We have the chance to give the guy what happens and does it really matter what you give listen to Adrian Rogers I'm telling you folks that God deserves the best of what we don't give God that which is lame and sick and leftover listen when you bring your gift next Sunday if it means little to you it'll mean little kids. It's been said you can gauge a person spiritual life by looking at their checkbook now how would you feel if somebody were to open up your checkbook to see what's really important and if we open your online calendar or got into your phone right now and saw what you spend most of your time doing what would that reveal maybe it would heart me show you that you really are investing in the kingdom maybe it would show you you spend more time figuring out your fantasy football team now I'm not trying to pick on football fans here you stay with us this is love worth finding featuring the dynamic and biblical teaching of Adrian Rogers I'm Chris favorite Now if you can stay with us for the entire program today you can catch us online and l w f dot org We have some great resources there for your Christian growth l w f dot org We're in the middle of a dynamic series titled exulting your savior and today we consider how to keep the wonder in your worship are you excited about your church experience are you excited about serving God and loving Him with all your heart has your faith smoldered instead of becoming a roaring fire and stay with us as we begin to understand how to keep the wonder in your worship if you can now turn in the Bible to Malakai chapter one verses 6 through 14 Once again here's Adrian Rogers. One man had been missing church for a long time the pastor went to see him and the man began to give one excuse another excuse he had been out of work the children had been say Kate had difficulty at the farm animals but and then he said it's been raining and raining and raining every Sunday the pastor said but his dry it turned he said yes and that's another reason I haven't go all the water we do about these Gries services how do we put some spiritual lubrication in our worship Well we're going to see what happens when the joy the wonder the thrill the end Tuesday as I'm goes out of our worship say a dream don't you ever get tired Don't you ever get weary and yes I get weary in the work but I've never ever been wary of a word what I want to do is talk to you about how to keep the wonder in your worship I want to talk to about how to keep the fire in your faith how not to let it become weary how not to snuff at it what is that what cools us down why are we not thrilled about the things of God How can you key the wonder. In your worship 3 ways number one you need to recognize the nature of God recognize the nature of God Look at verse 6 a son on earth his father and a servant his master if I then be a father where is mine honor and if I be a master Where is my fear now 1st thing God is our Father and we are his sons and fathers are to be on around the word honor it comes a word which means weight giving weight to it means to be taking someone seriously do you take God seriously I mean are you serious about your worship. That's the reason the Bible says over Jesus said in and Revelation Chapter 3 verses 15 and 16 to the church at Laodicea because out neither hot nor cold but lukewarm I will spew the out of my mouth I've told you before g. Campbell Morgan said that lukewarmness is the worst form of blasphemy God says I'm a father where is my honor that's the reason when Jesus taught us to pray how did he teach us to pray how do we begin our prayer Our Father which art in heaven how would be thy. So God is a father that's one way that we recognize the nature of God and not only is God the Father but God is a master look at it again in verse 6 and then he says. If I be a master Where is my fear now as God is a father. He deserves honor and of God as our master. He deserves fair. You know we have a generation today that does not fear God Some people say I don't believe in a religion built on fear all true religion is built on fear not a filthy fear the Bible says the theme of the Lord is clean not a dread not a cringing horror of God The fear of God is love only it's needs and we need old fashion. Reverence for God How do we serve the Lord God as a father give you honor. God is our master give him clear not only recognize the nature of God But then write only heels of that you reverence the name of God you reverence the name of God Now begin in verse 6 again and listen to it some on earth his father and a servant his master if I then be a father where is my dollar and if I be a master Where is my fear saith the Lord of Hosts unto you open and watch this that despise my name and you say are wherein have we despise die and name well he says in verse 11 for my name should be great among the heathen so that the Lord of hosts but he have profaned it and that you say the table below it is a lewd and the fruit there in even his meat is contemptible and he said also behold water weariness it is and you have snuffed that Seth alone now remember God's name stands for his character what is his character he is a father and he is a master Now how can we despise God's name we can despise God's name by half hearted worship look in verse 6 and go right on through with me now on the losing of the last part of Verse 6 if I be a master Where is my fear said the Lord of hosts on the you open that despise my name and you say where in that we despise the name now listen you offer a polluted. Bread upon mind alter and you say where in it we polluted the boat These are smart alec questions asking Almighty God almost insolent questions God answers though and that