There's something wrong there and there's something wrong there ironically was for years in our culture we would look at that child and say she's a prostitute she needs to be arrested taken off the street let's send her to juvenile hall and let's treat her like a criminal somebody finally got the idea. That maybe that 12 year old didn't wake up one day and decide she was going to be a hustler maybe she was forced into it maybe she was kidnapped they were she was drugged into it maybe her parents are gone and she's you know the family's from Dallas and she's in Hollywood and you know. Common sense started to prevail I sat across the table here shortly after that bill passed from a detective with the Police Department the Obama administration to put forth federal grant money to improve detective training to help these police officers and detectives work with victims of sex crimes and sex trafficking because you don't just you know go in there all Rambo style and hey there's a girl she's being prostituted we're going to bust down the doors like they do on television again a Hollywood imagination invention. Will show who are you know these guys whose boss will get those groveling bad guys walking out of the hotel room with their hands in cuffs and we did that it doesn't work like that and as I spoke with Detective after detective after social worker who said look if a girl's been in this situation or boys because half the kids who are trafficked for sex are boys to just Polly would make more money off of glamorizing girls. Said Look if you're trying to rescue someone from this you've got a few minutes to convince them that the police who they've been taught to distrust are more reliable and credible than the pimp who's going to show up and bail them out because that's the only family they know. And so there was a lot of training that went into helping to tech to police officers undercover and whatnot. Work with these victims so as they were making the arrests they could say the right things to help convince them not to manipulate them but understanding this is the position they're coming from. And I thought that just seems like common sense why have we not done it before. Why did law enforcement spend so much time just saying you committed a crime so therefore you're a criminal instead of saying you committed a crime but you are 10 wires a 10 year old committing a crime. Isn't there something beneath the surface here that is leading that 10 year old to commit a crime. I mean if you saw a 10 year old boy or girl at a grocery store stealing groceries. Letter of the law says you're a thief you're going before a judge common sense says you're 10 years old why are you stealing groceries are you hungry is there no responsible adult at home did you run away from home Is someone forcing you to do this. We like to pat ourselves on the back for being so well educated and so sophisticated and so progressive in this culture why is it taken so long to figure out basic stuff like that. Like Have we really been as a society not just talking about law enforcement I'm talking about we as a society why do we go on vacation why do we get on airplanes go to hotels do whatever and we don't want to think that there might be somebody on that plane or in the hotel or in that restaurant or working in the kitchen of that restaurant who might not want to be there. I spoke with a woman about 34 years ago who was trafficked here from Mexico. She had the trafficking started in Mexico 16 years old pregnant ran away from home a couple be friended her brought them into her rest their restaurant she was going to work there they're going to help get her across the border help them save enough money etc etc They immediately started trafficking her for sex. No longer was she just a waitress at the restaurant they center into the bar and said take care of the customers . They bought a nice things they put her up for in a home they did they made it look also altruistic and also wonderful and then when she said Wait I don't want to do this they more they said oh you owe us $5000.00. I mean you think we gave you those clothes you think you're living here for free Oh no no no no no no no you work for us. And you can work this off a dollar or 2 at a time eventually a customer came in helped her recognize what was going on and helped her start squirreling away some for money was able to buy her way out of that situation came across the United States and becoming a citizen. Now I know nobody wants to have their date night ruined by going into a restaurant and wondering if the guy working in the back is working there against his will. Nobody wants to go to Disney World and go to the hotel and go walking up and down the hallway and wondering if the lady who's cleaning up your mess in the bedroom you know sheets and stuff all over the place if she is going home and giving all of her paycheck to some guy who holds her identification and won't give her the opportunity to live her own life because she came here under the false pretense that there was a better life waiting here for her was smuggled in the country wound up paying several $1000.00 to a coyote to get in here and then once they're here they realize they have no identification there's no way to connect with people back home you're only connection to the outside world is this person who controls your future and if you say anything they'll send you home or they'll turn you in. You know get deported. I never people start