and yet it is a beautiful thing to see the people of God. Amen you know what a great introduction to the weekend and the importance of the church we had communion in our church last week and I told everybody that the 1st thing God said was not good was this is not good for man to be alone all the men shared but it's more than just about relationship between a husband and a wife it's also about a relationship in our family and relationships in our church and I reminded them that this is called communion communion with God but communion with each other as we observe this ordinance the community of the Body of Christ is one of the most important lessons in the New Testament ladies and gentlemen we were not meant to do this alone we do it better together and we're learning about that Philippines is a great teaching tool without regard so be sure and join us every day next week we're going to take time off for the weekend Don't forget to get to your church and be an encouragement to somebody the Bible says you should always go to church with a word of encouragement and then look for turning point on television in your community will be there for you if it's during the time you should be in church record it and watch it when you get home don't skip church whatever you do and then be sure and join us next Monday as we open our Bibles again to the 1st chapter Philippians. And we teach this book which tells us how to be joyful no matter what's going on around us Hey I'm David your mind thank you for listening have a great weekend friends and I will see you here in a couple of days. So we are looking at a verse here in Romans Chapter one Verse 18 that tells us more about the human mind in the human condition than many psychiatry's some psychologists take a lifetime to fathom and then don't it is an amazing verse and it puts us all in the spotlight in an rather uncomfortable way but ultimately it helps us to know ourselves and to realize what's happening with us and then how we find the wonderful love of God revealed So let's look at this verse this is Collin Cooke here and this is how it happens a broadcast on how the Gospel happens and how faith happens we learn how God does his work it's a wonderful thing that God has revealed all this to us through the Gospel and as he as we see this revelation of the Gospel our faith is trained we have more courage to approach our loving God through His Son Jesus Christ and we have more confidence in our salvation Furthermore we break through many of our struggles with addictions whether they be drugs or alcohol food issues sex issues gambling scapes from pain of all kinds I invite you to listen to this broadcast every Monday through Friday 10 o'clock in the evening or repeat. It at 4 in the morning on k l t t m 670 in the Denver Colorado and surrounding states areas or if you can't do it at that time and you want to listen anytime of the day or night at any place you are at then you might want to download a free app to your remote devices let's see you can download pod being or Sound Cloud or Spotify and Apple and Google pod casts and simply find me by keying in how it happens with Collin cook so here we are Romans one verse 18 and I described the 1st part of the meaning of it yesterday for the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all on godliness and on righteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness and just to recap let me remind you that this is part of the Good News of the Gospel how can the wrath of God be part of the good news well 1st of all we understand that God's wrath is not a suspension of his love God does not suspend his love in order to be wrathful wrath is not the opposite of love God is love 1st John 48 tells us and therefore when God is wrathful he is expressing a certain aspect a certain quality of his love it is tough love he loves us so much that he is determined to do certain things that will bring us into a relationship with him that from our side appear like wrath but in fact are expressions of great love for the wrath of God is revealed from heaven by the way we'll see what that wrath is in verses 2426 and 28 but was God wrathful about what's he mad about put the wrath of God is revealed from have.
