Mauricio Marin many concerned parents have been stopping off to get clothes and shoes tested. Some are upset knowing their child could have been exposed to mercury much longer than first thought. The epa uses machines that sniff out mercury. And can detect very small traces. Theyre going from classroom to classroom checking mercury levels. Many parts of the school have been deemed saf levels of mercury are being heated so the substance can evaporate. A lot of parents we spoke with say the School District didnt communicate what was going on during the ordeal. And even grew frustrated at last nights parent meeting. Ccsd superintendent Pat Skorkowsky says it was meant to answer questions oneonone. Pat Skorkowsky ccsd superintendent the forum that we tried yesterday was recommended by the epa to allow parents to have individual questions answered instead of just being able to sit there and be frustrated about a Group Setting and not get their questions he also says district staff has been working today to reach out to parents that are still upset. At the same time the epa is still in the process of screening more than onethousand bags of shoes and clothes from students.