talking about the immigration issue at all just kind of makes my blood boil when I hear people talking in terms of saying hey look there is a big issue with regard to illegal immigration obviously there are people who come here illegally and they want to do horrible things and they need to be stopped and there are people who come here legally and don't have to go through the illegal channels you know a 1000000 people coming in here just from Central and South America every year who come in legally and they don't have any drama. But what about the person who gets brought here either the small child. Parents bring him here with a 2 year old going to do no I don't want to go to soon Tonio of course are going to go I don't like Galveston Why do we have to go I mean. At least take as the San Diego their Seaworld. And then not only that. But then what about the person who gets trafficked here and is here against their will now because they don't have any freedom and they're constantly threatened with will all turn you in and you're the person who brought me here. Well it's national January was actually national slavery human trafficking prevention month and told you about what in a now Berger did Mary on international got in the fray as well. And they launched a program to start training all of their hotel workers to start looking for signs of human trafficking in their hotels and how to respond if they do in fact see something. According to Arnie Sorenson rather the president and c.e.o. Of Marriott International Human trafficking is a horrific form of modern slavery it entraps millions of people around the world and by educating and empowering our global workforce to say something if they see something we're not just standing up for the most vulnerable in society We're also protecting associates and guests as well as living up to our core company value which is serving the world now. Little side bar. Core Value serving the world. Can you be a bit more specific for value we want everyone to be happy I mean come on. But they actually have a training program it's mandatory and it's awareness. Your role in preventing human trafficking recognizing the signs we've got a link for this at the bottom line Show dot com And this is significant because 500000 people work for Marriott International and work in the hotels and these are the people. Who have been trained so now that they can spot whether or not someone's being trafficked We'll take a quick break and come back about to talk about why that is so important next as the bottom line continues. Good news Friday edition of The bottom line show today I'm Roger Marsh good news coming out of Marriott International a report that they have now trained 500000 hole to hotel workers to recognize the signs of Human Trafficking Now granted they released this story as they were talking about you know something during happen the month of January which is a national It was national slavery human trafficking prevention month but nonetheless to their credit. Unfortunately hotels are a place where there's a lot of. Trafficking that goes on you know it's been glamorized in the media for years oh you're going to go to that hotel wink wink and just for a couple hours wink wink they were at rooms by the hour where you know ha ha ha well the hotel would be a perfect place for a trafficker to bring a young woman or a couple of young women women for example they all paying cash he says a fake id they handle their business with customers who also paying cash and then they leave you wouldn't know that there are sex trafficking going on there it's a huge step in a big paradigm shift and I know my part of me and the left side of my brain or maybe it's the right side says Why haven't they been doing this sooner but to be fair the fact that they're doing it all I think is noteworthy and it's good news Friday story material so good news Mary out and thank you for doing that and if you think by the way if you find a good news Friday's story you'd like to hear on the bottom line shell please send it to us you can post it on our Facebook pages the Facebook page for this program is the bottom line show with Roger Marsh kind of a mouthful but several 100 people like us and follow us there you can do Instagram or Twitter that we don't tweet a whole lot Twitter is just too mean it's just too weird to get back into Twitter at some point but also go to the bottom line Show dot com The bottom line Show dot com And if you find an example of a story that you think would be no worthy and sharable please do new story that was published recently is getting all sorts of headlines and people are saying oh no no that's not what they meant that's just it is misleading headline and I know about misleading headlines and so do you I was looking for information about a story about the Food Drug Administration and not being able to do as many inspections during the government shutdown anyway. Because if you took a government job just for the job security then you're not really a civil servant if you took it because you really do want to serve your community then you're a civil servant Otherwise you just took it for job security I'm not saying you should do the job just saying let's not let's not confuse the 2 Ok. But if you look at the headlines for this story and the f.d.a. Not being able to inspect food it was either they're not doing it at all or they're doing it in a limited sense or they had to scale it back but it's still happening or