Going to for a one k. Financial goals in this affair I want to. Horrify you right now listen if winning the lottery were easy everyone would do it when it comes to financial stability don't get left behind good tools and tips for saving that feed the pig got org This message brought to you by the American Institute of C.P.A.'s on the i've Council this is a paid program that is provided for informational purposes only. She's smart savvy and a serial entrepreneur and would never leave your story. There's America's money ace of the year ways Victoria McVeigh. Good evening Arizona and if you are new to the show we are here every Sunday night 960 the Patriot teaching you how to spend properly both money and time with your family now other people will show you how to save and although that's important if you don't learn how to spend wisely your money won't go far I am taking the minutiae out of creating margin of time and money in your home and personal life and you should care because I am here to maximize the dollars at the wealth you already have a part of living well for many people is spending money on travel this is how you reconnect disconnect get back to who you are and you know have some family time I love to travel and so I like to share not only great travel deals but things you can do off the beaten path to reconnect that don't cost much and provide that bang for your buck so each week we talk about enriching your life through a product service or system as well that can help you buy your time back and we have. The household hustler highlight this week too so your health is your greatest wealth and how to protect it is important as well so be sure to follow me on my Facebook Victoria make of a and or you can go to my website Victoria McVey dot com If you really want to dig in and join us I'm getting the newsletter going and the book the household hustlers Handbook will be out soon so this week in our show my vacation vault is on Zion National Park. Now it is this is the weekly travel segment but whether you fly to your destination or drive there are always Road Trips to take so my experience was with you are what's really important so that I can share you know how to really read bond with your family you know it is barely the producer and I were just talking about it is there's barely any evidence out yet because we're all in the middle of this sort of test with technology and seeing what the after effects are but I can say that I noticed personally and it is showing even in meetings and in dealing with your family when people are unplugged they actually look each other in the face their communication skills are better and the memories are better when you have your phone now you have your i Pad out you know tech is kind of the enemy of connection so I really want everybody to pay attention so that we can really get back to some of these traditional family values to reconnect with people we love so. This week Zion National Park is what we're talking about and Zion Canyon and all of the fun things you can do all right so Zion National Park is in the southwest Utah area near the city of Springdale the 229 square mile park is nature's is a nature preserve and distinguished by Zion canyons steep red cliffs and Zion Canyon scenic drive is one way to get to Zion Canyon very beautiful traffic congestion in the narrow canyon was recognized as a major problem in the 1990 s. And public transportation system using a propane powered shuttle buses buses were instituted in the year 2000 as a as a solution so as part of this shuttle fleet Xi'an has 2 electric trams usually from April through late October the scenic drive in Zion Canyon is closed to private vehicles and visitors ride the shuttle buses Zion Canyon scenic drive cuts through its main section leading to forest trails along the Virgin River the river flows to the Emerald pools which have waterfalls and hanging gardens. So along the river is the Narrows waiting hike. Really cool as well the park is located at the junction of the Colorado Plateau Great Basin and most of the Mojave desert regions it has a unique geography and a variety of life zones desert riparian woodland and coniferous forest you'll meet you'll find many plant species among 300 species of birds 75 mammals and 32 types of reptiles watch out for some of those. For those of you that don't love their reptiles I like some of them but so Zion National Park includes mountains canyons Butte maces monoliths Rivers slot canyons and natural arches streams in the area take rectangular pass because they follow jointing plains on in the rocks it's really beautiful guys and spring weather is unpredictable with Stormy wet days being common mixed with occasional warm sunny weather rain is normally heaviest in March so don't try to you know travel there over spring break there is much this is probably more of a little bit of a summer place because spring wildflowers brew Bloom from April through June so if your spring break is more in April you're a little better off that March is the month you want to avoid fall days are usually clear and mild and nights are often a little bit on the cooler side for those of us here in Arizona summer days are getting hot up to 110 degrees but overnight lows are usually comfortable afternoon thunderstorms are common from mid July through mid September. So to be honest with you honestly it seems like to me the only month not to go is because you can't really get out as much is when it rains in March Zion Canyon is 15 miles long and around 2600 feet deep the road into the canyon is 6 miles long in addition to viewing the breathtaking scenery you can take guided horseback riding trips nature walks and hikes in Zion Canyon the grotto in Zion Canyon the visitor center and the view point at the end of Colo canyons road have the only designated picnic sites so if you're bringing a lot