you say the table of the Lord is contemptible that is I don't have to bring the best offerings and lay them on the table for our Lord and if you all for the blind for sacrifice is that not even and if you all for the lame and the sick is it not even all for it now until by government are Will he be pleased with the are except by person set the Lord of Hosts Now what were they doing they were coming to the Lord and in that day they would offer animal sacrifices we don't do that in this day but in that day they would offer animal sacrifices and they go out of the flock and they had some cripples sheet some lame oxen some blind animal something that was worthless useless something that had a scab a scar a blemish or something perhaps that even died in the field they would bring it and offer it to the Lord now the Bible absolutely totally is against that now why were these offerings Why were they required to be perfect because every one of them was a picture of who Jesus and you remember what Peter said about Jesus and 1st Peter one verse 8 and 9 he was a lamb without spot and without blemish he was the perfect offering and all these old testament offerings were a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ and God says don't bring to me and offering that is wounded or weak are blind are sick are blaming Bush and look in verse 8 Chapter one Malecon verse a go back and if you offer of the blind for sacrifice is it not evil and if you all for the layman sake is it not evil and then he throws a challenge to them all for it now to the eye governor. Well he accepted now if the governor were going to come and you say Oh Governor we're so happy to have you in our city in our home in our synagogue in our temple Here's a gift for you and you bring out a sick cow. You bring out a. Scabby animal of some kind you bring out something that is blind and you say there this governor is Per you God says would you offer that to the governor would he accept it no you would give your best if the government became the prince whoever it is might visit How does that relate to us do we give God less . Then we give to the government. I suppose now when April 15th comes around us right the i.r.s. And you say you know I I know I should pay my income tax but you know I've kind of had a bad run of luck here lately and things are not just what they ought to be so I've decided not to pay my taxes this year you know I've ever heard anybody talk that way about making offerings to little well you know this things that happen and so I've decided I'm not going ties you know until I get back on my feet try that only i.r.s. All right let's try this try this on your boss tomorrow morning no I didn't come into work I had company that came. Our you know I've been gone so hard I I just decided to sleep in today. Tried only the boss try this on your wife I bought myself a $300.00 suit and I got you a $10.00 dress in a rummage sale. Price I don't know why. No listen why is it that we eat the cake and give God the crumbs that's what they were doing . They were not offering the best to Jesus I'm telling you folks that God deserves the best of what we have don't give God that which is lame and sake and left over God says you've given me these cast away things you've given me things that you don't really want anyway sometimes I have a mission house and so they take furniture that people don't want it's broken or been scarred or a settee with a hole in a somewhat say hey you know let's give that to the missionaries why not let them have the best and you have the said he with a hold on taking up food and food offering what we do we look under the sink with find that box of meal at the water's drip going men and we don't want that take that out and you get those. 13 year old cans of tamales you've had back. Let's get rid of these get these out what else is scab been blind and scarred let's give that to God let's give our best to the master let's not just give him something that we don't want anyway that's what he's saying God says Hey. Try that on your governor would you do that for the government listen let me give you a verse I found I was I was amazed when I found this verse Exodus 22 verse 31 God says and ye shall be holy man and to me neither show you eat any Flay that is torn of beast in the field. Now you said if you find for example a deer that's been killed. In the field. Don't need it. Don't need it he says this listen to it ye should be a holy man and to me neither show you any place that is Torah beast in the field you should cast it to the dogs. Don't you eat it. Cast it to the dogs nice talking about animals now that have been torn don't eat it give it to the dogs do you know what some folks are doing they're giving God dog food. And giving God dog food they're saying here it is not fit for us not care to God. Why was there worship and where next well because they were offering to God a half hearted on the word of the sacrifices listen when you bring your gift next Sunday if it means little to you it will mean little to him. And I say that again if it means little to you it will mean little to him Give us your best to the master I was reading about David when David wanted a place to put the Ark of the Covenant and David is the King and here's what it says 2nd Samuel Chapter $24.00 verse 20 and a room look and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him and a room I went out and bowed himself before the king on his face to the ground and ruin us it wherefore as my lord the king come to his servant and David said to buy the threshing floor of the to build an altar unto the Lord that the plague may be stayed from the people and a rule not a set and to David let my lord the