it's on 3 or 4 pages on Google this morning looking at the different ways the story's been reported so I realize a headline can be very this is why I say read as many news sources as you can to get the real story because if you only watch the same channel if you only look at the same. Online source if you only read the same newspaper every day that group now has a narrative that they are pushing on you if you go to Google or Duck Duck Go or one of the search engines that Yahoo whatever when you use look at 2 or 3 pages of the headlines of the same story and decide for yourself what's really going on the headline here of the article or posting at the bottom line Show dot com is a.p.a. Which is American Psychological Association a.p.a. Issues guidelines calling traditional masculinity harmful to men and boys. How I mean if you just read the headline alone what you're left to surmise is that men are a danger to themselves simply for being men American Psychological Association has issued new guidelines filling out how quote unquote traditional masculinity is quote unquote harmful to men and boys for the purpose of helping psychologists who work with them. The professional guidelines from the a.p.a. Which reportedly took 13 years to develop are the 1st of their kind for that group that they've published for clinicians working with men and boys Ok so if we understand this correctly the a.p.a. Has put together some guidelines for all the counselors that work under American Psychological Association structure and this is what they're telling their clinicians. That traditional men men and manhood traditional masculinity is harmful to men and boys 13 years to come up with these guidelines and the a.p.a. Is relying on rely on over 40 years of research and this is from their press release quote it shows that traditional masculinity is a psychologically harmful is psychologically harmful rather and that socializing boys to suppress their emotions causes damage that echoes both inwardly and outwardly What in the world does that mean I mean 1st part of the Sens traditional masculinity is psychologically harmful 2nd part of the sentence socializing boys to suppress their emotions causes damage aren't those emotions what they are calling traditional masculinity and is that causing damage to suppress those emotions I'm confused Let's read on shall we and see what the the the wonderful clinicians at the a.p.a. Could tell us the American Psychological Association says quote The more men conform to masculine norms the more likely they were to consider as normal risky health behaviors such as heavy drinking using tobacco and avoiding vegetable. The last time you hear those 3 things of the same sentence I don't know about Jimmy I'm kind of worried why is that what he's been drinking heavily he's been using tobacco and he's been avoiding vegetables. I love my sister she's fantastic she avoids vegetables like they were a disease she really doesn't like vegetables and she's wonderful to college degrees registered nurse she's fantastic when did avoiding vegetables become problematic I mean obviously your body is better off if you eat vegetables can I get an amen Ok and organic is fantastic when it comes to vegetables I mean I know I know they look a little smaller they don't look look are all radioactive like some of the vegetables she could get some taste like and look at this tomato it's the size of my head you know it's kind of scary but the American Psychological Association says the more men are conformed to masculine norms I guess this is that whole patriarchy thing that has been so common to attack by feminists over the years you know the man that says I'm a rugged individualists I'm going to go work hard for my family I'm going to you know be my own boss now heavy drinking I don't consider myself to be an unmasculine man and heavy drinking is not my thing using tobacco I puffed a couple of cigars avoiding vegetables I made vegetable smoothies every day so but they're saying that men consider these as risky behaviors and they're normal here's the real crux of the issue Ryan McDermott is a psychologist at the University of South Alabama who helped draft the men's guidelines and he asks in the report why does gender in the 20 tense it's no longer just this male female binary the role of the clinician he says can be to encourage men quote to discard harmful ideologies of traditional masculinity like violence and sexism and find flexibility in potential positive aspects like courage and leadership Ok. Be open the phones please Tamar 802275278 this is this is crazy. The American Psychological Association says that traditional masculinity is all about violence and sexism and traditional of masculinity does not include courage and leadership so you know those pioneers they came across the country in covered wagons you know Neil Armstrong and and great athletes and men who accomplished great things they have to be less masculine to be courageous they have to be less masculine to be good leaders according to Dr McDermott in his team are working on a positive skid by Ryan McDermott I'm not going to assume that Ryan is a male or female. Ryan McDermott and his team says his but I'm not going to assume anything are working on quote a positive masculinities scale to capture people's adherence to the pro-social traits expected from men something that has never been measured systematically. I don't think we had to measure systematically right ladies couldn't we