cooler or hanging out with the family you know the beauty of these kind of places as well is that you don't have great reception so as we've been talking about you know you can disconnect and reconnect with your family and friends get out into nature and really experience your life and you know what this earth has to offer as well as having that special family and memory making time without. You know something going off and you're distracted so getting back to my moment on off the soapbox getting back to Zion Canyon 7 trails with a round trip times of an hour to up to 4 hours are found in the canyon so if you're more on the you know of an hour kind of person on certain days and other days I'm raring to go if you've got a little bowl of coffee and yes but you know if you're ready for a 4 hour trip that you can also do that as well to popular trails Taylor Creek and colo arch are in the colo by Canyon section of the park and that's k o l o b if you want to look that up near Cedar City the more primitive sections of Zion include Colo terrace and the colo canyons a network of trails totaling 50 miles in distance connected Zions northwest corner of the park to its southwest section popularly known as the Zion traverse the route offers backpackers a diverse experience of the park Zion is a center for rock climbing with short walks like touchstone moonlight buttress space shot and prodigal son being very popular. I myself like a little bit of that kind of climbing but I've got to have a solid belayer below me or I've got problems for those of you that don't know who that what that is that's somebody holding the rope to make sure that you're hanging on tight because I'm not super graceful but it is an exciting thing to try rock climbing on a on a little bit easier you know slope especially for those of you that just want to to nj of adventure something you've never done before it's really really cool so at lodging in the park is is available at Zion lodge located halfway through Zion Canyon there are 3 campgrounds available south and watchman at the far southern side of the park and a primitive site at lava point in the middle of the park off Colo trail Terrace Road overnight camping in the back a back country requires permits lodging food and entertainment are also offered on the east side of the park through Zion Mt can't Carmel highway and Mount Carmel junction and adjacent to the park on the south side of the town of Springdale Utah which there they offer services such as lodging food and entertainment but I will say this you know just as a little side note here if you are thinking about getting a camper you know this is something that's really becoming popular for a lot of folks out there and the reason is is that you know you can still continue to bond with your family you load the groceries in you just park and you can hang out in your camper so this is something you know. You can really test out they have campers for rent I will go through some of that on my Facebook site to help some of you folks out that are thinking about it and go through you know the pros and cons of camper verses hotel vs air b.n. B. And as far as the connect disconnect and getting the. Most out of your dollar and out of your family time so I look for that on my Facebook site all right now let's talk about Jeep tours guided tours are available to take you through the back country of Zion National Park and they take you to places that other travelers may have never had the opportunity to experience so this is something that you can look back and take mental pictures real pictures but learn from the expert guides about the flora fauna history and geology of this dramatic region throughout your Southern Utah Jeep tour talk about a unite you know kind of unique experience for your family now if you want to camp in style Zion luxury camping offers a very unique experience can't be with luxury tents Now I myself have not done a super luxury tent a little bit but nothing like glam paying for those of you don't know what that is that's another level but each of these each of these sites are designated with a great with great care to provide the best possible experience they'll even tell you about the many beautiful hidden trails that only locals know about there are also 5 other national parks within a 2 hour radius of Zion on luxury camping that are just as beautiful and if you want to be able to do everything it's recommended you allow $5.00 to $7.00 days for your trip to Zion National Park if you're an avid hiker take your time visiting popular and strenuous day hikes such as angels landing Zion narrows day hike and observation point trail now if you've missed any part of the show we're packing it in today I want you to get the most out of your time with your family and disconnecting from all the tech We're coming right back with the Victoria McVeigh show so buckle in put that backpack on and strap in we're ready to come back with you right here on Victoria make a show. Welcome back folks to Victoria McVey show we are talking about Zion National Park and how this is one of the places it's great it's nearby for all of you Arizona and you can reach it easily you don't have to take a flight you can drive there and that is what these this section of the trip at the trip with you on Sunday nights is about is essentially disconnecting and from your tack and reconnecting with your family and that is the best way to do it lock them in a car for several hours make some stops along the way and get somewhere cool and get out into nature so we're talking about Zion National Park there here's what it costs to get in it is $12.00 per person for a 7 day pass but not to exceed a $25.00 fee for a family so most buses R.V.'s trailers and dual wield trucks require an escort to travel through Zion on to you through the Mt Carmel tunnel and there is a $15.00 fee