king take and offer up what Same with good unto him Behold here be oxen for burnt sacrifice and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood all these things did our room as a king give unto the cane and a room to set it to the Cain the Lord thy God except the and the king said unto a room not made but I will surely by all of the at a price neither will I all for a burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which death cost me nothing so David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for 50 shekels silver and David built there an altar unto the Lord and all for burnt offerings and peace offering now a room it was a good man David said look I want to make a sacrifice to God there's a plague in the land and I want the plague to be stop and of whom this has a king that's wonderful how you just come there is mile qsam sacrifice that you need. Here are the instruments for plan. Going take that m. Burn it it's all yours. David cetera thank you very much but I'm not going to let you give it to me I want to make an offering to God and God forbid that I should offer to the lord of that which cost me nothing you know some bar giving make no difference at all in our lifestyle God forbid that I should offer to the lord of that which does cost me nothing God's name can be defiled by our sacrifice and God's name can be defiled by our service notice in verse 11 he says for from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles and in every place and send should be offered in my name for a pure offering for my name and shall be great among the heathen so that the Lord of hosts but profaned it and that you say the table of the Lord is polluted and the fruit thereof even his meat is contemptible and you said also behold what a weariness it is now. God says you profane my name what do you think of when you think of profanity. Do you think of someone in a bar room using swear words do you want profanity is profanity is when you use the name of God and don't mean it when you not enthuse when you stand in a church like this and sing Oh how I love Jesus and you know I'm thinking about what you're singing and your mind is off somewhere in some business deal or what you're going to do we're going to meet with after church. The worst profanity happens in the house of God. God says you have profane my name how by half hearted worship. My half hour to worship think what an insult that is to Almighty God You say. When will this service ever be known. And the same people you get excited when a ball game goes into overtime a minute souls are being saved and people are coming to Jesus and we say saying one more stand alone. Friend listen to me. We're in business for the king. We need to keep the wonder in our worship and we cannot come and offer to God that which doesn't cost us nothing and offer castaways to God and then profane his name his name is to be great not to be clock watchers you know God's name is not to be defiled it has to be declared look in verse 11 here's what God wants done with his name look at it all from the rising of the sun even to the going down of the same my name should be great among the Gentiles and in every place and saying shall be offered under my name for a pure offering in my name for my name shall be great among the heathen said the Lord but ye have profaned it now let me tell you the greatest name that I know as Jesus did every attribute of. Every quality of God. Is summed up in magnified in that name Jesus pastor are you sure about that absolutely but the Bible says God had given him Jesus a name which is above every name there is no other meaning that takes precedence over that main Jesus and go how we ought to honor the name Jesus Christ friend think of Jesus there's salvation in that name Acts Chapter 4 verse 12 neither is there salvation in any other for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved there is worship in that name for Jesus said in Matthew 18 verse 20 where 2 or 3 are gathered together in my name there am I in the midst of them there is authority and that name in cautions 3 verse 17 and Whatsoever ye do in word or deed do all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks and to God the Father by him there is prayer in that name John 15 verse 16 you've not chosen me but I've chosen you Jesus said more danger that you should go and bring forth fruit and that your fruit should remain and watch every show ask of the Father in My name He will give it to you now what we need to do for in is to remember the nature of reverence the name of God All for a worthy sacrifice use his name with a sense of all and wonder and then the 3rd and final thing respect the nobility of God Look in verse 14. But Cursed be the deceiver that hath in his flock a male and balance and sacrifice into the Lord a corrupt thing that is he has a worthy offering but he makes up about on a promise and he offers some unworthy offering God says a curse is upon him for I am a great king. Set the Lord of hosts and my name is Greg Faull among the heathen that speaks of the nobility of God God is a Cain Look folks when we remember his nature he's a father and we're his sons would honor him he's he's a master We're servants we're to fear him we need to reverence his name not to profane his name in. Just remember the name of Jesus every time we're saying or praise or pray again don't profane his name and then finally respect his nobility he is the king the absolute came now in these verses that I've shared with you here is what God is his father his master and he is Cain as sons. Of God deserves. As servants. He deserves our labor and as subjects he deserves all oil. D.c. 95.3 f.m. What is the bottom line like