just I mean guys to you knew what masculinity looks like until psychologists are telling you you didn't know what you're talking about the phone lines are open at 80227527 am I missing something here I mean has there been this a change in what it means to be masculine and is it bad guys I want to hear from you ladies want to hear from you too the American Psychological Association has issued guidelines calling traditional masculinity quote harmful to men and boys do you agree with that assessment 802275278 that's the number to get you through to the bottom line. Hold faith truth keyhole d.c. 95.3 f.m. . Here's something to think about. A wealthy woman was a faithful church goer plaques of her many contributions adorn the buildings and objects one day she died an angel met her at heaven's gate and scored her down a wide full of all lined with huge beautiful mansions. As they walked mansions turned into houses and they got progressively smaller and smaller. And smaller. Finally they came to a one room hug READY. Here you are madam said the Angel. She said indignantly. There must be some mistake I'm sorry said the Angel but this is the best we could do with what you sent us during your life. No liberal media bias here that's the bottom line. 857578 taking your calls on this issue with regard to a positive masculinities tale in the American Psychological Association to assessment that true. Missional masculinity is actually harmful to men and boys and we have to come up with new guidelines for clinicians to work with men and boys to realize that how toxic their masculinity is what do you think do you agree that it's gotten to the point where traditional masculinity is toxic and harmful Let's go to the phones now Mike in Fresno Welcome to the bottom line Mike thank you Roger I was kind of followed I'm kind of lucky right. I'm not following you but. I did real men Kenny vessels just the way you prepare them you know I mean Daniel I mean look at him and his buddies part of their diet would have. You know a blueberry smoothie is that if that's what rocks your world why go for it. Ok you know like. I say not as often as I. Will women. So. Yeah Ok Well I think that's a it's a good assessment because the emphasis there is of course real men and real women in the beginning God created us male and female in the image of God and the beautiful thing about being created in the image of God is the fact that we're reflecting him in the culture right now yet we live in a culture that doesn't want any part of that or doesn't seem to want to be part of it I'm not saying the whole culture but there are a number of people who really honestly don't the American Psychological Association dug through 40 years of research and over their 40 years they have decided I'm quoting him here that showing that traditional masculinity is psychologically harmful and socializing boys to suppress their emotions causes damage that echoes both inwardly and outwardly now I can surmise from this that what they're saying in essence is Ok. If we put up this John Wayne image of masculinity in the culture and John Wayne image is you know rough and tumble and smoke cigarettes and ride horses and you know he's got you know chases the girls and you know that damsel in distress and all that stuff if there are some young boys growing up who see those images in the media or perhaps maybe they grew up in a home where dad was really abusive an abrasive you can see that Ok if you take traditional masculinity and you blow it up to the point blow out of proportion where a guy says look a certain measure of through most of godly passion is good but if it becomes abusive if it becomes detrimental then of course it can be toxic but what the American Psychological Association report does not take into account is that part of being a true man a real man and tried being a real woman too is we can identify the problems when someone's taking it too far when we see if there's a man who's being abusive toward his wife or to his children we look at that say that's not right that's not the way God intended it that part is toxic that part is detrimental but does that mean that all of masculinity is toxic does that mean that all of masculinity is detrimental Mike I appreciate your call phone lines are open if you'd like to weigh in on this too do you agree with this excess been from the American Psychological Association that quote unquote traditional masculinity is harmful to men and boys and new guidelines are being drawn up right now to work with clinicians who work with young guys like this to say let's come up with a new way of looking at masculinity because you don't really want to be a man. You know want to be an abuser but does that mean you can't be a man anymore women are deciding who really aren't really aren't they white ladies if you want to get out of this too sometimes you want to find out about the real measure of masculinity in the culture ask women what they think of real masculinity ladies you go to the head of the line when you call 802275278 more of your calls here in a moment the bottom line continues less negativity less division less distraction and just praise for his truth k l d e c 95.3 f.m. . Steve Russo with real answers that's the most significant choice in life it's not your career path who you'll marry or what house to purchase it's about entering God's kingdom and becoming part of his family Jesus described the choice in terms of 2 roads which lead in opposite directions