per vehicle in addition to the entrance fee though now I am going to share with you some fun things to do on the way to Zion National Park Like I said you know it's not about the destination it's about the journey so you know we really on the show here try to give you some things about getting to. To your destination that are really cool because most people just fly by get to where they're going get their internet and phone back up and you know they're just back to their daily routine in somewhere different this is about getting back to connecting with people that you care about getting out in nature and making cool stops along the way so it doesn't seem like a treacherous drive so I am talking about Zion National Park and Zion Canyon in my vacation vault segment tonight if you are driving from Phoenix to the park the most direct route is 377 miles and takes over 6 hours to get there of course that's without stopping part of the fun of a road trip is stopping along the way and exploring things before getting to the destination the most direct route is traveling north on I 17 to us 89 before taking a few routes ending on what is it I guess it's. 9 West which is a toll road that leads to the park so driving through the east side of Zion National Park to us Route 89 allows access to Bryce Canyon National Park in the north or north rim of the Grand Canyon to the south due to the narrowness of Zion Mt Carmel the my Zion Mt Carmel tunnel R.V.'s and buses must obtain a special pass and can only drive through the tunnel during limited hours there's a lot of history in the small towns and communities along the section of us $89.00 that is known as the Utah heritage highway the towns include Hatch Glendale order Ville Carmel Mt Carmel junction and Canaveral. So can now have is the largest of the bunch by by far with a population of around 3 whole 1000 people it's a located on canat Creek just north of the Arizona state line the 14 square mile area was 1st settled in 1864 and the town was founded in 1970 can now have is situated in the Grand Circle area centrally located among the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument Bryce Canyon National Park the Grand Canyon Zion National Park and the Lake Powell supercool this Grand Circle area locals refer to as the little Hollywood due to its history as the filming location for many movies and television series prominently Westerns such as stagecoach from 1939 The Lone Ranger Death Valley Days gun smoke and so on this scenery has lowered filmmakers to Canal for nearly 80 years Ok As a side note guys this is a place to stop you know pull over with your r.v. If this is your lifestyle to r.v. With your family this is a place not to be missed abandoned film sets near the town have become a tourist attractions so the buildings all over town have plenty of movie posters and autographed photos the little Hollywood museum is free it's a nonprofit museum dedicated to preserving movie sets from can absolve the days of film production. Peekaboo slot canyon is also really really neat It's 9 miles north of Canal along Highway $89.00 and it is the perfect off the beaten path adventure it has been referred to as an a low can you without the crowds 4 wheel drive is required and hiring a local guide is highly recommended for those of you that don't understand 4 wheel drive I had a recent Experian. With this please make sure that you have 4 wheel drive or you hire someone with 4 wheel drive as it is terrible to get stuck although it could be a very memorable family experience in taking pictures and having to get your car towed so if you enjoy the fun family mishaps then go ahead and try it without 4 wheel drive if you don't you know stick to this recommendation so new year by Mt Carmel boasts the home that artist minored Dixon and his wife Edith built walk the mountain trails where Maynard Dixon spent quiet reflective moments and experienced beautiful views in Maine or Dixon County 5 miles south of from Canal in Angel Canyon is the largest sanctuary for homeless animals in the country Best Friends Animal Society is open to the public year round for adoptions tours and volunteer opportunities for those of you that are real animal advocate type people I love my dog he was almost a rescue in a sense he'd been passed around from pet shop to pet shop and was no longer the cute puppy so we still bought him but it was a sense he was about ready to go to the you know a pound so you know for those of you that are really you know into adopting animals this is a great place to go this Emma repeated it is called the. Animal see if I'm sorry Best Friends Animal Society and it is open year round for adoption tours and volunteers and it is really really cool guys get out there and that's probably a great place to show your kids as well and especially if you guys are looking to adopt a family pet around the holidays and getting out and maybe making a whole experience of that you know you could call ahead and see you know what kind of animals they have as well so one of southern Utah has a truly great drives as well is the Johnson Canyon Road it stretches north from Highway 89 and provides excellent vantage points for for the colorful clips cliffs for which the grand staircase region is particularly known. Ok so if you have missed any part of the show I would like you to please go to my Facebook site and check it out I'm also going to be featuring you know one of the 4 I am a business owner here in Arizona and someone that I follow as well as many small business owners is somebody called Simon Sinek and I'm going to be featuring his speech about tech and it's really the underbelly of why I do this show as far as reconnecting with your family and getting out there and experiencing your life but also for those of you that are listening that are small business owners listen this speech is really really