When you see the. I'm doing good it's going to be fun today. This is your 1st time in this rotation Yeah it's a long tradition I sent out my blog. And I gave a history of it but when there's a 5th. Of all the way back to 1990 who was who was the original sidekick. Leslie. But she left after a couple of years but before she left she established our blues in June she did the 1st one and she then she did a 2nd one so that means it was a. Celeb night was the one 1st started out the marathon marathons Yeah we had marathons before that but they weren't. A departmental thing so that was the 1st one of that I remember early on I did a Mardi Gras. Actually called a cart of all but so we did have this book Wonder how they raise money for the station before the. Same i.c. And yeah we did some marathons but that was. Maybe just as much celebratory. As . You know it was fundraising but of course both. So you know anything planned for today oh yeah I got some off the wall stuff nice old album. Probably a pretty rare recording from Europe in the late sixty's the Chicago Blues Band which is Sonny land slim Willie Dixon Clifton James Johnny Shines. And John Lee Hooker nice so we're going to get into that and I've got another album that I'll tell you about when we got around to it but a little more on that. Leslie was replaced of course by Johnny cosmic and Johnny was here for about 15 years and he continued to tradition of doing the 5th Wednesdays Jim Ferris came in he asked Johnny to shift because Jim had to. Work on flex so the Wednesday show would work out better for him but it was still a problem so he didn't come in when he didn't have to so he wouldn't do the 5th Wednesdays and ultimately the conflict got to him so he had to give it up when Paul Johnson came in and he was probably there for about 5 years and of course he shared the 5th Wednesdays which was great because I knew Paul back in 1970 of course I met you about 20 some years you know so. I'm really comfortable fits in this and it's going to be a great time sharing it with you my friend and look forward to it and. I played some Otis Rush earlier and now we're playing some lightning swim so I'm going to alternate into you. Going to come back in here in a little bit and do your thing yeah Ok so I'll hang out here a little bit and talk with the people play some music and then. They can hear from you here in a little bit all right and it will be that Chicago blues ground that I mention will save the John Lee Hooker songs for the end of the show you're listening to k k u p Cupertino 91.5 and I don't know what you call this double split show I call it a 51 stray it's on the blues show yeah right Ok so let's continue on with some lightning swims tune called wintertime blues give us more Otis Rush and switch it up. We're right back. Oh. You. Can't you. To. 7 Lead. The I. Want. All right girl yeah sounded good but a lot of Otis Rush there for you a little bit of Magic Sam in there too you know the sort of love Him Yeah man. So what do you there was another guy that had that same kind of deal magic Sammy and Otis Rush and other guy and trying to. I just had a lot of my song well just put him together with Buddy Guy and Jimmy Don Jimmy fast fingers trucker that was just because they had that carry you know I was going to do a triple threat on those 3 today and I left out the Jimmy doc and several more of interest still a few more minutes left on the show you know I just like that kind of tone those guys I don't know if it's a left handed thing. Oh are they all left handed I think maybe. I never thought about it. I mean Albert King was laughter Jimi Hendrix I didn't think any of them were but I I could be wrong now all the cell research on the breaking 2nd the only one I ever saw was older Serato you got to see I seen him in San Francisco right before he he did a big video on an album of cameras but and that get some tickets to go and there I was 1st time I went to where they had when they were filming with t.v. Cameras and take in breaks in between telling people to dance and it's you know I saw him at San Jose State and a friend of yours gave me a photo of him he said I have to dig up because there was a really good photos of oxter Oh yeah so he was a d.j. Here yeah back when Exactly yeah I thought before I came along before you I was tending bar on Sunday nights he was on Monday mornings so I'd finish my shift and. Swing by to help him close out his show so yeah that's and I did you know that yeah he finally got tired of me and said Get your own license and get your own show and he didn't quite phrase it like that but it sounds better if I make it sound like it so yeah he's a good old friend of mine. Happy to hear that you've got a gig coming up I know it's way too soon to announce it yeah yeah right at the poor house Friday night over the poor house on the street band yeah we're starting to come along here and. I've been a good time with this band here also have the daily on trio that we've been playing the barbecue Supt in Santa Cruz and keeping busy