to make this a no spin zone I mean there's so much fake news in the world right now people will report just about anything and it looks official because it was on a website My commitment is to make sure that we focus on what the real news is getting the facts but then applying typical wisdom to those facts so that we can make better decisions the bottom line with Roger Marsh weekdays on Cayo d.c.d. 95.3 new archaeological discovery contradicts the Bible I'll tell you why headlines like this are worth double checking next one breakpoint from the Colson center for Christian worldview Here's Eric Metaxas with breakpoint. We've heard a lot about fake news this year and last week we were treated to a flurry of fake news aimed at the reliability of the Bible a study published in the American Journal of Human Genetics reported that d.n.a. From 3700 year old Canaanite remains closely matches that of the modern Lebanese In other words a major Biblical people are alive and well still living in the region it was an exciting confirmation of the Bible's history but for a dozen or so major media outlets it was precisely the opposite study disproves the Bible suggestion that the ancient Canaanites were wiped out trumpeted the u.k. Telegraph the independent declared the Bible says Canaanites were wiped out by Israel lights but scientists just found their descendants living in Lebanon and a.b.c. Online reported Canaanite survive biblical slaughter ancient d.n.a. Shows even the journal Science joined the debacle with the headline ancient d.n.a. Counters biblical account of the mysterious Canaanites science soon issued a casual correction saying the story and its headline have been updated to reflect that in the Bible God ordered the destruction of the Canaanites but that some cities and people may have survived may have these reporters might want to reread their Bibles or maybe read them for the 1st time because far from claiming they Canaanites were wiped out. Scripture records in numerous places that large Canaanite populations survived and thrived in the region as David Klinghoffer at evolution news points out the 1st chapter in Judges lists all the places in Israel where the Canaanites persisted for they the Israel did not drive them out and in the next chapter God rebuked Israel for not driving the Canaanites out saying they shall become thorns in your sides and their God shall be a snare to you much of the remainder of the Old Testament is the sad fulfillment of this prophecy some Canaanites like Rahab who hid the spies at Jericho converted to the Hebrew religion and were incorporated into Israel and in Joshua 9 we learn that the entire Canaanite city of good beyond tricked Israel into a peace treaty and its people were allowed to stay even in the New Testament in Matthew 15 we read of a Canaanite woman who begged Jesus to heal her demon possessed daughter he famously rebuffed her twice before seeing her great faith and granting the request and according to the genealogy of Matthew and Luke Jesus himself had Canaanite d.n.a. As he was descended from David through Jesse obit and Boaz whose mother was Ray have all of this goes to show how biased much of the news media are against Judeo Christian annotate but it also shows that we're living in a time of startling biblical illiteracy the fate of the Canaanites sets the stage for much of the biblical drama in other words knowing it isn't a matter of being religious but of having a basic acquaintance with the most influential book in Western civilization so there are 2 takeaways here 1st archeology continues to reinforce key elements of biblical history I say this having just read another report an ancient jug handles in Jerusalem that confirm the Babylonian destruction and exile our faith is based on a real god who worked through real events in history not some dream time legend the Canaanites were as real as their descendants are today 2nd. You can't always believe what you read in the press particularly when it comes to the Bible open it up and do your own fact check reporters missed things but the story of our faith was authored by a perfect God who unsurprisingly never has to retract a word for breakpoint this is Eric Metaxas and. Hello Denver thank you for taking the time to tune into the radio broadcast of Denver Christian Bible church pastor and teacher is John a moral and it is our hope and prayer but the message you are about to hear will be glorifying to God and strength to each and every one of you our listeners and the reminders of the cross is our only hope for now and eternity where you're riding in the car or sitting at your desk at work sit back relax and allow God's Holy Spirit to minister to you through pastor Morley. The Book of Proverbs Chapter 6 beginning at verse number 16 as we launch into this series Growing Pains over the course of the next several weeks amen there are 7 things in these verses I don't know that we will need a week apiece but over the course of the next several weeks for sure I just want to slow down. And give God an opportunity to work on our character to work on our foundation. How many you know it's easier to build a building then of years to lay a foundation. And if we are honest today and if you allow me to use that as a metaphorical analogy as an illustration a lot of us self included in fact self at the top of the lives us as you can be seated thank you a lot of us Spirit in our time building our building rather than allowing God to lay or in some cases like mine to tear up and read lay. Our foundation but how many you know you can build a tall pretty building. But if it's standing on a shaky and weak foundation. It can just tough all over and fact the taller that