great and he can help you see what's going on in disconnecting and reconnecting with both your family coworkers etc well be right back this is Victoria make a show. Which. In my household housework highlight this week I want to talk about substitutes for laundry detergent I am not a fan of using types of chemicals I have kids you know this is all your pores are they suck at all and so even when it. Comes to cosmetics studies show that regular leading brands of laundry detergents contain harmful chemicals which can lead to negative health effects such as skin and throat irritation one of the most harmful chemicals found in laundry detergent is one for dioxin this chemical which is found in paints and foreign issues is found in leading brands of laundry detergent and that a huge e.p.a. Person but they consider this solvent a human carcinogen high levels of exposure to this chemical according to the e.p.a. Have caused Vertigo drowsiness headache and irritation of the eyes nose throat and lungs in humans this may also irritate the skin so even though the detergent is used to wash our clothes some that might be left over in your clothes and washing cycles and there are cute if side effects to these chemicals such as inhaling it or even having direct contact to the skin other dangerous substances can lead to other significant health health problems once they come into contact with your skin so I have some natural ways to get your clothes clean even if you continue to buy your favorite detergent at least you have an alternative in case you run out you can't get to the store if you're in a pinch you don't have time to wash in a natural way you can use shampoo about one 3rd cup of shampoo will do a full load Do not use dishwashing liquid I have done that and walked into a laundry room full of sides and for those of you men out there your wife's out of town or you know ladies if you just burst out on your own This is a problem so make sure you don't use dishwashing Lish liquid in a pinch but if you'd like to go to my Facebook site I will have the recipes on how to get you know all of these great detergents natural with pretty so if you pick out that's natural So what we write back with the Arizona Don't miss our show. Because of $960.00 the patron to. Mad. I. I. I I. I welcome back to Arizona to the Victoria McVey show as you probably know by now if you listen to the show each week for those of you that are like me I love to jog even on vacation and I'm always looking for devices to keep me safe 5 to you know I'm not a Jew did sue expert yet working on that but here's the thing these devices that I talk about each week you know for those of you I have a girlfriend who canceled a trip to Billy's she was a little frightened to go on her own and you know just getting out at night or if you're worried about your kids being out riding their bikes These are things that you can use to keep your family safe to keep you safe so that you don't feel like you're in lockdown in your own house or on vacation like you got to just run back to the hotel or run back to your camp or you know there are things to see at night too for those of us here in Arizona some of us I'm not one of these people because I would have a nightmare doing this but my kids love it black lighting you know at night in the desert to see those scorpions is one of my son's things they like to do but I like to be able to see them and make sure that they are safe and make sure they don't get hit by a car you know all of these things so these are things not just for someone like me you can use them for family for gifts for friends for their kids you know have some extras laying around if you have kids over towards the evening hours so these are all kinds of products to make sure you can get out and experience your freedom now with a combination of 360 degree illumination reflectivity and fluorescents the tracer 360 s offers outstanding eye catching visibility it is unique it has. Multi-colored l.e.d. Lights that allow you to switch between 6 different high visibility color options including red green orange pink purple and blue with the touch of a button you can also change the different flashing modes to get drivers to really notice you you the unique shape of the lights provides for a large visibility area making you visible from over a quarter mile in all directions made of a light wheat lightweight and breathable mesh this vessel ause for a full range of motion as well so you're not going to be inhibited whether you're running walking cycling or doing any other activity in the early morning or at night I prefer to go at night it's cooler and it seems more I don't know nostalgic to be out at night so this extremely durable vest is also designed to be sweat and water resistant with a minimal fabric to body contact it's also chafe free the straps are adjustable so it can be shared among people with different sizes and fit all over all different types of clothing. So most sneakers come with reflective elements however you can enhanced your visibility and improve your safety with Spurs designed to clip into your heel these spurs fit runners of all sizes and can be worn for night running like I said that's what I prefer to go you get all the animals that are nocturnal coming out and especially your nose are on and you kind of feel like the Tasmanian Devil as you're going through certain areas and bunnies go flying and birds go flying because they feel the movement so you can set the l.e.d. Lights on these to blink like a strobe light or maintain a solid light don't shy away from wearing these in wet weather either the engineering includes waterproof things so you can go out in the rain just try to avoid those monsoons here the pros are that they're cheap you can get them for about $20.00 they're also lightweight and waterproof the con is that the l.e.d. Shoes burgers are not rechargeable you'll need to replace the batteries when they die I mention in the beginning the show how I planned about talking about what is important to spend money on experiences rather than materialistic things when you work hard every day there's only so much money left after you know regardless of expenses you have to make. Make it count that it's well spent I read an interesting article in Forbes dot com that talks about the paradox of possessions Cornell University psychology professor Dr Thomas Gilovich conducted a 20 year study on material items and came to this conclusion don't spend your money on things because happiness they provide fades quickly why for one we get used to possessions and the new things become the norm instead of exciting. 