one is broad where most people journey it's pretty easy travelling because anything goes the broad road promises to give us whatever we desire but in the end it leads to our destruction the other road is described by Jesus narrow the entrance a small with no room for self-indulgence traveling on this road requires commitment instruction the longer you journey on this road the more freedom you would enjoy it's narrow because there's only one way to become a member of God's family. Let God's word come alive in your life today. Discerning talk radio that's the bottom line. 75 to 70 just a number to get you through the bottom line show I'm right you're Marsha started talking before my producer opened my microphone so I'll give you that phone number again 802275278 talking about an article that is up at the bottom line Show dot com And up on all of our Facebook pages as well the American Psychological Association has issued new professional guidelines and these are guidelines they're not trying to make these into law per se just when there are counselors who provide counseling for people who are looking for counseling. The American Psychological Association will provide guidelines and say this is how we're handling a situation like this in the case of what they call traditional masculinity the a.p.a. Has now decided that traditional masculinity is harmful Now there are some people are saying we get where you're misreading this year this is just guidelines for clinicians and you have to look at you know when it gets toxic if there's a guy who's constantly abusing his wife or you know stealing from his employer you know engaged in risky behavior remember I listed some of the risky behavior that they listed included heavy drinking of course that's problematic using tobacco went that's a little interesting because using tobacco if you read the statistics cigarette smoking in the United States is at an all time low I mean you consider the number of people who used to smoke cigarettes 203040 years ago the last to to stick I read indicated that 14 percent of Americans actually smoke cigarettes. Now tobacco use I realize can also involve chewing tobacco it can also involve From what I understand they being the cigarette thing is still considered part of that I don't smoke so I don't know but nonetheless and then of course there's that whole avoiding vegetables thing my goodness I thought avoiding vegetables wasn't called traditional or toxic masculinity was called adolescence boys and girls alike engage in that well I'm curious as to what you think of this report I mean even making a concession for those who say look they're not talking about all men they're just talking about guys with behavioral issues anger problems things of that nature who need that but you know you can make that case only so far when Ryan McDermott who is a psychologist from the University of South Alabama who helped put these guidelines together says this is no longer it's no longer just this male female binary as he puts it the role of the clinician quote is to decide help men discard harmful idle ideologies of traditional masculinity and he specifically mentions violence and sexism which no sane person would think is Ok and then says and find the flecks of the billet in the potential positive aspects like courage and leadership and there's no one that I know and maybe you know somebody is different who would think that a masculine men would say I don't want to be courageous I don't want to be a leader C'mon. But maybe I'm missing something here let's get a woman's point of view back to the phones now Stephanie in Torrance California listing like a bright Stephanie welcome to the bottom line time thank you for having me thanks for your call Stephanie what you think of this report I like what I like to say this way is structure and the moments in the development all those thing. Last term like the reproduction of the code basically from man and soul and you start all trying that you want to give an example of that you see all these buildings that you're setting and all of that comes from out of man and his mentality is ideology and whether And I'm going to use this word and respectfully how some people say a soft man versus fartman you. Take a man and you'll put him into a hardware store and they give you an example Harbor Freight and you take that man requires both a conflict damage that happened to him and you put him in there he would ask the basic question well why did he put the school own way up here why did he make the change this way and the polls done that yeah he wants to know he's kind of naturally inquisitive as to how things work better is man and when that man operating at his capacity may go on to sell what tool he chooses to use then the woman actually sees her sell so and so that's why colleges I understand understand that because most women are raising a man right now because those whatever the reach them. But they need to go right there. And Harbor Fright them all and then if they come up what ideology that they're trying to turn the world into you know it's not it's not going to work well Stephanie I want to I want to commend you for making observations because you kind of taking yourself out of the equation and you're observing what men are actually doing as opposed to the ideology of a lot of the psychologist and they'll say oh we've got all this research and we've done all these you know counseling and things like that chances are the