building and presumably the prettier it looks without a strong foundation because its center of gravity is so elevated you can just walk up and push it over. God has been working in my life and I suspect that he has been a wants to work in some of your lives to lay or really lay a good foundation and let me say this one more thing before we dive into the Texas Day Foundation as it relates to us as human beings push as they were say wake up time of say Wake up tell them again say he talk of the year. Foundation as it relates to who we are as human beings is never about what we do. It's always about who we are. But if we are honest today if I'm honest today in a spirit of transparency I have spent most of my life wrongly so mis guided in this area of my life and now God is having to reshape my thinking to help me to see life and my insecurity in here is not about what I do it's about who. But life tells us to rack up as many check marks as we can to put as many nonces that I built as we came. To to garner and gain as much as we can and consequently we spend all of our time doing rather than being. We are human beings as one author has so rightly said not human doing and I would encourage you to be here on Thursday nights for Thursday connect if you have not been as we walk through this study knowing God See what I'm discovering thank you hold it goes I tell you to sort out and take my time maybe I have forgotten about the text when I'm discovering as a pastor is we want Christianity to be light we want to be easy and the minute we hit a bump in the road or the weight gets a little heavier we think something is wrong or not is not the wrong cause the way gets heavy and we just need to learn how to lift some weights come on and talk to me and house it and wonder things that's happening in this study knowing God is we are challenged now because we're getting to see aspects of God's character and we're getting to see places in God's word that we've never had to face or wrestle with before we are in the throes of some tensions some theological tensions that we've never felt before but I want to encourage you today if you would give yourself to the study of God's word God will open it up like you've never known before if you will get yourself to God you will see aspects of him and his character and his personhood that you've never seen before are you in the house with me that Ok I can tell you I don't like that kind of preaching so. Let's get back to Proverbs Chapter 6 beginning at verse 16 as we launch out into this new series Growing Pains these 6 things the Lord hates Yes 7 are an abomination to Him a proud look. I'm lying tongue. Hands that shared innocent blood a heart that devises we could play it's feet that are swift in running to evil a false witness who speaks like us and one who souls discord among the Brotherhood now I want to read those 4 little verses again this time I don't want you to look out the window as somebody else I want you to look in the mirror at yourself. And ask yourself if you can see yourself in anyone or perhaps more than one of any of the 7 things these 6 the ways the Lord hates Yes 7 are an abomination to Him number one a proud of this is what we're going to deal with today. A proud look but I just want to ask you this private exists anywhere in your life in your world. To my tongue now I know you don't I know you don't lie b. . I know you never do that you to save the sanctified member of d.c. B. C. You would never do that. But do you have a tell little white lights. Hands that shed innocent blood I know most of you in here have never taken another human life but have you ever assassinated somebody scared. Have you ever without all of the facts because we live in a place where we say innocent until proven guilty Have you ever without all of the facts came to a conclusion and then perpetuated that conclusion spread it somewhere those are hands that shit innocent blood. A heart that devises We kid plants a millionaire digging a ditch for anybody but have you ever made somebody is way just a little harder because you coud are because you felt like they had did it to you or done it to you and so you did doing thing being you know you don't want to take them out. You just didn't wish the best for you just maybe put a little stumbling block in there maybe cast a little shadow throw in the last saying as they say now maybe you understand that my anger but just cast a little shadow feet that are swift in running to evil a false witness who speaks lives this now has more of a judicial sense and this last piece here on like a lying tongue in the beginning but this has now more of a judicial sense of false witness who speaks of us and one who so discord among the brothers. Today I want to talk from the subject for this sermon hidden figures. If you have not had the opportunity to do so you I want to encourage all of us to go and see this movie hidden figures in fact I think sister Belinda Chandler even as we speak is organizing an event I asked her I would like to take all of our young girls to go and see this movie didn't think. And I'm not just talking about black girls I'm talking about all of our young girls if you have seen it or perhaps even if you haven't seen it you are aware and I want encourage you to see it because this movie is a very very important part of our history not only of black history and not only female history but also of American history are you in the house with me today don't don't pigeonhole this story to just now we're going to talk about how women serve God Now we're going to talk about how black women are black people sir I think that's cheating the car it's a man this is a part of marriage can history a