2nd it seems like human nature to keep raising the bar buying new items lead to new expectations and or in other words as soon as we get used to a new possession we look for one that can tell that it's human nature so 3rd it's keeping up with the Joneses mentality material things by their nature Foster comparisons we buy a new car and are thrilled with it until a friend buys what we consider a better one as the professor puts it we buy things to make us happy and we succeed but only for a while we make the wrong assumption that happiness will get us from buying something that will last as long as the item itself so another interesting part of the article talks about the power of experiences this is what this show is about that's why I'm talking about this researchers have found that experience is deliver more lasting happiness than things for several reasons. Number one experiences become part of our identity we are the accumulation of everything we've seen the places we've been and the things we've done buying a retail item member I said retail for me is against my religion it isn't going to change but taking a vacation is for example maybe you're going out for a challenging hike this will definitely change your experience and your happiness level as the psychologist puts it our experiences are bigger they're bigger part of ourselves than our material goods your experiences really become a part of you. And like I said you've got to put away that tech so comparisons matter a little think about this in reality we don't compare experiences in the same way that we compare things in the Harvard study when people were asked if they'd rather have a high salary that was lower than that of their peers or a low salary that was higher than that of their peers a lot of them weren't sure I know you have to think about this one a little bit but however you know when you're asked the same question about the length of a vacation most people chose a you know they'll choose a longer vacation even though it was shorter than that of their peers. And so and the thing is is that you know that that's very telling to me personally I mean I'm right in there with that particular citizen I do not care about having a longer vacation than my peers I care about having a longer vacations and longer time with my family like many of you and part of the study included anticipation it found that the anticipation of an experience such as a vacation road trip or other activity causes excitement and joy but the intense a patient of purchasing position causes in patients experiences are enjoyable from the very 1st moments of planning all the way through memories you can cherish forever this is so true and for those of you that are new to the show this is what this is about is reconnecting with your family and get an out there and building memories and in being having the personal freedom to not be worried about your safety through some of these these things we've been able to you to you know grab hopefully not on the retail market but on the on the secondary market as well so we're really focused on making sure that you have that time to get rid of your tack and reconnect and this is what this actual study is about so experiences are short lived I'm sorry that experiences that are short lived but actually you know that's a good thing and think about it this way have you ever bought something that wasn't nearly as cool. But as you you know as you thought it would be so once you buy it it's right there it's in your face reminding you of the disappointment buyer's remorse can set in even if it meets your expectations so I don't know about those of you that have thought oh I'm going to go out and get this cool thing you know a lot of people it's the the new phone or the new app on your i Pad or your i Phone you know. That's really short lived it becomes routine and experiences you don't need to worry about that the fact is they you know they last there longer lasting and these things may not last as long as the experiences the memories are what linger and they were what matter most you know guys some of us have aging parents our kids are getting older and getting out of the house the memories are what's important and with that said this may sound a little hypocritical to roll into next but I wanted to quickly transition into one more segment on cool gifts for the travelers in your life because these are things that can augment your travel experiences not to get the needed latest greatest next thing but that you know they contribute to creating experiences in your life but again try not to get them retail get them on the secondary markets and if you're concerned about how to do that you can go to my. Podcast and look at how you know some of the other pod cast have talked about how to go on offer up and Facebook how to get things really done or even e-bay for a fraction of the cost cents on the dollar versus just buying retail it's against my religion so now you know I love to jog if you're a woman or you know if you have a woman in your life who loves to plan trips catch flights and take a run while.
