But unlike, a shooting or an earthquake. Im going to give you 4 keys to identifying sweepstakes scams. Number one. If you didnt enter it. You sure didnt win it. Number two. Anytime youre asked to pay fees or taxes up front. Its a scam. Younever pay those up front. Number three. Youll never bs prepaid card if it is a legit scam. And four. If they want your bank account information. Its defintiely a scam. Legit sweepstakes do not send winnings via direct deposit. Thats against the law. So now you know. How to identify a scam from a real sweepstakes win. I also know more about how and why this happened. I read parts of the la city attorneys complaint. And it turns out wells fargo employees had to meet strict quotas and that why those 53 hundred employees created the fake accounts. But less than 5 percent resulted in any fees. In fact the whole practice only earned about 2. 4 million. Roughly a buck 14 an account according to the Consumer Protection bureaus order. Still the l. A. City attorneys claims these fees may have resulted in damaged credit for some. The bigger issue for many customers now. Is what to do next. Because no matter what this was an invasion of privacy.