man we all ride on the backs to some degree of this story if you're an American I don't care what color you are a mess I want to encourage you to see it and now I won't spoil it for you but are you saying the trailers you know this is a story about women who were hidden figures in the background during the 1960 s. As America made what we have called at this segment of our history that is commonly calling a race to space it's a race to space and if you've studied American history on any level you don't have to go that far back 7th grade 8th grade some of us it may be a little further back than others and. But you don't have to be a scholar or a man to have heard of this race to space and what it was there was a time and I history when both Russia and the United States were trying to be the 1st ones into space so these women worked in the background and every venue every area of masses that you could think about to aid these astronauts in getting to space are you in the house with me today a man so you need to see and understand this story they can these ladies kid hence the term hidden figures they kept these ladies hidden at that time one because they were women and then 2 because they were black and that was a time in our country where we don't walk with perhaps the same accord that we seek to walk with in our modern day are you with me today and so they pushed these women into the background they they faded into out security. All of the why they were key and crucial to helping our astronauts get to space so that we could be on display for the rest of the world but because of their gender and because of the color of their skin than they were push it. To the fringes. Of notoriety they were pushed in fact that's a good place you ought to just clap your hands for women right now maybe you got a mother sister to just cut your hands for women right now. Like these women help me Holy Ghost who were pushed into a place where they could not be noticed I believe in all of our lives to some degree they are our character traits that are kidding figures they are kidding but they bear are more than we could ever know they bear on our character they are hidden they are hidden in that we don't call them by name but they show up and I actually say they are hidden when When's the last time you heard somebody ever stand up and boldly proclaim you know I really struggle with a proud look was the last time you ever heard some I speak out and say I've got a line tone was the last time you've ever heard somebody during testimony time stand up and confess I like to sow discord among the brother as a matter of fact if you're anything like me it's hard for us as human beings to look this deeply and this closely at our life because we like to exist in the superficial. How you do in the day blessed and highly favored. We like to exist in the superficial. And if we master that question honestly when somebody says How you doing today. The right answer the honest answer probably is well I'm feeling a little anxiety I'm doubtful I'm worried about a few things I'm doing Ok in some other areas of my life and every now and again I'm in love lust. Let's just be real this is just us with guys we're going tell the truth you're months family. Yet these are not figures these are not character traits that we like to etch and outline and highlight and put the spite Why don't us and others to see these are kid figures are you with me now and then let's turn our face toward the text as we begin to look at these hidden figures and I want to dedicate today to dealing with this 1st one this hidden figure this hidden characteristic of pride. If you're anything like me as a matter of fact Alan won't be that judicious today oh of us let me just I want to ease into that and give you a chance to excuse me just step on this more let me just step on the gas oh all of us do or have dealt with pride at some point in our life and own some level of our living and in fact all of us a man in fact it was it was it was it was there even before the beginning began and what I mean by that is before you get to the scene in Genesis chapter 2 where Adam and Eve committed the 1st sin amongst humanity Satan had already been expand from heaven why not because he ate of the tree of forbidden fruit but because his prize rose up. You ought to read it secures prophecy some time if you don't believe me if you don't understand and see how Satan wants Who was this this angel of light Lucifer see. How he was xpand of that from Heather because somewhere on the inside and I'm paraphrasing now somewhere only inside he said to himself I am a smart is God. Somewhere on the inside. He began to elevate his own personal kingdom. To be on par own level with God. Now I know you would never say that out loud I'm as smart as God I'm on the same level with God But if we really would kind of dissect the actions of our life when we can clearly hear God and then disobeyed God What we are saying whether we know it are not Jamal has got I know this better than you. That's what we're saying with our actions. Proud. So let's begin to talk about this hidden figure of pride Here's the 1st thing I want to see and if we are not careful we will jump past this in verse 16 to get to the 7 things or the 6 or 7 things the gun hate but in fact let me just let me just get that real quick before I get into this Proverbs is a book of wisdom so it's not a letter it's not the Gospels it's not narrative like we might find in Genesis or Deuteronomy it's not apocalyptic literature like we might find in Revelation it's not pastoral literature like we might find in the book Timothy our Titus Proverbs is a book of wisdom. So if you can imagine the same and setting