majority of the people that they're counseling might be guys with anger issues who are you know with where they were abused they were hurt things like that and so if all they're seeing is those kinds of patients and some point are going to say well for 40 years this is what we're seeing So this is what men are doing instead of looking to the good and saying hey go hang out at the hardware store with Stephanie you want to see what a real man looks like let me let me let you know I think that. You flip it over again but I'm certain about Ok Ok what I had a breakdown. Ok when the brain was not functioning correct. Out of me came out how do I make the brain function correctly and so I did take piano lessons and they only way that the brain could come out quickly was if I were to get into a piano class and play the music as it was the sign to be played and then my kind would be correct then. The most become of the melody would be correct the outcome would be gratifying and this is the I like the summer of 2000 and everything is back to the little dude I'm in Poso soul so what I'm saying to you no one can write down whether it is anger a mental block it emotional blockage is like oh blockage all of those things can be addressed by the things that we see and then and then just lastly what I want to say is the. They need to stick to the Bible this under review by young box to the last know where you will find a Bible. But if you go Well I'm. Not find. That that's my excellent point Stephanie thanks so much for calling really appreciate it thank you think she 280-227-5278 is the number to get through here on the bottom line show I'm Roger Martian We're taking a look at this new study from the American Psychological Association with regard to you know then that they're looking at what their patients are demonstrating they're also looking at different you know reports in the culture I mean for example one of the things that they cite the overwhelming majority of homicides are committed by men. Men are the most at risk of being victims of violent crime the man's life expectancy is almost 5 years shorter than a woman and for some reason the a.p.a. Has it attributing all of that to all these dangerous behaviors they're lumping it all into one category and calling it quote unquote traditional masculinity and then saying hey we've got to get rid of these quote unquote rigid gender norms and the traditional notions of masculine masculinity they're not saying it's all to blame but they're saying it plays a big part so my question to you is do you agree do you believe that and I know the site I will often and with great passion avoids asking you how do you feel about this what do you think about this what do you believe about this because our feelings only get us so far you know if I feel like I want to have a donut like the one that's in the kitchen here at the studio right now I don't know who brought it in. Shame on you. I could feel like I want to have it but I think I'm not going to because I've had plenty don't it's my day and I don't need any more so it's important for us to look take a look at what we believe what do you believe about men and women what do you believe about the way created the created order for masculinity and femininity is understanding that this is not to the American Psychological Association these traditional values are something society has forced upon men and women if you read as Stephanie just mentioned if you read a Bible instead of a psychology book you will see the masculine characteristics and the feminine characteristics the way they're supposed to be played out and then you'll see lots of examples too of men who shirt their responsibility men who are on faithful to their wives women who are deceptive women who are God honoring I mean you'll see the whole human drama played out in the $66.00 books in the Bible so is the American Psychological Association on to something do we need to redefine what society thinks about the traditional masculinity that appears to be so harmful 802275278 will take a quick break and come back with more of your calls as the bottom line continues. No I I have been married been married for 25 years man I'm 74 years old can't hide a black conservative Christian woman and I just clearly I resent the way feminists are waging a war against men and masculinity there's it's just terrible There's a professor by the name of Geoffrey Miller who's a an evolutionary psychologist at the University of New Mexico who would not necessarily say I believe in biblical values but even he said hey wait a minute I mean this is they're getting way ahead of the the science here they're getting way ahead of you know really credible evidence here and basically just saying they're waging war on you know traditional masculinity but it's not it's not something that really should be fought against it's one of those things where we can appreciate your woman I'm a man we can you know the evil of difference because now we're coming out of from a faith they standpoint you know of course this is the way God created us but it's interesting isn't it to see how many people outside of the church now are looking at this and saying well you don't know that Roger I mean that's that's traditional rigid norms of masculinity here talking not you and that it's well it's a dream that's because they don't understand God hierarchy of. Authority and because of that they just they are determined to you know impose their feminine. Ideology