Traffic is moving smoothly at the 95 to 15 southbound ramp on the spaghetti bowl now. But in about 3 and a half hours. It will all be closed down. Mauricio marin is there with todays top story to tell us what drivers can expect. And what why this work is being done. Mauricio. Mauricio Marin the ramp connecting 95 will close at 10 tonight. The friday rush hour commute is just now starting to die down. But with the ramp shutting down for 36 hours. Things will likely be slowing down even more than usual around the spaghetti bowl. Mauricio Marin the closures are needed to get the bridge portion of the ramp ready for demolition. So two lanes leading to southbound interstate 15 have to be shifted to the east. The bridge that crosses over symphony park avenue that will get torn down is about 20 years old and needs to go because we spoke with ndot workers this afternoon. They say with more than 300thousand cars driving between the spaghetti bowl and sahara every single day. Theres a lot of potential for car crashes. And tell us the new freeway design once completed should help make the road safer to drive on. tony illia ndot part of what this project will do is eliminate some of the merge and weave traffic and make it a little safer. Were going to be building a new charleston interchange. Anyone who has gotten off the charleston exit knows it can be nightmarish. Mauricio Marin ndot crews say when project neon is completedit should also help reduce traffic by nearly 30percent. And with major Road Construction now starting for the projectndot folks are asking for drivers to be patient behind the wheel.