in Proverbs would be a kin to one Mike you might see from an only movie you may see a grandmother or grandfather or hear from Texas a Big Daddy or Big Mama sitting out on the porch with their grandchild on their needy sitting in their rocker and proverbs is Big Mama or Big Daddy saying Baby let me talk to. This is not this is not to be interpreted like we do some other forms of biblical literature it does not actualize if you will these are not commandments and proverbs is often misinterpreted because we interpret Probert as promises rather than principles so one that you're familiar with Proverbs 22 we learn this and be to you train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he shall not depart from these and we could change to that verse in the product times of our children's lives and what we have been taught it means is if I raise my child in church and if I raise them in God And we've even heard people say this they may stray but they'll come back that's not what it means that's not a promise that if we have reared our child a certain way it guarantees certain results that bears on our salvation the ology right because salvation is God's idea and God's idea alone you can not Program Guide to do anything. And so a better interpretation of Proverbs $22.00 would be this. If you programmed your child a certain way. Chances are more likely than not you lay the foundation that I want to come back to. That guarantees it but I want to come back to our Proverbs 6 look at the end who gathers and stars up in the time of summer so when harvest time comes they have something this is no guarantee that if you say a calamity of life won't come along and wipe out your life savings in an instant this is a principle that saying yes it's going away one day. And if you spin everything you have today when the rain comes you are having. So Proverbs is a book of principles so now we've come to this place in Proverbs Chapter 6 and Solomon starts with his wisdom he says these 6 things does God hates and 7 are an abomination to Him I want to be clear this is not the writer spontaneously changing his mind to say it was 60 no wait a minute I mean it was said that's not what this is this is what we call parallel misses and parallelism is the hallmark of Hebrew poetry and wisdom literature and what parallelism is when you're staying with me I'm going somewhere where you're staying with me a man are you still with me Ok I want to make sure I don't lose you before we get to the test what parallelism is it is a literary device used for emphasis if you for persuasion so he's not literally saying and then 6 things makes God a lot more angry and when you hit number 7 that's the straw that breaks the camel's back that's not with the same he's trying to draw us into the text and bring our attention and the focus an emphasis of this little paragraph is to say these are 7 things that really bothers God Now the question here isn't is it 6 or 7 the entire a question here that I really wrestled with this week as our south a lot about this passage is what is it about these 7 particular things. That gets under God's Skin. Are you ready for the answer. This is heavy Now if you take a notes this is no word this is this is deep into Hebrew. No theology here ready I don't know. I don't know and I want to resist the temptation to over interpret the text I want to start with the bible starts God does not give us insight as to why these certain thing gets under his skin but here is what I want to see and it brings me to my 1st point number one. We must learn to hate the things that God hates that matter why he hates them doesn't matter why they are on his list what matters is that we align our thinking to the thinking of God Now this is a special me this is especially a big deal in my life and in my walk right now because I've been sharing this with you over the last several months of how God is kind of interrupted my journey and is and is now working on me personally and one of the areas that God is working on me is in shaping and reshaping my mind and as I have looked at my history going all the way back to my childhood and now coming into early young adulthood and now hopefully a little more mature as I looked at one of the things that I realized is I had poor models not making excuses just an honest evaluation I had poor models of what it really meant to say out to God. I had poor models of what discipleship really was about and in fact let me just ask the question how many people by sure hands can say after you got say you really had somebody to take you under their wing and truly disciple you they taught you how to study the Bible they taught you how to pray they talked about the spiritual disciplines all are where you like me just kind of thrown out into deep water and say this is how you learn how to swim how many people can say they were really discipled very very few of us and so many how can I go deeper and be transparent. Yelling a b. Bad at me from transparent Ok. So now as our mature into adulthood now and now my kids are you know some of them have crossed the line into being legal. Notice I didn't say grown. Grown people pay on bills. They see their own way. A man I didn't say grown but a couple of America have crossed the line and to be a legal and now I'm looking back at my life and I'm looking at my formative years in Christendom and in the ministry and I'm saying and God is saying and showing me there's a piece here this Miss you didn't learn. To take me as seriously as you should. And now God is having to dig up some of my foundation. To relate. Now God is having to refile or Each some of my perspective on life and ministry. Can anybody identify with what I'm told.