to thank the barbecue guys for keeping us busy over this so all right yeah well it's nice that you can play close enough for me to come and visit and have a couple of beers and still claim to drive home. Yet where time is hard to keep the gigs roll in so what that the Avatar street in the Mission Street barbecue have been gracious enough to give us keep us working over there during the winter time here so. It's nice to keep keep it keep the ball rolling and. You know you take time out sometimes it's get a little rusty sometimes oh yeah. Ok Johnny has been able to build up a really tight band because rain able to gigs coming in that way keeps him working Johnny is the Jaycees Smith band has a gig this Saturday night up at biscuits and Blues in San Francisco so if you get a chance go check him out I did go check you guys out and I haven't seen the Bentley Street Band except maybe a couple of times here and there lose marathon. And I'm a little bit too busy to to. To pay that much attention but when I went out and saw you the Friday before Halloween I believe it was a Friday I was really impressed you got some really good players you've got it down tight and I just enjoyed the heck out of it so I guess I meant to mention that before but hey this Exadata why Thank you Danny that it took allows traded out a couple of players here and there and you find you find your players after a while and I think I got the right guys here now so. Keep your eyes and ears open for the Benton Street Blues Band All right you still get together with the junk kings. Not lately hopefully will do something but then right now I love this little project with these guys and have been having a ball with these guys here and I'm pretty sure we'll get back together if someday in the cause they are yeah you know I mean without those guys I mean I was with them for maybe 56 years and got a lot of. Playing time with them and a lot of experience playing in a in a cool band and you know they're the jump Kings jump Kings Yes Well Dave charges based player and Marvin green the guitar player were in a band with Johnny Carson mc a long time ago called the jump tones Let me jump in gun here. Gary Smith was on harmonica Johnny was still playing drums back then as a matter of fact I What a band and it sounds posted Morris on piano nice Yeah that was good times as you get together and noun I felt like a cool band yeah anyway I always enjoyed the John King's as well start. Any band the gills and go out and support them because it's good music and he's he's helping the blues stay alive here on the radio and in the clubs and I want to thank Jamie Durie over the poorhouse bistro for all he does for the blues community and does a lot and he's actually got 2 rooms now actually the the porch stage and then the the studio now so yeah I haven't seen the studio Yeah so one of these days somebody I know will be playing there and I'll go see. Well. Did you announce your play list or yeah we just did that last Otis Rush there. Oh I can read it off if you want because you know good right I'm in we're now. Writing down each tumor plane here at the station so sometimes some guys just wait to the show's over in the region do the whole show on . On the computer but I try and get it all done so yeah yeah but the fact is it takes 45 minutes to an hour to type in a whole theory hour show Trust me I know and that's if I don't get any phone calls Yeah so anyway what I have here is I can't quit your baby all your love and cross-cut saw all by Otis Rush I thought you did a couple of tunes by Magic Sam but I only say Look what you've done. And you're breaking my heart went out so this next Sat I mentioned when Gil and I were talking about the Chicago Blues Band we're going to open up with an ensemble number which is Chicago but the style then Sonny landslip was going to. Do a little singing while he's sitting behind his piano or tune called She's Got i thing go on 29 ways to my favorite bass player Well he did. Wrote all the great songs are all in Wolf and Muddy Waters and turned to wander the Rolling Stones The Yardbirds the animals you know. The drummer Clifton James a good old Chicago drummers going to come on and sing We we ours the guitar player for the Sat was Johnny Shines he's going to do fat mamma and then they're going to close out the south and the show with a thing called Reba be another ensemble thing and then later on the 1st 5 songs on the cd those guys back up John Lee Hooker song Wind up to show us some live John Lee Hooker but years that the late sixty's it's not it's not specific I Willie Dixon set up the American blues American Folk Blues Festival tours in the in Europe back around 62 on at least through 72 hey I think he was in charge of those so I have all of those and I looked it up to try and figure out exactly what year but it was the lineup that particular lineup doesn't show at any one time. Anyway. Well look forward to hearing this right stuff sounds good to me let's see. 'd RINGBACK. Right. I mean. Right now we're going to do a bang.
