Well. It's not really I'm not going to draw the line on the Flathead obviously you wouldn't. You wouldn't pick a guy who who might be. 25 years old yeah he was and he was right I think you pick somebody who's got gray hair I think pick somebody who's been in the business a long time but but let me tell you the other side of the coin does a side of the coin is this. The Flathead uses spark fuel and compression and they all have to be timed to prop appropriately your flat head motor is no different than a Honda 4 cylinder of a brand new Honda car Ok it's just no different the difference in your flat head is we're running the vows and off the cam in the block and the difference and the Honda has had it has overhead valves but what kind of tell me what kind of problems you're experience when with them actually right now with the motor it's beautiful and runs as smooth as can be but I know someday I may have to have someone look at it and I was just trying to be a little proactive here and and you know pick your brain on a shop if I if I did have a problem with it I'm might you know steer and i direction I have a couple of other older cars not as old as this but I have noticed occasionally go to shops and they're not particularly fond of working on older cars they like to do the newer ones and so I thought Here I thought I'd heard you talk about somebody that was actually pretty 1st unblocking flatbeds and so I thought I'd pick your brain on that I do have one problem with the car it's the one of the rear brake lights does not come on when you push the brake the turn signal works the backup lights work the parking light works with the running lights or whatever. I noticed that you know the same wire that does the turn signal does the brake light and I course have in an intermittent power blanking power when it when its turn signal time but break time I got no power on that on that line do you have a have a hint or tip or idea Well it's it's important understand how it's wired and without a schematic I'm going to guess that Ok Pretty sure I'm dying for sure that's what I'm doing too Ok go ahead Ok so you apply the brake and we're going to send that power through the turn signal switch to both brake lights when you turn on your turn signals it's still going to come up through the column but it's going to split . That at the turn signal switch in Blink the right the real question is do we have blinking back there we have 12 volts back there this point can on that circuit so on the brake circuit So you're saying that the parking at the break and the turn signal works but the brake light by itself doesn't work. Right I ask you to get to turn the lights on that's like lights out if you turn the turn signal on it signals but if you just push on the brake pedal that backlight does not light Ok I have checked so again Ok Ok again we have turn signal all the time and in your saying that we use so you have a double filament bulb in the tail light of your car I do. Ok All right well I mean I this is ing actually hard the this is this isn't really hard but I can tell you where the problems that I I think you started to brake light switch and work your way backwards and I think if you examine the socket really really well and I think you chop the bulbs from left to right and if the sockets unplugged in which take the passenger off and put on the driver and see if the problem moves with the sockets there's just so many but but really and truly somebody with a volt meter and and the needle from your wife's sewing cabinet that we can stick through the wires and you know and and figure out what's you know inside of them that's going to be easy easy getting back to your flat head though or oil changes and cooling systems and all that kind of stuff is no different the only time you're going to need a gray haired guy is when it idles roughly or it won't crank cold it won't crank hot it won't start cold it won't start hot Those are the times that just you're going to need help what part of town do you live in I live in a round shape and I want to one cheek but he can't even afford the one I want 3 it's got I think Blackwell at 40th Street and Greenway would be your best bet he's just north of Greenway on 40th Street I'm he he doesn't have any hair but if it he did have here to Grady and I'm going to reform him Ok and I I I think I think and I think that this brake light issue I think it's going to cost and I'm just of their own numbers I could be $10.00 it could be $50.00 and it's going to cost a buck and a half to fix it doesn't know I it's $1.00 of those things that the entire amount now could be a bad brake light switch if that's the case we can usually way around that so we can tag up the brake light on the right to the brake light on left unless of course that circuits open and then the church signals would be affected so Blackwell could pull that off Ok thanks a lot Mark. He failed the mission test on his 92 suburban and he took it in to a shop to see what you know what he had to do to get it to pass and they told him I needed a new catalytic converter vacuum or a bowl and a valve and have a estimate it's going to cost him $1100.00 as that sounds like a fair figure I don't even care about the figure dentist I think you need to worry more about the diagnosis do you do you have any idea if they failed c.e.o. H.d. Or knocks or all 3 or only one do you know. He said that the bottom one what I read is Ok I was thinking that's an a wax knocks. What it sounds like to me is it's a shock and repaired because if he passed c.e.o. In h.c. The 1st of all if you pass if you fail c.e.o. Well I'm going to I'm going to stand up for you and for them you can't fix what's not there when you're looking so you know that's kind of like me telling you I got to roughly Clint it's raining but it ain't rain and I don't I think well here's the here's the good news 100 years ago I bought a Suburban with a 454 in it and I put have blower on it so I had a super charger on it so I had a chance Rishon problem I took it in and they opened up the hood and the shook their heads and they said Mark you just avoided all your warranty and I said I know but just figure out what this is so we went through this for 3 or 4 years and I had this same transmission problem for 3 or 4 years so my of warranty was over and some time later the transmission completely failed and so I took it back to the same dealer because I had a good relationship with them and this is what they did they called me up and they said we see you had quite a few. Times it's been in for a transmission problem and we've got the transmission on the ground and what's happened is the snap ring broken allowed the bushing to go into the left side of the ventricle which allowed the toenails to grow longer and they were just speaking all this jibberish to me and I said Ok so what at the end of all of this where we at Hugo's we're going to fix your transmission for free and I said Wow And he says Mark you had you had an in 5 times and the symptoms now match what we find in there so had I not taken it back again and again I wouldn't have got that but if you show a problem in during warranty period and then hopefully once or twice and then all of a sudden you're out of warranty and they go oh well yeah they are conditioning compressor is bad and all along you were complaining about the air conditioning you point in back to the 2 repairs you had 3 repair or the 3 efforts they made right and I think most of them will jump to it so just do your best to do that but learn how to make it happen that if you can do that all right Ok Well Ok Mark thank you.