on our society and it's very sad and I think that man need to stand up and say no you're not going to subjugate me I'm still a man God gave me a certain level of authority and I'm going to continue to exercise it Brenda you're a very wise woman and I appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our listeners today thanks for calling in our friend one of our 1st Arizona callers before even though you're a California transplant appreciate talking to you today Ok thank you Ok You know it's Iran. I guess Brenda was just sharing that about the number of guys who would stand up to a report like this and say hey I'm not going to put up with it ironically they would be doing so in a way that was affirming their masculinity you know to say Don't tell me you know how I am and not supposed to act you know it is very interesting when one gender starts telling the other one how they are supposed to act based on the fact that there might be some parts of it they're a little dangerous little or a little risky Have you noticed in the culture right now how risk averse we've become I mean think about this for a moment how many great achievements how many great accomplishments would have taken place if we had such an aversion to risky behavior that drives through any major metropolitan area where they have big skyscrapers and asked the question if we were risk averse we wouldn't build 100 story skyscraper because nobody would have the courage to get up on the crane and do it no one would have thought of those great things would we have gone to the Moon know what we have performed surgery No I mean think of all the things the advancements that we have in our culture right now that required courage How about standing up for the right thing in a very very difficult time against the tide of public opinion that takes courage when one of your favorite actors or actresses goes to one of their award ceremonies like the Golden Globes or the cademy awards or whatever and they stand up in front of a bunch of other people who all think and feel the same way they do and they say something that we all know everybody's going to agree with and then someone says oh wow that was such a courageous speech because courage involves going into a hostile environment an environment where you know not everybody's going to agree with you and maybe even no one's going to agree with you and yet you believe and are convicted by the fact that this is true. So to be a truly courageous person to share the truth in love with somebody who does not necessarily want to hear it that's courage it doesn't cost you anything to do what everybody else is doing and you know they're all going to applaud you for it this is part of the problem that we're finding in the education system when we applaud our kids for everything whether they warrant that applause or not after a while they don't really understand the value of achievement because everything gets celebrated and you'll notice that left as we were talking about this in the Jack Phillips case for several months now if not years the masterpiece cake shop guy did not find favor with the community because he would not celebrate what he thought considers to be sin and I do too like having adultery cake you know I mean just doesn't make any sense but leftism not only wants you to accept their behavior but they want you to celebrate it and in the same way you realize where this all started yes there is toxic masculinity when some guy says well I'm a big old tough guy and I'm going to you know throw something in my kid and you know I'm disciplining and this is the way you heard my conversation with Rick Johnson he talked about overcoming toxic parenting he was physically abused by his step dad and mom when he was a kid they called it discipline they called it punishment so when he became a dad that's how he started treating his kids and he had to stop and say wait a minute this is not love this is not disciplining correction this is abuse but again it takes courage to look your past in the eye and say wow there may have been some good parts to this but that was abusive that was wrong that was harsh it takes a lot of courage. To look you are growing up in a Liz Diddy couldn't think of a name off the top of my head growing up in a fundamentally Christian home quote unquote that turned out to be a cult and having to tell her Mom and Dad I love you but I'm leaving this and not really having a relationship with him for 10 years you think that takes courage to say I'm never going to see my parents again how many people stay in bad family situations simply because they don't want to lose a relationship with their mom or their dad or their uncle or their brother or sister and they'll put up with the abuse just to try to salvage the relationship instead of saying I'm going to stand up to the abuse and I have the courage to walk out. This is a fascinating study I believe because I think altruistically somebody the American Psychological Association is saying hey we got to do something to step up to all these you know these these abusive guys and we've got you know the the culture is making them violent and you know but but to just lump into one category traditional masculinity equals violence and sexism. Let's be more flexible let's try to find courage in leadership and the underlying assumption there is those are feminine qualities and not masculine and so masculinity is toxic and everybody should be more like girls and you know quite