Can't see the. Q. They're great to me with spoon concerts these are recordings that were done in 1959. Half of the album recorded in a club down in Los Angeles called Renaissance club and the other half which we didn't listen to recorded at the Monterey Jazz Festival in October of 1989 so the stuff that we did listen to 1st the line up Jimmy Witherspoon as a vocalist and then just a phone book of jazz greats Roy Eldridge on the trumpet Ben Webster on the tenor saxophone Coleman Hawkins on the tenor saxophone Coleman Hawkins essentially invented tenor saxophone solo work and brought it into the forefront as a major instrument back in the. Late 1920 s. . And early 1930 s. Coleman Hawkins and Hawkins continually evolved and played with young musicians throughout his career continually reinventing himself he even played with some of the on my card players in the early part of the 1960 s. Coleman Hawkins on the tenor saxophone and Woody Herman is here on the clarinet Earl Father Hines is the piano player Vernon alley on the bass Mel Lewis on the drums sensational lineup. This was a Wednesday night in December. Wednesday night this is what was happening in 1959 that's really amazing 2 different days December 2nd December 9th both Wednesday night so 1959 Renaissance club in Los Angeles the album again Jimmy Witherspoon the spoon concerts this is put out by Fantasy Records and. Oh. Are big your part. That'll teach me to read the stuff before I go and Mike that line up that sensational line up was the stuff that we didn't hear so what we did here as spectacular as it is other stuff is even better. Jimmy Witherspoon vocals Jerry Mulligan as the baritone saxophone as Ben Webster is on the 10 tenor saxophone Jimmy Rowles. Salute national treasure of a piano player vocalist Jimmy Rowles spelt our old w l e s so looks like Raul's plate is pronounced rolls to me rolls on the piano the right vinegar on bass and no Louis on the drums on both the it's.