frankly given to Michigan as you know happily married to a man aren't you Tamar and and evil a difference they love and appreciate those differences kind of phone line open if you have a comment on this 802275278 The American Psychological Association new guidelines call traditional masculinity toxic and harmful What do you think 802275278 that's the number to get you through to the bottom line. Bottom line show we're talking about the new report from the American Psychological Association the a.p.a. They spent 13 years developing these professional guidelines and again this is not law they're not going out and trying to change city councils and things like that the idea is that they've looked at 40 years of research that's that they put that quote shows traditional masculinity is psychologically harmful that the force the socializing boys to suppress their emotions causes damage the insinuation is if boys are rough and tumble g.i. Joe where are my trucks you know that type of thing when they're younger if we make them act a certain way then somehow they're you're forcing them to not be true to themselves it's a very common argument that you'll hear from the left and that you'll hear from the world's a secular society in general and that is that you are truth and you have to be true to yourself brothers and sisters as a Christian for most of my adult life I can honestly tell you you don't want me to be true to myself and you don't want to be true to yourself either because yourself is a liar and a cheater it is diabolical and it's conniving basically you're a sinner I am too I mean I'm not point the finger saying Oh well if you were a pastor in a radio host you would be like that no we're all that way so all this nonsense about Know your own truth and live your own truth and be your own person and stuff like that you got to be true to yourself Now I understand there are certain parts about you that you kind of have to figure out like I had to figure out that I'm not a draftsman or an architect I had to figure out that I'm really not built to play tackle football at least I wasn't when I was my school I don't have that killer instinct that says I want to be a wrestler or a construction worker or whatever you've got to figure that about yourself out and if you're a parent grandparents to one of the best gifts that we can give the children in our lives is to help them figure out the way God wired them. But we believe that that wiring comes from God that He created each of us in our mother's wombs he knitted us together with all sorts of likes and dislikes and tendencies and not tendencies and the culture is the one that says hey if you're a boy you can grow up to be a girl if you're girl you can grow up to be a boy I mean there were societal norms that used to hold people back quote unquote but I you know the feminist move in the sixty's kind of cracked me up insinuating that women who stay home on the range with 12 kids work in a farm like that was easy somehow I mean that was kind of a limited window in the what forty's fifty's and sixty's all these appliances show up and all of a sudden oh it's just easy to stay home right. Not be in the workforce and yes they're worse of societal norms that said this is what we want for the culture but along with that quote unquote patriarchy was also the idea that a husband could go into the workforce and earn what was called a living wage as a family wage as in this wage that he earns will provide for a wife and children as well we don't have that anymore see feminism said that's patriarchal we shouldn't have that anymore so of course the employers are like this is great. We have to pay so much anymore let's get mom back in the workforce too and they'll have to get daycare in the have to eat out more until all sorts of other expenses and products that you have to have the more men or conform to masculine norms the more likely are to consider it normal to have risky behavior that's because God put a sense of adventure in the heart of men asked John Eldridge we read the Wild at Heart books now does that manifest itself in heavy drinking and excessive tobacco use in the avoidance of vegetables that's what the a.p.a. Says I beg to differ if you want to know what masculinity should look like look at the person of Jesus Christ. Look at your heavenly Father look at the way he created you and if you want to know what true femininity looks like to look at your father look at your Father in Heaven God created us male and female in his image the only created beings that are created in His image and he saw that it was good and that word in the Hebrew Tov literally means essential perfect everything that you need we just say good. I know they're going to be people who are going to try to offer help to people who you know where this all gets out of whack and the masculinity does become toxic but just because it has the tendency to do that in certain individuals doesn't mean that the basic behavior is all that horrible quite the opposite when it's done the way God intended it it's not only good it's perfect and it's beneficial for men and for women as well look to God in this case that's the bottom line. Are you concerned that high crimes and misdemeanors high crimes and misdemeanors have been committed or you just don't like the fact that Donald Trump won the election in 2016 and you will be darned if he's going to win the election again in 2020 impeachable offenses are taken very seriously you know was.
